Address book resets birthdates to july

I have problems with birthdates. If I set the birthdate of an entry, move to another entry and go back to that first entry, the birthdate is set to july no matter what was the original month. The day and year remains intact, only the month resets.
I have all the updates installed on my Mac and my locale is finnish. Does anyone else have this problem?

In AB try putting the dates in as eg 10 Sep 2000
rather than all numerals, as I think iCal gets
confused between 9/10/2000 and 10/9/2000.

I TRIED THAT BUT IT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. IT AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED IT BACK TO JANUARY 19, 1955 AFTER I PUT IN 19 SEPTEMBER, 1955????

Question about the address book

I've exported all my address book data into vcard for backup. One day my address book reset again and erase all my data, luckily i've the vcard backup, so i import back to address book; however, all the notes in each data has gone, could anyone tell me why this happen?

Welcome to the discussions, joanne.
Vcards don't have a field for storing notes, so the information doesn't get preserved. For backup you should either use the File/Backup menu option in Addess Book, or simply make a copy of folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/

Address Book creating thousands "No Name" cards

Thought I had a MobileMe syncing problem, but have now narrowed it down to Address Book creating hundreds and thousands of Contact cards for "No Name" all by itself. I go in and delete them and they reappear seconds later. It's a loop: delete them, Empty trash, they come back.
Just installed Aperture 3 last night. Could this be the problem?

To repeat: deleted all "Address Book" plist files, launched Address Book, deleted 4000 "No Name" cards, waited a few moments, Quit and re-launched Address Book, waited a few moments, 4,000 + "No Name" cards add themselves back into Address Book.

Address Book - Birthdates

I am fairly new with the imac and learning how to use the address book. Previously we had an adddress book on Windows where we could list every person in the family including the children with their birthday.
If I want a family contact and list the spouse and children in this contact it appears I can only have the birthday of the contact. So do I have to start a new contact for every member of the family in order to have their birthday listed and sync with ICal? If so how do I keep the family together? Hope I don't have to make a group for every Family in order to do this!

I am about to try a master reset but how do i backup my contacts from my address book? Does itunes do that when i backed up the rest of the stuff on my phone?

Back it up in iTunes! Just make a backup of the entire device but make sure you check sync contacts and the option to add contacts from phone to address book on computer.

Address Book/Contact List keeps resetting

Anyone have any idea why my address book keeps resetting "thus duplicating the contacts I already have" in this format Smith;Mark/W? The W is the for work. I have gone in and erased all the duplicates and within days it has returned? What app could be causing this? FB? Google Calendar? And better yet how can I stop it?

Busted Address Book... reset?

We use Address Book to move BlackBerry contacts around when upgrading or resetting user's BBs.
This requires trashing the Address Book contents each time, which is ok cos we use Entourage anyway.
However, I thought it would be a case of removing the com.apple.addressbook* files in ~/Library/Prefs, but this didn't work, so I removed the ~/Application Support/Address Book folder and then Address Book wouldn't work at all!! The application icon bounces in Dock then disappears. Now, no matter what I do I cannot get it to work.
Any help to the following would be greatly appreciated:
What files does it need?
How can I get it working again?
What does removing the files/folder i did cause such trauma?
What have Apple broken?!

Address Book always chooses 5th for birthdate to display

I use MobileMe to sync my iMac at home and my MBP at work, as well as my iPhone. All work fine, except recently the MBP. In the Address Book for it, when I type a birth date for a contact, regardless of what I type, the day portion of the field always becomes 05 (i.e. 5th) when I leave the field and/or finish editing the contact. The month and year info is correct and remains what I type it to be, but the day does not. If I click back in the field, it shows the day I typed but if I click out of it again, it goes back to the 5th. MobileMe, the iMac and iPhone all display the correct day in all cases but the MBP shows every contact with a birthday to be the 5th, although month and year are correct. Has this happened to anyone else and/or does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

hmm, just to completely eliminate syncing problem turn off syncing on that computer and reset the sync folder. make sure AB is not running at the time.

Note that with iCloud (and I guess any other source) there is a Sources folder inside of the AddressBook folder. It has the same indexing databases. At this point, I don't know of you would need to remove those, also. When you throw away the iCloud one, it will take a few moments for the iCloud contacts to reindex.

Reset Mail & Address Book prefs back after Archive & Install

Please let me know what files I need to move around to get back my old mail files & address book. Also some of my programs won't start. They say they are missing files. What do I do?

Okay, here is the whole story with this:
I left on vacation & came back 7 days later. As I booted & began to try to download my vacation pics from my camera, it seemed really slow, so I had to force shut down. When I tried to reboot, it doesn't get past the gray screen with the apple & progress indicator. It just spins & spins but goes nowhere. I have seen where people have posted that they came back after a couple hours & their computer was working. No luck here, I left it on all day while I was at a work, & it was still stalled at the same spot when I came home. Below are the things I have tried:
1. DiskWarrior. (I can get it to boot from the CD using the C command on startup.) It ran through replacing the directory. Found a bunch of errors but fixed them. Shows the hard drive is fine. After rebooting & the computer still stalling, I tried DiskWarrior again but it showed nothing wrong.
2. Tried zapping PRAM & NVRAM. No luck.
3. Disk Utility. I ran disk utility. It found no disk errors. Tried again, still stalls.
4. Tried holding down shift key to start in safe mode, but it does nothing at all.
5. I did a search on Apple.com & found where it said to find the file BaseSystem.pkg & get it into /Library/Receipts. Replaed the file with the one from the Tiger install CD. Still stalls.
6. Decided to just go do an Archive & Install to replace the old system, but it won't let me. Says I have a newer version & have to do a clean install. This would cause me to loose a bunch of important files that I haven't backed up lately (I know! I know! I'm bad!!!). Freaked a bit.... It would take me forever to burn cds of all my files...
7. OS 9. So I thought I would try to startup in OS 9.2, & that works. So I am assuming that it is an issue with OS X Tiger.
8. I also tried to boot up without anything plugged in but the keyboard & mouse. Still stalled.
9. I also tried repairing the permissions using Disk Utility from the Tiger CD, but it gave me an error "No Valid Packages".
10. Also, I also held down Command V & this is the jabberwacky that come up:

Please let me know if this is possible.

Birthdates from address book transfer to calendar wrong????

When I did all my adderss book cards entering the birthdates a couple of them transferred to the ical onto wrong months. Then when I went into the address book card and changed the date again to the correct date and later went back to check it again I noticed that the date had reverted back to the wrong month again on the calendar. All the other entries transferred correctly. Any ideas on how to fix this glitch????

Itunes, safari, address book, mail - everything has reset

i recently have had problems with my itunes library, when launching itunes a message saying the librbary was damaged and had it had created a restored librbary. this did not appear in the source list in itunes. albeit my library was still there in the shared folder. affter adding it to itunes, it disappears everytime i launch itunes.
now i have looged on and all application have been 'reset'; my mail account needs reset, all book marks and folders in safari have gone, contacts have dissappeared in the address book. its as if i have just installed again.
whats happened? is it a virus? ...i am lost and frsutrated

Did you change the ShortName of your Home folder?
If so, the info in these links should help you out.

And your iTunes problem may have been caused by using the Shared Folder.

Address Book on laptop is corrupt: which settings need to be reset?

The Address Book on each of my 2 laptops is corrupt (i.e. the AB when opened quits unexpectedly, without giving much options other than Report to Apple, and quit). But the Contacts data on MobileMe (and on the iPhone) is correct. I'd like to delete any and all of the sync settings on the laptops in order to start with a new and emtpy Address Book which then should be synced (and repopulated) with MobileMe. (I have saved the MobileMe data as V-cards by choosing all contacts and exporting and saving them in a vcf file format; I fear that I am loosing ALL group data this way!?).
Here my questions:
1. To get a "clean" slate for the address book and the syncing process, which databases and sync settings on the laptops do I need to delete and in what order? And much less importantly:
2. How can the group data on MobileMe be saved/retained?

I think that you are right with your diagnosis that not the AB is corrupt, but perhaps the data, because:
1. the problem occurred at the same time on my wife's laptop and on mine.
2. although I re-installed the AB from the OS X disk with the help of the Pacifist application (see the thread below), the problem has not disappeared.
I also was able to eliminate synching issues as the root problem: I used a previously saved backup AB (not entirely current, of course) and could sync with MobileMe (replacing the data there, which I had saved in a .vcf file). I now seem to have a working AB which also syncs, BUT, and here comes the puzzlement: all contacts seem to be there, even all groups, BUT when I want to resize/enlarge the window to cover the whole screen, then the AB freezes up, the window becomes white and empty and after a while AB quits entirely on my laptop with no further notice, and on my wife's laptop gives me a message that AB quit unexpectedly (with a Relaunch and an OK option, but the relaunch produces the same results). Is there any explanation for this, that resizing produces a freeze and inadvertent quit? Is there a preference or settings file burried out there that interferes???
Somehow I have a hunch that the real culprit could be the groups which I had created, since I had noticed some strange results in these groups earlier; some groups were created by me, some are logically determined so called "smart groups". I wonder if I were to delete these groups in MobileMe (which of course I'd hate to loose) and re-synced whether the problem would disappear.
Your suggestions, to add .vcf cards one by one is appreciated, but I don't have them one by one, only ALL contacts in one single .vcf file; (furthermore with some 1500 contacts that would take forever).
I am wondering if you or anyone who follows this thread has suggestions how best to proceed. I am willing to try out any approach.

Need to reset/reinstall address book (Contacts)

The first thing I did was made a backup copy of the address book to look at the format. I could not read it with a text editor
I importing a cvs file that contain over one hundred email addresses, but I didn't notice that the email address was not selected for import. I imported the entire file.
Rather than selecting one at time, I selected all of the entries in the address book and deleted them. I was successful all of my errors went away. I reloaded the database from the backup copy of the address book. I have tried muliple times, with and without a reboot.
The entries appear for a moment and then disappear every time.
Questions
How can I recover from this error?
Is there some file that needs to be delete?
If so where is the file located?
Is it a cloud problem?

I had to change my user name from Ebht to MrEbht. I tried you advise and it still empties out the address book. I can still manual add account, but what fun is that. I have over a hundred address to enter. I really would love to know how the software, remembers what I have deleted. Is there a way to reinstall just that program and erase it's memory?
