Address Book Share / Subscribe & Cross Pollinated Contacts

I have two unrelated issues with Address book here.
First, I share my address book with the other user on my iMac. We have setup both address books correctly and we can subscribe and view each others contacts. However, we have to constantly re-subscribe to the shared address book. At this point I'm not sure if it is related to .Mac Syncing or Palm syncing with either missing sync/iSync.
Second, I am having trouble with contacts getting mixed up... it seems to be just one contact and it seems to be placing its information in several other contacts. For example...
Contact A's Fax number will show up as Contact C's Fax number and Contact A's Address will show up as Contact D's Address and so on...
I'm not sure what causes this behavior, I simply correct it each time I see it and strangely it only seems to be this one Contact so far. I currently sync with my Cell phone (V551) and Palm T3 with the Latest version of MissingSync for Palm and I sync with .Mac. Whole lot of syncing going on, just now sure where to trace the problem back to.

How can I put a contact in two or more Address Books without making a 'new contact' for each?

I would like to put several of my contacts in more than one Address Book; but, if I move them (drag'n'drop) from one they no longer remain in the original Book...which I want. Why won't my computer's address book sync ALL of my contacts with my iPhone? No MobileMe, no iCloud, just straight from computer to phone. I have checked all the settings and all seems correct. It simply won't pull in all of the contacts. Last time, it added some new ones, but deleted others.

I found the route of the problem! All the songs under 'On This Phone' are completely grayed out! The only question is now how do I ungray them???

Address Book won't sync with contacts on mobile.me anymore

I have a iMac 5,1 with MacOSX 10.6.4, mobile.me and an iPhone (4.0.2). For many, many years I have had Address Book which quite happily was in sync with the more recently acquired Contacts in Mobile.me. But now, my Address Book isn't syncing with Contacts. And the Contacts on my mobile phone syncs with the Contacts in mobile.me rather than with Address Book. I've tried all sorts of combinations of syncing to no avail. Can anyone please tell me how to ensure that Address Book syncs with Contacts in mobile.me and I would want Address Book to overwrite Contacts. The huge ongoing number of duplicates is another problem but there are many threads I can see that will help me solve that problem.

I am having this problem, too. Gmail is my mothership, all the contacts and groups are hosted there, I just want to pull it down to my iMac and my MacBook.
The process seems to work fine on the iMac, but I sync an iPod to that Mac almost every day. I do not sync a device to the MacBook, and it does not get Address Book updates. I feel strongly that the mobile device plays a role in the sync. I will try to sync an iPod to the MacBook, and see what happens. This is a valid test, but I am not willing to erase my iPod every other day just to keep my Address Book up to date on my laptop. This should work better.
I wish there was a tool for contacts like Calaboration. Calaboration makes my iCal sync both ways to Google, and works breath-takingly well.

Address Book changing fields on duplicate contacts ?

My Address Book is duplicating contacts, BUT mixing the fields.
Original contac: last-name = "Rosales A", first-name = "Eduardo". No middle-name used.
I get a second contact with: last-name = "A", first-name = "Eduardo". No middle-name apears.
Then yet another with: last-name = "A", middle-name = "Eduardo" and first-name = "Rosales".
Forget about physical addresses that will by magic put a "country" when there was none defined.
Forget also that it (Address Book) is adding pictures to contacts, I don't want to, some correct (when asked to some friends) but some incorrect (a friends photo on a Company contact with no relation).
I'm aware of using iCloud and "on My Mac", will duplicate info, this is already taken care of.
It all started when I was using and syncing ONE MacBook and ONE iPhone. By magic, I did not change anything.
Now I'm using iCloud, Lion on the MacBook, iOS 5.0 on the iPhone-4 and the iPad-2.
Now, if I delete one instance of a contact, say on the iPhone, it will disapeare on the MacBook.
BUT tomorrow, during a "sync over the air", again the "A" last-name will show up.

• open the Preferences… dialog
• press the Reset Sync History… button
This will leave your sync clients registered and your data intact, but remove any indication that you have ever synchronized before, clearing the truth database and triggering an initial slow synchronization once you re-enable to process and initiate your next event.

Calendar sync is OK.

Difference between Accounts in Address Book and iCal vs Mail, Contacts and Calendars Accounts?

Trying to wrap my head around iCloud's capabilites right now.
In System Prefs, there is the Mail, Contacts and Calendars setting. In there, I can set up syncing with contacts and calendars via a Google account there. However, when I open up iCal (aka calendars) and Address Book (aka contacts), they ALSO have their own seemingly independent syncing options.
I'd ideally like to keep a copy of my contacts and calendars synced through Google and iCloud.
What is the optimal way to do this?

Add your wife's account just temporary on your Mac (Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account), then

3. Mark the Calendar by clicking on the name of your wife's calendar
4. Open the menu "File > Export" + safe the file on your desktop
5. Delete your wife's account again in Settings
6. Open the calendar again
7. Open the menu "File > Import" + choose the file from your desktop
8. Choose your preferred calendar

Address book groups: can't customize contacts with multiple email

I have many groups setup in address book and frequently like to use them. Additionally, several of my contacts assigned to groups have multiple email addresses. Is there a way to specifiy which email address of a contact's associates itself with the group? I have not been able to figure this out and am aggravated when I send out personal emails to my friends' work addresses, much to their chagrin.

Then you would use the, "Edit Distribution List" from the Address Book's Edit menu. Select the applicable group and then select which email address that you want the group to use.

Can I overwrite contacts in Address book with my iPod Touch contacts?

I'm an idiot - I somehow managed to delete ALL of my contacts in Address book. I don't use Time Machine (not enough external HD space) so I can't restore that way.
I did happen to sync my iPod Touch shortly before I deleted everything so my contacts are fine there. Short of re-typing everything into Address Book, is there a way I can tell iTunes to overwrite my contacts with the ones from the iPod touch?
It's the only place I have my contacts - and because I enabled Google sync, it deleted all of my Google contacts too! HELP!!

If you sync, the contacts will be copied back into Address Book on your Mac. You should get an error message that pops from iSync (a warning about changing more than 5% of your data), which you should Allow.
In case you're worried, I have tested this (backed up my address book, then deleted the contents, then synced and my contacts were restored from my IPT).

Address Book Entries Far Fewer than Contacts

When I look at my Address Book, only about 75 email address show up (along with a couple hundred entries with telephone numbers).
But I have many more email contacts. I mean, if I start a new email and just enter the first letter of an addressee, scores and scores display as possibilities.

Can I sync Address Book and iCal to put contact info into iCal?

I use Address Book as a contact/customer list and use iCal to prepare my schedule for work. I usually type in the name of the customer I want to see in iCal. Is there anyway to import or drag names out of Address Book into iCal so the location & contact info will be included? I don't want to invite the customer. I just want to input the info into iCal so I don't have retype a name that is already in my Address Book.
If I have customer "xxx" in Adress Book and I am planning on visiting this customer tomorrow. Is there anyway for me to transfer/import this info to iCal without physically typing "xxx"? When I look at my appointment I would love to see the contact info for "xxx" in iCal when I click on individual appointments.
I hope this makes sense.

You can link to the Address Book entry with a URL. See my script +Link to Address Book+ on this page http://www.nhoj.co.uk/applescripts/ which creates a link from the currently selected person in Address Book. These can then be added to the URL field in iCal or the notes field if you have more than one per event.

Address Book creates 12,000 duplicate contacts!

I'm running mail on 10.4.9 on a G4 iBook.
Address book spontaneously duplicates all of my contacts. 30 minutes after restoring my 683 contacts from a backup, the iBook grinds to a halt and then I note that I have in excess of 12,400 contacts! It's worth noting that the database runs perfectly on my 24" iMac.
I've switched off syncing with dotmac and yet it still does this.
Any ideas?

Empty address book in PC removes all contacts in 3g iPhone??

I downloaded my contacts from my old phone onto my PC and saved them into a address book file then into Outlook Express and then initially loaded them into my iPhone, without problems. I then spent hours making adjustments and amendements on the iphone, including adding new numbers. The next time i synced my iPhone I expected it to update the PC with the new information but instead it changed the contacts stored in the phone back to the original (incorrect) ones!!
This has happened twice so much so that I am afraid to sync the contacts again as I will lose my new numbers which are on the iPhone.
I have now manually made the corrections and additions to the address book file and saved them BUT i although I can open Outlook Express when trying to open the address book I get an error telling me to re install it. When OE opens the address book fields are completely empty!!
OE came pre-installed thus i do not have the disc to do this!!
Any suggestions as I have no back up of contacts now?

Based on what you've described, it seems very likely that there is a fundamental issue with Outlook Express on the computer. Outlook Express is a pre-installed program that you should be able to reinstall from the Vista install disks that came with your system.
If you do a web search for "reinstall Outlook Express Vista" you may find the means to get a fresh copy of Outlook Express onto your Vista PC. Otherwise, you'll need to contact your computer manufacturer or Microsoft Support to get it back onto your system.

If Outlook Express opens successfully in a new User on the computer, you can use it to backup your contacts. You need to create at least one contact in Outlook Express before syncing, otherwise there won't be an Outlook Express data file for iTunes to sync your contacts into.
