Address Book Slow Adding Pictures

Upon adding pictures to contacts, the Adddress Book app begins working very slow. Lots of spinning wheels, and waiting to load picture edit box, and then anything else in the app is slow after that.
Any ideas to remedy?

hmm, just to completely eliminate syncing problem turn off syncing on that computer and reset the sync folder. make sure AB is not running at the time.

then delete the AB database file again, start AB and and see if it works. also, do the dates display correctly in finder when you view modified and created times for files?

Does Address Book Save The Pictures Used In A Contact Card

I added an image to a contact card, and was wondering if the file must stay on my hard drive for it to show in Address Book.

The original image needn't be kept. Address Book keeps its images in (user)/Library/Application Support/Address Book/Images.

OS5 - Address Book Slow or Does Not Respond

I updated to OS5 and find that my address book is not functioning properly. It looks like by MacBook Pro is searching the cloud vs searching the laptop. How do I get the address book search to default to my hard drive, not the cloud?

First off, do a simple reboot: With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
Does this fix your address book?
If not, let me ask if you have added a Gmail email address in the past month, about when this odd behaviour began?
Can you look at Options > Status > press the Meny key > Database Sizes.
Scroll down to Address Book, do you see more than one listed?

Address Book - Slow?

I have about 250 contact in my address book, with about 10 groups and 2 smart groups.
It's painfully slow already!! Is this expected? Are the smart groups a bad idea to use on a regular basis? With only 250 contacts it will freeze up for like 10-15 seconds every click.

Address Book and all applications that use it are extremely slow, only in Snow Leopard. My MacBook Pro running Leopard is fine.
I hear from other forums that this is due to Smart groups.
How come??? And how come this hasn't been fixed yet?? Complaints on Apple run forums go back almost two years!! Does no-one from Apple monitor these forums?
I need my Smart groups - I use them all the time - all answers to forum complaints have ended up saying DELETE YOUR SMART GROUPS. I don't want to do this, I want the bug fixed.
Can anyone tell me when this might happen?

Address Book is adding last name. I need it to stop. Help?

I am getting contacts in my address book saying stuff like "Joe Smith Smith" I don't utilize last names for personal preference reasons but it seems that the app is adding them anyway. Please help me find a way to stop them.

Found this and it seems to be working for me on OS X 10.8.3...

Hopefully you fixed it before now. But if not, I had the same exact problem and I found a fix on MacRumors:
Steps:
1. Quit Mail
2. Open Finder and go to Library ==> Application Support ==> AddressBook
3. Remove the file MailRecents-v4.abcdmr
4. Open Mail, the file will be created again but now the sync issues should be resolved
This will stop that last name from re-adding itself even after you manually delete it.

Address book keeps adding surnames to contacts??

Is this some sort of bug or am I doing something wrong?
I sync my address book with my .mac account and my macbook pro. Seems to work ok but here's the problem I'm having scenario...a contact in my address book on my mac has just a First name and an email address. Then somehow either through syncing with .mac or for some other reason it suddenly has a Last name - does this somehow get automatically added becasue of the email address? Also I have another example - a contact has two names written in the First name section and nothing in the Last name (example Katie Jane in the First name) the contacts email address has no mention of the names yet somehow the name Jane gets added to the Last name section - so the contact details read Katie Jane Jane....
this is driving me crazy
can anyone help?

just synched one machine again and its gone up to 1230 contacts including 228 "No name" contacts... what is going on?

Mail and Address Book: Does adding attachements always expand them?

Lame subject heading, sorry, but I keep trying to use Mail, I'm trying to like it but I keep swapping back to Eudora 6.2.4 for it's straightforwardness and professional feel. I'd like to use Mail without the address book picture, and I'd like to just attach attachments without having them expand in the body of the email. Can this be done?

The AddressBook picture does not get sent with your email. Unless the person you are sending to has the same pic as you in their address book for your card. T change open System Preferences >> Accounts >> and choose another picture or create a blank, if you want nothing in log in. (just create a plain jpg and paste it.)
Or, on AB choose edit on "Me" card and delete the picture.
ASA not expanding in the body of the email all jpgs "expand" if it is not muliti-page. You could send as plain text or zip the file.

Address book slow on mavericks

I have a early 2008 Mac pro desktop with 6 gigs of ram. After I installed Mavericks my address book (which is very large) takes forever to do anything. It takes 30 seconds to click on something. It was super fast on OS 10.8. Is there anything I can do to rebuild it or make it faster?

I just noticed that there is no address book in Mavericks and that it has changed to Contacts instead. When I copied all of my applications to the new system I guess the address book copied from my older system. That might be why it is not working.

Outlook access address book slow when sending from Word

We use Outlook 2013 in cached mode together with Exchange 2013 CU5.
If somebody send an email from outlook and click on the "TO"-button to select a recipient, the address book appears without delay.
If i do the same, but send the email from word with "send as attachment" and click then on the "TO"-button, it takes sometimes till 5 minutes till the address book appears.
The exact same problem happens also for the users which use Outlook 2010.

I'm not able to reproduce this problem on my side, please try the following:
1. Switch Outlook to work in Online Mode: Go to Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Double click the account name -> Uncheck "Use Cached Exchange Mode", click Next and Finish, restart Outlook and check if the problem exists when sending from
Outlook in Online Mode.
2. Have Word work in Safe Mode: Press Win + R, type "winword.exe /safe" in the blank box, press Enter. Try to send the attachment from Word, check if the problem persists. If no, consider to disable the suspicious add-ins to determine which one caused the
problem.

MobileMe address book sync - should pictures be included?

Got a new iPhone 4 and have the address book set to sync via mobile me. On my previous phone contact photos were synced but on the new phone that doesn't appear to be the case. Should photos be included on a sync? Any troubleshooting steps suggested?

On your phone, go to mail, contacts, & calendars - turn off contact syncing. Select delete contacts on iPhone when prompted. Then turn contact syncing back on. See if that fixes things.

Can I email my entire address book without adding each address to an email independently?

Do you want to email your address book to someone?
OR
Do you want to send an email everyone in your address book?
The first is what I described. The second is what Bob described.
Ahh. I think I understand your subject, now. What you meant was,
"Can I send an email to everyone in my address book without ..."
Yes, as Bob described. In the To line, type the name of the group you wish to send to. You can't use "All Contacts," though. You could either create a new group and drag all contacts to that group, or select All Contacts, select a contact and type cmd-A to select all, then drag those all to the To field.

Contacts/Address Book slow loading on new iPhone 5

I sync "Contacts" through iCloud. I had a very slow loading problem on a previous iPhone 4S. Now on a brand new iPhone 5, I have the exact same problem. After selecting a contact, it takes a long time for the contact details to display. Everything else works fine, just the "Contacts". What's wrong? Does anyone else experience this problem? What can be done to fix it? Thank you!

I was thinking that if you restored a backup of the previous phone to this one, then the issue may have been copied over to the iPhone 5. I think it would be a good idea to restore the phone as new, and setup your icloud account with the device but do not restore from a backup. If the issue does not persist, then I would recommend setting up your phone from the ground up.
Backup your data first just make sure your content is safe.

Here is section 1 to get you started:
Restart iPhone
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.

Address Book changing fields on duplicate contacts ?

My Address Book is duplicating contacts, BUT mixing the fields.
Original contac: last-name = "Rosales A", first-name = "Eduardo". No middle-name used.
I get a second contact with: last-name = "A", first-name = "Eduardo". No middle-name apears.
Then yet another with: last-name = "A", middle-name = "Eduardo" and first-name = "Rosales".
Forget about physical addresses that will by magic put a "country" when there was none defined.
Forget also that it (Address Book) is adding pictures to contacts, I don't want to, some correct (when asked to some friends) but some incorrect (a friends photo on a Company contact with no relation).
I'm aware of using iCloud and "on My Mac", will duplicate info, this is already taken care of.
It all started when I was using and syncing ONE MacBook and ONE iPhone. By magic, I did not change anything.
Now I'm using iCloud, Lion on the MacBook, iOS 5.0 on the iPhone-4 and the iPad-2.
Now, if I delete one instance of a contact, say on the iPhone, it will disapeare on the MacBook.
BUT tomorrow, during a "sync over the air", again the "A" last-name will show up.

If you are going to reactivate synchronization, then do this first:
• launch iSync
• open the Preferences… dialog
• press the Reset Sync History… button
This will leave your sync clients registered and your data intact, but remove any indication that you have ever synchronized before, clearing the truth database and triggering an initial slow synchronization once you re-enable to process and initiate your next event.

LDAP, Address Book and picture

Hi,
I have a Xserve on my network with LDAP, i use it for display all information user's in address book, but no picture !
I read many post on this forum about LDAP and picture user's in address book, likely this post :

My question is : When i have a OS X client NOT in Open Directory, i can display picture in address book with LDAP configuration ?
If not use automount network library, can use another "values" for apple-user-picture ?
I try http link for picture in values field, don't work.
Any solution for "standard account" Macintosh ?
