Address Book & SMS Messaging

Hello,
To start things right here's my setup:
PowerMac, Dual G5 (2GHz), 3gb's RAM, 250gb HDD, Mac OS X version 10.4.9 (Build 8P135).
Address Book version 4.0.4 (485.1).
Motorola RAZR V3 Phone (recently purchased on 2/12/07), Cingular Wireless, bluetooth enabled/functioning.
I have "Adium" Chat installed (version 1.0.1, dated 2/16/07).
I completely removed Skype (can't recall version).
NOTE: I've already successfully paired this phone with my computer -- it syncs up beautifully with the Address Book & iCal.
Here's what I'd like to do: send SMS Messages from my Address Book through my mobile phone.
When I try to do so, after following the instructions in the Address Book "Help" viewer, I only see greyed out "SMS Message" and/or "Dial With Cell Phone" options after I choose someone's mobile phone.
I'd really like to use this feature. It does come in handy.
Thinking that Skype had brought my Mac to this end, I removed it entirely from my system (using Spotlight to locate any file remotely connected to it). I rarely used the application anyway.
Does anyone use "SMS Messaging" through their Address Book (via their mobile phone)?
Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can use this wonderfully intriguing feature of the Mac OS & Address Book?

With Bluetooth on, if you look at Address Book's window you should see a bluetooth icon on the top bar, to the right of the drop-down menu icon that looks like a wee gear wheel. This bluetooth icon needs to be blue for SMS messaging. If it is grey, click it and see if anything interesting happens.

I have a Motorola V3c Verizon, Is there a update for Address book to support this Phone. I want to send SMS while on the APPLE and it is grayed out in the address book.

I haven't tried with a ROKR, I have with a RAZR. With the the RAZR the feature is not available with Address Book. But there are 3rd party options.

BlackBerry Z10 - Address Book SMS/Email Distribution List

Will the BlackBerry Z10/Q10 have available the Address Book SMS and Email Distribution List's feature as it did with its predecessors? This feature is built into the Address Book and does not sync with Outlook.

I can't believe there is no distribution list on the new blackberry 10 system. I use distribution lists every day. This may be a deal breaker for this phone. Why not support something so simple?

Who changed Address Book SMS and Dial configuration settings ??

Address Book suddenly stopped allowing me to SMS from my K610i mobile phone... Furtunately someone posted a fix where you can add the phone id string to the AddressBook application settings.
Anyone know if there was there a recent update from Apple that changed some of the AddressBook application settings to disable this feature ?

6111 & mac address book SMS

Hi all, I have a new Nokia 6111 that works fine sending SMS from Address book, but doesn't produce the receive window when I get an SMS. My old K700i worked fine with my PowerBook G4. Any help? regards Jan Korovessi www.rocksoundstudio.gr www.soundlab.gr

Address Book SMS and Motorola ROKR

I have recently updated to 10.4.6 and have synced addresses and calendars successfully. When syncing I did and erase and replace to the phone and all synced fine. Now....
It seems to be a common problem on the forums that you can not use the SMS from address book. Is that correct and is there anything to do that can correct this.
Also when I now try to text using the phone the phone hangs and the sendto option is greyed out, so I can not text and have to take the battery out to get the phone back. Does anyone know what has happened or experienced this?

Address Book SMS

It doesn't look like using the SMS feature in the address book works with the ROKR. Anyone been able to make it work?

Motorola's Bluetooth Profile in this and other phones does not support this feature directly unlike a nokia or sony ericsson. hence the reason there isn't the normal "use with address book" option when you initially pair the phone. the only was to do this would be to use a program called BLue Phone Elite

How do I allow my address book to work in messages or do I have to populate it with a new list of phone numbers and email addresses?

Not sure what you are looking for. The iOS address book, Contacts, is used with all comunications apps such as Messages, Mail, FaceTime and the Phone app on an iPhone. Enter your contacts into Contacts including all known info including phone numbers, email addresses, Twitter and Facebook IDs as well as more info.
When you create a new message you can either start typing the address or tap on the button to bring up Contacts. Be aware you can only FaceTime and send Messages to other iOS devices. Other third party apps can expand on the messaging capabilities.

I am missing from,subject, reply to and to on messages in my inbox;If I deinstall TB and reinstall it will I loose my address books and messages?

Not real clear on your question.
Are you missing the columns for what you listed in your Inbox display? If so at the far end of the Inbox header there is a small icon. Click that for a list of possible columns to display.
You can uninstall the program and not lose your settings and emails since they are in your profile and not with the program. This rarely solves anything though. Since your setup is in the profile, the new install will pick that up and you will be right back where you started, just later in the day.

When I receive an SMS message, how do I find out the phone number it came from?

When I receive an SMS message from a person in my address book, the Messages app in my iPhone shows the name of the person who sent the message. At the top of the conversation, I can tap the word "Contact", which brings up the Contact's name, a phone icon, a camera icon, and a letter i in a circle. If I tap the i, it brings up the sender's record from my address book. How do I know which of the sender's multiple phone numbers is the number that he sent the message from?

Deleting contact's picture in Address Book (so frustrated)

I can't seem to accomplish this. Each time I delete the contact's picture, it immediately reappears.
I think the picture was automatically added back when I was using Adium. (I've since swiped Adium from my computer and only use iChat and Mail.)
I've deleted a file for her contact in ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/, however each time I delete that and then proceed to delete the picture from the contact, the picture not only reappears, but so does the file in this cache folder! This contact is the only one in which I am experiencing this strange behavior, and it is the only contact with a file in that cache folder. Yikes!
I've also tried deleting the contact from my iChat, and even deleting the contact from my address book and re-adding. When I re-add, the picture reappears. Grrrrrr.........
Any ideas?
Also.. this is a contact with a MobileMe account. I too have a MobileMe account. The picture crap only happens when I add their MobileMe email to the contact, and the picture deletes itself if I delete the MobileMe email. Again, this only happen with this single contact, even though I have other contacts with MobileMe addresses in my Address Book.

After syncing mac address book to ipad contacts, the ipad does not display all the fields that were in Mac address book (in my case all the email addresses). Anyone have a fix?

I have a problem similar to DeeRun's.. I would like the IM fields to be synced.. I use them to send e-mails to when the e-mail field is empty or when i just want to use that specific address.. Very annoying, would take hours if not days to transfer all those IM adresses to e-mail fields in addressbook..
EDIT: not to mention the mess it would make in my address book!

Suddenly cannot open address book

Suddenly I cannot open my address book. Message on computer says may be "damaged or incomplete"

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.

All fields in apple "address book" to iPhone "contacts" possible?

I need to have the complete record from my apple "address book" application on my phone's and iPad's contact info. Are the fields even there? For example, the "child", "partner", "Spouse", etc. Is there a better app that mirrors the info perfectly and syncs w MobileMe?

Address Book won't sync with Google Contacts

I enabled Google Contacts syncing in Address Book but nothing ever happens. There is no button in the toolbar or anything. Any ideas?

The background gsync service is broken in 10.6 There are two errors that I will post letter(not at my mac) but needless to say. 1: The task scheduler(launchd) is not lading the job. (It should load the gsync and run it every 15 minutes or so.) 2: Manually running the gsync process from a terminal generates a second error and the contacts never sync.
As a minor workaround you can change your iPhone to use the new Google Mobile Sync (http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=apple) but this doesn't help with the OS X address book.
