Address book source sync keeps MBPr awake

I have been seeing this weird process keeping my MBPr awake for no apparent reason. and i know its awake because when i pull it out of my bad after whole night its very warm at the bottom and battery has drained like 40 percent overnight.
I have tried to pinpoint the reason and found that there is a process called "Address book source sync" that keeps my notebok awake. so i decided to get rid of iCloud, as i dont need it. it didnt work, so i formatted the whole HDD and reinstalled mavericks from scratch and never logged into iCloud. it was ok for couple of days and now again i am seeing this process keeping my notebook awake. i dont know what to do, please help me.
thank you.

Please test after taking each of the following steps.
Step 1
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBookSourceSync
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash.
Log out, log back in, and test. If there's no change, go to the next step.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 2
If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud preference pane. Press return to confirm, or click Keep on Mac in the dialog that opens.
Step 3
From the list of groups on the left side of the Contacts window, select All On My Mac. If that group doesn't exist or is empty, skip this step. Otherwise, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Export ▹ Export vCard
Save the exported contacts to the Desktop.
Step 4
Quit Contacts. Reveal the following item in the Finder as you did in Step 1:
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
Step 5
Launch Contacts. Your contacts will be gone. If you took Step 3, then double-click the file you created in that step and confirm that you want to import from it. Your contacts will reappear.
Step 6
If you took Step 2, reverse it. Test. If the issue is resolved, delete the AddressBook folder and the vCard file on the Desktop and close the open folder window.
Otherwise, quit Contacts again and put the AddressBook folder back where it was, overwriting the newer one that will have been created in its place. Post your results.

    Hi,
I previously had the issue where my MBA 2013 1.7 i7, 8GB, 500GB was draining the battery in sleep mode. Figured out it was Avast and problem solved.
Now, however, I check on the power management logs from time to time when awake there is the following log:

This doesnt seem normal at all. I have disabled the syncing of all contacts in iCloud prefs but it still persists. Surely if such a process reccurs every 30 seconds it has an effect?
Anyone got any ideas or have experience with this? Seems like Mavericks isn't so great at power saving afterall!

  • HT204085 what is Address Book Source sync?

why do I have to keep logging in to irt to access the internet?

    Sorry typo
My question is why do I have to repeatedly provide my login keychain?
Safari will send a popup box every so often--ususally when I'm trying to enter information into
work or another website.  Since the iCloud business started I get several other types of demands
for my login keychain--AdrressBook somenthing or other, CalendarAgent whatever.  I don't use the adress book program.  Nor do I use a calendar program.  Mac users are not immune to viruses--how do I know that this
is not phishing or some other intruder?
Thanks for taking an interest in my concern.

  • I can not get imac w/Snow Leopard's address book to sync with ipad 1correctly? I only get about half the contacts?

I have tried repeatedly to get my address book on my imac w/ snow leopard to sync to my ipad 1 correctly and have failed every time. I only get about 1/3 the number of contacts and they don't all even correlate with the ones on the imac. Like one will have full middle name and the other only the initial. I don't know where itunes is getting these contacts but doesn't match those in my address book. I keep telling itunes to replace the contacts on the ipad with those on my mac but it doesnt work. Can't do it with icloud cause snow leopard doesn't support, it still wants to use the non existant mobile me format. Hope someone can help. I added the all amnually once before but they screwed up when I sync each time.

Thanks for your response Ernie. You are correct in that whenever you type a series of letters, Address Book (as it always has) finds every single thing with that combination of letters - Names, businesses, adjectives, people's dogs' names, letters in product serial numbers, etc. This is useful for finding a subject on the Web, or finding all documents related to 'iPhoto' on your Mac, etc., but not useful, quick or convenient when trying to find one person to call in your Address Book (which is what people use Address Book for).
What is DIFFERENT in the Snow Leopard version, is that the ability to type one letter to instantly go to last names with that letter has been removed. Previously, you could easily find 'Bill Tilman' in one second by simply typing 'T'. Now you get every word that starts with T and all the words in the card that have a T in them. If you type out a full name like 'Bill', it finds every person named Bill. No one would ever want to find all their contacts named Bill to call them. You could type out the full last name 'Tilman', but there again you are forced to type out a complete name to do a search. It would actually be quicker to scroll down and find it manually. The ability to type a single letter to find the last name (or business name) of a contact you needed to call, was much quicker and easier than having to type out the entire name.

  • Can't get iCal and Address Book to sync properly

I recently upgraded to Office 2008. Since then, I can't get iCal and Address book to sync properly with Entourage 2008 (I did set all three sync criteria in Entourage preferences). None of Entourage's events go into iCal (iCal is blank) and the Address Book has 10 times as many names as Entourage. Everything in Entourage 2008 is correct and everything in iCal and Address Book is essentially wrong.
Is there some way for me to erase everything in Address Book and iCal and start the sync between them and Entourage from scratch? Ultimately, I am trying to get Entourage to sync with my new Blackberry, which it does through iCal and Address Book using Missing Sync. I can't make this happen until information is flowing properly from Entourage to iCal and Address Book.
    Thank you!

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING - BACK UP ALL YOUR DATA IN ENTOURAGE.
You can delete everything in iCal by deleting the calendar (Entourage or Personal or temp or whatever Calendar is there). You can delete everything in Address book either by highlighting all the contacts and hitting delete or by deleting the Address Book folder in Address Book.
The key in getting them to sync properly with Entourage is deleting all the preferences in your Library folder under <your user>. Delete anything with Microsoft Entourage in it. I also deleted iCal preferences and Address Book Preferences.
I also found it necessary to go to the Office folder and delete the sync services folder.
Also go to Entourage sync services and turn OFF syncing with iCal and Address Book. Exit Entourage.
Go to your application folder, isync - reset sync history (button at bottom of screen).
Then bring up Entourage, sync services, and reactivate syncing with iCal and Address Book.
Everything should work. I have been struggling with this the last week or two. I've had innumerable exchanges with MS who have said anything with syncing is not their problem it's an apple application. Through these discussion boards I pieced together all of the elements above. But be sure to back up anything you want to keep before you do any of this.
It should work. It did for me (at least last night and all day today). Good luck.

  • Address Book/Gmail sync

Is it possible to sync my Gmail contacts with my Address Book? I do not have an iPhone or iPod Touch. Thank you!

Looking for a solution to this too!
I keep my iPhone contacts & Apple Address Book in sync through iTunes & recently thought of keeping my Gmail contacts in sync with the Apple Address Book as well. Researching online showed this is pretty much a dead end in terms of a simple sync for the user but since I use my iPhone & Apple Address Book to mainly control & edit my contacts, every now & then I just create a backup of 'vcards' with the date of that day & import them as a new group to Gmail. This new group will say something to the extent of 'Apple Address Book Jul-28-2010'.
I don't make changes to my Gmail contacts but constantly delete the old Apple Address Book 'group' & keep only the latest one. That way all changes are brought upon my Gmail contacts as well. Even though there might be duplicates, it's easy to sort out cause you know which ones came from your Apple Address Book.
Definitely not the most ideal solution but works for now...

  • Not all fields in Address Book are syncing

For some reason not all the fields in my address book get synced from one computer to another. The template for all the fields in address book are the same on the different computers but the 'Department' field does not get synced. Any ideas how to fix this?

So sorry...yes I'm using Contacts from Outlook.
When I launch Field Mapping from the Advanced Settings for Address Book, the Handheld fields that are available for me to map to my Contacts in Outlook, do not include the fields previously mentioned so there is no way for me to map them to a destination field in Outlook.
Maybe I'm using an old version of Desktop Manager??? Mine is version 3.6.0.63 (June 11 2003)...could you please let me know what version you have?
    Many thanks!

  • How do i prompt Address Book to sync?

    To Forum,
My Address book syncs with Google and vice versa. How do i prompt Address Book to sync once i have updated items within it? i see it syncs here and there on its own accord? whats the prompt? what do i have to do? or why does it sync when it does?

. . .from my old address book.  (10.4.11)    I tried to import the ABBU file into CONTACTS  (10.8.2 ) .  The drop down warned that this would "replace" the existing contacts.  That is what I wanted to do.  Writing over the dozen addresses that I had copied from old emails was no big deal, but now those are gone and the address book is EMPTY.  The new addresses are gone and the old addresses did not import.

  • Subscribed address book not synced to iPhone

I shared my address book with my wife, and she subscribes to it. Unfortunately, the shared contacts do not make it to her iPhone during a sync. Any Ideas why?
Also, what's the difference between subscribing to a mac address book and syncing using mobileme?
    Thanks!

I also have this issue. My contacts sync fine from the computer to Mobileme, but the groups don't sync to the iphone. This leaves me with an empty "Groups" window as described by eltons. If I sync through itunes, with Mobileme contacts sync off on the iphone, the groups show up.
Any ideas? Is this consistent with the original post?

  • Custom image from Address book not syncing to Exchange.

I am running Mac OS X v 10.7.5. I have added custom images to contacts in address book. I have an Exchange account which will sync the data (ie name, address, email) but not the custom image. Is there away to have custom images sync to Exchange/Outlook?

I'm Running Mac OS X Lion, and have seen that changes made in the mac address book do not sync to gmail contacts but changes to gmail contacts do sync to the mac address book.
Making a change to a contact on my phone does sync to gmail contacts, and then to the mac address book.
Another test I ran was to change the same contact in gmail and mac address book.  I made a change to a mobile number and notes in one contact on my mac address book, attempted to sync, and the change does not appear in my gmail contacts.  I tried multiple times, restarted my web browser, restarted mac address book, the sync would not work.  I changed the same contact mobile number in gmail with a slightly different change to the notes field so I could see when an update occurred, and when I told mac address book to sync it recognized a conflict. When I select the mac address book change to resolve the conflict, the gmail contact is not updated.  When I repeated the experiment and selected the gmail contact to resolve the conflict the change is made in the mac address book.

Does the itunes address book / gmail sync feature only sync between those two contact lists, or if I enable gmail sync, will all of my gmail contacts be put on my iphone?
I have only one folder of about 200 contacts in address book synced to my iphone. But address book and gmail have about 1,000 contacts each. I don't want all of those contacts on my phone.

Found an answer to my main question regarding the separate address books, looks like Lion Server is capable of doing personal address books for each user: http://www.wegotserved.com/2011/10/06/os-lion-server-home-server-part-11-shared- address-book/

  • ITunes can't see my address book to sync

I have a MacBook running OSX 10.4.9 and iTunes 7.2. On either my 1st gen or video ipod, when trying to turn on contact syncing I get the message:
    No contacts available
Contact syncing cannot be enabled because there are no contact available. Do you want to open the address book and create contacts now?
There are options to cancel or open address book only. When I open my address book there are all of my contacts and nothing appears to be corrupt. I have tried to even backup my contacts and empty the address book to sync an empty address book, but it give the same message. My only thought is that I started to have random problems when I tried using file vault encryption and had to turn it off. Maybe some file path problem crept in. Any ideas?
    Chris

Mine is doing the exact same thing, and nobody on any of these threads has had any luck fixing it yet, so far as I can tell. iSync is worthless since it simply won't see the ipod and basically is not used at all now as .mac is done through its own preference window. What did work for me, and was quite easily done, was to just open your ipod through the finder and delete the vcard data in the contacts folder. Export your contacts from address book as a vcard to that contacts folder on your ipod, and it all works fine.
Still won't sync...but at least this only takes a minute to do. I'd like to actually fix it though.
