Address book sync problem

I had uploaded my IMAC address book to my new itouch.  But because of some problems in the address book (lots of quotes around # and email), I had to fix that (using Excel's trim and clean functions.  On the IMAC, I deleted all the contacts in the address book and then uploaded the contacts from the cleaned and trimmed address book fields.  It loaded fine.
But when I tried a sync, it actually goes to what appears another account (my wife's) and loads that.  I can't seem to get to to sync to my new address book.  How do I force a sync?

On October 18, 2007—with less than 24 hours notice for most users—Apple announced that .Mac synchronization services would change substantially to accommodate Panther users. Here is the text of that notice, which many users apparently did not receive:
"Dear .Mac member:
Due to improvements being made to .Mac Sync on October 19, 2007, please note the following changes.
Mac OS X version 10.4 Tiger users:
To ensure uninterrupted service, you must be using Mac OS X version 10.4.10. To check which version you’re running, select About This Mac in the Apple menu. If you are not running version 10.4.10, click the Software Update button and install the update to 10.4.10.
Mac OS X version 10.3 Panther users:
To accommodate new enhancements, .Mac Sync will no longer support syncing of calendars between a Panther-based Mac and a Mac running Tiger or Leopard. Syncing calendars between Mac computers running Panther is unaffected.
These changes will help enable .Mac Sync to do more than ever. Thank you for your patience, and thank you for being a .Mac member.
That was ten days ago, and .Mac synchronization services are still undergoing 'maintenance.' There is not announced date by which stable, familiar service will be restored.
You can check the main page of .Mac to determine when the amber LED labeled Sync returns to green, or survey the this forum for information about service restoration. You'll see a previously updated status note at the top of the forum change when service is restored.

  • Address Book Sync Problems - 8530 and Outlook 2007

This has been a nagging problem for me for quite some time.  Here's my current status:
    Curve 8530 on Verizon Wireless
Access to Corporate resources and email via BES
I also access Gmail from the device
Right now I am not synching over the air - that has never worked.  I'm using Desktop Manager, and recently downgraded to Version 5.01.  When I connect the device and configure for Address Book sync the application starts the process, then craps out without synching.  I've rebooted the PC, reloaded the application without success.
And right now the device's address book is blank.  Any ideas?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Given that you are on BES, why in the world are you putting up with it's non-functionality? With BES, you should be receiving Over the Air (OTA) sync of email, contacts, calendar, tasks, etc...no need whatsoever to synchronize to Outlook via USB tether. If that is not working, then you should do one of two things:
    1) Talk to your BES admins and have them get it working properly for you...you are missing a lot!!!
    -- OR --
    2) Talk to your carrier about changing your data plan and dropping BES -- you are paying extra for a service that you cannot even use!!
Once you decide which path you wish to pursue, let us know.
    Good luck!

  • Address book sync problem: Phone #s & emails missing fr. iPhone

When I sync, I overwrite the iPhone address book and calendar with the one on my computer. I choose 'Replace information on this iPhone.'
Suddenly, none of the emails or phone numbers are showing up in the address book records on the iPhone. All the records are there, they're just missing the phone #s and emails. The phone numbers and emails are on the computer version of Address book, and other changes in the name and notes fields for each record are showing up.
Any ideas what could be causing this and how to fix it?

I'm not sure what you mean. When I look in the Address Book, I see the email addresses for each of my contacts, but the problem is they aren't syncing to my iPhone. Do you know how I can resolve this???

  • IPod Touch Address book sync problem

Is there a solution for this problem?

I just downloaded itunes 10 and threw a bunch of movies onto my ipod. I went to go watch them today at work and it says there is no video and no music on my ipod. but when i look at General>About> there are no songs no videos but there is only 178 mb avail on a 16gb ipod. so the Ipod is full but nothing is showing up. any ideas?

  • Address Book Syncing Problems and Won't Restore

I sync address book between two computers using .mac, and also publish it for another family member to use. This was working fine under Tiger, but I've recently noticed some issues in Leopard. Occasionally, instead of merging records, it will double them up. This morning, I noticed I had twice as many contacts as I should. For some reason, it added my entire .mac address book again back to my computer. Other times it had done that with only a few of the contacts.
Fortunately, I had done an Archive my address book just the other day. Unfortunately, it didn't help. I went to restore from the Archive using "Import" and "Address Book Archive". It warned me it was about to replace my entire address book with the Archive, but then nothing happened. All my contacts disappeared, but then all of them came back again, still doubled. I know it was not doubled when I did the archive, so it didn't really restore my Archive.
I finally fixed my doubled contacts problem by doing a one way sync from my second computer (which had not yet been affected by this) to .mac and then a one way sync from .mac to my laptop. I then turned off .mac syncing.
Then, a little while later I had 20 more contacts! I realized that this came from the fact that the address book is published and the subscriber has editing rights. But she did not add them. It was again a doubling problem, this time in the sharing function. So I turned off editing in sharing.
All is back now but I won't turn .mac syncing or shared editing back on until I understand what happened.
    Anyone else see these issues?

leopard 10.5.1 on macbookpro. instructions to fix missing sync for my treo 650 including backing up (exporting) then restoring the address book. i also am unable to restore.
the backup archive shows 6 MB.
i click import, choose the archive, verify that i want to replace all. the address book then shows only the address that was highlighted before import, still shows 1152 cards, but no other cards are visible. verified the search box is empty.
if i quit and restart address book, the original version of the address book is still there. apparently unable to import address book.

  • Address Book Sync Problems in Office Enviroment

I am a bit of a Mac newbie so pleas excuse any obvious questions
Problem: the network has about 10 macs running a mix of Tiger and Leopard. They have an address book (about 1200 contacts) set up on .mac (mobileme now I guess) and are having severe syncing issues.
A user will go in and update a contact and then exit. A different user will then go in and update or add a different contact and then the edit made by the other user disapears.
Obviously this is some sort of syncing issue. But I really don't know how to fix it.
Is it a problem between tiger and leopard or what? should they be having that many computers sync with one address book?
    Thanks for you help!

Maybe give Addresss Book Server (http://www.addressbookserver.com) a try. I am the developer and have been working on a solution for this problem for some time. Address Book Server let's you distribute your contacts and sync with your own Address Book Server running locally on your network. It support sharing your entire Address Book or a selection of groups. The enterprise edition available for free support SSL for off-site users, as well as provides a friendly web interface to access your contacts remotely or from non-Mac clients.
Disclaimer : I am the developer of this product, so naturally inclined to be biased towards it.

  • Address Book Sync Problems

When I enter new contact info into address book it won't show up in my iphone or web address book.
System Preferences is checked to sync address book, same with dot mac, the info is not getting through. I've tried everything.
So, why do deleted contacts hang on in .Mac and iPhone? After I've changed and deleted groups there is no change to iPhone groups or .Mac groups. Am I missing something?
    Open to ideas.

  • Lotus Notes/Blackberry address book sync problem

I am trying to provide support to one of my companies employees that is using Verizon 9630.  His blackberry has 150+ contacts on its address book but after activating in on our BES network it created another address book on the device that is sync'ing with Lotus Notes. We can't just copy those address's from the old BB contacts to the new created with BES activation. If you open the address book on the Blackberry, go to Options, under address books you see 2 Desktops, the old and the new. Unfortunately I can't just active wireless sync for the old one or copy the contents from one to the other.  I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to get his address's from the BB to Lotus Notes.
    Thanks for providing suggestions.
I did find an article about using another blank device and restoring the address book to it with desktop manager, but he is in another part of US so whatever it is I do will have to be virtual support.

  • IPhone to address book sync problem - bidirectional?

I have just bought a Mac and I want to sync all my contacts from my iPhone into Address Book.
When I went into iTunes and ticked Sync Address Book contacts, the one contact I had in Address Book appeared on my iPhone, but none of my iPhone contacts were in Address Book. I thought the sync was supposed to be bidirectional? I am new Mac user, I am just doing something stupid?

    OK, do this:
Launch isync from your applications folder, make sure itunes is NOT running. In isync, under preferences, click reset sync history. Give it a minute to run, then reboot your computer. Launch itunes, under preferences, disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected. Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC, control click the phone in the device pane & select reset warnings. On the info tab, make sure there are checks in the boxes labeled "Sync Address Book Contacts" & "Sync all Contacts". Once this is done & confirmed, sync. This should regenerate the merge or replace prompt, select merge.

  • Z10 multiple address book sync problem

    Hi All,
My Z10 is using ActiveSync to sync with Exchange. We setup to sync with personal contact with one ActiveSync account and the shared contact with another ActiveSync account.
The problem we are having is: No matter where we added new contact on the Z10. The new contact will sync with both ActiveSync accounts and the SIM card.
How do we force the added contact to be Sync with personal ActiveSync account?
    Thanks,
    Tom

There is no way, that I'm aware of, to have the address only added in one contact list and not all of them.

  • Address Book Sync is gunking up my MacBook Pro!

Everytime I first start up my MacBook from either sleep or first turning it on, it's ridiculously slow - everything I type takes about 30 seconds to show up on the screen while the little rainbow pinwheel does its thing. I took a look at the Activity Monitor, and it looks like the Address Book Sync that happens every time the system first starts up is crashing everything else - as soon as I Force Quit the application, it's smooth sailing. I'm wondering if there's a way to make it so the Address Book syncs only when I ask it to, so I don't have to wait 10 minutes to use my computer after first turning it on? Has anyone else had this problem?

Put one unique entry in both iCal & Address Book on your Mac. These entries can be fake, that doesn't matter, just make sure Address Book & iCal are not empty. Then when you select to sync contacts & calendars on the Info pane in iTunes, you'll get a merge or replace prompt. Select merge.

  • Address Book Sync running slow parallels and mac (iCloud)

Briefly, every time that "address book sync" becomes active on the Mac side, the computer on both the Mac and the Windows side becomes incredibly slow, almost usable. If I disable the "address book sync" through the activity monitor (force quit), the computer on both the Mac and Windows side restores to normal speed. I have 4 CPU's on this MAc book pro and i have configured parallels to 2 for the Mac side and 2 for the Windows side. I have also allocated 2GB of memory to the Windows 7 side which is within the recommended range of 512MB to 4GB (Maximum memory is 16BG).
I have also noticed in "activity monitor" that the process name "prl_vm_app" can run as high as 200% of cpu usage and vary anywhere from its current level whilst writing this email of 5% upwards. This does not however seem to affect the speed of the computer and again this is being caused by "address book sync". For information I am running Outlook on the windows side and using "contacts" and this is also being replicated on the mac side in "contacts". Whenever I update or enter a new contact in the windows side (Contacts in outlook) then address book sync starts shortly after on the Mac side and the computer slows considerably.
I have iCloud working on the mac side and windows side syncing my contacts calendar etc.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same problem too. My iphone is not syncing with my addressbook on the mac, no matter what I try, it is very very frustrating!!

  • DM 6-y address Book Sync leads to error code 0x80040fb3

DM 6-y address Book Sync leads to error code 0x80040fb3.  I have done the following:
rebooted 6000+ tijmes (or mabe a bit less than that)
performed a security wipe on my device
reinstalled DM 6 software several times
Had "I-Yogi" technicians try to fix
    Used "cellrepair service"
Bottom line--I'm not a computer guy.  I just want my BB9550 Storm to be able to sync with outlook.  Calendar, Memo and Tasks sync with no problem.  Address books always stops after 121 records are synced and then I get the error code.
Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.  I'm now insane and don't know what to do.

    That is certainly one option.
If you want to continue, here is a KB for activating advanced logging to see if that provides you with anything useful:
KB01451How to turn on advanced synchronization logging if a wired synchronization fails
I've also heard on these forums that if you export your contact list from Outlook (to CSV, ASCII or something else), the order they come out in is the same order that the synchronization works in...which might better help you identify the offending record (which you could then delete and re-create).
    Good luck!

  • Why won't my computer's address book sync ALL of my contacts with my iPhone?  no MobileMe, no iCloud, just straight from computer to phone.

Why won't my computer's address book sync ALL of my contacts with my iPhone?  No MobileMe, no iCloud, just straight from computer to phone.  I have checked all the settings and all seems correct.  It simply won't pull in all of the contacts.  Last time, it added some new ones, but deleted others.

I found the route of the problem! All the songs under 'On This Phone' are completely grayed out! The only question is now how do I ungray them???

  • Old Address Book syncing with iPad via iTunes!

Forgive me if I'm going over old ground but there seem to be a number of threads to do with Address Book syncing, but I haven't managed to find a definitive answer, so here goes ...
I have an iPad [3] under iOS.5.1and an OSX.6.8 quad-core i7 iMac and I sync them via iTunes.
Everything, absolutley everything, syncs just fine, Calendars, Photos, etc. etc. - except, that is, for Address Book and Contacts.
The iMac Address Book is fully up to date, yet the version on the iPad is not only an old version, but a version which hasn't been current since before the iPad was bought and first sync'd!
    Bizarre!
In an attempt to correct this, I unchecked the iTunes "Info > Sync Contacts button and resync'd.
The ipad Contacts book was empty - which is what I expected.
i then checked the button again and resync'd - and the old Address Book data was resync'd!
What is clear is that the iPad's version reflects that which is in the iTunes "Selected Groups" window and not what is actually in the Address Book, so I presume that the error lies with iTunes and/or my iMac and not the ipad iteself.  The iPad is, after all, only reflecting what iTunes tells it.
So, my friends, why does iTunes not show the current Address Book indiviudal cards and Groups?
From where should it be getting it's information and how can I ensure that it does get the latest version?
If there is a rogue old copy somewhere, what could it be called and how can I find it and delete it and then, perhaps amend the default path to the correct version?
All software and apps on both devices are fully up to date at the time of posting this heartfelt crie de coure!
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Well, eventually I had to go to the Level 2 (or whetver they are called) AppleCare geeks to get this resolved, as the "normal" guys couldn't resolve it.
After much "try this ...", "try that ..." and "try the other ..." they narrowed the problem down to a corrupt Address Book Group header in my iMac's Address Book.
It appears impossible to find out just which of my 55 Group headers was corrupt and the only way around it was to export all Contacts individually as vCards, dlete every Group and individual card entry in the Addreess Book and reimport all the vCards - and then somewhat tediously recreate all my Groups again from scratch.
It took  around two and a half hours on the phone to AppleCare and forever to recreate the Groups, but at least it solved the problem!
Whether this helps anyone else i cannot tell, but if you have a bizarre syncing pronblem it might be worth looking at this as a solution.
But take my tip:  before embarking on this, make an entry in the Notes section of each card so that you know to which Group or Groups a card belongs because it was a feat of memory way beyond me to remeber all of them and I still have the odd orphan in there awaiting a home!
