Address Book sync to iPod Touch problems

First synch seemed ok but following synchs missing whole groups, new entries and changes, whether made on the pod or the Macbook. Set the itunes to overwrite on next synch, result; no addresses at all on the pod.
iTunes is now not showing the list of address book categories at all.
Have reset iSync history, rebuilt permissions and now out of ideas..

There are so many funky things being reported with syncing both Address Book and iCal, probably no one knows. Mine used to sync fine (before which upgrade I don't know), but now I get only the group names and absolutely no addresses! You might try resetting the sync history in iTunes (advanced tab I think); that has been reported to sometimes help. It could make it worse, though. Good luck.
Here's a place to report syncing bugs; maybe if Apple hears from enough of us these synching issues will get higher priority:

Is there a way to export my Address Book to my iPod touch so that I can access it through my email account on the iPod?

One of the main functions of the ipod touch is to sync your address book and calendar.

  • Can I overwrite contacts in Address book with my iPod Touch contacts?

I'm an idiot - I somehow managed to delete ALL of my contacts in Address book. I don't use Time Machine (not enough external HD space) so I can't restore that way.
I did happen to sync my iPod Touch shortly before I deleted everything so my contacts are fine there. Short of re-typing everything into Address Book, is there a way I can tell iTunes to overwrite my contacts with the ones from the iPod touch?
It's the only place I have my contacts - and because I enabled Google sync, it deleted all of my Google contacts too! HELP!!

If you sync, the contacts will be copied back into Address Book on your Mac. You should get an error message that pops from iSync (a warning about changing more than 5% of your data), which you should Allow.
In case you're worried, I have tested this (backed up my address book, then deleted the contents, then synced and my contacts were restored from my IPT).
    Hope this helps...

  • How can I sync contacts in my address book to my iPod Touch 2nd Generation with iTunes 10.5.2?

My iPod Touch with OS 4.2.1 will no longer sync contacts from my address book on my computer now that I've upgraded to iTunes 10.5.2 and to Lion.  I have ensured that the iPod Touch is set to synchronize all my contacts.   The calendar continues to sync.

I have the same situation. I believe I disconnected iCloud by going into preferences and also unclicking the box for Contacts. What am I missing?

  • I cannot sync my Mac's Address Book to my iPod Touch (2G), via iTunes. All else syncs, just not Contacts. Why?

I realize I can't do this with iCloud, but now I can't with a cord and iTunes. I even reset to factory settings and tried again. I even tried the advanced option to "replace information on this iPod with information from this computer", clicking Contacts. But nothing. I have no contacts in my iPod. What am I missing here?

I do not think the problem was solved - what was completed was a work around.
I have the same problem - open itunes, plug in iphone, select info, synch contacts, select merge contacts (iphone contacts will move to address book and visa versa) Mac to Iphone success - Iphone to Mac - no go.
This is how it should work - and it is not???  Why?  How do you make the itunes synch work?
Synching with mobile me is a great work around - if you use mobile me.
Synching with icloud is great to backup but does not get contacts added on your iphone onto your mac.
How do you get contacts added to your iphone into address book on your map with synch?

  • Sync my Mac address book to my iPod Touch after the Cloud

I have a MacBook Pro version 10.5.8.  I cannot update it because of a project I'm working on that has old software that I cannot update while in the middle of it.
I have been on MobileMe since its inception.
I tried to sync my Contacts and Calendar on my Mac with my iPod Touch, ios 3.1.3, via iTunes.  Some of the changes came across and others didn't.  I always make changes/additions on my Mac.  Do I have to overwrite the iPod in order to reflect all the changes?

I have the exact some thing happening to me.

  • Address Book sync with Google Contacts problem

After creating a Google Apps account for my new domain, I've configured my Address Book application on my Mac-book Air to sync with Google. I created a contact on the Mac-Book and after a sync I saw it in Google's web client. I created a contact on Google's web client and after a sync it appeared in in Address Book.
After two weeks, the sync stopped working. I didn't changed nothing on the computer. Suddenly I noticed that the contacts sync doesn't work anymore.
iCal and Mail are still working great. the problem is only with Address Book.
I searched Google Help. I reset the Sync Services, soft and hard, still not working. I'm not using iCloud or any other sync.
    Do you have any idea?

    can anyone answer this?
at some point, I remember being able to do this. 10.5.x maybe? With 10.6 . . . .
I do recall, however, that I stopped doing it because the sync went haywire. I did it the other way around: I have all my contacts in Address Book, so I exported them and uploaded the vCards to Gmail, after deleting all Gmail contacts. That's not such a great option. Surely this is well-automated by now?

  • Syncing to ipod touch - problems with authorizing pc

I'm a newbie to Apple and love my iPod touch, I've been downloading apps and movies etc without issue.  Then last week it stopped saying I need to authorise my pc, it has removed all iPod content back to the library and I can't download anything at all now.
Nothing has happened to my pc, although I have backed all up and uninstalled/reinstalled and also put the ipod back to factory settings
I have 2 pcs authorized from viewing my account, but I can't get it to sync - any ideas?
I can download anything from the iTunes store, so my account is fine, it is just this sync issue.

Thanks for the reply Illaas, my answers are below:
Have you tried deauthorizing the computer and then authorizing it?
    -         Yes – I can de-authorize it, then when I try toauthorize again I get ‘We could not complete your iTunes Store request.  The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later’
Does iTunes say it is authorized? If you go to the Itunes Store on youcomputer the account will be list in the black bar in the right upper part ofthe screen.
    -         iTunes recognises my account and is displayed on theblack bar - yes
Do you have more than one iTunes account?
    -         no
Is the iPod signed in the iTunes account.  To check go toSettings>Store.
    -         No it is not, so there should be no conflict
I am a little confused when yo say it stopped asking you to authorize thecomputer.  It should only ask once and then when you authorize it you willno longer get the message..
    -         Everytime I want to sync the iPod it tells me it cannottransfer any content from my library saying:
    -         ‘Some of the items in the iTunes library (mentions theitem). Were not copied to the iPod “the name of my ipod” because you are notauthorised for them on this computer.  Toauthorise this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store, choose Store> Authorise This Computer.”  When Iclick ok and the go to Store > Authorise This Computer I get the message ‘Wecould not complete your iTunes Store request.  The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later’  This is aconstant loop I am in, so feel that Apple need to reset my account somehow.
Also look here and the related articles listed on the left side of thefollowing:

    -         Thanks I’ve been through all of this and changed theaccount settings and deleted the SC folder as detailed.

  • Cannot get Address Book on my iPod 2nd gen

If i try to remove icloud it just remove my original contact in my Mac, I am very upset at this because I cannot get my contact to sync with my address book on my iPod touch 2nd gen.
I will stay away from iCloud if I can and go back to the way I was until bugs get worked out, or when I understand the inner working or purpose of that mess that i am in.
I need to simply sync contacts from my Mac mini to my iPod manually if possible, I try every options in iTune.
Thanks for reading any clue is very welcome, I just buy a Mac mini and I am extremely happy. Hope this iCloud nightmare will get resolved.

What happens when you connect the iPod to your computer and try to restore via iTunes? Error message?

  • IPod Touch Address book sync problem

new contacts which has been generated with my iMac address book does't sync with iPod touch. I'm using iTunes 10, iPod OS 4.1, iPod touch 2nd generation, 18 month old iMac (10.6.4).
iCal is synchronizing without problem, I use german operating system.
Is there a solution for this problem?

I just downloaded itunes 10 and threw a bunch of movies onto my ipod. I went to go watch them today at work and it says there is no video and no music on my ipod. but when i look at General>About> there are no songs no videos but there is only 178 mb avail on a 16gb ipod. so the Ipod is full but nothing is showing up. any ideas?

  • New Address Book SYNC and ITUNES Problems- HELP!!!

When I try to tick the check box to syncornize my address book in my iPod preferences panel, I get the following message: "No contacts available- contact syncing cannot be enabled because there are no contacts available. Do you want to open Address Book and create contacts now?" When I do, Address Book opens (full of the 1100 contacts), but does not resolve the problem. Neither does deleting then reimporting the contacts, nor restoring from back up, nor Disk Warrior's rebuilding of the Directory.
Likewise, when I try to use iSync with my phones (until recently working by the way), I cannot tick the sync 'Contacts' box and then choose a phonebook, as it just gives me All Contacts as the only option. And even then, when I try to sync, I get a "sync failed" message.
These probelms started occurring after a kernal panic that happened when I connected my Sony Ericsson w800i to my computer via a USB cable. iPhoto and iTunes freaked out, but have since been restored to working order. But when I connected the new video iPod for the first time, I couldn't get it to sync with Address Book nor iCal. iCal works today, but not so the Address Book.
Yikes....if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

THANK YOU for this solution; after trying MANY things to get my addresses to sync again, this fixed my sync problem! One suggestion I would add is if you try this, be sure to check the box "sync notes when exporting vCards" (Address Book: preferences) before exporting. The first time I lost my notes, but just removed the folder again and exported with notes. I had to recreate all my groups, but a small price to pay to get my addresses syncing again to my iPod.
I think one of the address files may have become corrupt, POSSIBLY after my iPod appeared to be stuck during a sync one time, but I later discovered that there was a sync dialogue box hidden behind iTunes waiting for my response. Problems seemed to start after that.

  • Syncing Address Book contacts with iPod

I know some people will think this post should be in the iPod forum but I have realised that it is not my iPod beccasue I tried using a different iPod and the same problem happened. Anyway...the problem is that when I choose to sync Address Book contacts with iPod it comes up with this message:
    No contacts available
Contact syncinig cannot be enabled because there are no contacts available. Do you want to open Address Book and create contacts now?
And gives me the options: Cancel and Open Address Book
I have tried deleting several different preferences for iTunes, Address Book and iSync (just incase).
I don't know what else to do, I know I can manually add my contacts by exporting them all as a vCard but it would be so much easier if iTunes could do it. Please help if you know anything!

I've got Calenders syncing again, not sure how I did it. I deleted the one of the folders in /Users/Alex/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/
I found that in each folder there is a clientname.txt file with the name of what data is in the folder e.g. iCal, Safari, Keychain, Mail.
I deleted the iCal one and iTunes seems to be syncing it now. So I looked for a folder with Address Book in the clientname.txt file but there wasn't one. I am wondering whether that's the reason!

  • Problems syncing my ipod touch 4th gen

I am having problems syncing my ipod touch 4th gen to itunes.  I keep getting an error message stating iTunes could not back up the iPod "name of ipod" because an error occured.  My daughter and I both use the same computer to sync our ipod's and this problem only occurs when I try to sync mine.  It works fine syncing hers and I have tried to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it.  Please help

Try placing the iPod backup file in a safe location so iTunes has to create an entire new file.  It is located here:
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

  • Problems syncing my iPod Touch after I updated to iOS 8.1

    Hi,
Yesterday, I tried to sync my iPod Touch with iTunes. It was taking a considerable longer time then it generally takes. Finally, it said there not enough room on my iPod, but I should have had  more than enough... I had about 5 gigs available. After I began taking music, videos etc off, I found out that the other content was taking up about 30 gigs. I ended up resetting the iPod. Now it's having problems syncing music, movies & tv.

  • Address Book Sync Problems - 8530 and Outlook 2007

This has been a nagging problem for me for quite some time.  Here's my current status:
    Curve 8530 on Verizon Wireless
Access to Corporate resources and email via BES
I also access Gmail from the device
Right now I am not synching over the air - that has never worked.  I'm using Desktop Manager, and recently downgraded to Version 5.01.  When I connect the device and configure for Address Book sync the application starts the process, then craps out without synching.  I've rebooted the PC, reloaded the application without success.
And right now the device's address book is blank.  Any ideas?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Given that you are on BES, why in the world are you putting up with it's non-functionality? With BES, you should be receiving Over the Air (OTA) sync of email, contacts, calendar, tasks, etc...no need whatsoever to synchronize to Outlook via USB tether. If that is not working, then you should do one of two things:
    1) Talk to your BES admins and have them get it working properly for you...you are missing a lot!!!
    -- OR --
    2) Talk to your carrier about changing your data plan and dropping BES -- you are paying extra for a service that you cannot even use!!
Once you decide which path you wish to pursue, let us know.
    Good luck!
