Address book version is only 3.1.2

How come if I loaded to 10.4.6 from DVD, then upgraded to 10.4.8, my address book version is only 3.1.2?

Good question!
What does “I loaded to 10.4.6 from DVD” mean?
Cold it be that you have more than one copy of the Address Book application on your disk? Ctrl-click or right-click on the Address Book icon in the Dock and choose Show in Finder. What’s the title of the window that opens in the Finder?

  • Address Book Version - Google Sync

I have my iMac address book synced to Google Contacts and wanted to set up my Powerbook the same way but didn't find the same setup screens. When I checked, the Address Book version on my iMac is 5.0.1 (864) and on my Powerbook it is 4.1.2 (702). I thought Software Update would keep my Address Book software current. Maybe it is and I have the latest version on my Powerbook.
Before I try it, does anyone know if Address Book Version 5.0.1 (864) will work on a Powerbook? If so, I can just Firewire it over there. For those of you who know the Apple website, could I have found the answers to these questions there? I looked but was unsuccessful.

Address Book 4.1.2 is the version that runs in OS X 10.5.8, the last OS version any Powerbook can run. Your iMac is apparently running Snow Leopard and its later version of Address Book. Because SL requires an Intel processor, I doubt that its version of AB will run on a Powerbook.

  • HT204150 Hi, I made a mistake by allowing facebook to download all my contacts in my address book. Now i need to clean my address book and keep only my original contacts. If i do it on my macbook, will it reflect on my iphone?

Hi, I made a mistake by allowing facebook to download all my contacts in my address book. Now i need to clean my address book and keep only my original contacts. If i do it on my macbook, will it reflect on my iphone? Or will my iphone redownload all the contacts i deleted when i connect it to my macbook or through the cloud?
when working with icloud, is there a primary device (macbok, ipad...) on which if the changes are made, they reflect on all other devices?

I see.  If you are syncing contacts with iCloud on both your Mac and your iPhone, deleting a contact from either device will delete them from icloud.com and all other devices.
What's really going on with iCloud is that your contacts actually reside on the iCloud server.  Your Mac and iPhone are merely reading the current contact list as it exists on the server.  When you delete a contact (or make any other change) on either device, you are making these changes on the server.  As a result, all other devices "syncing" contacts with the same iCloud account will read this change.  When you log onto icloud.com, you are viewing the server from your browser.

  • How do I import addresses from Address Book Ver 4.1.2 to the Lion Address Book version 7.0? Mountain Lion will not allow me to open Address book Version 4.1.2

How do I import addresses from Address Book Ver 4.1.2 to the Lion Address Book version 7.0? Mountain Lion will not allow me to open Address book Version 4.1.2

Do you have any addresses in the Lion version?
If not, copy the AddressBook folder from your username/Library/Application Support/ folder on the old mac (or backup).
Copy it to the same location on your new Mac, replacing the one that is there. Start Address Book in Mountain Lion and it should convert the files to the correct format.
If you do have addresses, it is a little more complicated.
First, create a Contacts Archive (from File>Export menu). This will be your backup.
Next, export the current contacts as vCards.
    Then, follow the steps above.
Then, import all the cards you exported. If you select all and double-click, it will ask if you want to add them. You'll then have to add them to whatever groups you had set up.

  • HT2486 How do I open Address Book version 4.0 on a new operating system OS X?

My mom's computer wasn't updated to a newer operating system. Finally got her system updated but can no longer open her address book or view any of her contacts. Have tried to open the file with another program and some other ideas, but nothing is seeming to work. Any ideas?

    HI,
I am going to phrase this another way.
The Address Book in OS versions up to Lion has changed it's name.
An Upgrade to Mountain Lion should have taken care of moving the Address Book details to the new Contacts app.
It is an Apple app rather than being part of the OS.
However it is fair to say it comes with the OS and is closing integrated into many other Apple app such as Messages and Mail.
Migrating stuff from an older Mac User Account should have only been the User's Folder and not older version of Apps that may not even launch on the new OS
Address Book 4.0 is early in the life of Leopard (OS X 10.5.x) and would normally be at version 4.1 by the time the OS X hits the last update at OS X 10.5.8
I would check you have Contacts in the Applications folder.
(if some Apple Apps are moved into Sub folders then they don't get Updated or Upgraded properly - I have heard for instance of someone putting iChat in with other IM apps in a IM app folder within the Applications folder which causes iChat not to update)
Note iChat should have upgraded to the Messages app.

  • Office Shared Address Book - OD Master Only?

    I followed directions at
    http://osxupgrade.com/create-a-global-address-book-with-mac-os-x-snow-leopard-se rver/456/
But I did not have a group on the server called 'AB Read-Write Groups'.
So I tried on a different server which happens to be the Open Directory Master (the first one was a replica).
The 'AB Read-Write Groups' group showed up in good order.
Perhaps it is coincidence.... can anyone confirm whether the group would only appear on an OD Master for any technical reason? I would like to run this on the first server.
    Thanks,
    b.

Technically it is not in the Open Directory Master as it is a local user account. That makes your question more like - why would that local account not exist on a another server. No idea - but I think you can only do this (and I never knew about this hack) on the OD master since there is where your directory is maintained.

  • Address Book Version 4.1 (687) can not add new contact Leopard OSX 10.5

Well, I have tried to add a contact using Mail, or using Address Book.
    No-Go.
The "New Card" under File->New Card is even grayed out. I have over 16 Gigs of space available, so it is not a space issue on the hard drive.
I do use and sync with i-Phone, could that be an issue?

What happened when you tried to revert to backup on the Tiger machines? The data structures used by Leopard Address Book are completely different from those used by Tiger.
You should be able to get the notes transferred in vCards - make sure that you have the option set in Leopard Address Book's vCard preferences.

  • Smart folder for address book version 3.12?

Hi I have a iBook with OS 10.4, I also have a Imac G3 with OS 10.3.9 and i have imported some 600+ addesses from the iBook with notes (vCards) but the ability to sort by smart mailboxes seems not to be there and i don't see any up dates for the older address book available.
I tried to just take the address book file from the 10.4 machine to the 10.3.9 machine but that didn't work. Is there any way go get either the folders and addresses or set up some smart folders for the older machine?
    Thanks
    Philip

Ahh, Thanks Duane, guessed that might be the case. I had hoped that I would not have to spend A$2500 to get this little bit of functionality! I am trying to squeeze the most I can out of the $ I have already spent

  • Apparently I inadverdently clicked on something that changed my address book listings to showing only the first three letters of each name -

the column showing my address book now shows only the first three characters of each name
it's like they have all been abbreviated
I have to try and decipher the name from those three characters before clicking
    to see the
person's address window with the full information
I would like to be able to read the entire name- first & last like before
    Thank you in advance

try dragging the column heading to make the column wider

  • Lion Address Book question (version 6.1.2)

In Lion's address book (version 6.1.2), after importing a v-card, the application doesn't automatically navigate to the newly imported v-card (like it did in Leopard).  How can I get it to navigate automatically to the newly imported v-card, right after importing??

Then restore from you Mac laptop's backup, if you have not been backing up then you may be in for a very painful lesson on why backing up is the VERY FIRST thing you should do with any new Mac. Create a backup plan and use it on a regular basis. If the laptop was using 10.5.x or later then you have absolutely no excuse for not backing up. Sorry for being terse and blunt but Time Machine has been built into 10.5.x, 10.6.x and 10.7.x so we have had years to have a seamless and mindless method of backing up. If you have been using an earlier verision of OS X there are quite a number of methods of backing up.
If you aren't successful then take the laptop and iMac to your local Apple Store or AASP and they may be able to help you recover your contacts.

  • Why is there missing info in the windows address book fields after syncing iphone 4 contacts?

I am reaching the end of my rope trying to deal with syncing/backing up contacts and other "non copyright protected" content from my iphone 4 and my desktop (and preferably my laptop as well).  I've spent literally days trying to solve this problem with ultimately no solution.  So, cutting through my MULTIPLE issues and focusing on one primary I need help backing up my contacts from my iphone 4 to ANY computer.  Here is what I am working with:
A relatively ancient (5yrs) Window XP desktop with virtually no contacts in Windows Address Book and with only the native Outlook Express on it.
An iphone 4 ios 4.3.1 that was initially and is still setup/synced with the above XP box (minus checking the sync contacts box).
An iphone 4 contact list that is primarily populated by about 200 contacts transfered from an old ATT SIM from the previous ancient phone.
A new Windows 7 laptop that I would love, love, love to use in conjuction with the XP for syncing/backing up not protected, personal data and iphone purchases.
So, with that in mind I have been syncing my phone with the XP w. the "manual manage music..." box checked and all other syncing options other than apps unchecked.  I wanted to backup by contacts for emergency recovery and to allow sycncing for the increasing business contacts.  Should be easy right?  Not so much.  I tried clicking the "sync contacts w/ windows address book" option and then synced.  I go to WAB and the contact list is there.  However, if I look w/in each contact the fields are not filled in.  If it was a contact that had name, number, address on my phone the WAB version has the name listing but nothing in the number/addy fields.  Now, this is true w/ virtually every contact and most were from that SIM transfer.  HOWEVER, contacts that I added ON the iphone (ie manually w/ the phone) DO have complete information.
So, what do I do to make an actual, complete backup of all the contacts on my iphone w/o having to manually reinput all of the real information??  I'm frankly terrified that in trying multiple solutions I will lose all my phone contacts which at this point in my life would be absolutely devistating (ie I would probably lose my job).  If it is a matter of newer hard/software I would gladly sync to the new Win 7 laptop instead but there I run into the other aggrivation of apple making it so bloody difficult to use one ios device with more than one personal computer.  I'm dumbfounded and frustrated on soooooo many levels and would send countless good vibes to anyone who can help!   Advice?  Solutions?  I'd promise my first born but who wants that these days...?  Help, please! ;-)
BTW, sorry for the long wind but I'll add on my "optimal solution" if anyone is feeling especially helpful and has an answer:
I'd like to be able to plug my iphone into both my XP desktop and my Win 7 laptop and sync/backup to both freely (that is after all the real intent of syncing, non?)  I don't care about music, videos, or other protected content.  I manage that manually and frankly, I can do without having on the iphone as long as I can accomplish being able to sync/backup/restore all the iphone stuff like apps, settings, personal info, and contacts to both the desktop and the laptop.  The purpose is that I need to be able to use and recover everything (on the road or at home) if either my laptop or my iphone dies/disappears.  But, understanding impermanence as it relates to portable devices, I want a solid backup of everything at home waiting on my desktop.  Is that really too much to ask apple???

Seriously folks?  I know it was long but I added all info to negate a need for endless back/forth clarifications.  No answers???
FYI, i tried syncing contacts to google/gmail and it was a total clusterF as well.  No gmail contacts, synced iphone, gmail contacts populated w/ all info but w/lots of repeat entries.  Used seek and merge repeats in gmail and then resync but no such luck.  Lots of iterations and nothing but fails.  Seems everytime the phone and the gmail lists are "as desired" a new sync puts a ton of repeats back into gmail or onto phone.  Still perplexed and still needing help....
    pretty please....
