Hello, first try this...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
Then see this thread for possible solutions...

  • My address book won't open after installing Lion. Has this happened to anyone else?

I recently upgraded to Lion and couldn't be more pleased, except that my address book won't open now. It just bounces and then gives up and sends an error report to Apple. Please help.

I have the same problem. Has anyone solved this problem?

  • Apple Address Book Won't Open

On my iMac G5, my Apple Address Book won't open. It has been working perfectly and I've never had a problem since buying the computer about a year ago. Though the name appears on the top menu bar and the triangle shows beneath the Address Book icon on the Dock, nothing appears on the screen. I ran the Disk Utility Repair Permissions, but aht didn't correct it. I've rebooted and that didn't solve the issue either. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Verify/repair your disk first (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
I don't know how to troubleshoot Address Book, other than replacing its data with a backup copy if you have one, or just getting rid of that data. Address Book stores the preferences in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist, and everything else in the ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder.
You may try moving those files out of there, to the Desktop. You may try removing just the com.apple.AddressBook.plist preferences file (so that Address Book re-creates it again), for example, or removing just AddressBook.data and renaming AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data. Whatever you do, make a backup copy of those files first, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder.

  • 10.4.7 update and now my Address Book won't open

I recently ran a software update and the Mac OS X Update 10.4.7 errored out. After the required restart I now find my Address Book won't open.
Any advise to fix this problem?
Is it safe to run the 10.4.7 update again or will this problem repeat?

    hi there--
i would check out this thread. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1863756&#1863756 basically, try repairing permissions first. then if that does nothing, see if you have your addressbook.data file. it's possible you could rename a file like this user to regain your info. if the addressbook.data file is there, select it and get info on it by pressing the apple and i on the keyboard. ensure that you have read/write access to the folder. make yourself the owner and make the rest of the fields as open as possible. also, if the address book launches in a different user (you could create a test user) you could do a number of things. if you have a backup of the address book in another place you can try pulling the com.apple.addressbook.plist from the preferences folder in the home user library. do not do this if you have no backup. also you could check ~library/address book plug-ins. if there's stuff in there, try pulling folder to desktop and restarting the computer. keep me posted as to whether or not you make any progress. • ICal, Mail, and Address Book won't open

When I open Mail, iCal, or Address Book, the application bounces a couple times in the dock and then immediately closes. Any idea what might be causing this and how I can fix it?
I've repaired file permissions and that didn't work. I also tried (as suggested in another forum) removing the folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook , to no avail.
Immediately before this problem occurred, I ran PACE's repair prebinding script (I need to do this occasionally to run Pro Tools on 10.4.10), but I'm not sure if that's related. I've run the script a few times before without any problems.

  • Address Book won't open.

A friend of mine has an old iMac G4 (10.3.9)
    http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/597/imacg41039qq2.jpg
And he just recently bought the latest Macbook, and wanted to transfer all his files over, so I talked him through it, and everything worked fine.
Except he was having an issue with transferring his Address Book over, it was just a case of not knowing how to do it.
So I popped over to his place, and just as I was about to export I noticed all his (100's) address' were duplicated 8 times each!
So I suggested to Merge them all before we do the export, so we selected ALL and clicked on Merge.
Then we got the "Spinning Beach Ball" and I wasn't surprised, as the machine only has about 256MB RAM, I figured it would take a while to process.
But right then, unfortunately there was a power cut in his block for 30 minutes!
When everything came back on we were unable to open the address book!
It bounced once, and then nothing, I could see the small black arrow under the Address book icon in the dock, but there was nothing.
So, this is what I tried to do:
1 - I shut the machine down and restarted holding down the options-command-P-R keys all at once, did the 3 chimes in order to reset the Pram, but no luck.
2 - I took the Address Book out of the Applications Folder and onto the desktop, and tried to open it from there, but still no joy (so I put it back).
3 - I ran 'Disk Utility' which showed nothing.
4 - I went into mail, and was able to open up the email address book there, but I couldn't see the physical real home address' which is what my friend really needs.
And the 'Start Up' 10.3 Install disks got lost long ago, I think!
So now we're stuck. I'd just like to get this whole address book out of this iMac and into the new Macbook.
The intention is to clear the machine up, and pass it on to a younger member of the family as a free gift (in good working order).
I'm sure there must be a way around this, and if anyone can help I'd be very, very grateful...
Right now I'm getting looks from my friend of "I thought you knew what you were doing?" LOL :-D

    Hi Tom,
First of all, I'd like to thank you for taking time out to help.
But sadly +(or maybe stupidly)+ he never backed up his Address Book!
I tried what you suggested, but no application would open that 'data file' on the iMac, I then copied it to the desktop of the MacBook, and I had the same problem, I'm just unable to open it!
If you have anymore suggestions, I'd be very grateful?
    K.

  • Address Book won't open in Snow Leopard

    Hi,
    I have Snow Leopard 10.6.1
When I try opening my address book I get the message: "You can't use this version of the application Address Book with this version of Mac OS X. You have Address Book 4.1.1."
    How can this be?
This is not quite an emergency since I still have access to my address book through Mobile Me, or my Entourage address book, but still.
    Anybody understand this issue?
    Thanks

Hey guys I had the exact same problem as you did and didn't find the fix until opening the Guest Account wiped my entire profile. (seen in the Login forum)
From what I can tell, you need to make a new user account for the Contacts application to work, as it replaces it with a new version (5.0), if you don't want to copy over all your files to a new account you could try copying over Contacts 5.0 to your other users Documents folder, then copying it from there to the Applications folder on your old user.
    Hope I've helped

  • Address Book won't open (without crashing) in Snow Leopard

OK, I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I have yet to get Address Book to work successfully since upgrading to Snow Leopard. When I click on the icon, the Address Book window appears, says I have "0 cards" (when, of course, I have many more than that), and then before I can take any action (i.e., click on anything), the spinning beach ball appears. This has occurred even after restarting the machine and attempting to move the preference file out of the user Library.
    Any thoughts on this?

I am having the same problem with mail and addressbook - both upon launching result in spinning beach balls - requiring force quit. I have seen and tried to remove the preference files related to address book, as well as the smart groups to noavail - also noted is my laptop now runs incredibly hot and battery performance is markedly degraded.

  • HT2486 My address book won't work

I just installed Snow Leopard and now my address book won't open. It says I have address book 4.1.2, but I can't find an update or anything for it. Help please! I need my addresses!

The latest version of address book for 10.6.8 is 5.0.3
You could apply, if you haven't already (or) reapply the combo update  Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
That should solve your problem.  You should also check out software update for things like the new security update 2012 004.

  • My address book will not open. Can someone help me?

My address book won't open. I can add new address's from a email but when I try to edit anything it will not open. I run an imac, with os x10.4.11.

Ok... this software: Pacifist can extract applications from your system restore disk. You could try that.
Or... go here for help with reinstalling Mac OS applications:

Question for you. How much free drive space do you have? Check to see how much available drive space you have. Right or Control Click your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window, select the black arrow so it faces down. You will see Capacity and Available. Make sure your have a minimum of 10% free drive space, 15% is better. Not enough available drive space will cause apps to not open, freezes, and crashes.

  • Address Book Will Not Open in 10.2.8

I just received an older PowerPC G4 with 10.2.8 at work and while making changes to some stuff I noticed that Address Book would not open. It pops up like it's opening in the dock and then quits and disappears.
I've read around and it seems that when most people are having the Helvetica font problem. I checked that and everything is cool there, I've even moved all the plist stuff to the desktop to no avail. I have no idea what could be wrong.
The console gives me this when I try to run Address Book...
dyld: /Applications/Address Book.app/Contents/MacOS/Address Book can't open library: /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/SyncServices (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
...but I can't find anything online. Anybody able to help me out with this problem?
    PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Somehow you've retained an old version of Addressbook (version 5.0.3).  The current version is 6.1
Look in the apps folder to see if you have the current version, the dock icon may be pointing to the old version.

  • Address Book won't import photos from iPhoto

Address Book won't import photos from iPhoto. It's greyed out. Any solution?

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

  • Address book won't save changes to note field

Like the header says. Address book won't save changes to note field. There's another thread with the same header:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2591053?threadID=2591053  But it's archived so I had to post this new one.
If I made a change in any non-note field however, it would stay.
Note: the notes field can be edited with actually having to go into official "edit" mode. Does this make it more prone to corruption? Why would Apple make the notes field NOT need that extra step of protection. Do they think my notes aren't as important?  How would they know?
I fixed this one card with a bandaid solution by exporting it and reimporting it.  But I guess I need to do that with all 2,000 of my contacts now. It was mentioned on theother thread that somebody made an address book backup and then deleted every contact in the address book and imported them fresh from the backup and that worked.
The underlyilng issue is still not solved though. How could this happpen in the first place, and how do I know what other contacts haven't held lthe changes I thought I made?

    Hi,
    Using the Note field
You can add notes to any contact in Address Book. This makes it easy to keep track of details about a person in your address book.
Select the person in the Name column in Address Book, then click the Note field in the card.
The Note field can be edited at any time, even if the card is not in edit mode.
You could make a dedicated field that requires the edit button...
    Using custom labels
You can change the label that appears next to a piece of information on a contact's card. For example, you might want to change "work" to "support" next to a phone number.
Select the contact that you want to change.
Click the Edit button at the bottom of the window.
Click the label next to a field, then choose Custom from the pop-up menu.
Enter a new label for the field.
The new custom label appears on this contact's card only.
If you want to change a specific label on all cards in your Address Book, edit the card template. Choose Address Book > Preferences and click Template. The Template pane also allows you to add other types of fields on contact cards, such as a nickname, job title, birthday, anniversary, and URL. Use the Add Field menu.

  • Address Book Won't Launch in Leopard

Suddenly, Address Book won't launch in Leopard. It worked after initial installation but now won't open. I have tried re-syncing with .Mac, re-starting. Address Book info (e-mail addresses) is still accurate and available in Mail.
