Address books doesnt work

I am running a G4 with two HD, each having osx 10.4 and 10.4.11 on the secondary drive. the HD running the newest version is no longer boatable but still has all my original software and files on it. the primary drive has all the standard osx programs too. So on each drive I have address book, neither of which will open. I would prefer the info on the secondary drive since It is the original. Do I have to delete one to get the other to work. Also I tried to update the newer one to 10.4.11 but it gave an error.

My input is basic, But maybe try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Cheers! DALE

  • I book doesnt work with power cord only

Hello. I was just using my ibook g4 and shut it down. When i tried to turn it back on it worked for about 5 minutes then it shut off. I tried taking out the battery and holding down the power button for 5 seconds among other things. I gave up and borrowed a friends battery, he has the same model as me and that battery doesnt work either. I tried just using the power cord only and that doesnt work either. Do i need to take it in to a professional? I've tried just about everything.

Hey Caesar and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
    So your header reads:
"i book doesnt work with power cord only "
Is that right? Will it run only on the battery?
If so this is from the manual:
"The computer runs with battery, but not with the power adapter plugged into
    wall outlet
    1. Try known-good power outlet.
    2. Try known-good power adapter and power cord.
    Note:
Verify that power adapter connector glows amber or green. If the power
adapter light is green, turn over the computer and press the battery button. The
battery lights should glow green and stay on if the power adapter is operating
    correctly.
    3. Reset the power manager by pressing the key combination Control-Option-Shiftpower.
Warning: Make sure you do not hold down the "fn" key when resetting the
    power manager.
Warning: Resetting the power manager means you will also need to reset the
date and time (using the Date & Time control panel).
    4. Replace DC board.
    5. Replace logic board."
and it would help to know exactly which iBook you have but this is pretty generic.

    hi there
i'm on a mac pro, quad core with leopard 10.5.2.

since then it has been frustrating that i have not been able to get it working?
here is a picture of what i see:
    http://www.danmckie.co.uk/images/Addressbook_notworking.jpg
to me it looks like some sort of graphics's problem? i may be wrong.
I hope you can help so i can start using my address book again ASAP
thanks for your time and hope to hear from someone with a solution soon!
    Boom!

Are those "Record Labels" your entries?
Is the problem the grey area on the right?
I had a similar issue with AB and iCal after a an upgrade and a restore from the backup. Somehow my app from a previous version got restored and looked dodgy.
Had to reinstall the OS and restore the databases only.
I think it is possible to pick the apps only from your OS install DVD.
Apart from that I've seen similar "crazy" things which were related to Java. Try to d'load and install Java...

  • Mail and Address Book not working

    Mac g5 2x2Ghz
    OS X 10.5.8
    Mail 3.6
    Address Book 4.1
Stopped working two applications: Mail, and Address Book
    Address Book does not start.
Mail sounded but nothing it can do, do not send mail is not downloading can not be changed - is dead.
Because Address Book is not working I can not synchronize their iPhones.
    Please help.

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to open AB.
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.

  • Add to Address Book not working in mail.app

On all my computers : MacBook Air and Mac Mini, the Add to Address Book (command + Shift + Y) is not working in Mail.app.
It doesn't add the email and name in the Address Book (now called Contact).
Is this a broken link ?

    Hey Saint-Georges -
I've got the same issue in the console.  I didn't notice the keyboard shortcut not working but that's happening to me as well.
I've gone gone through and repaired the disk and disk permissions.  Still no luck.
    Hopefully someone has a fix.

  • How Do I Make Import Address Book Archive Work Properly?

I have several address books archived. I have one for Christmas cards, I have another for my neighborhood watch program and others that I use at various times. Some of the archives were made using Tiger and some I have created in Leopard. When I Export an Address Book Archive it does so without a problem. When I Import one of my Address Book Archives, to replace whatever address book is currently located in Address Book, the import does not work. Once I try to import, I must quit Address Book then reopen it and I still have the Address Book resident that I was trying to replace. The only way I have found to replace the resident address book is to first archive the current book for the sake of having it backed up, then delete all the names in the book by selecting all then deleting by hitting the delete key or by selecting Delete Cards using the Menu. After the names are deleted, then Importing an archive works fine.
Is anyone else having this problem or possibly have a solution to making Address Book work properly without having to delete all the current names before Importing an archive?
Information: I have deleted the Address Book Folder located within the Home/Library/Application Support folders and rebuilt it under Leopard OS and then pasted the names that were resident before deleting the folders. So far, I still cannot get the Import Address Book Archive function to work properly. Thanks in advance for any helpful information or hints.

Ok! Hmm... I indeed have tried to import an archive, did get the message, replaced all and had it working fine for me so it should for you I would think.
Have you tried to log in your computer as a different user, launch AB and try to toggle back and forth between archives to see if you experience the same issue? If not, then it is a user specific issue, if yes, then it may be more a case of app/system issue.
If you are able to overwrite in AB under a different user, then I would suggest you log in back to your main user and repair permissions (applications/utilities/disk utility repair permissions.
As for your use of AB and different archives, I am sure no one is bothered by that. We are all users here trying to learn and/or help others. I would only point out that if you cannot find a solution to your problem, you may want to consider working with AB in a different manner than you have in the past and by your description of usage groups and smart groups will more than handle your contacts while avoiding mixing apples and doughnuts - but I am sure you have thought of that already !!
    hope this helps

  • Using 2 computers and Syncing Address book isnt working like I want it to

    I have a Macbook (black) on 10.4.10 and a G5 dual 2.0 on 10.4.9.
I edited the addresses in my Macbook to get ready for my iphone and merged a bunch of addresses and got rid of duplicates and ABook froze on me. I had to force quit and when i reopened, the addreses were gone but then came back after a minute.
I'm not sure what happened but now i have all my names in my address book, but none of the information (emails, phone numbers, etc etc).
All of the missing info is still in my G5 address book, but not in my Macbook ABook.
I cant get them to sync correctly. What steps do I take to get them to sync properly.
PS, I must say that I've always had them in sync seemlessly in the past so my SYNC setting havent changed.
    thanks!
    dallas

Did you tried adding another carriage return?
    typeahead "\r\r"
I tested your original script in a switch and it worked.

  • My address book dosent work at all

When I open address book it wont let me add a new contact. I can't add a new card or new group. I've tried going in and changing some of the settings but nothing I do seems to work. Please any help would be great! Thanks

Try to check in "get info" by cmd+click on the actual address book folder (located in Applications): Are the permissions correct?
It maybe that its set to "read only"
Alternatievely, have you "trashed" the "com.apple.addressbook.plist" and "com.apple.addressbook.adb.plist"?

  • AppleScript for address book stopped working in snow leopard

I had an AppleScript stop working after upgrade to snow leopard. I select an address and it moves it to a group "envelopes" then prints the address in my current document. Later, I make a mail merge document of "envelopes and print out the envelopes for the day. Now it hangs up at the line:

  • How does Address Book sharing work? Apple help not specific enough.

I've set up my home and work Macs, both with .Mac accounts, to share Address Book. But how do you actually do it? I don't see my work contacts on my home Mac, or vice-versa.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I found the answer myself.

  • How does Address Book syncing work?

I have an Iphone 4 o/s5 and a MacBook Air.  Under iCal preferences you can choose how often it syncs to iCloud and pushes (I guess) to my Mac and Iphone.  But the Address book is kind of a mystery to me.  I thought it was working but then I made some changes and it didn't seem to register them.  So does one have to have Safari running in the background (i.e. being 'signed in' to the master iCloud account) all the time?  Just how does it work in order to have changes in both iCal AND any contact info in Address book push to all devices?  (I also have a Win7 machine with the iCloud console but get Itunes errors - haven't figured that out yet!)

    I found the answer myself.

  • Address Book Not Working, Tried to Restore still Not Working

My address book isn't working. You can see what it does by clicking the link to the screenshot below. All menus are grayed out. and when i go into preferences It freeze's then I have to Force Quit. Thankfully I have Back up files of my address book. But even restoring them doesn't fix the problem. I'm thinking the actually Address Book program is messed up. What should I do???

    K Rock XP,
You may want to try the plist replacement one more time. Make sure that you use the restart option.
Replacing individual OS X applications is rarely productive in correcting application problems. Unless there is some reason to suspect that you have adversely affected the installation, for now you will be better off pursuing another course of action. Can you correlate the appearance/lack of function with any other event?
If you create another user account, can you duplicate the behavior of Address Book in that new account?
If Address Book functions in another account it indicates that it is not a system wide problem, and you may benefit from following the troubleshooting procedures listed in Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption, by Dr. Smoke. Once again, let us know what happens.

  • "Sender is not in my address book" not working

    Hi
I don't remember when this first started happening - I know it used to work on my PowerBook. I got my new Mac and set up Mail with a series of simple rules. I have five main accounts (which I have colour coded), and what I want is: if the sender is not in my address book, move to trash and colour the appropriate colour. Simple enough - I have set up five rules; one for each account.
The rules usually work, but not always, and I can't see a common denominator, ie some from people not in my address book don't get trashed, and some from people definitely in my address book get trashed.
    Any ideas?
    tks

    Hi James,
Hard to tell if the problem is in Mail, Address Book, or Spotlight, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
    Any change?

  • Address book not working in mail

I'm using OSX 10.7.4 with Apple mail.  If I try to access addresses in mail nothing happens.  I've tried opening & closing mail but no joy.  I therefore can not get email addresses or my groups to send mail to.  I found this thread & advice 'Quit both mail and address book and delete the file homedirectory/library/application support/address book/AddressBook-v22.abcddb. then start Address Book and then Mail and try.'  However, when I get into application support, address book does not appear and therfore can not delete the file suggested.
    Any ideas please.

This didn't solve the problem in my case. When you type the first letter or two of a Group Name, a drop down list of the selectable Groups appears. However, when I press Enter to populate the To box with the Group names, nothing happens. I have a 2009 iMac running Mavericks 10.9, and my mail server is gmail.
some had to hit the space bar, then the enter key. could try that.
