Address lookup in mail To: field ignores suggestions

Hello,
when a mail is composed and the receiver is looked up in the To: field the normal behaviour of Groupwise is to make a suggestion. The user can confirm the suggestion with the tab or the enter key.
For example one types the letters "Fo" and Groupwise makes the suggestion "Foo, Bar" (with "o, Bar" marked) and the user hits the enter key, Groupwise accepts "Foo, Bar" as the receiver.
However, I have one user in which the suggestion is completely ignored. Example: When the user types "Fo" Groupwise suggests "Foo, Bar" as usual. But when the user hits enter or tab Groupwise ignores it's own suggestion and presents a listbox with all names containihng "Fo", e. g. "Foa, abc", "Fob, Def" and even "Othername, Foo123". So the problem is, that the user can no longer confirm Groupwise suggestions with the tab or enter key.
What might have gone wrong here? The user suspects that he accidentally changed the behaviour by hitting some strange keystroke combination.
Note: Name Completition is not disabled
System is Groupwise 8 client with Windows 7 professional 64bit

Henry

  • Mail rule autoreply ignores 'reply-to' address

    Hi all
I've just discovered that when setting a Mail Rule with the action 'reply to message', the generated reply always goes to the original sender, completely ignoring the 'reply-to' address.
This is causing me problems - when Paypal emails me saying I've received money for my business, I have an autoreply set up to send the purchaser a download link - but that goes to a generic '[email protected]' address not the purchaser's address (which Paypal put in the 'reply to' field.).
Any ideas on a way round this?
    Thanks - Jon

Here is a screen shot of the Mail Rule:
Here is a screen shot of how I receive emails from Paypal:
As we had both explaied, the incoming notifications from Paypal now use a generic********* for the return address, and insert the actual customer email address in the reply to field.  Our question is how can we force Apple Mail to use the reply to field as the email address used in auto replies.

  • Where are the address stored from the Mail To field

In the Mail app you have in the To field recently used addresses. The most of these addresses are not stored in my Addressbook. Can anyone tell my where the recently used addresses are stored?

I had the same question and appreciated your answer.
I recently had to reload one of my computers from scratch due to a dead disk. I wanted to duplicate my address and mail from one computer onto the other. I transfered the file you mentioned along with the rest of the address book files, mail files and mail cache. Interestingly, the address book files and recent recipients data ends in 2007. No address that were sent to or address that were added after 2007 [the year] appear. In fact, the file you noted says it was last opened in 12/07
    Any ideas?

A few months ago, my power mac G5 began starting up with the address book and mail already open on the desk top.
Neither of these is in my startup items, so I am at a loss as to stop this behavior.
    Any suggestions?

Are they in Login items under System Preferences/Users/Login Items?
In the Dock, right click the Address Book and Mail icons, select Options, and make sure "Open at Login" is not selected.

  • I have an issue with the address browser in mail in Yosemite

I am using IOS 10.10.1 now on an iMac and have discovered an issue with the address browser in mail.
Previously in my pending to send email toolbar there was a contacts icon which I clicked  on to display my contacts list. I could hold down the Command button and select as many contacts I wanted (often up to 100), then select the field to send (to, ccc, bcc) and the contact would appear.
Now, I have to click the + sign at the end of the field line, and select recipients one at a time. Not only that, but I have to click twice to get to the email address, once on the name and then the email address drops down under the name and then I click on the email address. When I do that the drop down box disappears and the recipient's email address goes to the field. I have tried all combinations of buttons to be able to choose multiple addresses but haven't found the right one yet.
An Apple Support guy told me to open my regular Address book, and hold down the command button to choose multiple recipients then drag them to the field on my already opened send email.
This is one way around the issue (which wasn't an issue in Mavericks) but where some recipients have two or more email addresses listed in my contacts it means I have to manually go through the finished list on my emails to make sure the most desired one was selected. What a pain.
Also, previously, where I was sending out many emails and wanted to stop say half way down my list, and send, I could come back to that list for the next email and see where I'd got up to.
I don't want to make groups because my recipients vary depending on what I am sending so my lists change constantly.
    Any suggestions?
Last point...who archives? On my regular email page I now have the Archive icon to the left of my Delete icon which I would prefer was to the left, first in the line as this is the icon I use mostly. With Folders, my Sent and Trash lists, who needs to archive?

I can help you only with the placement of the icon placement -- if you right-mouse click on the toolbar, then select Customize Toolbar, you can move an icon to where you want it to be.

  • Can someone please help me figure out how to "clear" recent email addresses used in Mail?

Can someone please help me figure out how to “clear” recent email addresses used in Mail?  For example, as I begin typing a name/email address in the “To:” field, Mail begins suggesting addresses that I’ve previously used.  I don’t want any suggestions unless they are in my contacts.
Another example:  When using MS Outlook, it will also remember and suggest email accounts previously used, but I can arrow down and delete an account from the list so it won’t automatically popup or suggest in the future.
I appreciate any guidance in this matter.

The iOS email app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which cannot be turned off. The email address autofill feature when addressing an email pulls from contacts and from the list of previous recipients which can't be prevented. There is no option to clear the list of previous recipients - not at the present time anyway.
If you don't want any suggestions, select from contacts instead when addressing an email.

Which argument I miss ? or how I configure UM for export the email address from the AddrLookup Window to the Message_compose Window in the destination fields (bcc or cc or to) ?
    Thanks alot for any help.

It is happening to us as well, we have OCS release 2 9.0.4.2 on Linux trying to access an external OpenLDAP linux server for shared contacts.
After we get the results of the search on the external LDAP, no button works on the Address Lookup window except "Close". It doesn't matter is we select the "Corporate Book" or other Oracle internal address books; we have to close the window and open it again to do a new search.
Are you seeing the same behavior?
I will have a phone conference today (5/11/05) with Oracle support to talk about this issue, we have had a TAR open for about 20 days now.
I'll keep you posted with the results.

  • 'Incoming Mail Server' field is greyed (cannot be filled)

Using a Mac Mini, OS 10.8.5.
I started with the System Preferences / iCloud pane by putting a selection for "Mail". The dialog then directed me to use the Mail app's setup to create the iCloud email account. I opened Mail, clicked the + sign, and accepted all the default settings after entering my email address. (It auto-fills most options based on the "@icloud.com" address.) On closing the preferences window, the "Save" option appears, and I chose that. It seemed to start configuring, and then popped up the dreaded "The Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty" message.
I have read half a dozen other discussions about this. The solutions that work or that were suggested include making changes to iOS devices (I have none), deleting previous Apple service email accounts, such as .me or .mac (I have none), and removing the selection for "Mail" in System Preferences > iCloud (I've tried it both off and on, no-go).
Are there actually six different possible solution for this? If so, I'm looking for solution #7.

On a Mac, the server fields are automatically configured, which is why they are grayed out.  If your iCloud mail isn't working, go to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.  If that doesn't fix things, go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, restart your Mac then sign back in.  (This deletes the iCloud account and data from your Mac, but not from iCloud.  Your data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in, after a brief delay as it redownloads.)

  • Has anyone got a script to read a list of email addresses from a Mail message and put them into a group in Contacts?

Has anyone got a script to read a list of email addresses from a Mail message header and put them into a group in Contacts?

Now Tony, I know you can't hear my tone on a forum post but I was not complaining, simply stating facts . This change brought several people in my office to a grinding halt in a long established workflow that is really rather simple (and I thought was already assumed from the original post above ):
    1) Select a set of records in FileMaker Pro 12 and export only their e-mail addresses as a CSV file.
    2) Open that CSV file in Excel.
    3) Copy the column of e-mail address.
    4) paste into the appropriate recipient field in Mail.
    5) Send
If I were to complain it would be about Apple's typically opaque approach to updates. There is no granular explanation of why changes were made or even "what" changes were made.
Complaining is futile since Apple is Apple and is unlikely to change, but sometimes it is cathartic to "shout into the void" .
I had thought about doing something with a formula in Excel and your suggestion was simple and helpful. Again, however, it is only a workaround for a long established helpful behavior that Apple has inexplicably broken/removed in Mavericks Mail.
I, and the other posters here, would love to have the capability back rather than have to add previously unneeded steps to our workflows.
Ultimately we may add scripting steps to the FileMaker side to export the address lists with commas inserted already if Apple ends up having permanently removed this feature.

  • Address book and Mail help needed

Greetings. I recently switched from Entourage to Mail. I'm having some troubles with Address Book and Mail. I hope that someone can help.
    1. I can't seem to find an easy way to determine if an email address is already in the Address Book. In Entourage, if the email address is not in the address book, it gives me the option to add it with a link at the top of the mail window. How can I tell if an email address from an incoming mail is in the Address Book or not?
    2. In Mail, when I right-click on a mail address that I am sure is in the Address Book, it often gives me the option to "Add to Address Book". Other times, it will give me the option to "Open in Address Book". There doesn't seem to be a pattern. Is there something that I can do to fix this inconsistency?
    3. In Entourage, when adding a new email address to the address book, I can just click on the button in the mail window to do that, which automatically opens the new address, and then I can edit information and add a category. In Mail, the same functionality requires several separate steps (Add to Address Book, open Address Book, find new email address, click on edit to make changes, drag to Group). Is there some way to streamline the process in Mail?
    Thanks much.

I have the same problem as #2.
I have a contact who sends me email from two addresses. However, in mail, the two address return different sender names - one is his initial "j" and the other is his full name.
This makes it annoying to sort threads by the "from" field, or search for that sender.
I added both to the address book, opened address book, and selected "merge contacts."
They merged. But in mail, they still return different sender names! Merge failed!
After merge, all the "j" emails still offer "add to address book" when i click them. When I do this, it creates a new address card, and if I merge this with the old merged card, then the email goes back to offering "add to address book" instead of updating all those emails with the sender's full name. Basically Mail is ignoring the address book just for that sender!
I tried "add to address book" -> quit mail -> open address book
    There was the entry.
    Then open mail,
There was the email, "open in address book" appeared and so I did.
I edited the name to match the full name.
Go back to mail. Still listed in mailbox as "j" instead of full name.
Now "add to address book" has returned to the choices!
    Seems like a bug!!!

The incoming mail server box has in light grey colour: p02-imap.mail.me.com in it and I cannot edit its content. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hi all,
Mattreichenbach is probably on the right track here with a reset of settings.  I think I've determined the issue has to do with cached account information and inconsistencies for the account name.  This seems to crop up when I've changed my password and it hasn't propagated fully to all the servers, devices, certificates, etc.
Hopefully many here are on their way to restoration of service by now but it's clear that a lot of people are having the same issues.  Very frustrating and definitely something Apple needs to resolve:  incoming mail server field grayed out, incorrect autopopulation of different fields, other unanticipated behaviors.  If you're still having issues, though, here's what worked for me...
First, head to the iCloud preferences pane in System Configuration and choose "Sign Out".  When I did this it prompted me with a number of "are you sure" type questions about retaining information on my local machine.  I chose to delete/remove the info each time simply because it should all be restored by the cloud and I didn't want to risk a massive duplication of my data... I will say, I'm back up and running with no issues so I suspect you can make the same delete/remove choices...  But use your own judgment.  I don't want you to lose any data (ie.. please use care as you do this because I cannot bear the thought of causing anyone to experience the pain of data loss).
Once you've signed out of iCloud, restart your system.  When you get back in, head to the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your System Preferences and add your account back by choosing the brushed aluminum "iCloud" button.  When it asks for your account name, use your @iCloud.com email address.  I am all but certain my issue had started because one of my devices (iPhone or whatever) had been set up with an email alias specified instead of my @iCloud.com address.
Apple, if you're reading through any of these issues (there are TONS of users having this same problem).  Take note, that your icloud service somewhat frequently is not responding and yet tells the user that the password is wrong and this prompts people to be changing their passwords unnecessarily.  This has happened to me on numerous occasions.  Also, I noticed that last week's outage corresponded to a VERY similar outage exactly one year ago to the day.  Sounds like planned maintenance to me and I think you could do a better job notifying folks so we're not wasting HUGE amounts of time troubleshooting a problem that we have no hope of fixing.
Hope that helps some of you!

  • How can I remove old deleted email addresses from my 'To' choices field

When I input an email address in my email 'TO' box old deleted email addresses still appear as choices. Is there any way of deleting these old addresses permanently? Very annoying!

There is no way to delete the remembered email addresses in the mail app. Removing them from your Contacts has no bearing on how this affects the mail app. The only real way to delete those remembered addresses is to restore the iPad to factory settings. That is a pretty harsh workaround just to have the mail app forget some email addresses.
If you ignore those addresses, eventually they will go away, but it can take some time before that happens. There is nothing short of restoring to factory settings that you can do now to remove them.

  • Address Book and Mail - Using Groups for e-mail

I've noticed something strange about Mail and Address Book in Tiger:
I created a new Group in Address Book. The Group contains people who are involved in a project. I have names, home addresses and phone numbers for eveyone, but a few people do not have e-mail. When a try using this Group to send out an e-mail message, Mail warns me that John Smith does not appear to have a valid e-mail address. I can't send the message unless I select only those in the group who have e-mail addresses and only send to them. This is a pain.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug in Tiger's Address Book and Mail.app? How can I get around this? I have several Groups like this that contain entries with no e-mail.

It's not a bug in Address Book, it's a limitation. Your only way to get around that is to either remove those from the group, or give them all the same email address; i.e., send those to you so you are reminded that they didn't get the email and you have to notify them some other way.
And of course, when sending to more than one person, never put the recipients in the To or CC field; they should always go in the BCC field.

  • Unable to add contacts to address book from Mail

When I mouse over a phone number (or address) in an email message in Mail, an arrow appears that lets me add a new contact with that phone number directly to address book from mail. Unfortunately, when I fill in the information and click "add to address book," the little window disappears but the contact does not appear in my address book.
Any suggestions for fixing this? Thanks!

Thank you so much V.K. Your solution worked for me too.
BTW, I actually had two similar files in the app support:
    AddressBook-v22.abcddb AND AddressBook-v22~.abcddb
I deleted both, but only the first one gave me the cannot empty trash message.

  • Can't drag and drop from Address Book to Mail?

    Hi,
I have always used Address Book to store my email contact information in SL. When I wanted to send an email, I would drag and drop from Address Book to the "To:" field in Mail and it would add the contact information to Mail. I upgraded to Lion, and now when I try this, the address icon moves like it should, the little green circle with the + in it appears when I hover over the field, but when I release it does not add the address to Mail. The drag and drop does not work at all, but it looks like it should. I have searched all around but have not found any information about this. Does anyone know what's up with this? How can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Are you dragging from the actual AddressBook application, or the Address icon you can add to the NewMail and Reply toolbars in Mail?  (It ought to be there by default, but isn't).
Either should work, but if AB doesn't, try the icon method:
