Addressbook sorts coporate on first name

Hi,
In UWC, coporate members found through the addressbook search are not sorted by their Lastname, but by their Firstname.
This is quite annoying when you have a long list and you try to find somebody you most probably only know by Lastname.
Test:
use UWC, use Addressbook tab, search the coporate addressbook with a string that return more than one entry (like *).
Can I change the sort order or is this a bug?
Thanks

Right...no I did not (I have many JES docs to read and only one life).
I figured to change logos and colors by fiddling around. I thought the custom. guide was about this. I never suspected one could change the code of uwc which I suspected would be into compiled jsp somewhere. If I can: great !
I will look for it in the doc. Thanks Jay.

  • Sort Contacts by [First Name, Last Name] on Phone

I currently have all of my contacts in Outlook saved and "Filed As" First Name, Last Name. When I go to sync with the phone (through iTunes), the phone still shows all my contacts sorted as Last Name, First Name. I have tried deleting my contacts completely several times to no avail. I am so used to searching by first name first. Can someone please help?
BTW, I did try searching the forum first. Most threads discuss the use of Address Book, which seems to provide a solution. I have not found any solutions to this problem using Outlook though.
    Thanks,
    Brian

On the iPhone, go into settings/Mail Contacts Calendar and choose sort order under "contacts" as "first, last".

  • First name last name sort order-how to correct on iphone

    hello all.
i have mobile me (hate that name) set correctly with the sort order of first name first in my extensive contacts list and the same in my address book on my main mac, yet my new iphone stubbornly refuses to order the contacts correctly, instead listing names by second name. as a result i am finding it almost impossible to use effectively as i know very few people by their last names.
    help!
    thanks

I go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar. Then scroll down to bottom choices of Contacts. Set both Sort order and Display to Last, First. It worked for me.

  • HT2490 how do i have my contacts display alphabetically by first name not last name

How can I have my contact list sorted alphabeticially by first name (like on my iphone) and not by last name.
    Thanks!

On your menu bar with AddressBook open choose AddressBook menu item > General tab > "Sort by" should be an option?"

  • Pages sorts merged documents by FIRST name?

I drop a bunch of names & addresses from Address Book onto a Pages merge document. The address data is sorted by last name.
Pages creates a new merge document, but now everything is sorted by FIRST name. Kinda makes mailouts a bit a of pain when other documents are sorted by LAST name.
Hopefully I am missing a simple control somewhere?

If I remember well, this question was asked and responded some days ago.
We have no interaction with the way Pages grabs the datas from the AddressBook.
If you want to apply your own sort,
    (1) import your addressBook addresses in Numbers
    (2) sort the Numbers table
    (3) merge from Numbers.

  • Birthday calendar on iCloud sort by last name first name like my contacts

birthday calendar on iCloud sort by last name first name like my contacts

Curiously, the most recently inputted entries do sort properly, as do all company entries.
Does that mean "most recently inputted" AFTER you upgraded to Snow Leopard?
If that is true, it would mean that something about your existing records before the upgrade, for the records that are people contacts (with first and last names) instead of business contacts, do not agree with Snow Leopard and/or Snow Leopard's version of Address Book.
This may not be feasible, but if you exported the records with this problems and then imported them, maybe they will be re-inputted so that are properly sorted.
If you use Time Machine, maybe you can use the +flying through space+ interface to restore one of the records with this problem to see if the restore process makes the record sort properly.

Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

  • How do I sort my address book by the last name, not the first name

AS I created my address book the names were added randomly to the address book. When I print out the address book the names come up with first name, Last name (all in random order alphabetically). I would like them to come up with Last name, first name, email address in alphabetic order by the Last Name. How do I get them sorted corretly??

Enable the menu in the Address Book. Then look at the options under View and Sort By.

I have my contacts stored in Outlook (sorted by last name).  When I sync to my Iphone, the contacts are sorted by first name.  I have checked the Settings and show and file are checked as Last, First.  What can I do to change this sort?

On the phone, go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars select the account you want and scroll down to the settings for Contacts.  You can change display and sort order there.

  • Sort Address Book search dialog box by last name, first name

When I am entering an email, and I click on the To: field to bring up the Address Book dialog box, by default the names are ordered according to the

Is there any way to have this column display the names in Last Name, First Name format?

Is there any way to have this column display the names in Last Name, First Name format?
The only way would be to change the display order of the AB to use <FileAs> which in turn requires that the default order for the <FileAs> field is configured to be <Last, First>.
Way to change the AB display order is by going into Account Settings (you don't mention which version of Outlook is in use) or with Outlook closed, use the Control Panel <Mail> app to open the profile
    - click on the <AddressBooks> tab
    - highlight Outlook AddressBook
    - click <Change> and select the appropriate <Show Names> option
Note: if your current default FileAs setting is not configured to be <Last, First> - you will need to <bulk> change all existing contact items since any change to the FileAs default setting only applies to newly created contacts.

  • I have transferred my iTunes library from windows 7 pc to new windows 8 pc. Music was in alphabetical order by surname but new pc has some by surname some by first name and some not in alphabetical order. How can I get sorted?

Question  Hi - I've transferred my iTunes library from windows 7 pc to one with windows 8. My library was in alphabetical order by surname but after transfer is now some by surname, some by first name, and some not in alphabetical order. How do I sort this out and also make sure that new downloads list by surname alphabetically?

Sorting in iTunes is often controlled by selecting different column headings. The sort order for any given column may be further modified by a sort value, e.g. Sort Artist affects the sort order of Artist. If you transferred the library properly all of the metadata should have remained intract and you simply need to select the a column that sorts as you want. If you had to import the library then there is the potential for tagging effects that could mean metadata entered previously didn't import with the media. Note that iTunes has no mechanism for automatically deciding which values are in <Forename> <Surname> order and could therefore be sorted as <Surname> <Forename>. The only automatic process drops leading articles (a/an/the) so that "The Doors" sort under D as "Doors".

  • Address book names are now sorted by first name.

After installing Snow Leopard my mail it is now sorted alphabetically by the first name, not the last. How do I change it back?

I just talked to an Apple Product Specialist about the change in Address Book searching with Snow Leopard. Here is where it stands right now:
In all previous versions of Address Book, the user could simply type 'T' to instantly go to contacts with last names that start with 'T' (and businesses that start with 'T').
In Snow Leopard, Address Book can no longer search with one letter the way it did before; it uses a 'Spotlight' type of search where the user must type the full name in order to get an exact match. This type of searching is useful for finding documents on the Mac or searching the Internet, but is totally inefficient for finding contacts in Address Book.
It sounds like someone at Apple decided this was a better way to search for contacts, because this change in search method is described in the new Address Book 'Help' file; it says, "As you type, Address Book begins to search all the information on the cards, including notes, and displays matching contacts, with the matching text highlighted in each card." For example, let's say someone used to type 'T' to search for a contact named Bill Tilman. Now what happens is that Address Book stops at the first person who's first name starts with 'T', and highlights all the T's in the person's card (the T in 'telephone', the T in 'Street', etc. The user must now scroll through all their contacts manually to find Bill Tilman, or else manually type out the complete name 'Bill Tilman'. (If they just type 'Bill', they will only get the first person named Bill.)
I hope Apple will reconsider and will allow Address Book to do the quick one-letter searches by last name (as opposed to 'Sort' by last name, which it still has) like it used to. (Or at least make this a choice in Address Book Preferences.) This would also be more compatible with the way iPhone searches for contacts; when you select a letter in the iPhone's contacts, it finds contacts who's last name starts with that letter, as well as businesses, just like Address Book always used to.

  • IOS changes contact from sorted by company to first name when edit is hit

Can anyone tell me how to stop iOS from changing to sort by name when edit is hit?
Scenario:  Contact has first name, last name and company.  In OSX I hit edit and check the company box.  The contact now sorts by company name.  I then go into iOS to that same contact and hit edit and then done.  The contact now sorts by name and there is no way to undo this that I can find in iOS.  There is no company check box and iOS defaults to sort by name automatically.  Which means that any information I edit on my iphone or ipad will get miscatagorized by simply tapping the edit key.
    Help!!!

I would ask, why are you going into the same contact in iOS if you have already edited it in OS X? But then, I digress.
True, there is only two settings for sorting contacts in iOS, Last Name or First name. The same as display. When you have a name and Company, it will only sort by name.
You can provide feedback to Apple if you would like to see this feature change by going to www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.
