Addressbook sync at private LAN - do I need APNS?

Hello!
I am running a Lion server with a puplic ip address and use APNS with calendar and addressbook, sync between three macs, one iPhone an one iPad without a problem.
Now I've configured a Lion server at customer site - this server is for use as central adressbook and calndar server at internal private LAN only. About four Macs connet to this server. Every client using the same account for addresses and calendar.
Today my customer told me that the addresses do not sync with the Mac clients. iCal works without any problems, but addresses do not work.
I few weeks ago I did some testing with a Lion server in a private network and had the same effect, but I did not dig deeper into this problem.
And here is my question:
Because our own Lion server works without any problem but uses APNS - do I have to use APNS for a server in a private LAN with the clients at the same LAN, too?
Someone running the same configuration with addressbook syncing working?
Bye,
eweri

  • SA520W Bridging between to private Lans

I am looking for some help connecting to separate private lans:
    A) 192.168.1.x
    B) 192.168.0.x
    A is behind a Watchguard XTM25 11.5.3
    B is behind a CISCO SA520W
Both have static public facing IP's.
B only has a IP based PBX system attached to it over a SIP ALG. (originally it was hooked up to the watchguard but they didn't play nice, but works great with the Cisco. Problem is the Cisco don't have all the features of the Watchguard)
A has all my users workstations attached. The issue is that computers on A need to talk to server on B for a desktop application to work. Since they are on separate subnets, it isn't working. The app itself still doesn't work by port forward/sNats, etc.
A & B are right next to each other, so cabling between them is not an issue.
Currently, I have a cable between the watchguard and the Cisco. The watchguard end is configured with a static private ip on the subnet A (the cisco side), and plugged into the lan on the cisco side.  I have a policies to let all traffic flow freeley, and from the logs on the Watchguard, all A subnet traffic is correctly going to the Cisco via said cable.
But, nothing is coming back from the Cisco. So my question is, how can I get the Cisco to play nice with the other subnet and send traffic back to the B subnet?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I added a static route on the Cisco to pass all of the 192.168.0.x traffic to the static ip of the watchguard (192.168.1.1), and bam! problem solved!

Is this an iLife installation disk or system install disk?  In either case download the demo version of   Pacifist and open the install package on the disk.  Locate iPhoto and use Pacifist to install iPhoto.  Then you'll need to apply the latest updater from the Apple Downloads webpage:
Apple - Support - Downloads.  Just search for the iPhoto version you installed to get the updaters for that version.

  • Why can't I continue to sync my private info (contacts, calendars, reminders) from my computer to my phone?

I am insanely frustrated. I have had iPhone since its inception. The most basic and fundamental feature syncing a computer and iPhone is the ability to transfer information between the two.  I do not want my most private information, such as everyone I know and everywhere I go and everything I do, to be uploaded to Apple server.  I believe the right to privacy is very real and needs to be protected.  Why has Apple removed the ability to sync your private info and keep it on your own personal devices.  I have been able to do this for six years!

  • Addressbook sync error message in console

    Hello all,
I've seen a couple of (non-answered) threads about addressbook sync issues here, but my question is, I guess, easier to answer.
The following message keeps coming up in my console:
AddressBookSync[91]: AddressBookSync (client id: com.apple.AddressBook) error: Exception running AddressBookSync: * -[NSPlaceholderString initWithUTF8String:]: NULL cString
    com.apple.launchd[63] ([0x0-0xb00b].com.apple.AddressBook.sync[91]): Exited with exit code: 2
I don't even really want to know what the problem is.
But, does anybody know how I can just alltogether stop these syncing processes?
I stopped syncing in: Apples' mobileme preference pane, iSync & Addressbook. I'm not using a mobileme account on that computer (Mail or elsewhere).
So why is this process running?
    Thanks for reading me.
    Cheers,
    TimeLawD.

    Hello timelawd
I stopped syncing in: Apples' mobileme preference pane, iSync & Addressbook. I'm not using a mobileme account on that computer (Mail or elsewhere).
So why is this process running?
This Address Book Sync Error drove me nuts. I use MobileMe but I didn't tell it sync any thing nor do I Sync iDisk. I even turned off Back to My Mac. But every hour that error would hit the log. Great.
So I looked at MobileMe Preferences again and noticed that I had 'Registered this Computer' using the 'Advanced...' button under 'Sync'. Hmm, maybe that's it. Yep. I un-registered my Mac and the error when bye-bye.
See if you have your Mac registered there.
    Good Luck.

Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6, is not iCloud compatible.  You need to upgrade to Lion, Mac OS X 10.7, via a download from the app store...$29 (US), provided you had at least 10.6.6.  You can upgrade to 10.6.8 for free as part of the software updated function, then go to the app store and purchase the Lion download.
When you do that, before installing Lion, make a copy of the Lion Installer from the Applications folder where it downloads to some other location, such as your Documents folder, so you have a backup copy.
For Lion you must have at least an Intel Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7, or Xenon processor, 2 GB memory though 4 GB is better and 7 GB free space on the hard drive.
As part of 10.7.2 you end up with the iCloud connection.

With the phone connected, go to the info tab for the phone in iTunes. That's where you specify what contacts, calendars, e-mail accounts, etc. to sync and to what applications.

i dont know how to sync music to my ipod. i need help

You can sync music to the iPod by connecting it your computer, selecting the iPod on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and then using the Music tab on the right-hand side of iTunes to select which of your iTunes music library to sync to it. There are some instructions on syncin music on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1351
You can also download a copy of the iPod manual from here : http://support.apple.com/manuals/ipod/#ipodtouch

Tried to do upgrade and lost everything but contacts. Phone wont sync with computer. Do I need to register it as a new iphone?

You should copy everything from your old computer to your new one, then sync.
The iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will indeed erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.

  • AddressBook sync with Exchange

I'm trying to sync my AddressBook with my company's exchange server.
I setup in the AddressBook preferences, then I run iSync, show the status in the menubar and run sync now.
I can see from my network traffic that a good deal of data is going back and forth for a solid couple of minutes (it's a large addressbook), however when the traffic dies down, no addresses in my address book.
    Any ideas to help?

Has anyone ever sync'd their AddressBook with an Exchange Server? Does the sync not support SSL connections? I can't find any info outside the standard instuctions.
A coworker worked around this by syncing his PDA to Exchange, then syncing the addressbook to the PDA, but that is just plain silly.
Entourage is garbage until a universal binary comes out (would also be nice if it would take self-signed certs without warning), and I really need my company's addresses in AddressBook so I can use Mail.app for email.
Please help, I hate being mocked by the Windoze users.

  • Trying to reverse Dropbox AddressBook syncing, can you help?

I need some help here. Only Mac experts that know how to use the terminal need apply.
So, before iCloud, I set up my dropbox to store my Address Book data so that all my Macs' Address Book could access the same contact data files. Now with iCloud, this is no longer necessary. These are the steps I followed to achieve this:
    Step 1
Download and install the Dropbox app, and back up your Mac's Address Book (go to File > Export > Address Book archive). To begin, open your Mac's Terminal utility. Enter this command:
    mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/AddressBook ~/Dropbox/
to move your Address Book data to Dropbox.
Note: The backwards slash after the word "Application" is the way spaces in folder and file names must be represented in the Terminal app. By putting a backslash before each space, Terminal knows you're really looking for the folder named "Application Support."
    Step 2
    On a new line, type
    ln -s ~/Dropbox/AddressBook/ ~/Library/Application\ Support/AddressBook
to redirect your Mac to Dropbox whenever it tries to access Address Book data.
    Step 3
On your second Mac, go into your User Library and delete the Address Book file (it's in the same place it was on your first Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook).
Then, open Terminal and re-enter the code from step 2. The two Macs should be linked!
So now, I have all my contacts on my iPhone (which is good) and I have erased the Address Book folder in my dropbox. I have also gone back and recreated the Address Book folder in it's original location (HD-Library-Application Support-AddressBook). iCloud is setup to sync contacts on the iPhone and on the Mac, but the address book is empty and so is the Address Book folder.
How do I reverse what was done in Step 2 so that the Mac looks for AddressBook data in the original location? Any ideas?
*Also, when I open Address Book it won't let me make a new contact card, and after trying to do this, the Address Book option in the iCloud settings in System Preferences uncheckes itself.
*For the sake of troubleshooting, I recreated an AddressBook folder in my dropbox and tried to reverse Step 2 by typing this in the Terminal:
    ln -s ~/Library/Application\ Support/AddressBook/ ~/Dropbox/AddressBook
    But I get this response:
    ln: /Users/x/Dropbox/AddressBook/: File exists

The page that you posted from has instructions for how to reset them i.e. if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 half-way down that page should give you a reset link on your account.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use
