Addresses from PC Outlook and from Thunderbird to iMac Address Book

Perhaps this has been answered but I am unable to find it. I just switched from a PC using two mail software programs...Outlook 2000 and Thunderbird. How can I get all my addresses into my iMac?

Hi AJ - the problem is that there seems to be only two options to export the Mac Address Book - those being Export vCard or Export Address Book Archive. I saw that one subscriber in "Discussions" saying that he highlighted all the addresses then exported them as VCards. That certainly didn't work when I tried importing them into Thunderbird. Say what you like about PC vs MACs but whilst the gap isn't too great these days, the Mac still walks over any competitor when it comes to ease of use. I'm also puzzled when I read about Synching the Mac, the iPhone with the PC in the office. I've not got my head around this yet as we're not talking of synching like for like. If I can't transfer the address book from my Mac to the PC with either Thunderbird or Outlook, I don't see how Mac/Me and the Cloud is going to do it either! Thanks to all. Barry

  • Outlook and CSV files on a mac book

I have a Mc Book Pro REtina and use MS outlook 2011 version 14.3.9 as my contact data base. I need to export my contacts to a csv file so i can upload them to google so i can sync with my iphone 5

Why do you want to delete them? They are installed for a reason. Do not ever delete, move, or rename any operating system files. Doing so could render your system non-functional.
As for deleting files simply drag them to the Trash or right-click or CTRL-click with the mouse on a file or selection of files to bring up the contextual menu. Select the "Move to Trash" option from the contextual menu.

  • Nokia PC Suite support for Outlook and Thunderbird

    Hi,
I am currently using the Microsoft Outlook 2007 combined with Nokia PC Suite to synchronize the contents of the Outlook with my Nokia N73 smartphone. I am now considering to switch e-mail client from Microsoft Outlook to the Mozilla Thunderbird. So my question is then, is Nokia PC Suite compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird?
I have in fact already installed Thunderbird, but it is not available as an option anywhere in the settings for Nokia PC Suite. All I can find in the Nokia PC Suite settings is a tab called "Microsoft Outlook" where I can choose the different Outlook profiles or change settings. In my humble opinion there should be a new tab added called "Thunderbird" or similar right next to the "Microsoft Outlook" tab in the settings for Nokia PC Suite after installing another e-mail client such as the Mozilla Thunderbird.
I know that there is this option to choose what e-mail client to use upon installing Nokia PC Suite, where I have chosen Outlook. Does this mean that I have to reinstall Nokia PC Suite to get this choice to choose e-mail client to use? If I do reinstall Nokia PC Suite, will I even get to this option at all? Since I am only reinstalling Nokia PC Suite and it is already configured once to be used with Outlook, I'm thinking that maybe this option will not even appear upon reinstalling Nokia PC Suite.
I don't have a clear memory of it but I think I once reinstalled Nokia PC Suite for some reason and I was not presented with this option to choose e-mail client as the first time I installed it. So this may require complete uninstallation and deletion of files and Windows registry for Nokia PC Suite, and then a fresh installation of it to get to this window where to choose e-mail client.
Even when and if I get to that window, it's no guarantee that I will be able to choose Thunderbird even thou it's installed. Why? Because I know from experience that commercial and proprietary software like Nokia PC Suite tends to only support the industry standard platforms and systems and applications, or de-facto industry standards like the extensively used Microsoft Outlook and other Microsoft products. I know by experience that such software as Nokia PC Suite love to lick Microsoft's **bleep**. Don't you think?... or don't you know? You disagree? Well lay it on me, tell me what you think!
I would love to be able to synchronize my mobile phone with my computer, even if I may use a Linux or other nix-like operating system. But if Nokia PC Suite doesn't even support e-mail clients other then Microsoft Outlook, such as the Thunderbird, then it's probably too much to ask for a Linux support for Nokia PC Suite. Or is it?... does Nokia PC Suite support Linux?...

    Thanks for your answers!
By this time I have made a clean install of Windows Vista at least three times, and on one occasion I remembered to check this this thesis of mine that I mentioned above. So for the purpose of testing if it's true that the Nokia PC Suite installation process or Nokia PC Sync configuration wizard does not present the user with the option to choose Mozilla Thunderbird as e-mail client, I have done the following.
I have made a completely clean, out of the box installation of Windows Vista on the computer (retail version, non-custom branded Vista version). After installing the needed and important drivers for the system and other software required for the proper operation of the system and few other software, I went on installing Microsoft Office with Outlook 2007 as one of the first software applications. Then I installed Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird. After I had done that, I installed the Nokia PC Suite.
As my thesis predicted, after successfully installing Nokia PC Suite and the Nokia PC Sync configuration wizard was started, I was not presented with the option to choose Mozilla Thunderbird as my e-mail client, even thou both Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird were installed prior to or before Nokia PC Sync. In other words, if this was a limitation of the Nokia PC Suite or it's installer, where it does not recognize e-mail clients that are installed after Nokia PC Suite itself, then installing the e-mail clients in this order should make Nokia PC Suite recognize it. But it did not, or at least as long as the Mozilla Thunderbird is concerned. Thus, this proves my thesis - Nokia PC Suite is currently not compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird. And Mobile Sensei Petrib confirms this also.
Here follows a screenshot of the actual Nokia PC Sync configuration wizard.

I'm afraid we will have to bear with this. I personally don't believe that there will ever be any official release of Nokia PC Suite that will have full support (or any at all) for other e-mail clients then just Microsoft Outlook and Lotus, or that there will be any official Linux or nix-like version of it. Not today, not in next five years, and not in one thousand light-years from today. We can hope, but the odds are pointing in the opposite direction.
So bear with Microsoft Outlook, and the Windows **bleep**. No pay, no play! Unfortunately... fortunate for Microsoft, Nokia, and others alike, but unfortunate for us end users.

  • How can I migrate from Outlook 2011 to iCal and Apple Address Book in Mavericks now that synching is no longer possible?

Now that I am on Mavericks and no longer able to sync between my iPhone/iPad and Outlook 2011 on my MacBook Pro, I'm finally taking the leap (which I should have done long ago) and abandoning Outlook 2011 all together (doesn't help that Outlook now prompts me to rebuild by Identity multiple times per day). I am hoping to export from Outlook to iCal, Address Book, etc, but I would love it if someone could check my steps.
Delete iCal and Apple Address Book content -- Because I have old data in iCal and Address Book (that was synched before I upgraded to Mavericks), I planned to delete this data as follows:
Manually deleting my multiple calendars in the iCal app
Go to Go>Home>Library>Calendars and drag "Calendar Cache" to trash
Go to Go>Home>Library>Caches and drag "com.apple.iCal" and "com.apple.AddressBook" to the trash
Go to Go>Home>Library>Application Support and drag "Address Book" to the trash
Export Outlook 2011 Calendars to iCalIs there a file format that I can use to export from Outlook 2011 and then import into iCal? I will use this file format to individually export each of my calendars from Outlook 2011 and import them into iCal.
Export Outlook 2011 Contact List to Apple Address BookIs there a file format that I can use to export from Outlook 2011 and then import into Apple Address Book?
    Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi acs4055,
As per your query I found a relevant solution for resolving this,  actually I haven’t tried the steps you wrote here in your query.  But I found a solid key answer for exporting from Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9.1) Outlook 2011 to iCal for Apple mail. This is possible through Drag and Drop method via this you can undoubtedly migrate Outlook 2011 Calendar to ical format.
Hope it will assist you and you will be able to attain a desired solution.

Some older addresses that sync from Outlook no longer showup on my ipad and iphone.  Data is in Outlook and in Icloud contacts.  Any suggestions?  Some of the newer addresses seem to sync but the older ones (family) addresses are not.  The data is showing up in Outlook and in icloud but doesn't show up in my contacts after a sync.

  • How do we transfer contacts and mails from apple mail and address book to Microsoft outlook on my mac

How do we transfer contacts and mails from apple mail and address book to Microsoft outlook on my mac

From Contacts, anyway (the new version of Address Book) you can export to a .abbu file and import then into Outlook. I'm not sure about Mail as I only really use Outlook...

  • I'm trying to import contacts from Outlook to mac address book. I've exported as a CSV but when i try to open with the Address book import tool, the file is greyed out and can't be imported

I'm trying to import contacts from Outlook to Mac address book. I've exported as a CSV but when I try to open with the Address book import tool, the file is greyed out and can't be imported. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

If you can't get the exported .csv file to work you might consider using Migration Assistant: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2518, particular if you need to move more than just your contacts.  There is some granularity in the options on what to transfer but I'm not sure if you can choose to just your migrate contacts.

  • What is the best way to switch to Thunderbird from Incredimail (old emails and address book)?

I'm feeling trapped in Incredimail. What is the best way to move over to Thunderbird? I'd like to keep my old emails, attachments and the address book as well. Is this possible?
I've seen the program "PCVARE IncrediMail Converter" at www.pcvare.com/incredimail-converter.html#dl.
Isn't there a better way (and free) to get out and away from the Incredimail trap?

    Bonjour,
Open the address book window of TB. By the menu Tools / Import you can discover the possibilities and files formats accepted by TB for importing.
I don't know Incredimail, explore the menus of Incredimail to find how you can export data.

  • Thunderbird adds " and characters to my email addresses from my address book, and then can't send them because they are unrecogniseable, how do I stop it?

If I click a contact in the contact payne of a write window, it comes up in the To: place as <" joeblogs"@talktalk.com> for example. Even though in the address book it is [email protected] When I try to send the email, it comes back as an unrecogniseable address and is not sent. If I remove the <""> characters by hand ,it works. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Thank you Matt, I think the problem is solved. I must have been in the habit of putting a space before the email address, one I removed them the "" were removed, The <> still surrounds the email address on the outgoing mail but that is to differentiate the address from the friends name. Thanks.

  • Since "upgrading" to OS X Lion Outlook 2011 sync services appear not to work and I have no contacts in Address Book apart from me!  Any ideas please?

Sync Services in Outlook 2011 appear not to work in OS X Lion as I have no contacts in Address Book apart from me!  Any ideas please?

I had all my contacts deleted one day from muy address book.   The Apple folks said that at times when MS Office sends an update it moves all your contacts from the address book to Outlook contacts.  I had to get into Time Machine to restore my contacts in the address book.
If you do this, be sure to update each group, not just the all contacts group because pulling up all contacts will not restore the contacts to the groups you had.
If you sync with Moble Me, be careful to replace what is on Mobile Me with what is on your comptuer after you are finished restoring the contacts to your satisfaction.
I haven't switched to iCloud yet so I can't talk about syncing to it.

  • I want to copy Thunderbird from Vista to Windows 7 - including all messages and address book

I tried to do this using Windows Easy Transfer but it didn't work properly. It only transferred the basic Thunderbird setup and loaded messages which were left on the server but not the address book or the emails on Vista which I want to keep. Frustrating!

I used the Gmail option which looked more simple for a non computer literate person. It more or less worked after a bit of tweaking - I copied the gmail messages manually across to Thunderbird and also created my address book as that didn't go across either. All is fine now, thanks.

  • Trying to import address books and templates from old Netscape Communicator 4.8 to Thunderbird. What old version of Thunderbird to use ( new version wont do

Been using Communicator 4.8 for years. Working fine had no reason to change. But now security settings wont work with yahoo pop server.
Want to import my address books and templates to thunderbird.
New version of Thunderbird 31.0 doesn't have import for communicator that old. Earlier versions do.
Figured I'd use old version of thunderbird to import and then update thunderbird to 31.00
Tried thunderbird 3.0 which has importer for 4.73 but getting error message that it is having trouble. Anyone know last version of thunderbird that had netscape 4.8 importer ? Thought maybe a later version would be able to import and then update to newest thunderbird.
    Thanks

1 - there is no importing involved - you NEVER import an iPhoto library into another iPhoto library
2 - you have to run programs after you download them - go to your applications folder ==> utilities and launch the library upgrader  --  Then launch iPhoto to complete the upgrade
