Addresses gone

After the latest updates, all the contacts are gone from the address book. These seems to be a backup file, but I don't know how to use it.
"~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook.data.previous" is grayed out when I choose file -> revert to address book backup. It is probably looking for a backup created by file -> backup address book.

Hi!
I have exactly the same problem on my new MacBook Pro. Very annoying!
I'm not an expert but might it be possible that the installation of the recently released "MacBook, MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0" (which activated the journaling) caused the problem?
If so: APPLE, please tell us how to recreate our Address Book contents!
Does anyone know how to recreate the files??
Thanks for your suggestions!
Yours,

  • Address Book:  All addresses gone

Happy day today (uggg).....open up address book (as an APP, or within Mail program).  All addresses gone.
I do have a 3 month old BACK UP which I can use in desperation. But before I do, any thoughts on how to recover the current address book?
    JON

It sure seems to be gone.
An A& I then updateing again may prevent some future problem, just not sure what the cause is.
Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
    >So, what are the two links, Memtest, and Rember, do??  I have not gone there yet.
They're 2 apps that work together & do a better test of the RAM.Memory.

  • Where is the feature "Send using External Address" gone?

Did someone found the MobileMe feature "Send using External Address" in iCloud?

No, currently there is none. There is only the option to configure iCloud Aliases in the webinterface but no more external adresses and mail servers. So currently no possibility to use the Webmail interface with an external address.
In Lion Mail Programm it is easy to add the external email adress and use an alternative server for sending. On iOS devices you can also configure a IMAP account with the iCloud server as incoming server and your external address/server for sending.
Hope this will be added in the next weeks for the webmail interface. It was already there in MobileMe. No idea why they didn't port that feature to iCloud.

  • Where is the feature "Send and receiving using External Address" gone?

    Hi,
I have been using MobileMe and iCloud to collect E-Mails from external Mailboxes via pop3, but since a few days this feature is gone. Does anybody know how to reenable this?
    Thanks
    moelli

I seem to remember a few people reported that: probably a hangover from the migration: but it was just a glitch. The facility isn't available, I'm afraid.

  • Panic:  All addresses gone from Address book

    Goodness me: I'm toast:
All my addresses disappeared. It has been months since I backed up the Vcards.
I was adding addressess, and my address book (and mail program) froze up (spinning beach ball of death). Did a force quit and reboot.
Nothing in address book accept my suer name email and Apple web site.
Am I toast? Can I recover??
    help!
    JON

    Hi,
In Mail, to create a vCard for a specific contact, select them from the list and right-click (Control-click) on their name. From the pop-up menu choose "Export vCard...".
To create a vCard that contains the information for all the people in a certain group, select the group you want from the list, right-click on it and choose "Export Group vCard...".
Add (import) the addresses into Address Book
    1. Open the Address Book application.
    2. Choose Import from the File menu.
    3. Navigate to the file that you exported from your previous application and select it from the list of files. Tip: if you cannot select the file, the Open button will not pulsate. This may indicate that the file is not in a format that Address Book can read.
    4. Click Open.
Your addresses (contacts) are now available for use in Address Book and all Mac OS X applications that work with Address Book.

  • Mail addresses gone?

Where does Mail save all the mail addresses? I search this file. Because I have after the update to Leopard no more the automatic mail addresses recognition. For example I have received in 2005 an email from [email protected], so now when I want to write a new mail I could type in the field for the receipient john and mail didt usually the work for me showing up [email protected], even if he wasnt saved as a contact in the addressbook.
    Please someone?
    Thanks!

    Hello bneely!
Great, thanks for the fast answer. Yes indeed, I know that this should be automatically. And I think it worked for me. But now this problem appeared and so I have to search in my Tiger backup for the right file. The big problem is now, how to convert the Tiger file into Leopard file!?

  • Address Book, Spotlight ERRORS!

    Hello members and outside viewers,
These are software related issues, but I think of might be Mac Pro specific. I migrated everything from a G5 some time ago, but these issues occured in the near past.
First: My Address Book behaves very strange.
After startup, the window freezes. Only if I minimize and click again, works OK. I began used to it, BUT
Since yesterday, Addresses gone, disappeared from every entry.
Under Preferences » Address Format is uneditable, it has "Item3" in it, unclickable drop down menu.
Under Preferences »Template » Add Field several options are grey: "Phone", "Email", "Related Names", "Instant Messaging", "Address".
Please can you help me! I deleted both plist files from Preferences folder and deleted the whole folder under Application Support/AddressBook, also reinstalled Address Book from Leopard DVD, but nothing helped so far.
Second thing: when I invoke Spotlight, and start typing after 2-3 seconds, it quits and also Dock unusable, restarts automatically. Spotlight is useless, it behaves every time like this. Spotlight in Finder windows are OK, system-wide menubar has this error. Also, it was suddenly gone wrong like Address Book. Can I think of some virus?
P.S. (off topic), might helpful to share: very frustating, that registering to Discussions took me over an hour.
With Safari 4.03 the "Name" and "AppleID" are blank fields on "Create New User Account", therefore impossible to proceed. ( Error: invalid AppleID. Please login with a different AppleID )
With Firefox you can actually see them, but "?" instead of accounted letters.
After changing My Info, I finally realised that Apple ID should be complete e-mail address.
That means my "visionfresh" account is totally different from "[email protected]" (or me.com, whatever..)
Not to mention that I created a new Apple ID, that was also not working.
Bottom line: my "[email protected]" account is working also in Safari after editing my Name (replace accented characters), but I could not proceed with the nickname "visionfresh", I chose "matyashuszar".

  • New MAC OSX Address Book Groups Do Not Appear in iTunes for iPhone Sync?

New Groups (and their associated new contacts) created in the MAC OSX Address Book since the initial installation of my iPhone do not appear in iTunes, and hence do not sync with iPhone. I have tried the Advanced - Replace information on this iPhone - Contacts to no avail.

I had this problem for several weeks now!
I followed your procedure and - addresses there, calender gone! Even worse!
So I copied the old SyncServices Folder back into /Library/Application Support/
result as expected, calender there, addresses gone.
My lady called, I was on the phone for 10 minutes or so. Coming back to my iMac I see a Sync-Problem-Icon jumping in the dock. I've been told that one of my addresses has a conflict between adressbook and iPhone. OK. Solve it with adressbook, please.
I open iTunes and everything is there, calender data and adresses!
    Finally!
    Thank you, Maurizio!

  • Cancelling 2nd .MAC email address but keeping name as alias?

I've got a .mac email address which is my primary email address. But I opened a second email address as a business email address. All the mail goes to the same account. But now I'd like to cancel my second email address and re-open it as an ALIAS in my primary email account. Is that possible? or is the second email address gone forever...
I hope that makes sense... thanks in advance for any help.

    Bruno...
devoted to this the @mac address so it is very important to get it working.
Try resetting the password associated with your .mac account.

  • WRT54G2 V.1 - Mac Filter List gone - Security Hole ?

    Help,
I was trying to block some unwanted users using Mac Filter but for unknown reason, after I succeed, my Mac Filter List gone empty. It happened several times. First I let it happened some times so I'm sure what really happened there.
My config is let wireless users able to access the web server by Http. I use WPA2 Personal with TKIP-AES. I let my SSID broadcast, and I let any users who need access to the network know/use the secret key.
I thought it shouldn't be mattered since I protect my Linksys Web Server use good password. But I was wrong. And when 'it' happened (just before MAC Address gone empty and blocked users then able to connected to my network), uknown device got connected to the network first.
It happened several times as I said before, but the last one hit me surely that my config, Mac Filter list, anyhow, can get erased by something/someone if I keep this way. So I decided to change the config and not let the wireless users to have access to my linksys web server.
I change from Http to Https. I disabled wireless users to having access to the web server. And to make me comfort I activate AP Isolation too. I use Access (internet) Restriction rather than Mac Filter because it is more comfortable to me as I can create policies.
Anyone have same experience ? Expert explanation would be a great appreciate.
Oh yes. I don't have any config change since I use my new configuration. That's what I can tell. Thanks.

to a determined hacker, MAC address filtering is a trivial security block to overcome (as you seem to have found out). You would be better, as Gandalf said, to disable SSID broadcast, and provide the SSID and WPA passphrase to anyone that you want to allow to connect to your network.

  • Moving MobileMe address to icloud now

My grandmother never moved her mobileme email address to icloud. We are no longer able to access it and there doesn't appear to be an option to move it over any longer. I called apple directly and the person who answered the phone refused to even transfer me to a department to discuss the problem. Is her email address gone or can it still be recovered?
Btw, I went to icloud.com, entered her email address, and went through the recovery process but it did not work. For the birthdate verification it says the date is wrong (obviously it's not) and for the option to send a password reset to another address nothing ever happens.
    So I'm stumped. Advice?

As the MobileMe account was not migrated it has been deleted, including the entire contents of the iDisk and the emails: these are not recoverable by any means.
You can reactivate the email address (but not its previous contents) by going to System Preferences>iCloud on a compliant Mac (Lion 10.7.2 or above) or an iOS5/6 device and signing in with the address, then activating Mail.

  • Getting rid of old email address problem

I have updated a friends email address in Address Book and deleted her older address. However when I'm in the mail client and go to type her name if defaults to her older address that I deleted! I can still get the new address by scrolling down but I want the older address gone period. Why is it still showing up if I deleted it?

while in Mail go to window menu->previous recipients and remove the old address from it.
