Addressing a database or text file

Does anybody know what would be the soloution of addressing a database or text file and creating a folder for each entry - I work with 200 people who all need a folder to place work but obviously wanna sus a short cut!
Help!

Do you mean you want to extract a folder path from lines in a text file and create a folder from that path?
You would have to paste a few lines from the file.

  • Can't import the address part of a text file into Address Book

    I am trying to import from a text file. It simply will not let me hit OK if I try to import the address information but works fine if I omit the address.
    Any ideas? Getting very frustrated.
    Schmleff

    I exported my database in a tab delimited format from palm desktop on a windows machine.
    I clicked import from the address book menu, selected "from text file". It opens the import window as you would expect it to. I begin to align the data with the proper fields. If I ignore all address information, it imports just fine, but obviously with no addresses. If I try to align any address information at all, it will not let me click ok. the button clicks, but does nothing. If I unselect the address info again, its imports. No directions are available to guide me and everything looks like it should work. Begining to feel like Im in windoze world again.

  • Save Appleworks Database as Text File

    I'm trying to save an Appleworks 6 database as a text file so that I can import into Microsoft Access on my PC. When I go to file>save as in Appleworks it only lists Appleworks 6, 5 and ClarisWorks as file format options. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Any tips on how to convert this to PC Access database would be awesome as well. Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    The "has been deleted" error isn't actually related to saving. AppleWorks doesn't "understand" OS X well & can give some strange error messages. Although I've only gotten this message when I've had AppleWorks 6 open in both Classic & OS X at the same time on previous Macs, others get it like you with no specific cause. It usually is fixed by using Disk Utility to repair permissions and deleting the AppleWorks 6 preferences. See my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly, for more on the preferences. Neither permissions or preferences are replaced or fixed with installation.
    It would have been best for you to have started a new topic as your problem isn't not having the option to save as text, but not being able to save in any format.

  • Database or text file

    Since I was able to get my first question answered so quicky (thanks again), I wonder if I could get an opinion from the experienced programmers here.
    I am creating a computer forensics application to verify file signatures found in the header , to the extension. For example, a .pdf file has a hex file signature of 25 50 44 46, a .com file has a signature of 4d 5a, etc. Each file type has it's own file signature.
    My question is two-fold. First, what would be considered an optimal means of storing and accessing the data for each file type? Second, what would be the optimal means for adding new data?
    With my limited knowledge, I have two means avaialable. One would be to create a text file with the necessary information. Then all I would need to do is find the correct string, and parse the information necessary to make the correction. My other thought was to make an individual class for each type of file, and add classes as necessary. Since each type of file has a differnt signature, and it's found in different places in the header, and even sometimes skips spaces, essentially each type has to be handled a little differently. Then I would just need to constructors to access the proper class.
    Any thoughts?

    database seems as too much for your problem, serarching the
    text file for each entry seems very resource/time consuming.
    I would propouse making a Hashtable with the extension
    as a key, and the signature as the value, and then having a
    loadHashtable and a saveHashtable method so you would just have to
    create the hashtable when you start your app and save it when you end it:
    class FileHeader{
    String extension,hex_signature;
    public FileHeader(String ext,String hex_sig){
    extension = ext;
    hex_sig = hex_signature;
    //other methods
    public String getExtension(){
    return extension;
    public String getSignature(){
    return hex_signature;
    public class MyApp{
    java.util.Hashtable files_hash;
    public MyApp(){
    files_hash=new java.util.Hashtable();
    loadHashtable();
    public void loadHashtable(){
    //load the hashtable with FileHeader objects containing every filetype
    public void saveHashtable(){
    //save all the extension,signature pairs in a file
    public boolean checkSignature(String extension,String proposed_signature){
    FileHeader file = (FileHeader) files_hash.get(extension);
    return file.getSignature().equals(proposed_signature);

  • Importing email addresses from a text file

    I have a db on one of my websites that I maintain for my client. I can download that db as an Excel file. This db has many fields.
    Once I download that Excel file I open and sort it for just the email addresses I want. Then I copy and paste those email addresses in plain RTF text file. So, now I have a long list of email addresses. I then have to put a comma after each one and then saved that file.
    Here's my question"
    What I want to do next is import that RTF list into Mail (somehow) as a group so I can send out a couple of hundred emails at a time to my customers in the Bcc box. And if I understand it correctly, since all those addresses are in the Bcc box those who receive those emails will only see their email address in the To: box.
    So how can I do this? How can I take this RTF file bring it into Mail and get this done.
    First time on this forum.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Martin
    I have been seeking answers on this forum for a problem you will encounter (but may not have yet). Firstly, you will want to import your DB files into AdressBook, not Mail. IN AddressBook you sort your contacts into groups for email or whatever. The Mail Program then uses that data to fill in its fields.
    The problem I have been having is that AddressBook seems like it should import, indeed looks like it should do it very simply, but ..... simply doesn't do it when you click the "OK" button.... as you might expect. I have not found the answer here yet, but suspect that its an OS development snafu and must needs be done another way. Some replies seem to suggest a solution at Versiontracker. com
    Good luck

  • How to load a comma seprated text file which contain address in to sql server table using ssis package

    Hi,
    I want to load a file which is comma separated and contain address .Problem is that address its self comma seprated so how do I differenciate whether comma used for column seprator or it used in address.
    for eg.
    One person having address like
    "c/o AB corp,156 cross lane,USA"
    Thanks.....

    Hi SR_MCTS,
    Based on your description, you want to distinguish a comma is used for column separator or used in address column in a text file, then load the data from the text file to SQL Server table.
    As per my understanding, if you can replace the comma column separator to another delimiter like semicolon (;), just do it. Then we can select Semicolon {;} as Column delimiter for the Flat File Connection Manager. Or ensure all columns are enclosed in double
    quotes ("). Then we can set the double quotes (") as Text qualifier for the Flat File Connection Manager, and the commas will be loaded as part of the string fields.
    If you can't have that done, because computers don't know the context of the data, you would have to come up with some kind of rules that decides when a comma represents a delimiter, and when it is just part of the text. I think a custom script component
    would be necessary to pre-process the data, identify where a comma is part of an address, and then treat that as one field.

    Can anyone help me to create header and fooder in text file.Well you plainly have the code to write the file contents; and furthermore your report seems to be contained in a List called 'data'. Why not just add the header and footer lines to it? I'd also suggest making 'data' a LinkedList. That way you can add the header afterwards with no performance hit, just in case the information it contains isn't available at the start of your report loop.

  • Importing text file databases into address book

    I have a large csv formatted (all that easily allowed by my exporting database) that I want to import into addressbook. By the instructions this should work and so I diligently configured the "Text file import" screen to align the fields as they should be imported - and the sample entries shown in that window look and are configured exactly as they should be. However, when I click on the OK button in the "Text file import" window, I could not tell if it was importing one item or the thousands. But when I look at the address book it indicates that it imported all thousands of contacts. THE PROBLEM is that in the address book (which was previously essentially empty) the only items listed under "Names" is "No Name" (a huge number of them) and each one has NO other fields filled in. So it appears that nothing is importing despite that the Text file import screen shows everything set up correctly. Thoughts/help?

    My problem is the same as Roderick. Text File Import reads my file and shows me the data that it will import. I dilligently assign all of the appropriate columns and press "OK"...Nothing happens. Any ideas?

  • How do I export Address Book to text file?

    I want to create a separate database for my professional contacts using Excel or Filemaker.  Right now I have them all in Address Book.  If I could just export my database as a tab-delimited text file.

    The AB file

    is a SQLite3 database. You can extract data with
    http://menial.co.uk/software/base/
    or Firefox SQLite manager

  • Treating a text file as a database

    I would like to create a database in the form of a simple text file and use Java to access/maintain it.
    I was thinking at first that JDBC-ODBC would be the way to go but I'm having syntax problems.
    Is there a better way to handle this? Or perhaps does someone have a good example they could share with me?

    If you already know SQL, writing your own JDBC driver that will create and access XML documents is easy
    by John B. O'Donahue
    As Java programmers, we have probably all used JDBC drivers. But until I received a project that was shipped without the commercial database it was built around, I had never thought of writing my own JDBC driver.
    A major factor in my decision to attempt writing my own driver was that I was creating XML documents from my database tables anyway. It made sense to use the XML documents as my storage medium, and either replace the entire interface with a DOM interface, or write a JDBC driver to interface to the XML. Well, I hate ripping out code that works, and writing a JDBC driver looked like a lot of fun, so the decision was easy.
    The main limitation of XML parsers is that they address the mechanics of the document, although the user is generally much more interested in content. The JDBC API, on the other hand, is geared toward handling data. A marriage of the two can give you the best of both worlds, particularly when you consider that a huge percentage of the XML on the Web was generated automatically from a database in the first place.
    In this article, we'll be using the moreover.com news feeds as a real-world example of a practical use of XML. This example also shows off the advantages of a SQL-based approach. We really just want to scan for stories that interest the user, in much the same way as we scan newspaper headlines. A SQL query for headlines containing specific topics is a much more natural, content-oriented approach than a tree-parsing model, which is essentially document oriented.

  • Text file statement into database

    Dear All,
    I am trying to fetch data from a text file in to Oracle database to print.
    The problem I have is that I cannot gather data because this is a text statement, generated by a report utility and the data consist of multiple dimensions.
    First 3 fields of data are in the first 3 rows of a page and the rest is displayed column wise for the next 20 rows (5th row to 24th Row). Then there is a page break character ASCII (012) (Hex - 0C)then the next record starts.
    Please give me a solution to fetch first 3 lines to one master table & the column of data to a detail table.

  • Address book .... importing text file

    I am designing an address book which opens a text file called AddressBook.txt which reads in the information in the following format:
    lastname,firstname,street,city,state,zip,phonenumber,birthday,persontype
    lastname2,firstname2,street2,city2,state2,zip2,phonenumber2,birthday2,persontype2
    etc. (with a maximum entries of 500)
    I am having a problem reading in the information without the commas and wrapping to the next line. I can either use the BufferedReader or Scanner to input the file and as you can see below, my code is not complete yet. I can't figure out how to code the storeAddress() method in order to get the addressBookEntries[] to include the necessary information for outputting, sorting, etc. If I can get the information read into the addressBookEntries[], I think I will probably be able to proceed in the rest of the required tasks (i.e. sorting by last name, searching by last name, etc.)

    Ok, I have changed my code to reflect your suggested changes, but I'm still unsure how to use the findInLine you suggested.... This is all very new to me and I've been looking on the java website for suggestions, but I'm still stumped on how to pull this together. I'm unsure on how to set the lastname,firstname,etc. for retrieval...

    Plz clarify whether u want to load text file as a file into database or value of this text file into database. If values are to be loaded from this text file, U can better format the text file and use SQL loader to load the file into database. By formatting the database, i mean remove the unnecessary headings and characters, kee only the values to be loaded idelimited by ' '(space) or ','(comma). Create a control file and load it into the target table.

  • Export address book group text file?

    Hi,
    I need to get a group of addresses to a friend who can not use the vcard format. I need to do it in a text file format, but don't see any way in address book to do that.
    Can you help?
    Meg

    The vcards are actually text files - you can read them with BBEdit or Text Editor.
    One way to achieve what you want is clumsy but may be workable, depending on the number in the group and what your friend plans to do with them. In Address Book, select the group and go to File/Print. Choose the List style, select the fields to be included and then click the PDF button and save the group as a PDF. Send the PDF to your friend. Friend can open it, click the "Select Text" tool, select the data and copy it off to whatever is to receive it.
    Another more standard way would be to run applescript to pull the data you need into a comma-separated or tab-separated data file which can be imported into spreadsheet or address book programs. Several versions of such scripts have been posted here recently, or there are various importer/exporter scripts available on the internet.
