ADDT Locks up DW CS3

Hello, I am now experiencing the same problem found in the ColdFuison Forum where I can use the List Wizard just fine - but any time I try the INSERT RECORD Wizard or CREATE DYNAMIC FORM Wizard - Dreamweaver locks up - I thought that it may have to do with having Contribute enabled on my site, but I am not so sure. I have several sites all hosted on the same hosting company and I am having a problem with currently just 1 site locking up when I try the INSERT WIZARD so, potentially it is a database connection however, the LIST WIZARD works without any problem so that doesn't make sense to me as to why this not work.

Here is what I have done so far - we have moved the database over to the same server as a site that this feature works - that did not fix the problem.

We ran the PHP Info on a site that works and one that doesn't - I do see that the versions are different, but I am told that does not matter - I am not sure what else I need to be looking at for I do see some difference in the PHP Core information.

I am working with the Hosting Company as well but they do not understand why this feature locks up only on and INSERT or UPDATE wizard.

I was getting frustrated and said, what if I did not bring over the files from the site and just started from complete scratch on my new LocalNetwork - so I did that - created a new site folder - made 1 file - index.php and hit the wizard button - and it worked. So, that made me think, what if I totally DELETE the INCLUDES folder from my trouble site - and try running the wizard to re-create the INCLUDES folder. So, that is exactly what I did - and guess what...
IT ALL WORKS!

So, all I can understand from this is someone the Includes folder got corrupt along the way - perhaps by Contribute or perhaps not for I still left that running this time around - the only difference is that in the first case, I turned on Contribute AFTER the Includes folder was created - so maybe something happened at that time.

Vector Mask Lock? PS CS3

Im creating a simple vector in PS & was wondering if you could lock the VECTOR mask. When I used Illustratror I can lock the layers from being selected. Can you do the same in PS CS3 vectors without rasterizing it?

It is relatively easy to create Collage PSD Template for Photoshop. There are several ways to design them. One way is to create image place holder layer with layer mask that you insert images into when you populate a copy of a template. Photoshop support thousands of layers.
The way I do it is to user Alpha channels to map where images go. Photoshop only supports 53 Alpha channels so my collage templates are limited to 53 images. I populate my template using Photoshop scripts. The Alpha channels are use to resize placed image files to fit the alpha channel sizes. Also to position the resized image and to virtually crop the resize images by adding the alpha channels to the image smart object layers. I have scripts that batch populate templates, Populate one and remain open in Photoshop for further tweaking. And a interactive script the allows you to select image as the template is being populated and tweak their placement and sizing. The script also have options for adding text layer with filename over the images in one of 9 locations. Layer styles can also be optionally added to image and text layers. Animated Templates are even possible.

Locking curor in cs3 (like in cs2)

in cs2 you could use the shift key while eg burning to lock it in place so it doesnt go up, or you could click somewhere hold shift and click somewhere else to burn the area between those points, now in cs3 i dont know how to get this to work, ive searched help and the internet, but i just dont find it, is there anyone that can help me?

MX would let you do it the wrong way, and CS3 will not.
To center a table in CS3, you would use the Align field, not
the "Center
Text" icon. That would have worked in MX, too, and it's the
proper way to
do it.
To center an image in CS3, you should be able to do it the
same way you did
in MX - use the Center Text icon. Select the image and click
on the Center
Text icon.

Locked files in cs3

I have checked the forums but cannot see this problem although there are similar problems. Unfortunatly none seem to resolve my problem. My problem is that i had to re-instate windows xp plus all my software and since doing this some of my files on my external HD will not open i try and i get the error message "could not complete the request because the file is locked. use the properties command in windows explorer to unlock the file" i dont know how to get the files viewable again photoshop opens ok it just doesnt open the pictures
any help please would be great. I have tried to re-capture the files and give myself full permision but i still cant get to view them some will view as thumbnails but get the same message when i try to open them.
these files are really inportant so any help pleas

There is a little freeware app. Unlocker, that *should* get you going. I would, however, look into why Windows sees your external HDD's files as locked. It is most likely a Permissions issue and you can start looking for the answer in your User accounts. It would be most likely when you did the reinstall of Windows, that something went off. Plan on spending a bit of time looking at various Properties panels.
Last, look at whether you have windows Indexing turned on. It can "lock" a file, or deny access, while it's doing its thing. In Windows Explorer, check Properties for your external and all of its folders. If Indexing is turned on, try turning it off and click on "All Folders and Sub-folder," or some such syntax. This might take a moment to Apply. It can speed a search up a bit, but for large files, that change often, can really slow everything else down. I'd be OK with it, if it only ran on startup, and not when any file has been changed, but it wants to index with every change.

Locked Layers in CS3

upon opening a jpeg and finding it locked I unlock by using new layer from background. But even on this unlocked layer I can not use paint brush. I can use the lasso and edit/fill but can't paint on the layer. Nothing happens with the paintbrush. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... thanks

Background layers transparency is always locked because they do not support transparency. All pixels are 100% opaque. If you can not paint on a background check the tools option bar make sure blending mode is normal and opacity and fill 100% foreground color is good and if you have a tablet the pen control icons are in a good state.

Eye dropper tool locking up in CS3

When I use my eyedropper tool, it doesn't work and everything locks up. This started a couple of days ago and I can't even exit the program normally. I have no idea what I did to make this happen...and it is so frustrating. Hopefully it is only a little glitch that someone can clear up for me! Thanks!

When a tool misbehaves the first step is to reset the tool from the Options bar drop-down.
If that fails try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults. A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

Hidden & locked layers appear in pdfs

For some reason, and all of a sudden, hidden (and locked) layers containing content are showing up in Acrobat conversions.
This is a huge pain: I send a pdf version of a graphic to a client, and they can see every layer, even though I have it hidden & locked in AI CS3.
Is this an Illustrator problem or an Acrobat problem?
Any advice would be MOST appreciated!

This has a great deal to do with the PDF format you are saving to. For example, Acrobat 4 format (1.3 I think) is a flat file format. Much like an EPS hidden objects become visible when the file is flattened. Why? I don't know. I've asked for a warning or something to alert the user to hidden objects/layers for a while now with no luck.
However, Acrobat 5 format (1.4+ I believe) is a layered format that supports transparency. Saving to Acrobat 5 or higher should not make hidden objects visible. In fact, they will be included in the PDF but still hidden. Often adding to the PDF file size (kb).
I generally find it best to Save, Show All (Command-Option-3), Delete, Save as PDF. This reduces the PDF file size and ensures nothing will suddenly show itself in the resulting PDF.

Which versions of DW work with Which ADDT?

Hi,
I've been using DW MX 2004 with the Interakt Kollection.
When Adobe took over Interakt I took advantage of the offer to download ADDT, but have not used it yet.
I'm now ready to start using ADDT, and to do so I'll need to upgrade to a newer version of DW - I just want to check that the version I have of ADDT (I assume it was the original version) will work with DW CS3.
I ask because the system requirements for ADDT currently state that CS3 is required, but when I downloaded the version I have, DW 8 was the requirement, so I'm concerned that there is now a newer version of ADDT.
I hope all this makes sense!

it´s still ADDT version 1.0, and the official pages still say you need DW CS3 -- where have you seen that "DW 8 required" statement ?

Feature restore request. (allow locked and grouped objects to be able to tagged.

In CS2, using the direct selection tool, I'm able to select and tag the image even if it's grouped and locked, no script needed at all, no sweat and fast!
Furthermore this XML element can also be moved freely in the structure hierarchy after tagged and remains grouped and locked.
In CS3 and CS4,
I can't do that.
It will give a warning message "Cannot modify elements that contain locked content, or are contained by locked content. Please unlock or check out the content and try again."
So need to write script to unlock the image's parent first, and then tag and locked the object back automatically.
(This script is essential so as to prevent any unintentional and accidental change on the page layout if it's done manually)
But to make matter worse, grouped objects will need to also find out all these ancestors and have them unlocked first!
It creates alot of hassle! Really being user-unfriendly in CS3/CS4 when doing such a simple xml tagging task.
PLEASE please restore the wonderful CS2 feature back in the next version of Indesign.

Populate table for CS3

Having finally done the upgrade from CS2 - my good 'ol "Populate Table" script seems to lock up in CS3 each time I use it. The app doesn't crash - it seems to be open but the document window disappears.
I'm wondering if the script is incompatible with CS3.
Has anyone found a script that works in CS3?

Oooooookay. I just had my cursor in the first cell.
I just drag selected the whole table in ID and pasted and it worked.

Photoshop unexpectedly quits when quitting program

2 X 3.2 Quad Intel Processor
8 GM RAM
Have tried as different user - still get error
Have checked preferences file and it is NOT locked
Have reinstalled CS3
Have reset preferences
Have repaired disk permissions
Each time I quit photoshop still get the error that it has quit unexpectedly.
No other problems. PCS3 works fine, just at quitting.

I don't know if you solved this issue yet. I started having the same issue after I installed the drivers and software for an Epson all in one printer and scanner. It only happened when I exited CS3, and on both my MacPro and MacBook Pro.
I isolated the offending item to the Twain driver for the scanner. In Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources was the driver for the scanner portion. I am using the printer attached through my Airport extreem, and thus don't use the scanner. I deleted the driver, and the issue is now gone. I finally noticed the scanner was showing up in my File/Import menu, and thats what made me drill into where the scanner drivers were.
Have you added anything like a scanner, or one of the new all in one printers. If so I would check out the drivers.

Export to Flash CS4

I have an interaction built in CP and it runs pretty well. However, when I exported it to Flash CS4, I lost all the interactions (it became a simply linear play)and got a big bunch of errors while previewing it.
If files exported to Flash from Captivate can not be edited in Flash, what's the purpose of providing this exporting feature then?
Is this a bug?
Anyone has experience with attempt to edit the actionscript in Flash after exporting the CP file to Flash CS3 or 4?

Sounds like it might be locked to Flash CS3. Captivate 3 does
not know
anything about Flash CS4, since it was released a long time
after Captivate
3.

Hi, I'm getting a consistent message in the Mac Console utility log when I run Bridge: Bridge CS3[3623]: *** -[NSLock unlock]: lock (<NSLock: 0x2846dbe0> '(null)') unlocked when not locked Bridge CS3[3623]: *** Break on _NSLockError() to debug. I've recently installed several Bridge scripts - any idea how to fix the issue? I'm using Creative Suite CS3 and OSX 10.5.3 Thanks, John

It looks like the problem is related to PhotoShop instead of Bridge and an Epson Printer Scanner.

Photoshop CS3 - files are locked to 1 user after editing

Hi there,
Our setup is the following:
6 Mac OS X 10.5.8 clients with Adobe CS3. The images reside on a shred folder hosted on Mac OS X 10.5 Server. SC3 users are in an ACL group that has read/write permissions to all the shared files.
The issue we have is the following: One user opens an image and edits it in Photoshop, then saves changes and closes it. All other users who subsequently try to edit the file get the message "The file is locked. Use "get info" command in finder to unlock it". When you use the "get info" command as suggested - the "locked" tick box is greyed out and it says "you have read and write access to this file" - but you do not. The user who originally edited the file does not experience this issue, but everybody else does.
I first though it was an Mac permissions issue. So I tested by putting text documents in the abovementioned shared folder and then editing them as different users - no problems there, so it seems this issue is related to Photoshop.
Any advice on this problem would be appreciated. Also has anyone experienced the similar issue with CS5? As we are thinking about upgrading.

This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.

Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

Open jpegs from Premier CS3 in PhotoshopCS3 says locked file will not save to jpeg

When I open a jpeg or tiff, from Premiere to photoshop, and make some modifications (like simply mode to grayscale) and try to save it back to the jpeg it refuses, saying the file is locked and I should go to Explorer, properties and unlock. However the files are not locked in the properties, so my only choice is to save as another file, re-load it itno Premiere, and put it on the timeline. I used to be able to edit directly from Premier to Photoshop, and save - on CS3!
I have no clue what I might have done to cause this, except it is a fresh install of Master Suite on a fresh install of Vista Ultimate.
Any help appreciated.

I also realize that my saying, "that is the way it works for me," doesn't help you, since it doesn't work for you. Did it EVER work for you? YES IT DID, THAT IS WHAT IS PUZZLING, AND IN CS3 ALSO.
Couple of thoughts/questions:
Are you networked? YES, 2 WSIDE BY SIDE AND A THECUS RAID5 5 TERABYTE DATA BOS WHERE I KEEP MANY VIDEO AND STILLS. Are you logged in as an Administrator? I AM THE ONLY ADMINISTRATOR AND LOGGED IN AS SUCH. Are the Assets on internal (non-mapped) HDDs? IN FACT THE THECUS ACTS JUST LIKE ANOTHER INTERNAL HARD DRIVE, NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH IT BEFORE. I'M NOT MUCH OF A COMPUTER PERSON, SO NOT EVEN SURE WHAT MAPPED MEANS, BUT WHEN I WAS ABLE TO EDIT FROM PREMIERE BY SIMPLY CLICKING ON EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP, AND THE ASSETS WERE STORED ON THE THECUS, FIXES CAME BACK DIRECTLY TO PREMIERE. NOW THE SAY 'LOCKED' Any on external, or mapped-network HDDs? Are the Assets coming off of some media like CD, or DVD, and not first being transferred to internal HDDs? ALL ASSETS ARE ON INTERNAL DRIVES. I'VE TRANSFERRED SOME MEDIA TO THE SCRATCH DISC INTERNAL DRIVE AND GET THE SAME RESULT. If they originate FROM CD/DVD, are you making sure that they are not listed as Read Only, after copying? ALL I HAVE CHECKED HAVE NO CHECK ON READ ONLY. NONE ARE RECENTLY BROUGHT IN, I HAVE NEARLY 30,000 PHOTOS SEVERAL TERABYTES OF VIDEO. Windows likes to flag them that way, and it can bite you later. Anyone else on your network using these Assets? Are you using them in AE, AI, InDesign, etc., while also using them in Premiere/PS? I ONLY HAVE PREMIERE AND PHOTOSHOP OPEN, I EVEN CLOSED DOWN BRIDGE. Last, do you have Indexing turned on for any of your HDDs, as Windows loves to "lock" files, while it does its indexing. I turn this off for ALL HDDs, especially for my large externals. (Sometimes, when I move the external HDDs from workstation to workstation, XP will turn Indexing back on, and I have to disable this - happens about 10% of the time.) I HAVE RECENTLY INSTALLED COPERNIC TO DO SEARCHING, VISTA IS NOT FINDING THINGS WELL ENOUGH, IT MIGHT BE THE INDEXING, I'LL TRY THAT WHEN I GET BACK THIS AFTERNOON. "Locking" is usually tied into permissions. That's why I ask about the networking aspects.
