ADE Authorization Trouble!!

When I try to authorize my ADE it tells me that 'auth is not ready'...I am trying to transfer a book downloaded from Overdrive to my Nook Color. Oh, and the format is epub.

I am not sure if this is possible using ADE.
There are apps such as epubee http://epubee.com
There are arguments on both sides about the legality of using such software;
as long as it is not used to circumvent the intent of the DRM it seems morally completely justified in cases there is no alternative solution.

  • ADE Authorization problems

    I am trying to authorize my computer in ADE 3.086137 and keep receiving an error message.  I am running Windows 8.1.  The message received is code: E_AUTH_NOT_READY.  Digital Editions encountered an error on the activation server.

    Was able to fix this problem and now have authorization.

  • ADE authorization

    I'm trying to use ADE, but I can't authorize my new computer? This would only be my second device.  Any suggestions?

    More detail would be helpful, live exactly what stage and what error message (though ADE error messages are very often not helpful)
    One thing to try ...
    ~~~~~
    Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
    Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
    Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
    A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
    Another is  "E_AUTH_NOT_READY"
    This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
    Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
    In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0
  • ADE authorization on Mac
    I cannot move my downloaded books into ADE.  I suspect it may be because I have not received authorization.  I believe there is supposed to be a authorization window pop up after you are finished installing ADE.  I get a message saying that the the installation is successful then nothing.  I can see the books in finder but they are "grayed" out and cannot be moved.  I am a novice at this and need help.  Thanks
    Hi,
    In order to fix this please follow the steps as given below.
    Open Digital Editions and on the top left corner click Library>>Authorize computer.
    If your computer is already authorize with ADE then it will show up the ID with which Digital Editions is authorized.
    Now if your computer is not authorized then it will give you an option to enter ID and password in order to authorize it.
    Now if your computer is already authorized and you are not able to open books then please follow the steps as given below.
    Delete restore folder from following location.
       C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\My Digital Editions.
    Once again download the same book.
    Now go to the location where you have downloaded book
    Right click on the book and select Open with.
    Now select Adobe Digital Editions
    Now the book should open in Digital Editions.
    I hope this will help you!!!
  • ADE Authorization failure
    I had to reinstall ADE on my computer after a hard drive failure.  Now I am getting a message that I can only authorize with an Adobe ID that hasn't been previously used.  Do I need to set up a new email address?!
    Three suggestions ...
    1) ~~~~~~~
    Doublecheck your firewall.  Maybe try with firewall (temporarily) turned off.
    There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
    (You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
    Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
    The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
    Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
    It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
    Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.
  • Help with ADE authorization?
    Hello,
    I've downloaded DE on my PC and I need to autorize it. Now my computer asks if I want to replace the AdobeID with the new one. I get confused, because DE was not on my computer yet, but I did autorize my ereader with my AdobeID.
    The question is, if the email adress stays the same, but the password changes, will I still be able to read the books that I already have on the ereader? I bought them via the ereader, so they were not on my computer before.
    When DE asks 'replace' does it mean to replace the anonymous account that is currently my pc or do I replace what I had before on the ereader as well? Because if I have to replace the AdobeID on my ereader as well, then I won't be able to read the ebooks that I put on the ereader.
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Denise
    Lots of folks seem to think that using Digital Editions with an ereader is
    'plug and play'.  It's not, because there's a fair amount of technology
    that lurks in the background.  No offense, Denise, but I should put a
    perspective around answers to your questions.
    Epublications conform to the Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 2000 (DMCA
    for short), which sets out the way that they are managed.  There are
    restrictions on copying and printing ebooks, and those restrictions can be
    set by authors, distributors and publishers using Digital Rights Managemen
    (DRM).  At the same time, library management systems like Digital Editions
    have to build these restrictions into their programs.  In addition, ereader
    manufacturers can choose certain options to build into their equipment.
    Some ereaders can be used without registering them with the manufacturer.
    But their capabilities are limited.  Some, like Kindles and
    iPads/iPods/iPhones, are bound to a certain ebookseller (Amazon or Apple).
    All PC library management systems can access ebook sources without being
    registered.  However, as you're finding out, some will impose limitations
    on you if you don't register.
    ADE - registered or not - creates a small ID file for each ebook, and that
    contains information about the user.  So, you're correct in saying that, if
    you use a different ID, you won't be able to read the ebooks that you
    downloaded with (or without) a different ID.
    Your ereader also contains registration information - if you registered it,
    then the ID you used is embedded in its ID file, and will be associated
    with all ebooks that are downloaded/copied onto it.
    All that said:
    ADE is somewhat flexible, as you found out.  You can authorize it with an
    ID and then change it when you want to.  However, due to the DMCA, it won't
    let you read any ebooks other than those with that ID.  One solution that's
    worked for others is to set up an Adobe ID that's independent of your email
    address (which you can do even though the suggested format is for an email
    address) and use that.  If you change email, then you don't affect your
    ebooks.  However, for the moment, whatever ID you use should correspond to
    the one you used to download the ebooks.
    I can't tell you exactly what to do with your ereader., but the same idea
    applies.  You need to register it, and using the same ID as you did for ADE
    simplifies things greatly.
    Hope this helps!
  • Authorization troubles
    When I try to authorize my iTunes purchases on my Macbook Pro, I get an error message that reads: "There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer. The required directory was not found or has a permissions error."
    I have never had this problem in the past (I have authorized this computer before-- it's my personal computer), but am concerned that I may have accidentally deleted a file or folder when I was cleaning up my HD yesterday that I need in order to authorize iTunes songs on my computer.
    I have NOT authorized more than 5 computers either, so that's not the issue... I am thinking the issue is with a certain folder or file needed on my computer, but I don't know what that is or how to get it back if necessary...
    Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
    In case anyone else has this problem, I found the answer in another Apple discussion. I had accidentally deleted the "Shared" folder and that's where the Authorization information is stored.
  • ITunes Authorization trouble -- 8.0, NOT 8.1
    Sigh. After reformatting my hard drive, I tried to reauthorize iTunes and it was giving me a hard time, so I changed my password. Now, I still can't authorize it for my old stuff - new stuff works fine.
    So I guess I somehow created a new account, but when I try to re-authorize the old stuff with my old account (the user name it says in the info summary for those tracks), it says my user ID (my yahoo email address) can't be found, which is how I ended up creating a new account in the first place. I have also tried every user name and password combo I could think of.
    How can I make it play my songs if it doesn't recognize my user name??
    (I haven't upgraded to 8.1 yet because of all the issues people seem to be having! But I don't think that's an issue because this has been going on for months now.)
    Thanks so much!!
    No suggestions? Anyone? PLLLLEEEEASSSEE....:)
    Thank you!
  • Audio authorization trouble when adding audio to slideshow
    I recently started a slideshow on iDVD '08, which by the way is AMAZING, except when I try to drag and drop a purchased audio file from the media browser 2 the editing window, it asks me to authorize the file through iTunes. Thing is, I've authorized my entire music library already, so what gives? I authorize the song file, try to play it in the slideshow, but I get the same message asking me to authorize the song file, again! Help!
    Seems to be a recent bug that is effecting many people. The short term work around until Apple fixes the issue is to put your purchased songs in a playlist, burn that playlist out to an Audio CD (a CD-RW might be good for this if you need to do it often), then re-import the song from the burned CD in any format you fish, although AIFF might be best for iDVD use.
  • Why can't I get ADE to authorize?
    Update: as of 7:41AM PST the adobe authorization server(s) for ADE (Adobe Digital Editions) suddenly started working again. No reason, it just came back to life. Now, a scant 10 minutes earlier it was as silent and unresponsive as a dead possum, but that's what I've come to expect from the clay-footed behemoth that Adobe has become.
    Of note, Adobe puts the blame on you the user for 'not being connected to the internet' (silly users). Naturally the problem can;t possibly exist on the Adobe side, no, no. (gasp).
    So, for now ADE is working again, at least for a while. That is until the next time I try to add another borrowed ebook from my library at the university. Wait and see. Wait and see.
    End Transmission.
    Tell me oh masters of the DRM... oh great wizards of the digital
    Why are the ADE authorization servers offline? (because it's not me.) ADE worked, but would not load in a 'book' I borrowed from my university library. The solution suggested de-authorizing ADE then re-authorizing it and now it can't be authorized at all. My adobe ID works (I've tested it and yes, it logs me into the adobe site). I am online and connected to the "internet" (which the error message suggests quite speciously that I am not and I should check that I am...
    The question is, why do adobe's auth. servers go offline / become inaccessible? I really wouldn't care but for the observation that my course work depends on me reading the material which is only accessible now via ADE...
    That message suggests the track is damaged.
    If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
    Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
    Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
  • Installed ADE and got incorrectly with first authorization, now cannot correct this, what next?
    Hi All,
    Here's my issue, I've installed Adobe Digital Editions epub reader. I was doing that first time and there's nothing about multiple accounts that need to have matching the same email address.
    I selected "I want to authorize my computer without an ID". That was first mistake. Then I created myself new Adobe account and erased authorization in ADE. Tried to apply new authorization with my new AdobeID, still error opening the book.
    After investigating and wasting few hours I managed to change the email address associated with AdobeID to match to book vendor HPPress.
    Unregistered ADE and registered with correct email address, the book still doesn't open
    At this stage I was able to install and open the book on another PC, but the first one (PC), even after software re-install doesn't allow me to open the book.
    I've tried to find anything on Adobe website that would allow me to remove the incorrect association but no luck.
    Do you think there is a way to erase authorization of the PC and use the correct one?
    Thanks
    Slav
    Hey Shreya,
    At the first time ADE I tried to authorize pc without AdobeID (as that is overkill, another silly account just for one time use)
    then I downloaded the book first time,
    that didn't work, so I had to create AdobeID, (fist AID was with different email address, which later I corrected, removing and authorizing the pc at each change)
    final test that I've done was:
    remove ADE from my pc,
    remove the ebook from my pc,
    install ADE,
    authorize with AdobeID (correct email),
    download ebook again,
    but still have error
  • Can't download library books to my ADE, v. 3.0 from Mac OS X, with Yosemite download
    i have a Mac OS X 10 w. Yosemite download.  am having trouble downloading library books to ADE, v. 3.0, which i would then like to transfer to my Simple touch Nook.  I noticed that the authorization is for a DRM but the books are ACSM.  should i change the computer authorization and if so, how do i do this?
    Thank you.  I did find a book that i had checked out from the library in the documents file.  however, the book wants to open in iBooks.  i want the book to go to my Simple Touch Nook and i thought that i could only do that through ADE, v. 3, which i have downloaded (several times).  however i can’t get the library books to download or go to ADE anymore.  I reauthorized the computer, using  an Overdrive authorization, but i still can’t get books to download to ADE.  i believe that before all this trouble, i had an ADE authorization.  I was wondering if i should de-authorize the computer (but don’t know how to do that) and re-insert an ADE authorization.  (but of course i don’t really know how to do that either).  i have spent so much time one this matter that i can’t remember what i’ve done.  Nook and Apple say that this is an ADE problem, and i have reviewed the discussions in the Forums, but so far i haven’t found anything exactly on point — or perhaps i just don’t recognize an answer that is staring me in the face.
