ADE doesn't show an icon for ,my KOBO ereader.  I followed ADE's instructions, as well as the helpsite on KOBO.com.  How can I get ADE to recognize my ereader to get the correct prompt to download my library books.  I've been trying since Christmas to get this thing to work.  Please help!

  • I had to reinstall ADE on another computer.  Now it doesn't recognize my Sony eReader

I had to reinstall ADE on another computer.  Now it doesn't recognize my Sony eReader.  How do I get it to recognize it?  Do I need to "unauthorize" my ADE id on the 1st device?  Is that the problem?  How the hell do you talk to a live body at Adobe?  This is ridiculous.

Hello -  the chat service for ADE helped me find an answer.  With Sony ereaders, you always need to have the Sony reader app installed on the same machine as ADE.  There are some drivers installed with the Sony reader app that are needed.  Since I did that, ADE now acknowledges my Sony PRS-350.
    Here is a link:  https://ebookstore.sony.com/download/
The chat line was very helpful with this; they tell me you cannot call in to get ADE support -  you can only use the chat box.

    YEAY!
I just got the solution (that worked for me, anyway) from a Sony support rep. No PC or VMWare needed.
OK, you've installed Sony eBook Library v3, and Adobe Digital editions, you've set up your acocunts and authorized your computer on both of them, and you've authorized your Reader with the Sony Library application.
You go to the public library ebook download page, either through the Sony Library or just through a bookmark.
You check out a book, and open it in Adobe Digital Editions, which still won't recognize your Reader.
BUT, in the Sony Library app, you can now click "File, Import.." and go find the pdf you downloaded with the Adobe app.
On my Mac, it was in ~/Documents/Digital Editions
Import it, and drag it to your Reader.
The first time you do this, it will ask you to authorize the Reader with your Adobe ID.
    Worked like a charm.

  • Can't download library books to my ADE, v. 3.0 from Mac OS X, with Yosemite download

i have a Mac OS X 10 w. Yosemite download.  am having trouble downloading library books to ADE, v. 3.0, which i would then like to transfer to my Simple touch Nook.  I noticed that the authorization is for a DRM but the books are ACSM.  should i change the computer authorization and if so, how do i do this?

Thank you.  I did find a book that i had checked out from the library in the documents file.  however, the book wants to open in iBooks.  i want the book to go to my Simple Touch Nook and i thought that i could only do that through ADE, v. 3, which i have downloaded (several times).  however i can’t get the library books to download or go to ADE anymore.  I reauthorized the computer, using  an Overdrive authorization, but i still can’t get books to download to ADE.  i believe that before all this trouble, i had an ADE authorization.  I was wondering if i should de-authorize the computer (but don’t know how to do that) and re-insert an ADE authorization.  (but of course i don’t really know how to do that either).  i have spent so much time one this matter that i can’t remember what i’ve done.  Nook and Apple say that this is an ADE problem, and i have reviewed the discussions in the Forums, but so far i haven’t found anything exactly on point — or perhaps i just don’t recognize an answer that is staring me in the face.

  • I am unable to open my downloaded library books in ADE.  I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and want

I am unable to open my downloaded library books in ADE.  I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and want to transfer the books to a Kobo reader.  Was able to load books perfectly until recently.  I have tried trashing ADE and re-installing but have received the message that the version of ADE will not run with my current operating system.  Tried resetting the Kobo reader and thought maybe it was not authorized but it appears in ADE when I plug it in.  Any help would be greatly appreciated - getting very frustrated!

You nshould ask in the Digital Editions forum,

  • I'm using ADE with a Mac and have successfully downloaded library books for a few years; suddenly today the books are downloading to the Finder but do not show up in ADE so that they can be put on my Nook.

Is anyone suddenly having trouble using Adobe Digital Editions on a Mac to download library books?  I have been using this to load books on to my Nook and suddenly, out of nowhere, everything is downloading to the Finder app.  ADE pops up like it always has when I download from the library website, but the book does not show up there.
    Has something changed?

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

  • ADE doesn't recognize second eReader

My sister bought a Kobo eReader a few months ago, but due to an old Mac OS on her computer she was having difficulty registering her Kobo.  I downloaded the Kobo software to my computer so she could register.  She registered her Kobo with her username and I set up the ADE on my computer with my own Adobe ID and also copied ADE to her computer.  Because she didn't have the Kobo software set up on her computer, the ADE on her computer (in my name with my ID) wasn't recognizing her eReader when she plugged it in. In order to get things to work, we simply plugged her Kobo into my computer and she could use my computer's ADE to transfer borrowed library books to her Kobo.  Everything worked fine.
Now I have a Kobo eReader that I would like to authorize to my ADE as well, but even though I've registered my Kobo with my own username (the same as my Adobe ID), which is different from her Kobo registration username, when I plug my Kobo in and open ADE, the Kobo eReader appears as a recognized device, but it is showing the contents that have been copied to her Kobo, not mine.  Instead of recognizing my reader as a different one, ADE seems to 'think' it's her Kobo (I can see the copies of the books that have been copied to her Kobo, but see only the thumbnails and they cannot be opened).  If I try copying books from my ADE library to my new Kobo, which is currently empty, I get a message thata the book I'm trying to copy is already there.  If I choose to make a duplicate I then see the thumbnail twice under the Kobo bookshelf, but when I eject my Kobo, no files have been copied.
One of the things I've gleaned from this forum is that when we register the devices with Kobo, each device should get some sort of identifying files that are then used when authorizing by ADE.  If this is the case, each of the Kobo eReaders should have unique information identifying them, but is there a way to 'tell' the computer which one is which and to get authorization to use the new Kobo with my Adobe ID?  Any advice for how to get the two readers set up and working with ADE would be appreciated.  I'm not trying to copy purchased books from one eReader to the other (I understand the restrictions in this case), but rather to copy borrowed library books to each Kobo.  The permissions from the library allow the books to be transferred to more than one device.

    Update:
After speaking with someone from Kobo Help Line, we ended up deauthorizing my Kobo eReader (Command + Shift + e) even though it hadn't actually been authorized.  I plugged the Kobo in, opened ADE and the authorization window appeared allowing me to authorize my device.  Oddly enough, my empty Kobo was still showing the thumbnails from books copied to my sister's Kobo, so when I copied the library book from my borrowed bookshelf to my eReader bookshelf I got a pop-up saying the file already existed at that location (even though there wasn't a file there) and asked if I wanted to skip, replace or duplicate the file.  I chose to duplicate the file and it showed up fine in my Kobo.

  • My computer came back from apple, the computer doesn't recognize the hard drive, or let me login, what's wrong with it?

    It doesn't recognize me

I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them  the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

  • ADE 2.0 stopped working (won't download library books to ADE on Windows computer for Kobo

I've used ADE to download e-books from my public library onto my Kobo for over a year now but for a week now I haven't been able to.  When I open the library book, select 'download' and it opens  ADE but it is a totally blank page (there should be several books there that I have purchased).  It sits on this blank screen for a while and eventually an error message comes up "ADE 2.0 has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solutions is available".
I pinged my local library who suggested that I uninstall ADE and reinstall it.  I did that and nothing changed.  I waited 24 hrs and tried again. Still no change.  I've also removed my computer authorization (ADE-Help-Contr Shift d) and reauthorized.  Still can't load a book.
    Any suggestions???

There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).
Some of them just appear like that for no obvious reason on previously working systems.
Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

  • ADE on MacBook crashes when opening downloaded library book.  Any fix?

I just downloaded ADE on my MacBook Pro, then downloaded a book from the library.  The book downloads every time I open ADE.  Then, when clicking on the book, ADE quits.  It is supposed to add it to a list to "READ", but this doesn't happen.  Any solutions?@

Follow-up... it turns out this problem was caused by a corrupted e-book file.  The test is to download another e-book, then try to open it.  At my librarian's suggestion, I tried this and it worked.  They will try to fix their broken e-book file.

  • My answer to Error Message 2038 when trying to download library books to ADE/NOOK

I found my solution! I previously posted a "Help" on the forum because I could not get my public library books to download to ADE. I kept getting an error message #2038 stating to check my network connectivity. Well, not being a techie, I didn't even know what that meant....and the search began. After MANY excrutiating hours, I found the simple answer for my particular trouble.
First, please indulge me why I whine.... I checked my firewall by funbling my way through my computer and trying to download to ADE without it being turned on, not my problem. My virus protection, not the problem. I copy and pasted folders as suggested in some forums and totally messed them all up. I had to delete them from my PC and have Nook help me reset my nook to factory settings and reauthorize my Nook.  What a MESS! I uninstalled and reinstalled ADE checking out my ID, etc. I spoke with the public library and tried their solutions....nada. I TRIED to speak with ADE but they informed me Digital Editions is a free software so I couldn't even PAY a techie to speak to me and had to use these forums. Nook advised me that the problem was not Nook related and they were NOOK TECHIES not computer techies so maybe I should check with ADE. ON AND ON around the merry go round.
Finally, here was my problem and answer. I did not know what a "proxy" was. I kept being told to check my "proxie server". I don't know if this will work for anyone else but here was my simple answer. I have a satellite internet service provider. I called them, and although they told me this was not within their scope of service, they helped me. I went onto Internet Exployer, I clicked on Tools. I clicked on Internet Options, I clicked on the connections tab, I click on the LAN settings and there was a number in my "proxy server" box. I recognized this number as being the same number listed for my satellite provider (Hughes Net). I called them and told them my problem and asked if that number SHOULD be in my proxy box. They had me delte the number and click on "automatically detect settings" instead. They then had me make sure my internet could still surf the internet correctly by having me go into "graphi-heavy" sites like Facebook.com and CNN.com. My internet worked great as ever. I then went to the public library web site and checked out a book. ADE came up and instantly downloaded the book. I was able to drag and drop the book to my Nook icon and it appeared in my Nook. I can now check out free public library books, which is the whole reason WHY I purchased the Nook and not the Kindle!!!!
I was told this proxy setting was not "wrong" just speaking a language that ADE could not translate....so to speak.
Yeah!!!!!! I hope if anyone else has this problem, you will find this posting to be your easy answer......because it has not been easy to find this information out.  There is noone out there to help you but these forums!!!! The one fall-back to the NOOK is that they are NOT prepared to help you resolve any compatibility problems. THEY ONLY KNOW HOW TO OPERATE THE NOOK, they aren't computer Techies. NOOK is great, but if they want to be #1 they are going to have to beef up their Support Network with qualified computer/Nook techies.

    Hooray!!!

  • ADE doesn't recognize Sony Reader in Mac OS 10.5 after Sony EBL 3.0 update

I've got a PRS-505, and I just put Sony eBook Library 3.0 on my Mac laptop running Leopard 10.5, but Adobe Digital Editions still won't recognize the Reader when I plug it in.
I've tried deauthorizing the computer and the device, and reinstalling ADE. The Reader works with eBook Library, and it still works with ADE on my old Windows machine.
But, whenever I plug in my Reader on the Mac, it gets recognized by EBL but not ADE. Nothing happens in ADE.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • ADE doesn't recognize my ipad in the library

Both my computer and my ipad mini are authorized with my Adobe ID, and I'm connecting the ipad before opening ADE, but the ipad doesn't show up in the library to let me transfer a book.  What am I doing wrong?

I'm using the Overdrive app, and their help pages indicate that I can then use Digital Editions to transfer.  This is what I'm looking at:  http://help.overdrive.com/article/0005/How-to-transfer-eBooks-to-an-eBook-reader-using-Ado be-Digital-Editions
I connect the ipad, then open ADE as instructed, but nothing appears under "devices:
I notice the line that says Note: If you don't see your device, you may need to install some additional software. Please check your eBook reader's documentation for more information.  However, I can't find any reference to "additional software" in Overdrive or ADE help files or web pages.
I'm not itunes savvy, and I don't know how to transfer book files using itunes.
