ADE error: "Document is licensed for a different user account"

My ADE worked great for months. All of a sudden it will not let me add books to it's library. When I try to add a book (Epub w/DRM) it tells me "Document is licensed for a different user account." What changed? What is my problem?

You're going to have to answer the question yourself, unfortunately.  I can
explain what the message means, but I can't do the detective work to see
what happened in the past.
This message is generated when the information attached to the
document/ebook shows that "User A" downloaded it to his/her copy of Digital
Editions is different from what's in place at this time.  There are a number
of things that could have happened, but right now, "User B" is trying to
download that document/ebook.
There's no easy fix - especially if the document/ebook is DRM-protected, as
many of the ones we buy are.  Once you find out who did what, then you could
contact the source and see if they'll work with you to get another copy
downloaded to your copy of Digital Editions.

    Hi,
In order to fix this you need to contact B&N support and ask them to reset download link of the books and then download same book once again.

  • Document is licensed for a different user account - After Registering

I get the above message after downloading my eBooks directly to Adobe Digital editions. To start with I did not register the Adobe software to my AdobeID and could read the eBooks but after registering the Adobe software the eBooks are now unreadable and the message 'Document is licensed for a different user account' appears. I'm quite tech savvy but this is very frustrating after having spent £32 on books that I cannot now read legitimately!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!? Thank you!

I've logged into Adobe with my new password but now ADE says ''No permission to copy document here''

  • E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACTIVATIONS and Document is licensed for a different user account

Thus far Adobe Digital Editions is the most complicated software to use in the universe- and I feel it may be the downfall of the entire E READER's existence.
    Here's why:
1.) I created an account with adobe digital editions.
2.) I purchased ebooks from Barnes and Nobles. com. These books are in EPUB format.
3.) I downloaded said books from Barnes and Nobles .com to my PC. (windows XP)
4.) I tried to open said files with ADE to transfer on my EREADER. No luck. I receive an error message stating that these files  are " Licensed under a different user account." Then I get the error "Too many activations)
How are they licensed under a different user account?! I am the only user. Can someone please help me? I just want to move these two EPUB files into Adobe Digital Editions so that I may put them on my COOL-ER Reader.

    Hello Wjcawley,
For the error E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACTIVATIONS, I recommend creating a webcase. They have the option to reset your activations for this.
Concerning the error that it is already licensed to another user, make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your COOL-ER reader. As some have been shipped with incorrectly configured firmware.
    Hope this helps.
    Kind regards,
    SyncWolf

  • Document is licensed for a different user account

I have read your documentation and didn't see a solution for us, we have 2 nooks and only one computer, how can Adobe digital Editions keep these separate?
    Thanks.

In Windows/XP, I found that the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the Start bar (Task Bar) did nothing.  My Nook continued to display "USB mode."  Only when I used the "eject" function did the Nook come out of USB mode.  (By "eject" I mean locating the Nook drive in the Windows file management interface --e.g., My Computer, right-clicking the drive, and selecting the "Eject" option.)  Why this should be I don't know, but I found a sentence in the Nook User Guide that explicitly warns everyone to use the "Eject" function and not the "Safely Remove" function to disconnect.  Further, it says if you have installed the microSD card, it will show up as an additional "drive," and you have to use "Eject" for both.
I also use "Safely Remove" just for good measure, but only after the "Eject"(s).

  • Ebook licensed to a different user account?

I have a problem with using Adobe Digital Editions to download some free eBooks from Borders.com to my Sony PRS-300 Reader.  When I select any of these problem eBooks within ADE, and click on "Item Errors", I see the message, "Document  is licensed to a different user account."  There is also an exclamation point embedded in a brown triangle next to each of these problem books and I don't know what that means.  I would appreciate any advice on how to resolve this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

I have the exact same problem. I purchased a new ebook from ebook.com. During the download I was prompted to update my Digital Editions to version 1.7. I followed the instructions and while at the Adobe site, I had to create an Abode ID for authorization. I did that, then continued to complete the installation process. The installation was successful and I was able to download the ebook and start reading it. I then decided to read some of my previously purchased books in my Library and they ALL showed error with the following error message:
Document is licensed for a different user account
I have more then 10 books that I now can not access since I did the upgrade. Please provide a solution to this problem.
    Mac OS X Version 10.5.6

  • Book is Licensed to a Different User Account - AUTHORIZATION PROBLEM

Getting the error message... Document is Licensed to a different user Account after I authorized ADE (which prompted me to do after using the software for several months).  So I have already de-authorized and still getting message.  I am using Snow Leopard on a Mac.  Many of the books are from school downloads.  What is the fix?... very frustrated as I am trying to do homework.

Opening the WebCase turned out to be good advice (I think), although I can't be sure to what extent it was responsible for what happened. I received a form-type letter from Adobe by email. It contained instructions which I was unable to comply with fully in the order presented, but I carried out those steps which were possible, de-authorizing with Cmd-Shift-D the old version of Digital Editions (which I had previously restored without solving the problem). I then opted to Upgrade once more next time I started DE. (under Macintosh OS X 10.4 BTW). Everything went smoothly. It didn't ask for my AdobeID nor require that I authorize the newly installed version manually this time. (On my first attempt it had left me with no option but to start a new AdobeID since the online component refused to recognize my email address. The new (and apparently different) ID is what made it incompatible with my ebooks).
I do know by now that my original problem was caused by not knowing the original AdobeID (if indeed I was ever issued with one). I still can't find it, but at least I am no worse off than I was before upgrading. I am not sure if my new AdobeID will work if I ever try to upgrade again, but at least I now know what the problem is and how to fix it if it doesn't.
My advice to others experiencing similar problems: Remain positive. Don't give up. There is good relevant advice in thread "Error: document licensed for a different user account" (IIRC). Start your own Web Case if you reach a dead end.

  • Multiple iTunes 8 for 2 different user accounts on one Mac: Possible?

    Hi,
My MacPro has 2 different user accounts on it. Mine and my wife's. I have all of the iTunes music, pod-casts and iPhone Apps set up in iTunes 8 on my user account. The problem is that I want to be able to sync our iPhone 3G which she uses in HER account so that I can sync and save her 3G address Books contacts and calendar events.
I just updated my iPhone's firmware from V2.0 to V2.1 and I backed the phone up in iTunes 8 first. Much to my surprise ALL contact and calendar data was LOST. Am I correct in thinking that the only way of preventing this is by also having this data on my MacPro's iCal and Address Book?
We only use this single iPhone.

  • Can I use different colours for the different user accounts in my iCal?

I have my own iCal and one for my boss. I need our appointments to show up in different colours so that I can tell at a glance which are mine and which are his. Currently our appointments show up on the same calendar, on top of each other, and both are coloured red.
Can I change the colour of one of us?

Thanks. If there are other people invited to the appointment it comes up with this
So I don't want to 'move' it or cancel the original appointment. is there another way I can, for example, have my boss's appointments all come up green and mine all come up blue......

  • ERROR: DOCUMENT IS LICENSED....

I was forced to re-download ADE 1.2 after about a month. I also had to use a new Adobe ID to authorize the thing (it had lost my old account or something, which was weird, because I don't use any other Adobe products that require an ID). Now, I can't open any of my ebooks, due to an error that says "DOCUMENT IS LICENSED FOR DIFFERENT USER ACCOUNT"
I'm using a Windows XP system on a Dell IBM laptop and I have no idea how much RAM is in it (whatever RAM means-I'm horribly technophobic). Please, someone, take pity on me and explain what I did wrong as well as how to fix it before I rip all my hair out. And if I rip out all my hair, then what reason do I have for living?

Well, honestly I'm not sure we can do it that quickly considering the behavior. However, it's important that we get support cases for these issues, for a number of reasons. Having an actual case with a case number helps guarantee our accountability, and let us work with an escalation procedure. If you could post back your case # I can bring it up in our support meeting tomorrow, perhaps we can make some progress.

  • Error 150:30, "Licensing for this product has stopped working"

I recently updated my Mac OS, and am getting error 150:30, "Licensing for this product has stopped working" on all my CS4 products. The license repair tool will not launch in Mavericks. Help?

CS4 is completely unsupported under Mavericks and using an upgraded
operating system is nothing short of a crapshoot.
