ADE on Mac -- how to uninstall?

Hi,
I was trying to get my ADE to recognize that I had a new license for an ebook I checked out from the library. And, with one thing and another, I must have done something which displeased ADE. (Whether it was me looking at an xml file to see what it was and changing permissions on it, or moving a book to the trash, or something, dunno.)
I *think* just maybe a full uninstall and re-install would reset everything to where I can open my .acsm files again and see books I've checked out. I tried dragging ADE from Applications into the Trash. Then downloading fresh from the site. But, I still have the same problem.
Can someone tell me where *everything* lives for ADE on Mac OSX, so I can wipe all of its files out? Then a fresh install, and download my books that I've checked out from the library, and I'm back to happy.
I know about the Package that lives in /Applications. And the storage of files that lives in ~/Documents/Digital Editions. Is there any place else where there's a little xml file lingering that I should know about? I want ADE to think it's never been here before and Just Work again.
Thanks,
SarahD

As a note, I did move my current ~/Documents/Digital Editions folder out of the way, and downloaded a new check-out, and it came in just fine. Then I tried to re-download the "troublesome" book. And I got this error message --
Franklin & Lucy:
No record for this loan is found on this machine, it may have been returned
Now, I had the book checked out. And then it expired, so I deleted the book. And I checked it out again, and every time I try to download, I get this error message. How do I convince ADE that it's never seen this checkout before?
Thanks,
SarahD

It would be easier to just fix whatever is making your machine slow.
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.

  • How to uninstall on Mac for customUpdateUI and disable Updater.update()?

    Hi there,
I am getting a strange behavior on the Mac and see if anyone
    has similar issue.
    First, I deployed a
"version 1" application and installed on the machine with
customeUpdateUI=true, when the app install, it will attempt
    to update using
    Updater.update() in the following manner,
    quote:
    private function runUpdate(updatePath:String):Boolean {
    if (!updatePath)
    return false;
    var file:File = new File(updatePath);
    if (!file || !file.exists)
    return false;
    var updater:Updater = new Updater();
    updater.update(file, "version 2");
    return true;
Then I repeat the step above for
"version 2" and everything is working great. The update is
working fine on Windows and on Mac. (This code is for demo only, I
didn't hardcode the version # in the app. ;)
The problem I have is re-install.
On Windows, if you uninstall "version 1", then install
    "version 2", works great
    On a
Mac, if you uninstall "version 1", then install "version 2"
fails, error message for "version mismatch".
It seems there is still something left behind on the Mac when
uninstall the app, such that when I launch "version 2" install, it
is still attempting to run update from the local installed app,
rather than the update from the new installed .air file.
Anyone have similar issue? How to uninstall an AIR app on the
Mac? Do I just trash the App directory, or do I need to perform
    additional clean up?
Besides trashing the app directory, I also tried to delete
anything suggest to me is Adobe AIR related info, including,
    /User/Library/App Support/Adobe
    /User/Library/Preferences
    /Library/App Support/Adobe
Please don't hesitate to let me know if anything I can
    provide to identify this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
OS: Mac OS X and Tiger

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
The case is on the Mac, suppose my app is call myApp.air
    1. Run myApp.air, install version 1, works great
    2. Make a new myApp.air, name it version 2.
    3. Run myApp.air, upgrade version 1 to version 2, works
    great.
    4. Uninstall version 2 by delete the installation folder. For
example, if I install on /Users/MyApp, delete the folder and empty
    trash.
    5. Install version 2 myApp.jar, error message complains
    version mismatch.
On windows, I can uninstall from Control Panel. On the Mac, I
don't know how I should remove an AIR app, and so I just went ahead
and delete the app install folder.
Thanks in advance! Really appreciate your assistance.

  • How to uninstall Virtual PC from mac Lion?

    Hi,
I installed a Virtual PC (7 version) machine on my mac system yesterday but I found it cannot work because the compatible issue, my system is OS X mountain lion. It is always saying "Power PC applications are no longer supported". Now what I want is just uninstall Virtual PC from my mac and I do not want to bother using it. Because what bothers me is that the panel show in the Finder is not like previously shown. There are not the left favoraties column shown any more. I cannot go to the right folder to see files and it create so big trouble! I just want everything back. Another thing is that everytime when it starts up, there will be a box pop up saying like "the virtual machine cannot start up because the setting is not right" things like this. I guess the Virtual PC disorder some settings in OS X system.
So I only want to unistall this Virtual PC. I guess it can not be remove by just simpy delete the icon in applciations, am I right? I find the "Uninstal Virtual PC" icon in the dmg package, but when I dounble click it, it also shows "You can't open the application "Uninstal Virtual PC" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported"! which drives me crazy. Does anyone know about how to uninstall Virtual PC from mac for this situation? I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Amanda

I just followed the instructions and clicked contunue.  I guess I just finished part 1, the installing part. The details are:
    section 1: installing virtual PC
section 2: setting up virtual PC
    section 3: setting up windows
In Section 1 you will install the Virtual PC for Mac application and supporting files. You will need to restart your computer at the end of Section 1.
Section 2 covers personalizing Virtual PC for Mac and the installation of Windows.
In Section 3, you will configure Windows."
I clicked continue to let it install (section 1). After that, Mac restarted and it never asked me to set up virtual PC. All the problems aboved mentioned came up afterwards.
    Did I do anything wrong?
    Thanks.

A little late to the game, but .sit files are Stuffit files as developed by http://www.stuffit.com/ Apple used to use this compression format, but does no longer, and no longer includes the free Stuffit Expander program made by Stuffit.com. If you need to extract an old .sit uninstaller, get it from Stuffit.com. And also any company making such a program for Mac OS X should seriously consider upgrading their downloads to be .dmg.zip files instead, which are more easy to extract on Mac OS X without downloading extra software.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
In Mac OS X, it's easy to uninstall apps. Most of the apps can be uninstalled just dragging them to the Trash. However, some apps come with an uninstaller, and in this case, you have to use the uninstaller. That's because some apps have got files in other folders, and if you just drag the app to the Trash, these files will stay there and they will take space

You will need to erase the hard drive and restore your previous OS X backup. If you have no backup then you can reinstall a previous version of OS X. if you have a 2011 or later model check that it meets: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. Then you can do the following:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If you have a model that pre-dates this that can do the above, then:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • How to uninstall application in mac?

how to uninstall application in mac?

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind 4.9, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper 2.0.1
    AppDelete 3.2.6
    Automaton 1.50
    Hazel
    AppCleaner 2.1.0
    CleanApp
    iTrash 1.8.2
    Amnesia
    Uninstaller 1.15.1
    Spring Cleaning 11.0.1
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • How to uninstall Tuneup my mac?

    Hi,
Did a search on this site and found a post on how to uninstall Tuneup my mac by
    1) Opening tuneup in launch pad
    2)  clicking on help
    3)  clicking on uninstall
    Easy right?
well it seems like the good folks at tuneup my mac have now removed the uninstall option from the help menu....
I never wanted this program, it got installed in my macbook when I went on a binge of installing free  music Synthesizer Apps, I have no idea which one of the apps snuck it through and just one look at Tuneup My Mac tells me it's a malware program, at worst, or at the very least least a pest of a program that is potentially harmful.  I am loathe to even capitalize the name of the thing.... hahahha.
I'm not a complete newbie when it comes to computers but I am to Apple and that said I don't understand code at this point, I mostly use computers as music creation tools working with preexisting programs.
I will apologize now if this thread has already been discussed here, as i said my search led me to a thread offering a solution that since seems to have been circumvented by the lovely people at tuneup.
    Any feedback would be welcome,
    Thank you.

If you first installed it from Cnet or Softonic you have a necessary, though unpleasant lesson to swallow.   Never install anything from either of these sites which are well known to inject all sorts of nasties into your download.

I don't think this will fix your problem with restoring your iPhone 4 though. That is likely a seperate issue.
but i can do it with any windows?
Yes, you can theoretically restore your iPhone with any computer running the most current version of iTunes (10.6.3) unless there is some other issue.
    I get error code(21)
According to this support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error21:
"These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service."
Do you run any anti-virus or third-party firewalls on your computer? Try disabling them and trying the restore process again. It may be possible that one of these security applications is interfering with the iPhone's ability to authenticate with Apple's servers.

  • How to uninstall programs on Mac OSX

I just switched from PC to Mac, and I have no idea how to uninstall programs.
Im thinking you just drag the app to the trashcan, but does that remove all the files, or is there another way?

    Hello,
Preference files (.plist) are left in
~/Library/Preferences if you want clean those out too
(I dont like anything left over). Sometimes other
Yes, some people don't like the slightest trace left behind. But, for the novice user, the PLIST files are not a big deal. They don't take-up much space, and are not worth accidentally deleting the wrong file for a novice.
files are left (cache folders and application
folders) that need to be removed too.
Fortunately, that is done quite easily by running maintenance programs like OnyX that clear out the caches:
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html
I used to do it all manually (using spotlight
    search), but recently found AppZapper
(http://appzapper.com/) and use that. Worth every
penny and does a great job clearly everything out.
Never used that program. It sounds convenient. But, I'm a bit cheap. I won't pay for anything I can do for free
But moving the program to the trash does "uninstall"
the program. However some large ones (like Adobe
Photoshop and Dreamweaver) install things all over
your system, so just deleting them from Applications
    wont remove everything.
Yes, there is the occasional program like that. I'm happy to say that they are the minority. I don't like programs that scatter stuff about.

  • Where is the webpage that tells you how to uninstall Firefox on the Mac?

I installed FF 4 on my Mac just to discover that I could not run Google Gears on it. So I need to uninstall FF4 and install FF 3.6. I searched for a page and to tell me how to do this an found one at http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Uninstalling%20Firefox. After doing part of the process and removing FF4 but not the profile I went back to this page in Safari. But not the instructions change and it is telling me how to uninstall on a PC. So how do I find the Mac uninstall page when FF is not installed on my Mac.

It goes by you useragent to tey and serve a page based on it. To get another OS or Firefox version just look at the right of articles where it says '''Help with:''' and click on the OS and Firefox to change accordingly.
I use Firefox on Linux so it serves me a page for Linux users yet I may want to sometimes change it for Windows when helping Windows users.
