ADF BC: create is very slow

Hi
I have the following scenario:
An ADF BC application against a Oracle10g DB, aprox 30.000 rows in the DB.
The client is using uix.
The server is a standalone OC4J on linux. It has 512M RAM.
When I want to create a new record via the browser, it is very very slow (20-40 sec.) I'm using the 'immidiate' update mode. However the search facility is fast, even if I lookup all the (30.000)rows. I use the same view object for both.
Any ideas why the create function is slow, please.

  • Why reports created in 8.5 and saved in XI.5 are very slow?

    Hello,
    Here is my problem :
I worked with Crystal Report 8.5 and my reports were speedy.
I saved a report in a new version (Crystal XI.5) and the report generation is very slow.
If i saved the same report (saved in 8.5) in the version XI (not the XI.5) the report is speedy.
If i saved the report from XI.5 to XI there is no change (report slow).
Have you ever seen this problem?
The database used is Advantage Database Server 8.1.0.26
    Thanks for the help.
    Mickael

    Hi Mariusz,
It is expected that the reports will run a bit slow in the newer version as the entire report engine has undergone chnage after version 8.5.
With the new version, the database security has been enforced a lot more as compared to version 8.5. Along with this, the SQL generation process has also undergone change and the SQL which is now generated is much more optimized.
Also, there are a lot of new features in terms of formatting the report, which can cause the delay in showing you the first page of the report. It may not just be the database access that is taking time.
As suggested earlier, if you find the query generated in 8.5 was fetching records faster, you can surely create a command object in XI R2 to check if you get the same speed of data retrival.

  • Creating ImageIcon from Image is very slow

Hi I have a program which reads a number of files which may contain (amongst other things) image data in various formats such as JPG.I read scale this down into an image object fine, and then I want to display a small version of it on screen so I put the scale dimage into an ImageIcon which i display later using a JLabel.
Anyway it runs very slow , the funny thing is using JProbe Ive tracked the problem down to creation of the ImageIcon constructor, the actual thumbnail image creation is very quick.
Why does ImageIcon take so long or is there a simple way of displaying the image in a Swing Application
    without using JLabel.
    BufferedImage bi = ImageIO.read(new DataInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(imageData)));
    Image thumbnaiImage = image.getScaledInstance(20,20Image.SCALE_FAST);
    ImageIcon thumbnail     = new ImageIcon(thumbnailImage);

If you're not too picky about the image quality (and I see you're using SCALE_FAST), you can set the
source subsampling on your ImageReadParam so that you never construct the large image: you start
    with the thumbnail.

    Hello,
did you discover what the cause was for this phase running so slow? And  how long did it take to complete in the end?
We are currently running an upgrade of our Development system and have struck the same issue.
I killed the upgrade after the phase had been running for 4 hours and restarted it, but it looks like it is still going to run for a long time.

  • Application ADF load very slow

    Dear all.
My team build a backup server for oracle portal and oracle center content version 11.1.1.6.
I restored UCM server normal, configuration and index.
But application load very slow, 2 minutes. In original server is 15 second.
I see log when i restore error in index. Indexing database too slow 4-5h.
I expdp normal with no error
Does anyone kind to help me to solve this? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion.

I use iSquint to compress the video. Have a look at this site to see my dv project that was 286mb original size, compressed down to 4.8mb. http://web.mac.com/lfairlie/iWeb/Site%204/Welcome.html
You can play with the size it compresses to quality wise as well.

  • Oracle Forms Performance very slow on the internet

    Hi ,
We have developed a form application with forms Developer 10g and deployed it on a ORACLE 10g AS. If the user runs our application over intranet there is no any network problem or not any performance decrease occurs. However if we deploy our application over WAN or internet, the startup time of the forms become Very Slow.
What we can use to make it faster , is there any other tools we have to learn like APEX or JDeveloper , what is the best solution , should we forget the Developer for ever and starting with other tools with fast performance on the internet , if so , what we have to learn , please help us , its common problem .
    any help please ,

    Interesting thread....
You asked whether "Forms" is the right product for the job. Well, the answer to that question will depend entirely on exactly what functionality you need and your skill-set. One advantage of using Forms over other Oracle products is that, in my opinion, Forms allows you to create simple or complex applications very quickly, with limited development experience. The downside to using Forms however, is that it does use a fairly thick client making startup slower than other applications. Generally, Forms is not very well suited for Internet deployments although it can and has been done. If your goal is to use a product which is easy to work with and is appropriate for Internet deployment, you may want to consider Apex. The downside to Apex is that unlike Forms, Apex generates what I like to call static html pages. Meaning once a page is displayed for the end-user, the data on it remains the same until the user forces interaction with the server again, but in this case the entire page would be refreshed in order to realize the changes. In the case of Forms, any content displayed to the end-user can be change without completely refreshing their view. I like to refer to Forms as a living application because unlike Apex, it can easily respond to most user inputs and/or server side changes almost in real-time. If you want this "live" experience, Forms might be the way to go, although at the cost of some startup performance. Alternatively, Oracle ADF can also give you a similar live-like experience. However, ADF will require a broader skill-set (pl/sql, java, html, etc), whereas with Forms you could get away with only knowing pl/sql although java knowledge would be helpful.
The views expressed in this thread are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Oracle.

  • Stopping IntegratedWebLogicServer very slow with BEA-000449 messages

    hi
When stopping an application or the IntegratedWebLogicServer in JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0, so involving undeploying an application, I got BEA-000449 messages, while the stopping is very slow and takes a lot of time:
    ... ----  Deployment started.  ----
... Target platform is  (Weblogic 10.3).
... <Warning> <Socket> <BEA-000449> <Closing socket as no data read from it on 127.0.0.1:50,255 during the configured idle timeout of 5 secs>
    ... Undeploying Application...
    ... Application Undeployed Successfully.
... <Warning> <Socket> <BEA-000449> <Closing socket as no data read from it on 127.0.0.1:50,298 during the configured idle timeout of 5 secs>
... Elapsed time for deployment:  9 minutes, 3 seconds
... ----  Deployment finished.  ----There seem to be no "BEA-" prefixed messages in the "Oracle® Fusion Middleware Error Messages Reference 11g Release 1 (11.1.1) Part Number E10113-04"
    at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/core.1111/e10113/toc.htm
But I found "Socket Subsystem Messages" ...
    at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/messages/Socket.html
    ... documenting BEA-000449 as
"Warning : Closing socket as no data read from it during the configured idle timeout of idleTimeout secs
Description : Closing socket as no data read from it during the configured idle timeout of idleTimeout secs
Cause : The WebLogic Server or the network may be overloaded which is causing the socket to idle timeout.
Action : Capacity tuning of the server is required."
Suggestions for more detailed documentation for BEA-000449 or this "Capacity tuning of the server", specifically for the IntegratedWebLogicServer in JDeveloper, are welcome.
Related to BEA-000449 messages I've found some forum messages by Chris Muir, mentioning bug 9929248
at Re: Jdeveloper 11g undeployment time issue
and at Re: Embedded Weblogic is extremely slow
In service request 3-2760005121 I have asked today if it is possible to publish bug 9929248 in My Oracle Support.
I have also found a forum message by Chris Noonan
at Re: JDev 11.1.1.2.0 is incredibly slow at launching deployment
saying "... I imported some Application Server connections from the previous version of Jdev and that's when the issues started to occur again. I then deleted the imported Application Server connections (besides the integrated connection), and everything worked fine again .."
Although my Application Server connections where not imported but just created in the JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 that I am using, I decided to delete all my Application Server connections from JDeveloper (except the IntegratedWebLogicServer connection) and after that, stopping the IntegratedWebLogicServer was no longer slow, with messages like "Elapsed time for deployment: 1 second" or "Elapsed time for deployment: 2 seconds".
Some experimenting after re-creating an Application Server connection (to a WebLogic domain) suggested that stopping the IntegratedWebLogicServer becomes significantly slower if the host that is configured in an Application Server connection is unreachable over the network. If the host is reachable and only the WebLogic server is down, it seems only seconds slower instead of minutes.
So, removing the Application Server connection or making sure the host is reachable seem to be the workarounds here.
    question:
    - (q1) How can a relationship between a slow IntegratedWebLogicServer (for stopping/undeployment) and (unrelated) Application Server connections in JDeveloper be explained?
Please share your "slow stopping" and BEA-000449 related experience here.
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

    Thanks for your reply Chris.

In the context of service request 3-2760005121 following relevant information was pulished in My Oracle Support:

Was brought up on a PC. I would imagine my system is in  mess. I think i downloaded that Mackeeper which i have just discovered was not a good idea. I found a thread about EtreCheck and it suggested i posted the report of my machine which i have done.I only have 2GB of space. Not sure how much i have left. My wife keeps putting photos on here like they are going out of fashion. Bought the machine in 2008 because everybody said you have a MAC. I've never really got to grips with it but at least it worked. Now it does not run very well at all. That spinning wheel is driving me mad. HELP please, never ever used a forum light this either so please go gentle on me. Cheers Paul

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Mac Mini boots very slow with Mavericks (after security update)

    Hi,
my Mac Mini boots very slow after I've installed Maveriks. I did two clean installs by now, seemed to work OK after the second one but after the latest safety update (2014-002) the boot time is up to 5+ minutes. Starting Safari or other software takes addtional time. See below for system specs, Etrecheck and log. Any ideas what could cause this? According to the update history I did install the security update 2014-002 twice on the same day although I cannot remember doing such a thing.
    Thanks Joerg

  • Snow Leopard - very slow restart / reboot and Boot Camp restart fail

    Hi
After Snow Leopard installation on my Macbook Pro I have a very slow restart. I logged this immediately after install and waited till 10.6.1 was issued and installed but still have the same problems. Hope some one can help.
For an normal restart or reboot I have the grey screen for about 25 secs and then the blue screen hangs for about 2 mins 30 secs before loading desktop. This is longer than Leopard and clearly not what Snow Leopard is meant to be. I have installed on an iMac as well and can see the new normal fast boot.
I also have Windows on it's own partition and use in Boot Camp. I have used this successfully under Leopard.
When I restart from Windows using the Start button and restart, Windows shuts down and then the mac starts up but gets stuck indefinitely on the blue screen. I have waited up to 25 mins then forced a shut down.
However if I restart from Windows using the Boot Camp icon in the taskbar and choose the restart from MacOSX it shuts down windows and restarts the mac in record time!! about 25 secs grey screen and 25 secs blue screen. I can't get this in normal mac mode! - Bizarre.
I have run Disk Utility, repaired permissions, run Tech Tool, Onyx, reset PRAM, deleted startup items plists and removed startup items from System Preferences Account.
I have monitored the Console app for all the startup conditions noted above and will post below. In the logs of the normal mac reboot you can see something to do with Security Agent taking over 2 mins to load. Maybe that is a clue, but I don't understand these messages. Please note that the iStatsmenu app was installed after snow leopard and I had these slow startups before it's installation.
If anyone technical can understand what the **** is going on here I would really appreciate your feedback.
    Regards
    Eric

    Hi guys
Thanks for your contributions. I have made little progress on this issue since posting.
Just as added info, I did a re-install of Snow leopard from install DVD and upgrade again to 10.6.1 and no change to the startup behaviours. Same pattern as before, although the first restart was fast and probably how it is meant to be, then the slow ones reappeared.
I also had a thought that somehow it may be related to the nominated startup disk. There were posts on other boards about similar issues with Leopard where the hanging start was found to be related to the computer not knowing which startup disk to use. I thought maybe as it works when using the boot camp icon from Windows but not the restart button, it may be related, but in OSX and Windows both are set to startup in OSX on HD. So no further joy.
Maybe someone else will come along who can understand the Console logs. Why does the loginwindow and Security Agent take so long?
Do you guys have any clues from your Console system logs? Does yours hang on loginwindow?
The fact that there are so few people with the same problem suggests to me that there is a third party device/preference/ hidden file somewhere that is having an effect and it's not an Apple issue.
I am getting close to wiping the hard drive and starting again....but live in hope.
    Cheers

  • Hi all. When pressed play and make some changes in loop (eg fade in fade out) are very slow to implement, and also the loops from the library are very slow to play, corrects the somewhat self so is the Logic??

hi all. When pressed play and make some changes in loop (eg fade in fade out) are very slow to implement, and also the loops from the library are very slow to play, corrects the somewhat self so is the Logic??

    Hey there Logic Pro21,
It sounds like you are seeing some odd performance issues with Logic Pro X. I recommend these troubleshooting steps specifically from the following article to help troubleshoot what is happening:
    Logic Pro X: Troubleshooting basics
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5859
Verify that your computer meets the system requirements for Logic Pro X
See Logic Pro X Technical Specifications.
Test using the computer's built-in audio hardware
If you use external audio hardware, try setting Logic Pro X to use the built-in audio hardware on your computer. Choose Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio from the main menu and click the Devices tab. Choose the built in audio hardware from the Input Device and Output Device pop-up menus. If the issue is resolved using built-in audio, refer to the manufacturer of your audio interface.
Start Logic with a different project template
Sometimes project files can become damaged, causing unexpected behavior in Logic. If you use a template, damage to the template can cause unexpected results with any project subsequently created from it. To create a completely fresh project choose File > New from Template and select Empty Project in the template selector window. Test to see if the issue is resolved in the new project.
Sometimes, issues with the data in a project can be repaired. Open an affected project and open the Project Information window with the Project Information key command. Click Reorganize Memory to attempt to repair the project. When you reorganize memory, the current project is checked for any signs of damage, structural problems, and unused blocks. If any unused blocks are found, you will be able to remove these, and repair the project. Project memory is also reorganized automatically after saving or opening a project.
    Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
    Restart the computer.
Isolate an issue by using another user account
For more information see Isolating an issue by using another user account.
    Reinstall Logic Pro X
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Logic Pro X. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application, then reinstall Logic Pro X. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Logic Pro X. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Logic Pro X.
In the Finder, choose Applications from the Go menu.
Locate the Logic Pro X application and drag it to the trash.
    Open the Mac App Store
Click the Purchases button in the Mac App Store toolbar.
Sign in to the Mac App Store using the Apple ID you first used to purchase Logic Pro X.
Look for Logic Pro X in the list of purchased applications in the App Store. If you don't see Logic Pro X in the list, make sure it's not hidden. See Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases for more information.
Click Install to download and install Logic Pro X.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

My MBP is working very slow.
I have taken off AVG, and in my user account I've stopped Soundflower from launching automatically. This seemed to help for a few days, then it's back to dragging.
I used Etre; but don't know the items mean...

Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

If it doesn't, press thereturn key.
If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press returnthree times at the password prompt.
In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results.

  • Applet very slow and shows no activity, but its running

I have a new applet for the users, but I am reluctant to implement until I get some others opinions. It is very slow (30 - 40 seconds)
Before it outputs a screen with about 20 lines, it reads 90 different html files. It looks at the forth rec of each to extract a name. It also gets the file size to determine if the record needs to be on the screen.
Anyway, it does 4 reads on 90 files. = 360 reads. Oops, it also reads and loads a 80 record file at the beginning. So total is 440 reads.
It takes 30 - 40 seconds. Which is not horrible, but it is not good. What really bothers me is that the applet screen shows no activity. At the bottom is shows "done" and "100%". Task Manager shows no activity. But if you just let it sit there, it will finally fill the screen. Pretty amazing to me. I would much rather see a "progress bar" moving on the bottom like other screens. Actually, a progress bar would solve it, because the users are not in a big hurry anyway.
I am using "openStream" and "readLine" for the files.
    Any opinions?

But if you just let it sit there, it will finally fill the screen. Pretty amazing to me. The onus is on you, the developer, to decide how to distract your users as they wait for your code to finish. Why should you expect something to do it for you?
I would much rather see a "progress bar" moving on the bottom like other screens.Ah, I think I see where you're confused. The progress bar and applet loading subtitles, etc are Java's way of presenting the progress of loading the applet. Once it's fully loaded, though (which it is when your code starts running), it hands off control to you. It's in your hands at that point.
