However, my initial research indicates that Hyperion Essbase doesn't have a workable way to connect using JDBC (it's not an RDBMS, after all). There is a Java API for connecting to Essbase which you could use, but it doesn't relate to ADF in any way.

I have a ADFS server on-premises. The ADFS server is connected with my SharePoint portal hosted on hostway sharepoint hosting provider. Currently using domain "xyz" for Germany.
Now i want another domain "mno" in France to connect with SharePoint portal hosted on hostway. Do i have to buy another ADFS server or can use the same ADFS I have on-premises?
Is it possible to put a domain controller and manage authentication of both domains xyz, mno but using 1 ADFS server?

Regarding excel connectivity with essbase

Hi Frnds,
I have installed hyperion essbase client(9.3.1) on my pc
When i open a excel its popping up with fallowing error
Microsoft excel has encountered a problem need to close .
Excel experienced a serious error the lat time the addin 'c:\hyperion\analyticservices\bin\essexcln.xll' was opened.I have checked the addin in excel
When i check mark the essexcln iam getting this error
and if iuncheck essexcln and check mark essxleqd iam not getting any error.
What would be the reasons.

two things to check. 1. If you are running Excel 2007 service pack 3, you need to get the latest version of the client install.
The second thing to look at iyour arborpath and path statements to make sure they are correct

FR Connection with Essbase

Hi Gurus,
while creating the report in FR studio , i am getting the below mentioned error.
Failed to connect to server.

I am using 11.1.1.3 env .

most of the connectivity issues get resolved when running the configuration utility.
Can you try running the configuration for Financial reporting. The problem might have occurred when the Fr configuration gets corrupt.
Please try this :
1. Stop the Financial Reporting services.
2. Run the Configuration Utility on the Financial Reporting Reports Server.
3. Select "Configure Financial Reporting" only.
4. Start the Financial Reporting services

You cannot run Essbase queries directly within Xcelsisu as it uses VBA/COM addins to work which are not supported.
If you have SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, look at creating a Universe over your Essbase queries and then use Webi or QaaWS to populate your Xcelsius model.

During the installation of Essbase Studio only, ess_es_server.jar and ess_japi.jar are missing. If you install both Essbase and Studio, they are not missing.
This is due to unpublished bug 14232814 - DURING THE INSTALLATION ONLY STUDIO SOME .JAR FILES NOT INSTALLED
Try the following:
Stop Essbase Studio
copy files into EPMSystem11R1\common\EssbaseJavaAPI\11.1.2.0\lib
ess_es_server.jar
ess_japi.jar
If folder does not exist create it.
1. Stop essbase Studio.
2. Drop tables from relational database
3. Recreate tables.
4. Start Essbase Studio.
Scripts for dropping & recreating catalog located under
oracle\middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\EssbaseStudio\Server\database\common\db_name

Problem with Microsoft SSRS connecting to Essbase

Hello specialists,
I'm having an issue when i try to connect SSRS to Essbase.
My SSRS version is 2008 R2, Essbase version is 11.1.2.1 OS version is Windows server 2008R2 and I'm running SQL server 2008 R2.
I'm using the XMLA connector from SSRS to connect to Essbase, The message error message i get back when i preview the report is this one:
+"An error ocurred during local report processing. cnnot read the next data row for the dataset "year". The server sent an unrecognizable response. Unable to Format XML according to declared type. Input string was not in correct format."+
Previously I was using another Essbase instance to connect to the server and it was working alright, when i changed to the correct one, the one form the specified server the error appeared.
When i test the connection with the new server it works alright. Here are the versions of the analytic provider services:
11.1.2.0.0.615 - The one that's not working
11.1.2.1.00.353 - The version that is working.
Hope you can help me because the old machine is about to be disabled and i will have to stop my work if I don't happen to get the new connection working asap.

I am using Essbase Studio Release 11.1.2.1.00 for developing XOLAP cubes and deploying them on to Essbase server .
I am getting the below Error while deploying the cube onto Essbase server.
error : Failed to deploy Essbase cube.
Caused by: Failed to build Essbase cube dimension: (TimeHierarchy) .
Caused by: Cannot get async process state. Essbase Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server.
From Essbase Studio -> Datasources tab, I could able to connect to SQL Database server..Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

There was a problem with my Essbase Server..so now i m pointing to other server.
now I am getting the below Error:
Failed to deploy Essbase cube.
Caused by: Cannot end incremental build. Essbase Error(1025008): Join Specification near [[TIMEID]] is invalid. Please verify the Xolap Schema file.
Please let me know how can I validate my cube and what changes might require in my Cube definitions?

I am very new in Essbase and I am receiving the error message quoted below while trying to load data in a Cube. Weird thing is that we have checked all connections already and they are working correctly, however this process is still failing.

Then we concentrated in the following error message: *ODBC Layer Error: [S1000] ==> [[DataDirect][ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver][Oracle]ORA-04063: view "REP_ESSBASE.VW_GL_BALANCES" has errors]*
So, we checked the database and noticed the schema and their views were damaged and -due to this- they lost all their properties (like data types, for example). So, we had to recompile all of them in order to avoid any loss of data. This was done in TOAD, as per the following info: https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL66821
Finally, once all the views on this schema were rebuilt and fixed, we were able to deploy the Cube again.

Essbase Studio Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Data

I have trying to deploy a cube with Essbase Studio but I get the error: "*Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server*"
My environment is Linux 5, Oracle 11g and EPM 11.1.1.2. Oracle database and Essbase was installed with diferent users. In the .bash_profile of hypadmin user (that install Essbase) I have set the following variables

In my pc (windows xp) I can open Essbase Studio console, do the connection to Oracle database, get tables and create minischema, mesures and hierarchies (I can see the preview of hierarchies). Also I can create cubes with EAS and can connect with MAXSHELL to essbase.
When I try to deploy the cube from Essbaes Studio y get the error "Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server".

Essbase Studio - Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server

Hi all,
I am new to Hyperion and am having trouble deploying what seems a simple cube in Essbase Studio.
My environment is Windows 2003, EPM 11.1.1.2, SQL Server 2000.
I have the following two issues which may be related.
1. The EPM System Diagnostic tool says that Hyperion Foundation cannot connect to the SQL database.
Error:
Failed: Connection to database
Error: java.net.UnknownHostException: <server name: <server name>
Recommended Action:
Every other EPM application is able to connect to the database. I have tried re-configuring Foundation Services and checking the config files and nothing looks wrong. I would appreciate advice on how to fix this.
2 In Essbase Studio, I was able to connect to the database where the source data is, build the minischema and create dimensions and measures. But when I run the cube deployment wizard I get the error:
Message: Failed to deploy Essbase cube
Caused By: Failed to build Essbase cube dimension: (Time)

I have checked the DSN as well as the connections set up within Studio, and they are all able to connect to the database. I am using the admin user for the Essbase server and have created a different user for the databases where the data resides and the shared services database. I tried using the same user all the way through and this didn’t help.
Can you please advise what else I can check or change to resolve this issue.
Also, can you work in EAS with cubes that are created in Studio? I tried looking at it and I got an error that the rule file couldn’t be accessed because it was created in Studio.
After the above failures, I tried creating a cube in EIS, with mixed success. I have been able to load the members and data without errors. But when I try to view the data in the cube, I am seeing field names for the measures instead of the data itself.
...Definitely more questions than answers at this stage of my learning.

I don't know if you found an answer to you question after so many months but I was hoping I could be helpful.
The issue you are experience happens often when the dimension that you are getting an error on, in this case TIME, is built from a snowflake lineage and there is a bad foreign key reference. This dimension is most like high-up in your outline build process for Essbase Studio and this prevents the build from happening usually early on.
Check your logs also. They are in Hyperion > Products > logs > essbase > essbasestudio.
You can also make your logs more verbose by setting a configuration variable in the essbase studio server.properties file but that should only be used for debugging as it really saps performance.
And, yes, you can of course edit an Essbase Studio deployed cube in EAS. However, any changes you make to the cube in EAS are subject to being wiped-out upon the next Essbase Studio deployment of that Applicaion/Database combo.
If you want to provide more detail, screenshots, etc. I would be glad to help where I can.

Unable to connect to essbase server with Smart View

Hi,
I'm having trobules connecting Smart View in order to make some adhoc analysis, however I could perfectly establish connection with Planning and navigate through web forms in excel.
The address I'm using to connect to Essbase is: http://<server>:19000/aps/SmartView and the planning url is http://<server>:19000/HyperionPlanning/SmartView
I've been already using those urls in other server with version 11.1.2 but now that I'm trying to connect to a server with v11.1.1.3 I just can't. Whenever I connect to Planning in order to see the forms a prompt appears with the message saying that "I'm connecting to a server with an older version" but I could perfectly work with the forms. When I connect to essbase, I can see the Applications but I just can't make any adhoc analysis.
Could anyone have any idea of what could be happening?

Thanks for your response, I've already checked that port and keep getting the same message "Common Provider null datasource error". I can see the applications but can't get any further than that, no analysis adhoc, no smart slice, only disconnect :(
