ADF/Toplink embedded OC4J

G'Day,
I have problems to deploy an ADF/Toplink application. I checked out the "EJB Based Application Development with Oracle ADF"-Demo which I found at the "Oracle JDeveloper Reviewer's Guide"-Page.
Instead of "EJB 2.0 Entity Beans (OC4J Native persistence)" I used Toplink as persistence. When I run the dept.jsp I do get an OC4J Embedded Server Alert that tells me to use the standalone OC4J 10.0.3.
Why ? I suggest it's just while Toplink is set up already in OC4J 10.0.3 ? If so, is there a way of how I'm able to use the embedded OC4J ?
Cheers
Norman

JDeveloper 10g production release comes with OC4J 10g (9.0.4). This OC4J is used as embedded OC4J Server. TopLink is not integrated as CMP provider in the above release of OC4J (10g - 9.0.4). When you try to run a CMP which is mapped using TopLink persistence an alert is popped up.
OC4J 10g (10.0.3) preview release (available on OTN) has TopLink integrated as CMP provider. You can deploy CMP with TopLink persistence from JDeveloper 10g to OC4J 10g (10.0.3) and test them out.

• 10.1.3r3 - Enabling JAAS authorization in ADF BC with embedded OC4J

That's probably the most abstract subject line I've written in this forum yet.
In JDev 10.1.3r3 I'm attempting to implement JAAS authorization on an entity object in the Entity Object Editor's Authorization page. Via the Tools -> Embedded OC4J Server Preferences -> Global Authentication options I created a new realm "test.com", user "testuser", and role "testrole" allocating "testuser" to this new role. I've not yet defined a Login Config.
A search of the filesystem shows that these entries have been added to:
<jdev_home>\jdev\system\oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.34.12\embedded-oc4j\config\jazn-data.xml
Back in the EO Editor's Authorization page, selecting the New button with the EO name selected in the Define Updateable Permissions list, the Authorizations dialog displays showing the Realm "jazn.com", but not the new "test.com" role.
A search of the filesystem shows that the jazn.com entries come from:
<jdev_home>\jdev\system\oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.34.12\embedded-oc4j\config\system-jazn-data.xml
What am I doing wrong? Why can't I see my new realm in the EO Authorization dialog? Have I got the wrong end of the JDeveloper stick again?
I've been reading the white paper "J2EE Security in Oracle ADF Web Applications" for help, but as far as I can see it's more concerned with the configuration of security in the ViewController layer than the Model layer.
JDev team, a couple of things I've noticed:
1) The help page for the EO Editor's Authorization page has a number of links that aren't working at the bottom of the page and did in 10.1.2. Ditto the "Implementing Authorization in Oracle ADF Business Components" page.
2) In 10.1.2 under the Tools -> Embedded OC4J Server Preferences -> Global Authentication options, the jazn.com realm is shown as an option, while in 10.1.3r3 it's not.
Hope somebody can help.
Cheers,
CM.

Chris,
I filed seeral bugs on this behavior in JDeveloper 9.0.5. The information is needed in the Jdeveloper Home/j2ee/home/config/szstem-jazn-data.xml. I know this doesn't make it intuitive and I filed bugs as mentioned. For production this should be resolved to a more user friendly experience.
You are correct that the existing security paper deals with view layer seurity and that it needs to be updated for model layer security. In Jdeveloper 10.1.3 we added security on the binding layer as well, which I think is a better place to put it than on individual business services, though there is nothing wrong with this. For production this will be documented in the online help.

• JBO-33001 bc4j.xcfg missing with Jdev 9.0.5.1 embedded OC4J

I've got an application that I've been trying to migrate from Jdev 10g Preview (9.0.5) to Production (9.0.5.1) for a week now. The steps I've had to follow so far are:
1) Install Jdev 9.0.5.1
2) Run it and allow all workspaces/settings to be migrated
3) Shut down and rename the system9.0.5.1.1605 to something else.
4) Restart and say No to migrate
5) Open my application workspaces again.
This procedure seemed to get me correct library settings working with the correct XML schemas. However, now I can't test my BC4J/UIX application. I get the following message when I right-click on a DataAction and choose Run:

This is happening in the embedded OC4J. How do I fix this?

I've managed to resolve this error. Somehow, my entire Model project got mis-represented in my ViewController. The package name was "model" in my Model project, yet somehow all of the Binding Contexts (UImodel.xml) files contains "com_paslists_model_..." for the name of my Application Module. To resolve the error, I first had to fix the references to my Application Module in the DataBindings.cpx file. Then, I had to exit Jdev completely and edit the UImodel.xml files by hand, replacing the invalid reference to my DataControl using the correct entry in the DataBindings.cpx file.
Now, everything seems to function correctly.
I don't know how this got so messed up, unless it was an error with migration.

Hi,
OC4J needs to be configured to support HTTP and HTTPS sessions. Because the embedded OC4J uses the default-web-app configuration during testing I am not so sure about configuring it for HTTPS. However, in this case I suggest you test it as a stand alone container in which case HTTPS configuration happen as described in the OC4J security guide.
"How do I make the Embedded OC4J redirect http requests for secure web content to https automatically as required in the servlet 2.4 spec ?"
I don't find this statement in my version of the Servet 2.4 spec. Can you point me to the line in the document?
If you mean transport guarantee, then this is not exactly what you say:
"The transport-guarantee element specifies that the communication between client and server should be NONE, INTEGRAL, or CONFIDENTIAL. NONE means that the application does not require any transport guarantees. A value of INTEGRAL means that the application requires that the data sent between the client and server be sent in
such a way that it can’t be changed in transit. CONFIDENTIAL means that the application requires that the data be transmitted in a fashion that prevents other entities from observing the contents of the transmission. In most cases, the presence of the INTEGRAL or CONFIDENTIAL flag will indicate that the use of SSL is required."
Servlet 2.4 spec
This however doesn't mean automated redirect to https but says that this requires SSL, which means that a http error is thrown if https isn't used

• JDev 10.1.3: Problem deploying a session bean to embedded OC4J

JDeveloper 10.1.3, TopLink, OC4J, WinXP, java 1.4.2_05.

• Is there a way to specifiy memory size usage in embedded OC4J?

I'm using JDeveloper 9.0.3 and am having a problem with
EJB's not being created at a certain point in my application. I can create EJBs fine up to a certain point then I start to get java.rmi.RemoteException's, even when i try to create the exact same type of EJB's that were successfully created earlier. I can't figure out why this could start happening unless I've reached some sort of memory usage limit. Is there a way to check if this could be the problem, and if so, is there a property I could set to increase the memory usage?

Jason,
For your information, you can define a limit on the number of EJB instances created via the "orion-ejb-jar.xml" deployment descriptor file. See that file's DTD for more details.
As regards increasing memory, I do this via the "-Xmx" option to the java command -- when using stand-alone OC4J. Sorry, but I don't use "JDeveloper", so I can't tell you how to increase the memory for "JDeveloper"'s embedded OC4J server. Have you tried the JDeveloper and ADF forum?
Good Luck,
Avi.

• Ajax functionality works in embedded OC4J, but not on iAS 10.1.2

Hi,
For a customer, we made an ADF application using JDeveloper 10.1.2. Using instructions from http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/vohra-ajax.html we coded a servlet, to find a description from a code the user entered in the application, and show this on the webpage without page refresh (the application uses JSP and Struts). This works fine in the embedded oc4j server JDeveloper provides, and also works fine on the Standalone OC4J server. However, when the application is deployed to the iAS from the customer, everything works fine, except the ajax functionality, the description fields simply are not shown.
Does anyone have a clue what could be the problem? We also runned the application on the iAS server itself, and this gives the same error (no ajax functionality).
Thanks in advance,
Remco

Hi dvohra,
Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid I overlooked something, which is the reason of the ajax functionality not working. The Servlet that made the Ajax functionality used a datasource, and the same was in the Embedded OC4J Preferences. The ADF Business Components part was changed to use the datasource declared on the iAS. The Servlet however was not...
So, all works now.

• Problem with Jdeveloper Embedded OC4J XML parsing

Hi all,
I am having a problem getting jdeveloper to work well. If I use jdeveloper to build the WAR file for my app and I deploy to Tomcat, the app runs fine with no error.
However, if I try to run my app within the jdeveloper, I get this error -
08/06/10 19:11:10 com.ibatis.dao.client.DaoException: Error while configuring DaoManager. Cause: java.lang.RuntimeException: XML Parser Error. Cause: oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDOMException: invalid character [ in name

I have tried to turn off XML parsing within Jdeveloper but no luck. I don't understand why jdeveloper will be trying to implicitly parse the XML doc, and wont even do it well.
Is there a way I can turn off Embedded OC4J XML parsing ? and let it just use the parser in the application ? I mean Tomcat works fine with this application.
Please help !

I think maybe you use wrong adf lib when deploying your project to the OC4J.
You can update your oc4j in the jdev.[JDEV->Tools->ADF Runtime Installer-> Standalone OC4J].
Good luck

• Jazn-data.xml file, authentication in web.xml and embedded oc4j

I've defined new security-roles, security-constraints and an authentication method in my web.xml file and i've created a new jazn-data.xml file that holds the different users and their groups.
If I want to link the security-roles of the web.xml file to the roles in the jazn-data.xml file I always need an orion-application.xml file, is this correct?
If I want to deploy an application as this to the embedded container the security won't work, I'm always getting the '403 forbidden' page.
Can somebody point me out how I need to define security for an embedded and standalone environment when using authentication and jazn-data.xml file + how do I deploy this to a standalone oc4j and how to get this same application to work in the embedded oc4J.

hi "romanna"
Part of the answer to "Can somebody point me out how I need to define security ..." can probably be found in the "Oracle ADF Developer's Guide" that has "18 Adding Security to an Application".

• Commit working in embedded OC4J but not in Application Server 10g

Hi all
i am creating an application using Jdeveloper 9051+adf+uix.
here in a form i have a Create,Delete button and a commit button. after creating or deleting a row , i press commit button and it works fine in embedded OC4J.
But after deploying this application on Oracle Application Server 10g , create and delete buttons are working (means data in form is getting submitted) but commit button is not working (commit button is enabled but data is not getting commited in the table.) after pressing the commit button the form is coming back to its previous position and the commit button is yet enabled. if i presses it second time then button goes disabled but data is not commited at all.
Please provide me solution to this problem.
Thanks

• Step by Step Deploying ADF Faces to OC4J 10.1.2

Hi there,
I've already read the previous topic about deploying ADF Faces to OC4J 10.1.2.
But I'm still getting failed to deploy it.
Some clue that I know are:
- Using JDK 1.4.2 (not 1.5)
- Using J2ee 2.3 (not 2.4)
- Using ADF Runtime installer to OC4J 10.1.2
But i've got some problem, when I'm trying to run my project using jdk 1.4.2. It gives me an error like this:
classloader.util.AnnotatedClassFormatError: MBeanServerEjbHome_StatefulSessionHomeWrapper1
Invalid class: MBeanServerEjbHome_StatefulSessionHomeWrapper1
Loader: system.root:0.0.0

Dependent class: com.evermind.server.ejb.deployment.SessionBeanDescriptor
Loader: oc4j:10.1.3

Configuration: <code-source> in META-INF/boot.xml in D:\av\src\Jdev1013\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar
Can anyone tell me how to deploy ADF Faces to 10.1.2 step by step?
Thanx in advance :),
Andre

I have the same problem. My applications works fine with Jdev 10.1.3 but after deploying it on the application server I'm getting this error.

• Problem running embeded OC4J from JDeveloper 11g TP 3

I've just downloaded JDeveloper 11g Technical Preview 3. Unzipped it and ran.
IDE runs ok, but when I try to run Web project on embedded OC4J, I got exceptions and the server never starts (exception text included on the bottom).
Here is the way to reproduce the error:
1. Create new Web Project with New Gallery wizard:
a. New Gallery->general->projects->web project
b. on Web Application page (step 3 of 7) choose Servlet 2.5/JSP 21.
c. on Page Flow technology page (4 of 7) choose none
d. don't include available libraries (5 of 7)
e. on Web Project Profile (6 of 7) check Add JSP Page
f. finish
e. choose jsp name (after clicking finish a dialog pops up)
2. Run the page
a. select the page in Application Navigator
b. right click on it and choose Run option
In my case I got the following exception:

• JDev 10.1.2/Embedded OC4J / JDev generated Library path

Hello!
I migrated a JDeveloper 9.0.3.4 - Workspace and Project to JDeveloper 10.1.2.
My application uses Struts 1.2.4 and Toplink 9.0.3.
I don't want to migrate Toplink 9.0.3 to Toplink 10G (9.0.4.5) in that moment.
Running my application on embedded OC4J it uses not my referenced toplink 9.0.3 but toplink 9.0.4.5 library.
I edited "$JDEV_HOME\jdev\system10.1.2.0.0.1811\oc4j-config\application.xml" file and commented out the toplink library path, but as this entry is "jdev-generated", this entry is regenerated.
How can i solve this issue?
Thank you!
Harald.

• Migrating security settings from embedded oc4j to preconfigured oc4j

Hi,
I was able to configure security in my 11g TP3 ADF application, and run it successfully against embedded oc4j.
Now, when I want to migrate this to preconfigured oc4j, I am getting ERROR:null.
Please see the steps I follow:
set CLASSPATH=C:/JDeveloper/j2ee/home/jazn.jar;C:/JDeveloper/BC4J/lib/adf-share-base.jar;C:/JDeveloper/j2ee/home/lib/security-api.jar;
After that, I run the migration tool:
java oracle.security.jazn.tools.JAZNMigrationTool -sr jazn.com -dr jazn.com -st xml -dt
xml -sf "C:\Documents and Settings\nneelaka\Application Data\JDeveloper\system11.1.1.0.22.47.96\o.j2ee\embedded-oc4j\config
\system-jazn-data.xml" -df "C:\Documents and Settings\nneelaka\Application Data\JDeveloper\oracle.adfp.seededoc4j.11.1.1.0.
0.071218.1800\j2ee\home\config\system-jazn-data.xml" -m policy
This is because, as I mentioned in the earlier mail, the webcenter preconfigured oc4j's configurations are read from the directory :
C:\Documents and Settings\nneelaka\Application Data\JDeveloper\oracle.adfp.seededoc4j.11.1.1.0.
0.071218.1800\j2ee\home\config\system-jazn-data.xml
and, the embedded oc4j's configuration is read from the directory :
C:\Documents and Settings\nneelaka\Application Data\JDeveloper\system11.1.1.0.22.47.96\o.j2ee\embedded-oc4j\config
\system-jazn-data.xml
However, when I run the migration tool, I get a message ERROR:null. Also, I dont have adfshare.jar, and instead, I have put adf-share-base.jar. Is there something I could be missing here ? Please advise.
Best Regards,
nattu

Hi,
Try enabling java logging to see what the exact error is. That might give you an idea of what the error could be..
When I tried, I got the below error though I added jps-common.jar, which contains CredStoreResources, into the classpath
java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find oracle.security.jps.internal.common.resources.credstore.CredStoreResources bundle

P.S:check the destination file path. Are you sure that's correct. I believe It should be something like ""C:\Documents and Settings\nneelaka\Application Data\JDeveloper\system11.1.1.0.22.47.96\o.adfp.seededoc4j.11.1.1.0.
