Adjoining cells keep changing size

Have added text to cells on several columns. The text can be of varying lengths. At first cells fit text, but by the time I finished a lot of the first column cells have stretched way out of proportion.
Have tried various things, but fixing one column just upsets another.
Is there any way to make all the cells fit the text, without disrupting the whole table? Any help would be appreciated as I've spent ages trying to fix it, without success. Thanks.

Columns are columns, they are not freeform with varying widths in each row. Think of them as columns, like in a newspaper. The entire column is a set width, regardless of the amount of text on any particular line.
You have a few choices:
If you have "wrap" selected for a cell, the text will never exceed the bounds of the cell, it will wrap to create multi-line text within the cell. The row height will change accordingly to accommodate the text. You can go back and reduce the height of the row but then you will not be able to see all of your text.
If you do not have "wrap" selected, the text can exceed the width of the cell if the cell to the right of it is blank. If the cell to the right is not blank then the text is truncated for display so it does not go outside of the cell (the text is there, you just won't see it all). You can increase the width of the column to accommodate the extra text. This increases the width of each and every cell in the column.
You can merge cells but I don't recommend doing this.
Resize column/row to fit content means that the column/row size will be increased or decreased to fit the largest thing in the column/row. So if one cell has a lot of text and others have little, it will be resized to fit the larger text and the other cells will have extra space.

Why do my folders in my finder keep changing size and the way I set them up ....??!?!?!?!

I cant seem to post a picture here but they are dis proprtionate to each other and ALL over the place, I set them up to be set up a certain way and it keeps changing. It is really getting me angry!!!! Any help??

Good grief!!!! I see what you mean now.
Hold down the option key>Finder>Go>Library>Preferences. Trash the com.apple.finder.plist file, repair permissions and restart your computer. Empty the trash.
Open up your messed up document folder and click on the gear like icon in its menu>Arrange by - select your arrangement>Show View Options. Click the Use As Default button. Your arraingements should now stick.

Messages Buddies window keeps changing size

The buddies list in Messages keeps growing longer and longer for me. Is there a way to make it stay the size that I want it to be?

It is a bit odd that you have that many Buddies that have gone Idle rather than showing any that are Away.
However it does not seem you have that many Buddies in total that would make a difference.
I notice that in the View Menu > Show Buddy Pictures is Off.
This as you will have found out does allow more Buddies in the space you have allowed. (each line is only as big as the Video and Audio Only icons)
If you make the Buddy List smaller than what you have shown (i.e. hide the Off Line group title bar and a few of the Buddies) does the Scroll bar appear ?
I don't Display the Off Line Buddies and also don't use the Off Line Group from them either. I am wondering if your setting are what makes the Buddy List dynamic in size.
My test.
I tried setting my Buddy lists with no pics.
I also set the Off Line Buddies and as a Group and "turned" the reveal triangle so they were hidden like yours.
I they set a couple of other AIM Buddy Lists to Off line.
Then I resized the buddy List to not shoe the Off Line Groups Title bar and also a few buddies up from that.
I then set the Off Line accounts to Available and logged them in.
In my Buddy list more Buddies dropped out of sight and the List did not resize.
Can you open a Finder window ?
Then go to the View Menu and chose Show Path Bar.
This will add some info across the bottom of the Window.
Can you also Select View Menu > Show View Options and Select the Modified option in the Show Column choices.
Now in the Finder > Go Menu hold down the ALT key and select the Library item that appears.
Navigate to the Preferences
Find the com.apple.ichat.plist one.
Alter the size of the Buddy List Or chose to Show Pictures and see if the Modified Date Changes (it should show the Time fro today's change).
The setting you are changing (window Size and what the window contains) are written to this .plist - or they ar if you Own like you should do and have Write Permissions (as well as Read ones) if the file settings are correct.
If you have lost Ownership of this File and changes will not be written to it.
It may be the Permissions have changed and you have lost the right to Write to it.
To find out, do a Get Info (CMD + i keys together) when the file is highlighted.
At the bottom of the Info panel is the Ownership and Permission Details.
Your shortname should appear in the list with Read and Write Permissions.
If you highlight this line and then use the Cogwheel icon at the bottom it should list "Make yourshortname (Me) the Owner" but it should be greyed out as it is already done.

i set my fonts with tools. but when i go to webpages it will show very small.

You may need to disable the hardware acceleration if you have a problem with font display.
Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: [ ] "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You can increase the String pref <b>layout.css.devPixelsPerPx</b> from 1.0 to 2.0 in 0.1 steps to see what works best.<br />
In current Firefox versions this pref is a String value parsed to a float and allows to fine tune the dimensions of all elements (user interface and web pages) more precisely.

Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages? I just want to type a letter and add pictures and titles, and Pages keeps changing font sizes and doesn't let me "Do it my way". I HATE this!

Is there any way to turn off the auto formatting in Pages? I'm using a blank document, so I figured I could write my letter and add pictures any way I wanted to. But NO! Pages keeps changing the font size! I typed a large heading as a title, and when I try to change to a smaller font for the body of the letter, it changes the size back to the larger size! I am getting SO FRUSTRATED! I've spent over an hour trying to get the stupid program to let me just type my letter! Can anyone help?

The only one left is the "unsubmitted text" dialogue, which would not be a problem if I were not a Facebook user; after updating the "Richard is..." field (which does not require a manual submit to actually send) I get the above message. This is obviously Safari just not realising that the info has been sent and is therefore (I imagine) one for Apple themselves to answer!!

Not being a Facebook User, I'm not sure how to respond to the error situation. However, this would be something to report to Apple as a bug via the Safari Menu. First, open to the page in question, then select "Report Bugs to Apple".

Why does a UITableView cell.contentView.bounds.size.width change with cell reuse?

I use `cell.contentView.bounds.size.width` to calculate the position of a text field in a UITableView cell. When the cell is created, debug code reports the width as 302. When the cell scrolls off the screen and then back on, the debug code reports that the it is 280--every time. It doesn't seem to want to go back to 302 and stays stuck at 280. The net result is that the text field gets put in the wrong place the second time the field is put into the cell's contentView, though it was put in the right place the first time.
I figure 22 is significant somehow, but I don't know what it is. Guessing it might be the disclosure arrow, I moved the "clear the cell" code up front of the width determination, including setting the accessory to nada.
Can anybody tell me what's going on here?

Now, every time, the width in the log is _always_ 302. It would seem, then, that a reused cell has different content width than the original cell.
Anybody got a clue on this?

i guess the reason is that a newly create cell is create with a default frame by initWithStyle:
But it's not yet added to any superview so you're logging that default size.
After returning the new cell the tableViewController adds that cell as subview to the tableView which can lead to a resize of that cell.
If the cell is scrolled off screen it's just removed from superview but stays the same size. If it's reused later it's still having the same size it had when removed from superview.

I always set dock size the smallest. But it keeps changing so that it's slightly bigger than the smallest. Why is it changing all by itself?

Screen size keeps changing

sometimes when i am working in adobe cc suddenly my screen size changes and I cannot figure out why or how to change it back. Has this happened to anyone else?

Possible reasons a window would change size
Ctrl or Alt Spacebar and left click drag (standard zoom feature)
or my best guess, he has Zoom with mouse wheel check in General preferences. This operates completely by itself, (no other key needed) so would be very easy to make happen unintentionally.

Split Screen on 30" Display, changes in System pref keep changing

Hi,
This is my first time on this forum, so Hi to everyone out there.........!
Anyway,
I have a G4 with a 30" display, everytime I boot up the 30" display splits into 2 halfs, like a mirror of each other and the resolution is 1200 x 800. The only way to fix it is to reboot the PC and then I get the one size screen at full resolution.
I've gone into System Preferences and Displays and locked the configuration change heaps of times but it doesn't seem to stay locked as for some reason the config keeps changing.....
Please note, my laptop stays blank but I can drag screens from my display and make them display into my laptop which allows me to open heaps of sessions up between the two....
Does anyone have the same issues, or this this a first......?

Changing sizes etc.

Can someone tell me why Photoshop keeps changing settings for placing objects, image size etc.?
For example: I create a new Photoshop document:
     ppi: 300
     Width: 160 mm
     Heigth: 160 mm
after clicking "OK", these go to 160,2 mm or less than 160 mm.
The same with the sizes and places of objects etc. I create a 20 x 20 mm circle. One click later it is 19,89 x 19,89. I set it's location to X: 80 mm, Y: 80 mm. One click later: 80,02mm
Is this a "problem" that can be solved?

Change the units to Pixels/centimetre and use 120 - that comes close enough.
It's an interesting concept though, and one that causes problems for an awful lot of new users of apps like Photoshop, Elements etc. Until very recently, Photographic Societies accepted digital image competition entries at a maximum 1024 (horizontal) by 768 pixels (vertical). It is amazing how hard that seemed to be for most new Camera Club members. They would either submit images at full res, or if a portrait mode image, submit their images at 1024 pixels high. A lot of competition organisers _still_ state a DPI for competition entries (usually 72), but I suppose it is possible that it could conceivably affect the displayed sized of the image — although I can’t think of anything other than printing where that would hold true.
In the last nine months or so, I have seen requests for entries at 1400x1050 (which maintains the aspect ratio of SVGA) through 1600x1400 (which is almost square, and the projectors are VERY expensive). Thankfully, our National body PSNZ decided to make 1080p the new standard from May this year, which while having a 16:9 aspect ratio, at least the projectors are affordable.

Photos and layouts change size when adding photos in book layout

I am using the Classic layout to create books.
Sometimes, when I move a photo down into the layout, unpredictable things happen. For example, when I drag a photo down onto the page layout, sometimes the photo will change sizes, and sometimes the layout will move around (esp. with 3 or 4 images on a page). On a page with a single image, sometimes the photo comes in large, and sometimes it shrinks. On a 3 photo per page layout, sometimes the layout starts with 3 photo boxes in a row. I can add one or two, and then I add another (could be the 1st, 2nd or 3rd - it's the image file that I think triggers the change) and all the boxes scramble and instead of a row of 3 equal-sized boxes, now I have a page with 1 big and 2 small boxes. Totally unpredictable!
Is there any way to control this?
All the photo files I'm starting with are high resolution tiffs, around 8 inches square (most are squares, not 4x6 snapshots) at 300 dpi.
I have had this issue on 3 computers (and probably 2 different versions of iPhoto): a 2-year-old G5, and two brand new iMacs.
Any help or advice is welcome. Thanks.

If you Control-click on the square photo in a book frame you can select the "Fit photo to frame size" option and the entire image will be contained in the frame. there will be some white space on the short side.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Quantum Client keeps changing to 480p Video!

So I have 3 Quantum clients in my home. On two of them the video keeps changing to 480p and only fitting the 4:3 letterbox size. I go to settings and it says 1080i or 1080p or 720p but it does not matter. The output stays at 480p. So to fix it I have to take out the HDMI from the TV and plug it in to a different input. Then it keeps the settings for a few days but then reverts back to 480p. One is hooked to a new Vizio TV and one is hooked to a new Samsung TV.
Any ideas out there?

Other then to say I am not seeing it with my Samsung "e" series (2012-2013). Mine stays set at 1080P.
Is this happening on the VMS or on the IPC, or both.

How can I get a table cell to change color if its below some value

Hi everyone, I use JDeveloper with JHeadstart and just finished the tutorial using the predefined HR schema. I was wondering how would I go about making the color of a cell to change to red if it falls below 5. So for example if I was to measure the amount of printer cartridges we had in storage, and it falls to below 5, in the table that has the equipment the cell changes color to red?
