Adjust Color Curves... is disabled, why?

Hello,
I've just downloaded a trial of PSE 9.  I'm evaluating whether or not this product will work for some coworkers with light image editing responsibilities.
With and image open, if I goto the Enhance menu, and select Adjust Color, the option for “Adjust Color Curves…” is disabled (greyed out).  Is this a feature locked in the trial, but available in the paid version of PSE?
Thanks,
Duffy

Make sure you have an image open in the editor and are not working with a 16 bit image. Otherwise click Image >>Mode
Then change to 8 bit.
I just checked in PSE6 : the 'adjust color curves' works perfectly in 16 bits

  • "Gamma" slider in Preview's "Adjust Color" window now absent in 10.6. Why?

In Preview, if one chooses "Adjust Color" from the "Tools" menu, a small window pops up with various sliders allowing one to make minor adjustments to the jpeg -- contrast, sharpness, exposure, etc.
In previous versions of Preview that came with 10.4 etc., one of the sliders was called "Gamma," and I found it very useful. I'm no photographer nor a professional graphics person, so I couldn't even tell you the exact definition of what a "gamma adjustment" even is, but in my experience I found that it seemed to lighten the dark areas of the image without overly lightening the already-light areas. By fiddling with a combination of the "Contrast" slider and the "Gamma" slider, one could rescue a photo that was badly lit or unevenly exposed.
But in the new version of Preview that comes with my Snow Leopard 10.6.4, the "Gamma" slider has been removed entirely, replaced by the far-less-useful "Temperature" slider, which instead subtly adjusts the tint to appear warmer or colder (red/blue).
What happened to the "Gamma" adjuster? Is there any way to restore it, or customize the "Adjust Color" window?
    What a bummer.
I really like Preview's "Adjust Color" sliders, and find them to be much more convenient for basic photo sprucing up than the more complicated controls in PhotoShop and other pro-level programs. I realize I can adjust the Gamma in these fancier programs, but I'd much rather have all the needed adjustment-controls altogether in the same program.
Any suggestions? I don't want to have to try to re-install an ancient version of Preview just for this one feature.

    I did a Google search & found - http://earthlingsoft.net/ssp/blog/2009/08/macos_x6part2
"*Gamma: Apple (finally) changed the gamma value of their display calibration.* There goes the classic Mac look… well it’s not quite as (a) my MacBook’s screen is a crappy dithering **** anyway so I am in no position to notice anything and, more significant in a global sense, (b) the magic of colour management means that you shouldn’t see the difference caused by the gamma change on colour managed images. What remains are the UI elements and Apple seems to have done a reasonable job of making things look all right. Just some of my old icons seem to look a bit different now. In the long run I imagine this change may be beneficial for people who publish images on the web without knowing what they do. "

  • Adjust Color option not available in Preview?

We scanned in some documents recently and need to adjust their contrast. Unfortunately, the option for Tools>Adjust Color is grayed out/unavailable. Any idea why this would be the case? The documents were scanned in on a Canon MX850.
    Thanks.

Mine are all jpgs, i.e., photos scanned with an HP 4-in-1 scanner or photos taken with a Kodak digital camera, downloaded into EasyShare and saved as jpgs.
I'd always used Preview, prior to the Leopard upgrade, rather than HP PhotoSmart or the Kodak program for much of my editing because the "exposure" and the "sharpen image" features were much better and could often salvage an iffy photo, especially the old circa WW II sepia ones.

  • Re: Photoshop CC - adjustment layer curves issue

First post here in the discussion,
Just upgraded CS6 to CC and really enjoy alot of the changes but there seems to be a bug with the adjustment layer curves (not regular curves).
If I make a change to the curve using modification point and then toggle "undo", the preview of the image will toggle on and off with the change but the modification point does not reset. This point stays in the original position even if the curves are not in effect and will only reset when another layer is selected before returning back to these curves.
One must also manually reset the point if you wanted to revert back to the original (instead of undo) because if you place another modification point on the curve it will revert back to the change you made earlier.
Am I missing something or is this a bug?
    Cheers!

Just repeating what's already been said above.
Having the same problem with Photoshop CC, tricky to explain this one:
Working in Curves and/or Selective Color Adjustment layers (probably in any adjustment layer) is very buggy.
When I do a change f.ex. let's say I'm tweaking inside curves and undo my last change it does reflect it on screen but not in the dialog/palette. So when I do my next tweak both my old tweak (not reflected on screen anymore but still there) and the new one goes into effect.
It's driving me nuts and have forced me to go back to CS6.

  • ADJUST COLOR mixer?

Hi, forgive me if I'm a bit behind the times, but my last Photoshop software before Elements 9 was CS2.
Where has the manual "Adjust Color" option gone? I fine it hard to believe the program would be without a simple RGB adjustment tool, even in a lite version like Elements. Am I missing something or is it really gone? Is there any way to get it integrated back in? Or another way in which to do the same thing? I don't know if "Auto Adjust Color" or the "Color Curve" will satisfy as fully.
    What are my options? Thanks!

Assuming you still have access to CS2, try writing an action to call up the channel mixer command. I don't think you can pull up color balance though. Note: Again as noted above, the dialogs will be more limited than what is in Photoshop.
There are some instructions for writing them for Elements in this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/698817?tstart=0
    OR
You might try Grant's Tools which is a freeware action pack. I believe, everything in the chart listed for Elements 6 is also in the Elements 8 set. Note: The dialogs will be more limited than what is in Photoshop. For example, curves can only call up RGB channel, can not save presets, and can not be edited. Another example would be layer masks...only basic masking function is available.
    http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Challenge/Tools/Files.html
    OR
I'm fairly sure you'll have luck as they have products like Elements+ that calls up dialogs that are in Photoshop by using actions. I've never used this product so can't say how well it works. Looking through the set, should give you an idea of what actions you can write using CS2 if you still have access to it.

  • Adjust colors caused clip to go to slow motion

I have a 4 minute clip in a file that is 30 gig. I didn't like the color of the clip so I used Adjust Colors in Video FX to change them. Now that clip is running at about 1/3 speed. How do I either fix this or undo the effect? Is that a major bug or what??? As it took nearly an hour to render, I made umpteen other changes to the project while it was rendering so just hitting undo is not an option.

Discovered that hitting delete removes the rendering. So now the question is, why does changing the color cause it to go into slo mo?

Just scanned a bunch of pages as a PDF and opened it in Preview. The levels were off so I wanted to Adjust Color, but it was greyed out. Am I correct in assuming that this only works with image files, not PDFs?

A PDF file cannot be edited like a document file except using Adobe Acrobat. You can edit the original document, then create a new PDF. This is also true of image files if they have already been made into PDFs.

Hmmm, I wonder if that window is hidden or off screen? Have you moved the pic window around to look under it?
    Might try this...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Adjusting color in part of an image in a photo.

Hi, just bought Photoshop CC and am stuck.  I just received a photo of my uncle that was taken through the glass of the frame it was in.  The right side of his face is lighter than the rest of his face.  How do I adjust this color? You can also see some lightening of the lower right portion of his hat. Other issues have been corrected.  Portion of photo attached.  Thanks.

Thank you so much.  I will give it a shot. Your help is greatly appreciated.  Will let you know how it works.

  • Foreground color of a disabled component

How do i change foreground/text color of a disabled component? Something similar to JTextComponent's setDisabledTextColor().

I'm not exactly sure but I think this is highly component dependent and even look & feel dependent. Sometimes, there isn't even a such color defined anywhere. The component's ui just takes the current foreground color and calls brighter on it.
You'll have to be more specific on the component you wish to modify.

  • Foreground Color of a Disabled AWT Component

How do you change the foreground color of a disabled AWT component?

You would have to write your own renderer that checkes to see if the component is enabled or disabled. Your renderer would then draw the component as you like in both of those states.
