Adjust monitor

All of a sudden the monitor has become smaller than the picture, so I have to navigate with the mouse from the top to reveal the top menu (then the dock icons hide away) to the borttom - then the dock opens up but the upper menu bar disappears... same happens with the right to left -- left to right screen margins. How can I fix this boring trouble?

Go to System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing tab and turn off 'Zoom".

You can try going to system preferences, click the color tab, and click calibrate, click expert mode write down the settings you start at, and keep track as there are quite a few adjustments available. Click continue, follow the instructions, when you get to the"SELECT A TARGET GAMMA, un click native try moving the slider linear and standard.  And see if this gives you what you are looking for.

  • Adjusting Monitor Sharpness

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro 15 i7, How can I adjust the clarity, sharpness of the monitor besides the brightness adjustment. I have the 1440x900 pixel. I looks like it's not sharp enough.
Will this be okey to look if I attach it to a 27 inches monitor by Samsung?
    Thanks,

Not really true. When you decrease resolution, it's applied some kind of interpolation for projecting, let's say, 1366x768p on a 1920x1080p monitor. Depending on the interpolation method applied, borders, textures and fonts look too smooth, so you have to apply a sharpen algorithm. Technically, it's a normal process and any interpolation usually comes with a sharpen algorithm. If you can't adjust these settings, it's a software fault for not providing fine adjusts on display resolution.

  • Recent Nvidia Update - Need To Constantly Adjust Monitor Brightness

A few months ago on an Nvidia update, I noticed while using my HD Monitor that the brightness would stay on the level I set it at, meaning, the numbers would show the same for the brightness level when I checked the monitor, but the screen now always gets brighter after I log in and out of my desktop, so I have to constantly keep adjusting the brightness down.
Anyone know a fix for this so that the level will stay put and not keep getting brighter?
    THANKS

    Hi,
Open windows Control Panel and open Power Options.  Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan and in the following window, click on Change advanced power settings.  In the Advanced settings window, expand 'Enable adaptive brightness' and set it to Off.  Click Apply and Ok to save the setting, the restart the PC.
If you can't locate the option in the Advanced power options menu, you can always disable the service responsible for this as shown in the video below.

  • How to know if this computer can handle a certain monitor's resolution?

I am looking to buy a new monitor, but I am at a loss as to how to know whether my computer can handle the monitor's resolution, will be compatible with it. I used to run two NEC Multisync FE991SB (CRT) monitors side by side, and one of them died. Their native resolution seems to be 1280x1024 per monitor. I am considering buying a DoubleSight DS-263N (LCD) monitor, which has a native resolution of 1920 x 1200, and running it alongside the NEC Multisync FE991SB that has not died. Any advice on how i can learn about compatibility? And on what card i need to buy, if i do need to buy one? Thanks.

    Dear Discussion Folks,
Thank you all so much for your help. I think I understand now, as a result of your comments and this reply from NVIDIA customer support:
"I understand from your mail that you would like to know if GeForce FX 5200 Ultra supports your monitor that has a recommended digital resolution of 1920 x 1200.Please be informed that as per the NVIDIA records, the maximum digital resolution supported by this graphics card is 1600 x 1200 and the maximum analog resolution supported by this graphics card is 2048 x 1536. Since you have mentioned in your e-mail that the Apple's specs page says that the maximum digital resolution supported by this graphics card is 1920 x 1200, in this case, I request you to contact Apple Support over phone and get confirmed on this. The reason why I am requesting you to contact Apple is because, we at NVIDIA, manufacture only the basic chipsets for the graphics cards and sell them to Apple Computers. The Apple Computers produce the graphics cards using the NVIDIA chipsets."
This reassured me that there's no reason to worry about the appearance of a contradiction between the Apple tech sheet and the NVIDIA tech sheet. I went ahead and ordered this monitor today: the DoubleSIght DS- 265W.
(by the way, sorry about typing 1900x1200 when I meant 1920x1200).
After it arrives in a week or two, I'll update this thread to confirm that its resolution is supported by the GeForce FX 5200 Ultra card.
    Thanks again,
    Mark

  • 2.2 Gamma makes monitor look bad

Hi, thanks in advance for any info. I've been setting the monitor color and space in system preferences. I've had the "Target White Point" set for native of display, but it looks terrible. Dark, Overstaurated and even the timeline looks dark.
Tried at D65, which looks ok, but it won't be true to the footage. WHat would be the ideal settings please?
On a Dell, 30 in, HD display.
    Thanks!

Just get a proper display setup. Computer monitors are useless for this.
What constitutes a "proper display setup"?
A computer that sends a video signal out via a qualified video output device (aka AJA/Blackmagic/Matrox card or box) to a properly adjusted monitor. Viewing/thinking/deciding/talking about ANYTHING else is a waste of time. Yours and (more importantly) mine.

  • High Frequency Noise from Headphones Out Jack

I have isolated the following issue to audio that is monitored via the headphones output on the back of my iMac:
I've been encountering a very high-pitched (and at times a cycling through high frequencies) noise when working with headphones to monitor audio. It's not the headphones and the problem is not limited to any single application. The noise is sometimes barely audible, and it comes and goes - but repeatedly and often. Sometimes the frequency of the noise is so high that I can imagine that those with poor or compromised hearing wouldn't even notice it. But the highest frequencies are still detectable - kind of like a faint ringing in the ears or a ringing television set that has its volume turned all the way down.
I've done everything I can imagine to troubleshoot the problem including asking a Mac genius, but nobody seems to have encountered this before. The noise can be triggered off (not masked) by any other incoming audio, but eventually it reappears. I will be editing a file, the noise will appear, and I can literally silence it for the moment by pressing a volume key or playing back a portion of audio.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? Is there a fix? I do a lot of audio engineering and this problem is very distracting. I haven't purchased any outboard gear to monitor with yet, so I don't know if I will hear this noise through an external audio interface or not. Thankfully, this noise isn't being recorded to disk. It appears to be a little monster that is haunting only the playback.

OK, It is very easy to reproduce the problem, just follow this steps:
    (1) Insert any headphones to iMac.
    (2) Do NOT play any iTunes or any application with sound.
    (3) Now, set volume with the volume control keys on your keyboard, set it to the MAX.
    (4) You can keep pressing on the increase volume key and every time you hit the key you should hear a sound.
Just as when the sound stop, you will hear a high pitch. Keep repeat step 4 and wait a while, then occasionally you will hear a high pitch sound that will last to longer than 30 seconds. The high pitch will be even easier to reproduce if you alternate before decreasing volume and increase volume by 1 level, each time, wait and you will hear the high pitch too.
This high pitch sound can be heard on external speaker plug into the headphone jacks too.
BTW, I turned OFF WIFI, Bluetooth, removed all USB devices except keyboard and mouse, adjust monitor brightness, they have no effect on the high pitch, it is still there!
I am going to call the Apple Care tomorrow. Will keep you guys posted.

  • Unable to Control Volume on Hp Touchsmart 610

    Hello,
I just received my brand new custom HP Touchsmart 610 system.  I've found that I am unable to lower the master volume at all.  I have tried using the mouse to lower the volume on the sound mixer, the keyboard buttons and side monitor buttons.
Every time I lower the sound to say 50% it immediately slides back up to 100% automatically.  It's as if a "Volume Up" button is perpetually being held down, but no button is stuck on the keyboard or monitor.  I called HP and we did a full system restore but it did not resolve the issue, so they said to send it back.  While waiting on a new computer, I figured I'd give the forum a shot.
    Anyone have this problem?
    And also,
Another question... The HP My Touch Volume control that auto opens on the desktop when I turn the computer on can not be taken off the desktop.  The only way I was able to get rid of it was to end the My Touch process in task manager, but it seems like I should be able to disable that volume display on the desktop, and only open it when I want to adjust monitor settings...
Thanks so much for any help!

Hi to all that have volume control issues on the Touchscreen 610,
    Here is my experience:
I received my replacement (long story) TouchSmart 610-1180qd Win 7 64 bit computer from HP on Friday 07/15/2011. Right out of the box the volume control registered 100% and returned to 100% despite attempts to control it via mouse clicks and keyboard control.
My initial thought was to check and update the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC device and driver. At first, I simply disabled this driver which effectively gave me back control. Of course this is an unacceptable solution because it should work right out of the box, right? Upon reenabling the driver, the problem returned. I updated the driver but the problem persisted.
Perplexed as I was, I discovered that if I manually set the volume control using the volume control located on the left side case , it would allow a setting less than 100% and stay at settings which I deemed comfortable. At least for a while...
This solution was short-lived because when I attempted to adjust the screen down to "tablet mode", the volume immediately shot back to 100%. You see, when I grasped the case on the sides (where we are told to handle in order to adjust into the tablet configuration, that is, semi-flat on the desk), apparently some contact is made where the volume control is given the order to increase (this is not me accidentally pushing the buttons with my hand). The volume will stay there until I manually change it back using the left side case volume controls.
OK. So now I think there is a defect in the case design that causes the volume control to migrate to 100%. Perhaps HP will fess up to their quality control issues and fix this?
    If only that was all!
It seems that the same issue manifests itself under other circumstances. For instance, the Touchsmart was idling in screensaver mode while I was working on other computers in my network. You know, power on, updates, and the like on the other computers, when I noticed that this Touchsmart was showing the volume bar at 100%. This with no other input or contact of any kind! So, what happened here????
Clearly there is an issue with either the case design or software compatability. I wonder if any others out there experience the same issues as I've explained here.
Perhaps some of you can do a little troubleshooting and try some of these temporary workarounds as I've explained here and get back to this forum to explain your experiences.
Maybe together we can get HP's attention to recognize this problem.
    Thanks for trying.

  • Quality issues with VGA port on Type 2504 docking station

    Hi,
I see quality issues on the VGA output of the Type 2504 docking station with a T61. The monitor image is blurred, not much, but enough to be irritating. When I compare the DVI output with the VGA output on two equal NEC MultiSync LCD 2170NX monitors it is a clear difference. If I connect the LCD monitor to the VGA output of the T61 itself, the picture is clean. I have tried both monitors with different cables in different configurations and also adjusted monitors manually, and my conclusion is that it must be the VGA output of the 2504 that generates the un-sharpness. I have got several 2504 docking stations from the IT department to test and all attempts show the same unsharp picture on the LCD connected to the VGA port of any 2504. Recently a colleague got a new laptop and docking station. He also used DVI and VGA on the old setup and had no visible difference between the two monitors. His new setup is a different T but his new dock is also a 2504. Now he has clear difference between his monitors. He also tried several 2540 docks and cables but the difference is still present.
The unsharpness is not immediately present when just looking at a dual head setup. But after a while it becomes tiresome to look at text, specially black on white, on the monitor connected to the VGA port. There is a slight shadow on the right side of all letters. When looking at non-aliased fonts, they look as if aliased on the VGA connected monitor. Already aliased fonts tend to "smear" and I have the unpleasant feeling that my eyes are not focusing correctly.
My question is: Is there a different VGA DAC on the docking station, or are the analog signals just wired through from the laptop VGA DAC? Older IBM docks do not have this problem, we have a lot of them at work in dual head configuration with DVI + VGA to compare, and we only see this problem with the 2504.

VGA is an analogue signal... so it can be affected by the quality of DAC chip used by the GPU associated electronics, the quality of connectors on the vga out and dock (that is why good analgoue audio equipment use gold plated stuffs) and the quality of copper wire and shiedling used in the cable (i.e. Low Oxygen Content Copper wire).
The above is general description for all people to use <---- so please don't feel offended if i repeat something that is already said.
There is NO conversion electronics on the dock per se, they are just passthrough, so no conversion.
I guess the problem lies with improper shielding somewhere. I have the same problem with my T61/60 and dock and my T40,41,42,43 on five different docks.
So i have ended up using lenovo usb2dvi converter on T61 and have two dvi output and bypassed the vga altogether.

  • IMac and wacom cintiq 21 tablet problem

Hi, i have a serious problem with a first gen intel iMac and a new wacom cintiq 21 u tablet monitor. The problem is that when i connect the tablet to the imac all i get are the terrible red ripples. Adjusting monitor display settings does not help at all. Same tablet works great with a windows based laptop and the following generation imac. I'm using the following connection scheme for connecting tablet to the imac:
tablet dvi-I -> adapter to dvi-d (included with tablet) -> dvi-d to mini dvi-d adapter -> imac. imac does not have a port for direct dvi-I connection. Again, same connection scheme works just fine on the next model of imac.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem? Could it be an older version of OS?
    Thanks in adavnce.

Since you say that it won't work with a first gen iMac, but works with "next model", have you considered installing a earlier version of a driver? Could it be that the latest driver isn't being recognized? I know that it said "10.4/10.5", but I ran into a problem with some third party software updater that simply would not work with my 10.4.11 even though it stated 10.4/10.5 and once I reverted back to the previous version, everything worked as it should.

  • Might sound stupid to some, but how do you see the master levels?

I see audio levels for every single track, audio and midi,
but for the master fader, i just see the fader. Surely there
must be a way to see the level, right?

the master fader is just a fader, basically for adjusting monitoring level. the actual channel that contains the mix is the output channel 'out 1-2' (although you can have more than just one, 'out 3-4' etc). there you'll see levels just like any other channel. if you don't see one in your environment, just create a new audio object, double click on it and then in its parameter box set this object to be an 'out 1-2' and you're done.

  • Issue with the brightness slider (numeric value possible?)

As a retoucher I am supposed to keep accurate color management. I create my ICC Monitor profiles with an X-Rites i1XT meter. The screen calibration includes a brightness adjustment to meet a desired luminosity value (I choose to work on a 120cd/m level). My issue is that apples "brightness slider" wont define a value or percentage which I could associate with my current ICC profile. If I would for instance watch a movie in full brightness I could never get back to my previous brightness settings in order to maintain my desired color accuracy!
is there a way to read out or dial in a "brightness value" (maybe trough a script?)
does anyone know about an external tool that could help me (without interfering the ICCs)
    THX a lot,
    TIM

    1. This is a user to user forum. To send Apple your requests, use the Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback link.
    2. The brightness slider sets an electrical level for screen brightness, but the actual brightness depends on the age of the screen & other components, previous brightness level, manufacturing variations, etc. For this reason, even if you set the level to the same indicated value each time, this does not guarantee the actual brightness will remain the same, nor can you calibrate indicated values directly in cd/sqm over long periods of time. You will still periodically have to use the calibrator.
    3. You can use an Applescript to set the electrical level to a repeatable numeric value (although because of #2 above, this will not guarantee a repeatable actual screen brightness). See Any ideas on adjusting monitor brightness via AppleScript? for a suggested script. Note that you will need to change "Color LCD" in that script to whatever name your System Preferences > Displays > Display tab shows & change "0.8" to whatever brightness level you want (with 0 being darkest & 1 being brightest). You must also have GUI scripting enabled.
A more elaborate version of the script could save the current value for later recall or set different levels for different apps. For help with this, post in the AppleScript forum.

  • What computer(s) do you recommend for photoshop painting?

    Hi,
I have a 4-year Packard Bell laptop computer that running on its last legs. So it's time for me to buy a new computer. I plan on mainly using it for digital painting with photoshop cs6. Therefore a computer that's very compatible with the newest versions of photoshop and graphic tablets like intous 5 is critically important. I am, however, terribly indecisive when it comes to choosing which one as there are so many and I'm not exactly tech savvy. I do have a short list of preferences though, that should help narrow down the dicision-making a bit:
    - desktop computer
    - large adjustable monitor
    - compatible with photoshop cs6 + premium graphic tablets
    - no Apple computer
    - under $1500
It´s been suggested that I "build" my own computer, however this I do not want to do.
    Thanks!

I believe JJ got a refurbished Dell Precision T5600 6 core workstation there not long ago and it sounds like he likes it very much.  It's no surprise -they're great systems.
Mine is a refurbished Precision T5500 dual processor system (12 cores in all) that I got a year ago from an eBay reseller, and because I spent a little more than JJ and got dual high-end processors my CPU performance even today ranks 11th highest on the Passmark CPU Mark list of all-time fastest multiple CPU systems.
The point is that these systems are amazing performers, being outpaced only by systems that cost thousands more.  They're not really cheap, but the price is actually reasonable since they're used/refurbished.  And they're about as future proof as any system you'll find.
Both JJ and I actually got 3 year Dell warranties with our systems (correct me if I'm wrong, JJ).
SquirrelMonkey88, your task is now to learn and understand everything about computer systems, so that you can pick a system that fits you well.  You're doing the right thing, asking experts.
Generally speaking, you might look for a platform that has the right processor(s), and maybe all the RAM you'll need, but with the cheapest possible video card.  Then you can replace the video card with one that will run Photoshop and the Creative Suite well, and maybe add disk drives.
Here are just some quick examples, available right now:
    1.  Precision T5600 with 6 core Xeon E5-2620, 16 GB RAM, and 500GB hard drive - $1399.98.  Add a 256 GB OCZ Vector SSD for $270 more, and an ATI Radeon HD 7750 for another $105.  You can add a second processor, more RAM, more disk drives or SSDs in the future to expand the system.
    2.  Precision T5500 with 2 x 6 core Xeon E5645, 24 GB ECC RAM, and 1TB hard drive - $1899.99.  Add an ATI Radeon HD 7850 for another $200.  Add more disk drives/SSDs in the future.
You could go directly to Dell's refurbished sales site as well and possibly find similar deals.
