Adjust volume in the Timeline

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premiereelements/using/WS1A3D95C5-EF05-4efb-A7DB-73B74CC97168. html

Thanks Steve,
That was the differentiation…  Audio gain was the correct selection.  I was able to use the "normalize" button to automatically select the peak audio level at "max-bit."

  • How to adjust volume on Audio Timelines

A couple questions about volume adjustment on the various Audio Timelines on Premiere Pro CS 5.
    1) How to adjust volume level of an mp3 on the Audio 2 timeline?
    2) How to adjust or mute volume of an 'individual' video clip on the Video 1 and Audio 1 timeline? (I have many clips on the timeline and know how to mute them all, but in this case, I'm looking to only mute certain clips in the timeline.)

Along with the material covered in the Help File, that Ann linked to, see this ARTICLE. It goes into a little more detail on the differences between Clip Keyframes and Track Keyframes (generated with Audio Mixer). While the effect of those can be the same, there are nuances, that one should make note of.

  • Adjust effects in the timeline

Hi all, thanks in advance for your answers to this...
I still can't figure out how to adjust effect parameters of a clip in the timeline... It seems like sometimes when I right click (w mighty mouse) on a clip in the timeline, instead of pulling up the paste attributes, etc menu, it pulls up a smaller one that lists only the effects on that certain clip.
Of course, in crunch deadline situations (which more and more these days seems like every second of my edit day) this would save oodles of time since I wouldn't have to open the clip in the browser and navigate through the effects menu to make a simple adjustment. Usually I will put standard color correction effects on clips and know exactly what to adjust, so this shortcut could potentially save me days of time (bwahahaha!) so I can maybe finish at 6 or 630 instead of 8 or 830 every night.
Thanks, I appreciate you all making my life more diverse through enlightening me to this shortcut.

OK, I think I've found what you want...kinda, sorta...
FCP5 manual Vol. III, pg. 286, discusses "Working with the Timeline Keyframe Editor"
First, you have to already have keyframes placed. Next, activate the 'Clip Keyframes' toggle (bottom left of the timeline), then contol-click (right-click) on the same Clip Keyframes toggle/control and choose Video or Audio or Select All for both.
Now you right-click in the keyframe editor area beneath the clip you want to work on and choose the filter or motion parameter you want to display.
At this point you can drag individual keyframes up/down, back/forth with numeric representation of your parameter...but it doesn't give you a way to 'type in' a parameter that I can see.
    Hope that helps,

  • TS5150 How do I adjust volume with the remote?

Am I missing something? When I play YouTube from my atv I can't seem to adjust the volume. Am I supposed to use a separate remote for the tv? Shouldn't ATV have a built in ability to adjust the volume?

Yes, you use your TV or AV amp remote to alter sound volume...

  • Adjusting Audio Pan in the Timeline

In the FCE 3.0 help pdf. manual there is a heading for a section: "Adjusting Volume Levels and Pan in the Timeline," but I can't find anywhere that it says anything about adjusting the pan in the timeline, just the levels.
I know how to adjust pan in the viewer, but is there actually a way to do it in the timeline also?

Martin, Thanks, but actually the sound mix on my project is presently quite complex as a clip by clip change in balance from left to right (depending on whether dialogue, sound effects, music, etc.) and I plan on adjusting the pan on each clip individually to especially retain the stereo effect of the music. I just thought it was sort of confusing that the help manual has a section heading on how to adjust pan in the timeline but then doesn't address the issue.
Thanks again, I may end up taking your advice.
    Hi Fran,
The only way I know of doing it to all of your
clips in the timeline at once would be to select one
audio clip, and adjust the pan to center (which is
what I believe you want to do, based on your earlier
post). Then select all other audio clips in
the timeline and do Paste Attributes (of course,
having selected just the Pan attribute before
clicking OK in the Paste Attributes window.
For more info, look under "Copying, Pasting &
Removing Clip Attributes" in your FCE manual. In the
FCEHD manual it's in Ch. 16 "Editing in the
    Timeline"

  • Sound volume manipulation within the timeline

Is there any way to manipulate the volume in the timeline other than the "all-or-nothing"? I would like to fade the imported sound file by fading in and out at points of my choosing. I've searched "Help" as well as Mr. Wolsky's "Final Cut Express Editing Workshop' but have found nothing on the subject. Thanks in advance...

    Hi
Turn on "Rubber-band" in the Audio Clips (small box with a zig-zag line)
    Timeline window - down botten left - speaker -> lines -> ZIG-ZAG
Now use the pen tool and set a point on this line in clip of interest
then set a new point before this or after and drag this up or down to
eg make a fade in - starts as an up-slope.

  • Adjusting volume

How can I adjust the volume for the incoming calls? I can barely here the other person on the other end

You press the control on the left up or down to adjust volume.
The users manual is here: http://www.apple.com/support/manuals/
If your rocker doesn't work, them reset, if still doesn't work then restore, if still doesn't work repair.

  • Cannot adjust volume during calls on iPhone 6 (using EarPods)

I cannot adjust my volume on the iPhone 6 during the call on the EarPods. I can only adjust volume while the call is ringing or before a call, but once the person picks up, neither the phone's buttons or EarPods would adjust volume. It's once when I hang up and my music starts playing again, the music blasts my ear from the volume change I did (during the call).
The volume button works fine during calls when I don't use any earphones.
Is there a way to fix this?

    Good Afternoon lopakamac,
If you are having trouble hearing a conversation on your iPhone, try the following steps:
If you can't hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound quality is poor on iPhone - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203800
    Turn up the volume
While you're on a call, adjust the volume with the volume buttons:
Also while you're on a call, make sure that you can see the volume indicator on the screen when you press the volume buttons:
    Check the connections
If your iPhone is connected to a headset, you won't be able to hear through the iPhone receiver or using speakerphone. Follow these steps, testing after each.
Make sure that you don't have anything plugged in to the headphone jack or the dock connector.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth.
    Clear the receiver
The iPhone receiver won't work properly if it's blocked or dirty. Here's where the receiver is:
Follow these steps, testing after each:
Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver, such as a case or film.
If you have a new iPhone, remove the plastic film on the front and back of the device.
Check the receiver opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the receiver opening with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
While you're on a call, turn on speakerphone. If you still can't hear, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try calling again later or from a different location.
    Restart and update
Restart your iPhone and test again.
If there's still no sound or poor sound quality, update to the latest version of iOS.
    Get more help
If you've tried these steps and there's still no sound or poor sound quality from your iPhone, contact Apple Support.

  • Adjusting Volume on Droid X

To ensure you are getting the best volume out of your Droid X, be sure to double check these settings on your new device!
    -Menu
    -Settings
    -Sound and Display Settings
*Ensure that Silent mode is not checked (if you want audible sound)
*Check that your Ringer Volume is set at the appropriate volume level.
*Check that your Media Volume (for music and videos) is set to the volume level. *In addition check your Media Audio Effects option to ensure it is set to whatever device you may be using it with (wired stereo device) or just the phones speaker.
*Ensure that your Phone Ringtone is set to an audible sound, or a sound that is loud enough to alert you (some sounds may be softer than others)
*Ensure that your Notification Ringtone is set to an audible sound or a sound that is loud enough to alert you. (again, some sounds may be softer than others)
Check out more information at http://search.vzw.com/?do=viewdoc&id=33910
Note: If you have an alarm set, ensure that all the above is set to the desired volume levels, and if you have a task killer, do not end task/kill the alarm clock program. Ending the task, or killing the application will cause your alarm to not respond at the appropriate time. Depending on the task killer you can set the alarm clock program to be an exception when killing a task.
If the above does not resolve the issue, a soft reset would be recommended. A soft reset is pulling the battery out of the device for a few seconds, and placing it back in.
This information as well as other informaiton you may need on your new device can be found by selecting your model number and manufacture on our support site www.verizonwireless.com/support. Here you can do a quick search for what you are looking for.
    Hope this helps!

    Dear moates (Verizon Wireless Employee),
Although it is very kind of you to post info on adjusting volume on the Droid X, Droid X users may reasonably find your post frustrating if not insulting and/or offensive.
The alleged low volume/speaker issue/problem on certain batches or units of the Droid X is well documented by dozens, even hundreds (probably thousands) of Droid X owners on many different forums (Verizon forums, Droid forums, Android forums, etc.). All of these forum threads contain the information that you put in your post. In addition, the information that you put in your post is available in the Droid X manual, over the phone from Verizon tech support, and in many other forum posts. In short, you have said nothing new. The reason many Droid X owners may find this frustrating if not insulting and/or offensive is that many of them have already repeatedly gone through every detail in your post (and more) while on the phone with Verizon and Motorola tech support, while still experiencing a serious low volume/speaker problem on their Droid X. Nonetheless, the vast majority of Verizon tech support employees continue to tell Droid X owners who call in to report/document the alleged low volume/speaker issue/problem that Verizon has no knowledge of any such problem. Oddly, some Verizon tech support employees tell Droid X owners who call in to report the problem that Verizon knows about the problem and that a firmware fix is in the works. This inconsistency is troubling to many Droid X owners.
Whether the volume/speaker problem only plagues certain Droid X batches/units, and whether the volume/speaker problem is due to hardware or to firmware, in any case a firmware update that increases the potential volume of all Droid X units will help solve the problem.
Here are just two forum threads that contain reports of the alleged volume/speaker problem on the Droid X, even when all volume settings are adjusted to play the maximum volume level (note that when Verizon rearranged the forum communities, some of the forum posts/threads were cut off in some links, while some of the threads continue on in the relevant newly arranged forum community):
    1) http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/Volume-issue-on-new-Droid-X/td-p/227520;jsessionid=1BF0216A30F98F0470050FD66E67A3AA
    2) http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-general-discussions/59913-droid-x-speaker-volume.html
What would be helpful is for representatives from Verizon (such as yourself) to comment on the actual problem: the large number of Droid X owners who experience very low volume/speaker performance even when the obvious settings on the phone (and listed in your recent forum post) are doubled-checked. Would you like us to organize a public online petition? A class action law suit? Most Droid X owners are not hostile and do not want to go those routes because they love their new phones as well as Verizon's otherwise excellent services. One of the only problems is the failure of Verizon adequately to address the alleged low volume/speaker issue/problem. A forum post that lists known information is inadequate because it makes no progress towards solving, reducing, and/or addressing the problem.
Could you give Droid X owners the courtesy of a more direct response to the allegedly very low volume/speaker problems that persist even when the settings listed in your post are appropiately adjusted and double-checked?
    Thank you for your consideration.

  • Adjusting audio of multiple clips in the timeline simultaneously

Is there a way to adjust the audio volume of multiple clips in the timeline simultaneously?

Or you can send the whole things over to Audition and work in multitrack there.
I like to get everything edited in Prmiere and then send the audio (I never bother with a refernce video) to Audition for finish work.  There you can apply effects to individual clips, individual tracks or the entire mix.  I always put a hard limiter on the Master track at -3dB to prevent clipping.  Since this is the last filter in the chain I can boost other clips first and still know that my audio will never be too loud

I have a mid-2009 MBP and I've been using my BOSE Companion 20 with it for about half a year now. It was fine until recently, when i want to adjust the volume using the pod on the BOSE Companion 20, it will cause like a surge in volume, spiking it up and down. It will not stablise itself! It's very fustrating. Anybody with the same issue?

I have the BOSE Companion 5 speakers and have had the same problem. I've searched everywhere and gotten nowhere. My speakers are way past their warranty, so calling Bose would probably get me no where either. Only thing I can think of is that the speakers overheat which causes the spikes in the volume. I've tried unplugging them for a few minutes and then plug them back on. The problem does go away, but after about 5 minutes, same problem.

  • I am unable to adjust the Master volume in the Audio MIDI Setup utility.

For either built-in Input or Output. The systems effected are:
    MacBook Pro, 13-inch, Mid 2012 (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 11E2617).
    iMac, 20-inch, Mid 2007 (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 11E53).
The volume can otherwise be adjusted via the Sound sytem preferences or the volume control in the Finder's menu bar. I can even adjust the volume for the individual channels for Buil-in Input and Output within Audio MIDI Setup. It is only the Mater volume that can't be adjusted.
Does anyone have any insight as to why this might be? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I have Iphone4s 16GB, IOS7.0.4 updates having a problem , that when i press + or - volume keys while my iphone is ringing my iphone 4s goes silent .
Whereas you know silent key is used to make the ringing phone silent. This button is working ok while only problem is my iphone goes silent while pressing + or - volume keys as these keys should increase / lower the ringing volume . These keys were ok working in IOS 6.
Where as these keys are also working ok  in music player of iphone for IOS 7, the only problem is for ringing.

  • Captivate version 4, adjusting the timeline

In the Captivate 4 Help, it says the following:
"You can adjust the zoom level of the Timeline easily. Click in the  Timeline ruler and spin the mouse wheel on your mouse to increase or  decrease the zoom level. Alternatively, use keystrokes to change the  zoom level. Click the ruler and then press Control+[ to decrease the  zoom level, Control+] to increase the zoom level, or Control+W to set  the zoom level so that all objects will fit in the current Timeline."
This all works fine - EXCEPT - when I use Control+W to try to set the zoom level so that all objects fit within the current Timeline. When I use this keyboard combination the Captivate project tries to close itself. Is this an error in the Help file or am I doing something wrong?

That was strange - when I opened this topic there was no reply but now I see your reply Lieve.

  • Why I am unable to adjust the ringer volume by the side buttons and there is no ringer with the Mute button OFF

With the mute switch OFF - I am unable to adjust the ringer volume by the side buttons.
When someone calls/texts there is no sound coming from the speaker.
The headphone jack works when I listen to the Ipod and the speaker works when I change the ringer volume through settings.  So i know that the speaker does work
Headphone jack seems clean and dust free
I heard that there may be a Skype issue than can control the speaker volume - so i deleted it but i still cannot get any sound from regular functions.
When I play the Ipod through the speaker with no headphones there is no option to change the volume and no sound.
If it works when i go through settings to set my ring volume, my ringtone plays - then why does it not work otherwise?

I have Iphone4s 16GB, IOS7.0.4 updates having a problem , that when i press + or - volume keys while my iphone is ringing my iphone 4s goes silent .
