Adjusting audio in DVD Pro

I need to lower the blasting (literally) audio in my menu, which I have read can't be done in DVD SP. Bummer. I read you must do it outside of that, which is fine, but I only have Quicktime Player, not Quicktime itself, and Garageband also blasts the volume even when I manually lower the waveform, and I can't seem to find a format from After Effects that DVDSP will read in the Menu. I don't know how to use Soundtrack Pro or Motion, unless you could easily explain how to change audio there (if even it would work)

For the record, I just rendered from AE as a WAV which worked, but it was as loud as before I changed the waveform there, too. HELP!

Hi lindsaydl, how's it going?
What the Wine Snob said is correct, but if you'd like to adjust the audio levels inside of Premiere all you need to do is add keyframes.
To do this, expand the audio track you want to adjust by clicking the little triangle just to the left of the track name. This will open up the track for editing. You can make the track taller, by pulling the bottom of it, just under the track title, down. Now, you just place your cursor over where you would like to add a keyframe, hold down the control button, and click on the yellow line. This will add a keyframe that you can pull up to make the volume louder, or down to lower it.
Use multiple keyframes to fade in/out, or you could also just cut the clip into pieces and adjust the volume of the separate pieces. I actually prefer working this way, myself, because if I decide to make an additional change, I don't have to go back to Soundbooth or another app to make adjustments. Although, one thing that I do is to clean up recorded dialogue before bringing it into Premiere in the first place. I usually do this in GoldWave or sometimes in Audacity.

FCP Audio is Quiet when exported to iphone or used with DVD Pro

I recorded a voice over with an external mic through a pre-amp into STP, boosted the db level of the recording in STP with the master gain on a channel EQ effect and exported it out as an AIFF file. I imported the AIFF into FCP, put it under video and adjusted the audio levels so the peak db is between -12 and -6 - everything sounds great from the canvas. I then exported the entire video to m4v to be played on an iphone and .mov (through QT not Compressor) to be burned with DVD Pro.
The audio on the DVD works fine in my mac computer and even works fine via blue tooth to my car stereo (using my iphone), but the audio is either quiet or slightly distorted (sometimes sounds like it's underwater) when played in a regular console DVD player or played on my iphone's speakers.
Here is what I have done so far - the STP audio is 48 hz 24 bit and I originally had my FCP sequence settings at 16 bit. I switched this to 24 bit midstream in FCP - is this an issue? Otherwise - I have tried a bunch of stuff, e.g. power line hum is negative in STP and there is very little underlying noise in the original recording based on analyzing with the Noise Reduction in STP.
Has anyone dealt with this issue or aware of a db/audio compatibility problem between STP and FCP or an export problem with FCP in this situation? Please let me know if anyone has any information or solutions. Thank you.

My export out of STP is 6 tracks - including a submix and a master - but I don't even use those (I'm not a seasoned user on STP - I basically exported them by mistake). I end up deleting 4 tracks (the submix and blank master) and keeping the stereo channel that I directly recorded.
However, by way of background, I had this same issue using a Garageband AIF file. It was too quiet and garbled upon export from FCP as well. That is why I switched to STP to use its better EQ/gain boosters. Please advise with any thoughts. Thanks.

Best way to adjust audio on Final Cut Pro 5 Quicktime Export?? Render files

What is the best way to adjust audio on Final Cut Pro, Quicktime self-contained export? Please note all render files and orginals master clip are gone. So adjustments will need somehow be made to the exported Quicktime file.

I just had a go and can reproduce the problem straight away too.
Created a new project then a new XDCAM EX 1080p25 sequence. Imported a short Sony PMW-350 clip. Dragging it straight to the timeline and then setting audio gain is OK (Source channel mapping preferences set to mono).
However, if I Modify - Audio Channels and then set track format as stereo or mono as stereo and then drag the clip to the timeline and right click - gain, Premiere crashes about 1/2 to 1 second after the audio gain dialogue box appears. Error log below if it's useful.

Can't adjust recording level with M-Audio Fast Track Pro

I downloaded the appropriate driver for my M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface & everything looks fine... BUT I can't adjust the Recording level at all. I am not sure if this is an issue with the M-audio device, or garage band??? It is driving me crazy, since I just want to make some music and can't even hear what is being recorded. ???

Thanks, .... Yes to all of the above. I am wracking my brain & will call M-Audio tomorrow. Everything looks perfect on the interface & on garage band - but, even though the Fast track Pro shows up in my sound preferences & I can select it as the input & output source, etc., when I go to its window, even hooked up, it says no "device is not connected." Then it details that there are "no input controls" under sound in system preferences. I have two working usb cords & it does the same on either. I think this is the problem & have no idea how to fix it. I just want to plug it all in and record & have lost So much time . Hmmmmm???

Just video no audio from Compressor 4 to DVD PRO-What's wrong

I have successfully sent my project from FCP7 to Compressor 4 and compressed it on Best Quality DVD 90 minutes. Once I bring in the file as an Asset in DVD PRO I just get the video part of the compression no audio. I also get a incompatible file pop up window sometimes. Any ideas on how I can solve these
2 problems. I have run out of ideas-this is the 4th or 5th day I have been working on these problems. Thanks.

no audio as in the ac3 file is in the DVDSP track but its silent ?
or you cant get Compressor to produce an ac3 file ?

Status lights in DVD Pro

Just recently I have started having an issue in DVD pro. I complete a sequence in FCP save it export it as a Quicktime movie then open DVD pro import assets, and the two status lights next to the audio vieo files are yellow instead of green. I have been doing it this way for some time, and it has always worked fine, and the two little lights were always green until just recently. Can somebody tell me what might be causing this.

Why does DVD Pro degrade the quality of my QT movies

SUMMARY
I have only been using Final Cut Studio for a couple of months, but have achieved good quality QT files for burning in DVD Studio Pro. Up to the stage of Compressor, the quality looks good. But import the files into DVD Pro and the image becomes blurred.
If there is anyone out there who may be able to help I will willingly go into the depths of detail.

I am trying to create the best quality DVD I can achieve using the following mixed input media
1 avi Output from Camtasia Studio screen capture software which is captured "full screen" at 1024x640 by my client
(This could be output directly at 1024x576 by cropping before saving and can be QT mov format if necessary - however so far I have been converting to QTmov directly before editing the client files in FCP to add transitions not available in Camtasia Studio)
2 Quicktime movies created in Flash output at 1024x576 - these include digital images, Photoshop and Illustrator files
3 dv PAL footage captured 16:9 anamorphic
My workflow approach has been to edit in FCP, including sending to Soundtrack Pro Audio Project, then to export Using Compressor with the intention of importing the edited file into DVD Pro.
However the Preview in Compressor has shown disappointing resolution and I don't have the knowledge to choose the best settings. I have tried many combinations to the point that I have thoroughly confused myself.
At this stage I need a "guru" who can suggest the best settings throughout to achieve the optimum result.
In answer to your other question, the potential viewer is likely to be viewing on a PC using Windows Media Player or on a Mac using DVD player, BUT I also want the DVD to be playable on a set top DVD player.
I am viewing my production on my Mac monitor which as you can see above is high res.

How do I transfer my final cut pro project into dvd pro to be exported?

i can't get the firewire output to the beta deck. have an ADVC-110 media converter. so the setup is firewire (4 or 6-pin, have tried both) video/audio output of the mac, into the canopus, then from the red/white/yellow outputs there is a stereo pair of RCA cables with XLR adapters going to a Beta SP deck. I've gotten other signals in and out of the decks and input/outputs on the canopus. problem has definitely been narrowed down to the mac, or final cut pro. i've set every setting i can find to apple firewire but still can't get it. any ideas?...

How do I make volume level adjustments in a single clip on the FCP-X timeline? I have a music bed and need to adjust audio levels at various points in the song. In past Final Cut programs. This should be very easy but I can't find how to do it in Final Cut Pro-X. I don't want to adjust the entire clip.
Also, I recorded voice on channel 2 and shot gun on channel 1. I only want the voice (channel 2). How can I select a individual channel once I have edited the piece. I know I can re-import the video and designate which channel to bring in but I don't want to have to do that.

Select a range and lower the level, or hold the Option key to click on the level line to add a keyframe.

FCP to DVD Pro

I have been helping a friend who is using FCP 5.1.4 on a 1GHz G4 - with 2GB RAM running, slowly, Tiger. After finishing a project in FCP i want to Import it to DVD Pro. I have been changing this finished project file to MPEG2 and then importing to DVD Pro to make a DVD BUT - once changed to MPEG2 the 16:9 aspect of my clips in FCP become 4:3. Can someone give me a step by step of how to Import to DVD Pro from a completed FCP project so I can burn a DVD. please? Any answers much appreciated.

Starting in FCP, export a quicktime movie from the completed finished sequence - using FIle > Export > Quicktime Movie . . .
When the pane opens up to save the export, make sure you are using Current Settings, and "Make movie self contained" needs to be checked.
Once it has exported, open Compressor and compress the file using the appropriate DVD settings from the Compressor DVD presets.
Once the seperate Video and Audio files have been compressed, open DVD Studio Pro and import the Video and Audio files from Compressor by using File > Import > Asset.
From there you should be good to go to add your menu, etc, and burn your DVD.

Finished project in FCP X. Compressed as Pro res 422 and imported into DVD Studio Pro. File was too big = 5.6 Gb. Went back into project and separated the video from the audio in all clips where the talking head was not visible (covered by other images). Deleted the video component in all clips. Recompressed with same settings and to my surprise, the file when imported back into DVD Pro appears to be the same size. Thought it would be MUCH smaller without the video component. Why didn't this change anything?

This workflow is wrong for DVD creation.
What you should be doing is:
export a QT file from FCP self contained with current settings.
take the QT file into Compressor and create an m2v video and an AC3 audio file
import those into DVDSP and author.

Sync Goes Out on Several Clips AFter DVD Pro Burn

This problem existed on several clips that were relatively close together in timeline. As this is a 52' video with many cuts and multi-tracks, I tried using the audio mixdown render in FCP and then burned again. There was an improvement, but I still have one clip out of sync.
Any ideas on what else to do?
I'm exporting to QT Conversion and encoding as high as I can push the DVD Pro encoder - to around 7.2.

I'm correcting what I reported earlier. The sync goes out on the output from FCP. This is NOT a DVD STUDIO PRO problem! I'm using the QUICKTIME CONVERSION option on the output.

When I was looking to do the same I didn't find a tutorial, but cobbled together the how to from various sources. Some things I learned:
DVDSP will be a 5.1 project if the aac audio is a 5.1 mix. The key is how to get a 5.1 mix. I used STPro which can output an aac track directly (no need for compressor). There are a number of steps inside Soundtrack to configure and output 5.1 inclusing setting each track to 1-6 output, setting the bus to 1-6 outputs and setting the master output as 1-6.
It's also possible to setup FCP for 5.1. As above I used STPro.
