Adjusting audio volume for all slides?

I can easily do this for one slide, but when I Shift-click to
select all slides, then apply Captivate's Audio / Edit Timing menu
option, the dialog shows me an Adjust Volume option that adjusts
the volume for all slides in the movie. But, when I adjust the
volume and press OK to exit the dialog, the new volume setting is
not saved with my movie. Is this a bug? Anyone?

Hi boonedogr and welcome to our community
In the words of Yoda: Hmmm, seems a bug we have found!
So here is how to make it stick.
1. Click Audio > Edit timing... and you should see the
"Edit Audio Timing" dialog.
2. Click the Insert Silence toolbar button. This should
produce the "Insert Silence" dialog.
3. Change the "Insert" field so it reflects 0.001seconds of
silence.
This step is necessary to trick Captivate into accepting the
audio has indeed changed. I use 0.001 seconds as it is the minimum
you can insert and it should have absolutely no discernable effect
on your movie.
4. Now click the Adjust Volume button to see the "Adjust
Volume" dialog where you can alter the volume level as well as
boost dynamics and whatnot.
5. Make adjustments as desired.
6. Click OK to dismiss the Adjust Volume dialog.
7. Click OK to dismiss the Edit Audio Timing dialog
At this point, you should notice several progress indicators
as the audio clips for all slides with audio are adjusted to
reflect your new settings.
*NOTE: This will have no effect on Background Audio or Object
Level Audio. Those clips will need to be adjusted manually as a
separate process.
Hope this helps a bit... Rick

  • Adjust Volume Across All Slides In Project

    Captivate v5.5
Does anyone have any experience in working with the Audio/Edit/Adjust Volume option in Captivate v5.5?
I have created a project over a few days and the level of volume of some of the slides varies - some louder some not so loud and I now need to set the same audio level for all the slides.
I have tried the above option (for the project) but this makes no difference.
Can anyone help me with suggested settings for the above that will result in the same volume level for all slides?
    Noel

My request for guidance was due to the fact I could not get the "Noramlise" option to work for my project's entire audio - and assumed I was doing something wrong.
In fact I dont think I was doing anything wrong...I think it is Captivate that is at fault!!!!
Here is the situation - in full.
Working in v5.5 I want to "normalise" the audio of all slides in a project.
I go: Audio/Edit/Project and get following:
    (Keep in mind...I selected "Project").
    Next I open "Adjust Volume"
    Select "Normalise" and click OK....
The result was no change to my project audio - and that was why I contacted the forum.
Since then I have found out what would seem to be a bug or a design fault (same thing some would say)
    Despite my selecting "Project"
You have to right click the audio and then "Select All" before the changes to the project's audio will work. Having selected "Project" I would have expected the audio for the project would have been selected - or at least a pop up to inform you to select all the audio before making changes.

  • My Ipad 2 external speakers does not work and headphones has popping sound. This all occured at the same time as my Iphone and Ipod headphones only played mono (no, the "mono" option is not on). How can there be audio issue for all these devices?

My IPad 2 external speaker does not work and the original headphones have popping sound when used. This all occurred at the same time as my IPhone and IPod headphones only plays mono (and no, the "mono" option is not on) with the original headphones, as well as, other headphones tested.  How can there be audio issue for all these devices at the same time?
As you may have noted from the list of Apple devices I own, I believed in the Apple and the products it was producing; but it is hard to believe from my experience and the other voices within the Apple Community that we are all experiencing the same hardware issues. Especially since I recently, I upgraded to an IPhone 4g (no, my faith in IPhone 5 series is very little) and is experiencing the same audio problem as described above. So now, I am off to the Apple store again to be told that it’s a hardware problem on new IPhone. Really? Apple, what happen to the pride in the product you were producing?

Everyone does things a little differently. I love to "jam " along with iTunes ( or old Lp's) . Always have. That's where/how I've learned to play .
I'm sure leonieDF is giving a proper way to jam along on a keyboard with an iTune. He blows my mind all the time with what he knows. Nuff respects to him !
What I do is make a GB project I call "Jam With". I'll make several new tracks that are blank. Just has a few instruments named in the blank tracks. You can change those per song ...
Because I'm not concerned about changing the pitch / key.... of the iTune or the tempo ... I can simply play along with it.

  • How do you change/adjust border width for all the cells in a table created in Pages?

How do you change/adjust border width for all the cells in a table created in Pages?
Note- I am trying to figure out how to create and format tables in the latest version of the Pages app on an iPad air (iOS 8.1.1.1) . Creating tables, adding or removing borders for individual/all cells in a table seems straight forward. However the default border style seems to be a heavy black line. How do I change this?
I found the option add or remove borders for all/ individual cells in a table, however I can't find any option within style/format dialogue screens for changing colour or line thickness for table cells. Likewise I can't find any clear instructions on how to do this in apple help pages or support website
Btw- I'm assuming  it is possible to customize/adjust the colour & thickness of selected lines in a table created in this app (it's fairly easy to do this word processing apps like MS Word) please let me  know if this is not actually possible in Pages

They know perfectly well what they took out of Pages '09.
    Well over 90 features.
Do you think you posting feedback is going to remind them of what they did?

  • Flash player crashes when adjusting audio volume

MacBook Pro, OS X Version 10.9.5
    Safari internet browser, version 7.1
I am taking online classes via megameeting.com.  When loading the classroom, flash works perfectly fine.  However, as soon as I adjust the computer's audio volume (either by pressing the keyboard button or manually clicking and dragging the volume adjustment slider bar on my desktop), I immediately get a white screen with a gray "plugin failure" message.
I can run the same classroom simultaneously on the same computer utilizing google chrome, and flash does not crash on the chrome browser when I adjust the volume.
I followed the directions to perform a clean uninstall and reinstall (running Flash version 15), and I still have the same problem.  My settings are set to allow internet plugins.  So far, I have not detected this problem where adjusting the audio volume crashes flash on other websites.  Any help?

  • Adjusting Audio Volume Levels

Often, one has Audio that is too loud, or too soft. Sometimes, they have added a music Track, that needs to drop down to clearly hear the dialog from another Clip. While there are Audio-editing programs, like Audition, SoundBooth, and even the free Audacity, PrE, or PrPro can handle such adjustment just fine. These adjustments can be made for the entire Clip, or can be Keyframed over time.
First method, and not one that I recommend, is to adjust the Audio Gain of the Audio Clip. This is done by either Rt-clicking on a separate Audio Clip, or by first Alt-clicking, and then Rt-clicking on a Muxed Audio Clip (Multiplexed with both Video and Audio in one file). Then, one would choose Audio Gain, and adjust that. This method will also allow one to then adjust the Volume by a greater amount, and has the bonus of increasing the Waveform Dislay vertically.
The next method is to look at the Audio Clip (or the Audio portion of a Muxed Clip), and click-drag on the yellow-orange “rubberband” for Volume, and move it up, or down. This can be Keyframed, but the next method is much better and more precise, in my estimation.
My first choice is to adjust the fixed Effect>Volume. This is done from the Effects Control Panel, and it is very easy to Keyframe these adjustments over time. This is much more accurate, and actually easier, than click-dragging the rubberbands in the Clip itself. Accessing the Effects Control Panel is slightly different, from PrE to PrPro. In PrE, one would Select the Audio Clip, then go to the Effects Tab, and choose Edit Effects, locating the Volume Effects and twirling it open to view the slider. In PrPro, if one does not already have the Effects Control Panel in a Pane in the GUI, it would be accessed from Window>Effects Control Panel. With the Audio Clip Selected, one would locate the fixed Volume Effect, twirl that open, and make the same adjustments, including Keyframes, if necessary. These will be Clip Keyframes, and will follow that Clip, where ever you move it. This is a difference from the next method.
My other choice would be to use the Audio Mixer (Window>Audio Mixer, if not open), and to automate the Volume settings. This is accomplished by playing the Timeline and adjusting the sliders for Volume for each Track. In PrPro, one would first set the Send to Write, or Touch, to make those adjustments, then switch back to Read, when done. There are no adjustable Sends in PrE, so one is always in Read, until adjustments are made, and then it’s set to Write, but you will not see this change. After you are done, you can playback the Timeline, and watch the slider(s) automatically move. These will be Track Keyframes, and will remain on the Track, regardless of what Clips you add/remove from that area of the Track. Unlike the Clip Keyframes, these will NOT follow the Clip.
One can toggle the Keyframe of an Audio Track between Clip, or Track. Also, the default frequency of Audio Track Keyframes in PrE & PrPro is a bit high, in my opinion. I drop these down a bit in Edit>Preferences.
For the Keyframing, one can alter the Velocity of the Keyframes to Bezier from Linear, and the adjustments will be a bit smoother. Besides the Bezier, one can use Ease-Out and Ease-In, which are Bezier, but basically in a Preset. In PrPro, one has several different Bezier options. In PrE, one is a bit more limited.
For setting the Volume, I recommend that one only glance at the Levels Meters (unless they are peaking in the red), and instead use a pair of high-quality headphones (noise canceling models are worth the money), or fully calibrated studio monitors. Let your ears make the decisions for you, as the dB settings should only be a starting point.
In PrPro, one can also Rt-click on the Audio Clip, and choose Edit in Audition (if you have it installed), or Edit n Soundbooth (if you have one of the suites).
Here is a look at Audio Keyframes in PrPro 2.0. Things are similar in PrPro later versions, and also in PrE, with the above noted differences:

  • Can't adjust audio keyframes for certain sequences?!

I have a Sequence that I used Pluraleyes on (syncs multiple cameras automatically) but to do this, you're reuired to export a FCP .xml, import it in Pluraleyes, run the sync, which it exports a new FCP .xml, which you have to import back into Premiere... but now I've lost the ability to adjust ANY Audio keyframes! The Keyframe switch on the left of the timeline just stay greyed ouy for all my video clips!
I've created new sequences and dropped the same video into those, and it works fine...
Does anyone know why, and how to fix it?
    Thanks all!
    Aza

Nevermind, figured it out... Pluraleyes was somehow splitting the stereo audio into two mono tracks upon import into premiere, and I guess this confused Premiere...
Not sure if this is a Premiere .xml import bug, or a Pluraleyes bug...

  • Can I adjust the time for each slide?

I'm making videos out my own photos.
I've figured out how to upload the photos, record a commentary, etc. but I need to adjust the time that each slide is shown. This is because the videos are how-to's, and some explanations are longer than others, and in that case the slide needs to stay on longer.
I'm using iMovie 08 and can't upgrade because I'm still on OSX 10.5.8.
    Thanks!
    Gina

There should be a Duration button at the bottom left of the photo thumbnail in your project. Click this button and you will see a dialog box where you can adjust the duration. Be sure not to check the box that say "apply to all photos".

  • CANNOT ADJUST AUDIO VOLUME IN BEATS AUDIO

I am no longer able to adjust the volume level in my HP PaVILION DV7 NOTEBOOK.  I also get a crackling noise from my speakers.

I have the same problem on my 2011 Macbook Pro.
I've been using my computer with my lid closed and on external speakers and monitor and bluetooth devices for days on end and I haven't found a solution.
Has anyone out there found a solution yet?
This was the only place I found so far with the same exact issue I have.

  • Adjust auto leading for all paragraphs

    Hi-
I want to increase my auto leading from 115% to 125% for all "Normal style"paragraphs in my document.
I know that I usually have to apply the paragraph style to the ones I want changed, but this document has hundreds of paragraphs, I can't do it manually.
I read in another post that the trick is to change the basic paragraph style and then have it as base for the ones I want to change.
I did that, but it does not affect anything other than the paragraphs that apply the styles to manually.
    What can I do? Lars

Auto leading amaount is set in the paragraph style definition in the Justification section. If you've manually changed it for some paragraphs it's probably now a local overide that needs to be removed. You should be able to do that using Find/Change and searching for the paragraph style, then replace with the same style. That should remove ALL local overrides, so if you have others, they will be lost.

  • Is there a way to adjust the volume on all clips so they all have the same volume?

I'm making a highlight film of my two children, and wonder if there is a way to make all clips have the same volume. I know I can adjust the individual clips decibel niveau, but ven though I adjust them to the same level i.e -6 decibel, the clips volume are not the same. Any suggestion, or do I have to adjust each clip with different decibels niveaus and try to make the volume the same, like one clip can have -6 decibel, one light have 3 decibel and so on in order for the volume to be Aamodt the same.

On the Time Line you can copy the clip (Command-c) that has the levels you want. Select the other clips and hit Shift+Command-V to paste effects. Check the Audio attributes.

  • Adjusting speaker volume for rear speak

    Hi there.
Just bought my Creative X-FI XtremeGamer sound card, which really is awesome compared to my onboard. The problem I'm having though is that I cannot seem to find any way to increase the volume output of the rear speakers and/or reduce the volume of the front speakers so they balance out better. Currently my fronts are as loud as my back speakers near enough, and all I can hear is the fronts as I sit foot away from them and 5ft away from rears, so I'd like to reduce the dbA of the front's and increase the dbA from the rears.
Is this possible? As I've searched for a solution and looked through the Creative Audio Console and cannot find a way to do it.
    Thanks for any help!

do you have the THX Setup Console?
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Creative\Sound Blaster X-Fi\THX Console\THXConsole.exe"
it lets you calibrate the speakers strength, bitrate and placement

  • Is there a way to re-set the default fade-in/out setting for all slides?

Hi all, I don't know why all objects on all the slides of my captivate project are set as transition-> fade in/fade out. The result is that every single slide fades out after 3 seconds, even before the learners can finish reading.
The only solution I know is to change each single object from transition->fade in/fade out to No Transitions. However, it takes thousands of clicks.
Does anyone know that there is a one-step solution to get rid of this default fade in/fade out settings?
Or was there something that I did wrong which caused this default fade in/fade out?
    Thank you very much.

Hi all, not only are my objects set to no transition, I set the object defaults to rest of slide rather than specific time (located in the same window above. That way slide duration does not matter (unless you are doing autoplay and not using navigation.) This way when my audio lengthens the timeline all my objects are there for the full duration
Also, another tip, once you have set your objects styles and preferences the way you like them you can export both, and import them into any new project that you wish to use them in rather than reset all the time.

  • Detecting audio volume for creating waveform

    Hello all,
I need to display waveform from a sound file.
I know to use Graphics in java for drawing lines, etc
But, I don't know how to get the rate volume of a sound (in miliseconds) for creating a text log looks like:
23,40,54,32,2,43,4,45With these numbers (coordinates) I will draw a waveform.
In conclusion: How can I draw a waveform from a sound file in java?

..The magnitude is easy ( Math.abs() ) and the running average is relatively easy.. It is as difficult as it is useful. (I.E. not difficult and not useful).I disagree - I have done it this way for 40+ years. The average of some function of a time series is the average taken over the last N values. The running average is the application of this continuously so the running average at time 't' is is the average taken over the last N samples (t,t-1,t-2 etc) so this has a smoothing effect on the time series. Whether one use abs() on each value or any other function does not change the concept. Maybe not the concept, but certainly the end 'volume' number. If you do not use the abs value, the end volume (in the situation I outlined, where the buffer size covers a single wavelength) would be 0 for sawtooth wave spanning -1 <-> 1, -0.5 <-> 0.5 or -2 <-> 2.
..For what the OP is trying to do, square() is probably better than abs() but that is for the OP to decide.
Further consideration is normally given as to whether or not to do some band pass filtering of the time series prior to taking the running average. I would do so but the OP may decide not to. You lost me with the band pass filtering. I thought that required Fourier transforms, and whenever I have looked up FFTs on the net, the formulae made my eyes cross.
As to the the calculation of running average. All one needs is a ring buffer containing the last N sample values. Uh-huh. I'm with you there. A buffer of values is also required for RMS calculations.
..Care must be taken to stop the build up of rounding errors. ..O..K I was not even considering built up rounding errors when I commented.
..An approach to this is to recalculate the mean of the ring buffer.. 'ring buffer'? The group of the last 'n' instantaneous values?
    (quick Google later, confirming same)
Um.. OK. Forget I ever writ that and pretend I knew it all along. ( Thanks ;)
..from scratch every now and again but there are many many approaches.
..(the incremental approach can be used where for each sample that arrives one adds it in to the average and removes the oldest from the average). ..Let us assume, for simplicity, that the signal is a sawtooth wave that spans from -1 to 1. The average when you happen to be keeping as many samples as fit in a single wavelength will be exactly 0.5. Assuming that you mean the average of the abs() then yes but the average of the unprocessed signal will be zero and not 0.5.
Now shift the sawtooth signal to span from 0 to 2 and the average is exactly 1, even though the end user would hear exactly the same signal and volume as the original signal that spanned from -1 to 1.Sorry but I don't see your point. My point was that to an end user, listening to the output, both sawtooth waves would sound identical, indistinguishable, yet the values for the average of the absolute values would be different, while the RMS values would be ..identical.
Compare that to the [RMS volume|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_mean_square]. The RMS value would be identical for the -1 <-> 1 signal, and the 0 <-> 2 signal (both values greater than 0).
Now you have really lost me. I understand 'mean' . I understand 'root mean square'. Both are 101 concepts. Are you just trying to say that one must perform high pass filtering first (i.e. get rid of the mean prior taking the abs() or square() or whatever)? Again. Huh? I was not ever considering any form of filtering.
..With sound recordings this occurs naturally since microphones tend not to be able to measure absolute pressure but I would certainly filter out anything below the standard human low frequency cut-off point.Um.. OK.
I pointed to some code earlier. That code is used in renderings of sound signals. Its primary purpose is to plot the audio signal itself (real perty like), but I was also interested in offering left/right channel 'volume'. After much successful research (and unsuccessful experimentation), I settled on the RMS as the way to calculate the instantaneous volume.
You can view the results in both Tracker (designed for individual tracks compatible with Java Sound as well as MP3s) and DukeBox (that is designed to parse/play M3U playlists of JavaSound + MP3 playlists). On the lower left/right of the sound trace rendering, often 'visually boosted' (since RMS values tend to be low, there is an option to display the square root of the actual calculated RMS volume, measured from 0-1, which is the default for most of the the preconfigured renderings) in a real time situation.
I mention this only for the fact that the OP can use either of those apps. to see the end effect of the RMS style calculation.
..Where did the OP go, BTW?

  • HT1349 How do i adjust the volume for my headphones on the itunes library as everytime i listen to music on phone via my headphones the left ear is a lot lower then the right?

I have changed my phone (iphone4s) thinking it was an issue with the headphones intially but then saw that it worked perfect in different handsets so thought it was an issue with the handset. When i went to apple they tried a pair of headphones on it and agreed the handset needed to be changed. When i received the new handset tried out youtube an everything was working fine. However, now i've put songs back on itunes it is happening again. I cant find any location in settings giving me the option to increase the volume.

What you are asking for is not possible in iMovie 8.
You will need to go back to iMovie 6 to do what you want.
OR pull the audio into some audio editing progam, adjust it there and re-import into your movie.
Sorry, quick & dirty does have it's down sides.
