Adjusting Brightness & Contrast

All the videos I buy from the Apple store play too bright on my monitor - I want to adjust the brightness & contrast but I can't find any way to do this. I don't want to change the overall brightness and contrast of my video card as then all my other videos are too dark. How can I just adjust the video options in iTunes?

I have an ATI Radeon but cannot find anything in the control panel to so that I can adjust any settings.

  • Can't slice gradient with adjusted bright/contrast filter

I was playing around with gradients, and finally came up with something I wanted to try on my site. I'm taking a shade of yellow (#CC9933), then adjusting the colors with a brightness/contrast filter (brightness -81, contrast -8). But when I try to export a slice of the image, or just copy it to another Fireworks file for export, I am getting the original, bright yellow gradient, not the darker gradient with the adjusted brightness/contrast settings. What am I doing wrong?
I've attached a copy of the image I'm working with. It shows both the image with the adjusted colored gradient I want, and (to the right) how the slices are looking like.
Thanks much to anyone who can help

Thank you, Jim. I don't know what I was doing last night. Everytime I tried to export or copy from
the darker image, I'd get the lighter one in Dreamweaver. I just tried it after reading your posting, and it works fine now. I think the lesson for me is, don't work at 3:30 am.
Can you recommend which format (jpeg or png24) I should export as? The darker image, that is. I don't want the lighter one.
    Thanks again.

  • Colored frames when adjusting brightness/contrast

Hello kind people. I am trying to adjust brightness/contrast on a short clip in my video, and I keep getting some colored frames that play when I replay the clip. I can stop at the colored clips, some are blue, and some are magenta. Anyone have an answer? I have rendered the clips, but I can't figure it out, and have never had this problem.
    Thanks,
    Mike.
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.6

I reset the codec to Pro. All the footage I shot myself with the same camera setting. Also, I am only editing this one short clip, so it's not mixing with anything else I don't think.
I figured out a go around from my problem. Instead of going to Effects, Video Filters, Quicktime, Brightness/Contrast, I am now doing Effects, Video Filters, Image Control, Brightness. It seems to automatically take care of the contrast to make it look nice.

  • Adjust brightness/contrast/geometry in ubuntu or open firmware

    Hi,
I've installed ubuntu in my mac and wiped out mac os 9/x.
But the linux system does not allow me to adjust the brightness/contrast/geometry. I got a CRT display too bright, 1 cm off the center and too small.
Anybody has any clue about adjusting the display settings in linux for a iMac G3 CRT? I tried a lot and searched a lot but don't have any findings, except reinstall a mac os, which I do not want to do. Also, is there anyway to do that in the open firmware command line interface?
    Many thanks for any help!
    Jim

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I don't believe there is any depth of linux experience in the iMac forums. I'd advise re-posting in the Ubuntu forums (here).

  • X20 LED Adjust brightness & contrast

I just bought this monitor.  The brightness and contrast are set too high. I read the manual and brought up the main menu but I cannot, using the monitor buttons, get to the sub-menu to change those two items (the brightness is set way too high:  90).  I've worked in IT for 20+ years but this has me stumped.  The manual does not detail how to get to the sub-menus.
Any help would be great.  Thanks!

    Hello pdwight11,
The menu has three keys to primarily use the menu key and the plus (+) and minus (-) key. To get into the sub menus press the menu key to bring up the OSD. Then by using the plus or minus navigate through the list. Press the menu key to select that menu and then plus or minus to navigate within the sub menu.
Does this get you into one of the options?

  • Adjust Brightness Contrast Gamma Grayscale IMAQ

    Hi All,
I'm trying to use the IMAQ image display to adjust the BCG values of an acquired U16 image.  In searching for a solution, the IMAQ BCGLookup and the Image Operators (+,-,*,/) seem like the preferred approach in LabVIEW.
Can BCGLookup do this alone? I've attached an image of my attempt at adjusting BCG using this function. Here, I get an error specifying "IMAQ Vision: Ivalid Image Type"
I resorted to the above approach after failing use the image operators, the screen shot of this is also attached.  At least with the one configuration of this attempt, I do not get an error, but the adjusted image fails to display.
I appreciate any advise or input anyone might be able to offer.
    Thanks!!

    Greetings,
The IMAQBCGLookup seems to be indeed the way to go for your application.
From looking at the images you have posted, is there a reason as to why we are not using a secondary memory location for the modified image?
After quickly looking through the BCGLookup documentation, it would seem that the supported image for the function would be U8. As such, while the BCG Lookup Example.VI in the example finder might be informative, I do not know if it might be too useful.
I have looked around a bit and have found, in the following article, an example that deals with 16bit images, give it a try and let me know if that helps!

  • Adjusting brightness on external LCD of MacBook

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 2033 connected to my MiniDisplayPort. The buttons on the side of the monitor have stopped working. Is there anyway I can adjust brightness/contrast and/or any of the other configuration settings for the monitor from OS X? Otherwise, is there a third party software out there that will do it?

  • Adjusting brightness and contrast on the Pavilion dv6

    Hi,
I am having trouble with the color of my pictures so decided to calibrate my laptop.  I bought the huey PRO to calibrate the laptop.  The instructions says:
Set the contrast control to maximum and set the Brightness control to 50%. Decrease the Contrast until you see two rings in the upper half of the white circle. The lower half always shows two rings for reference.
If the display gets too dim, just set the Contrast control to about 75%, or to a level that you like.
How do I adjust the contrast?  I am also using Windows 7 on the Pavilion dv6

    Hello @waynest,
Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand the display issue that you are having. I have noticed the color can seem off when you look at the screen of a computer. So to help me get as much information as possible so that I can help you better. Can you provide me with your notebook's Product number and complete model number. Here is a link that will help you find this information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
As well could you provide what version of the Operating System you are running.  For example if it is Windows 7 Pro / Ultimate / Home, and if it is 32 bit or 64 bit.  Use the link below to help with this.
Which Windows operating system am I running?
As for the Huey PRO Calibration software here is a link that may help you as well.
    Contact PANTONE Support.
Looking forward to helping you with your issue.

  • Exposure vs. Levels vs. Brightness/Contrast Adjustment Layers?

I have some photos that are a bit underexposed and I'm trying to brighten them up a bit and I made a Levels adjustment layer and also experimented with the Exposure adjustment layer. Are these essentially doing the same thing OR are there reasons to have a Levels adjustment layer along with an exposure one and a Brightness/Contrast one?
    Thanks in advance.

The Exposure adjustment in Photoshop is primarily meant to correct tonal values of High Dynamic Range images, which are 32 bits. This command makes tonal adjustments using a linear color space or gamma instead of your image’s color space.  You can use it on 8 bit or 16 bit images too, but the adjustments may seem rather drastic.
When rescuing poorly exposed 8 bit or 16 bit images, I prefer Levels or Curves because you have greater control.  Brightness/Contrast, isn't something I use much.

  • Adjustment layer (Brightness/Contrast) not rendering correctly

So I imported this big PSD file into after effects and everything looks good except this one adjustment layer, it's a brightness/contrast adjustment layer and instead of increasing the contrast in after effects it just turns the layer its suppose to adjust pitch black.
Thought this was odd given PS and AE share the same engine..

Yes, they do use the same code bassis, but some PS stuff simply is useless in AE and conversely, there are technical limitations inherent in how some of it works. The new PS Brightness&Contrast uses a weighted formula without making provision for temporal stability, hence it is of no use in AE - you wouldn't want your footage to flicker. The old algorithm on the otehr hand simply applies a dumb linear adjustment and therefore works. Not sure what you mean about smart objects - AE retains the rasterized layer data of an SO and that is all there is to work with. AE has no access to specific custom data that Photoshop uses, which in itself could just be a reference to pasted AI data or something like that. Simple technical limitations to prevent creating "loogic loopholes" and unresolvable cyclic dependencies. For more specific details please refer to the help and adapt your workflow to avoid these dead ends. There is no point in trying to finish everything in PS, if you're going AE, anyway.

  • Brightness/Contrast Adjustment for Videos?

Is it possible to adjust the brightness & contrast for videos on iPod?

Is it possible to adjust the brightness & contrast
    for videos on iPod?
Twenty thousand threads later and I've never heard this question asked before. If you think it looks bad, it may be that your iPod isn't working properly. Go to a store and compare it with another one, but make sure you look at your own iPod in the same store light.

  • Adjust Levels/Brightness/Contrast on 200pp PDF

I have a PDF document of scanned documents and all the scans are under-exposed. I need to adjust levels/contrast/brightness on all the pages. For a start I want to apply the same set of changes to every page of the PDF. I'll then place the PDF pages onto InDesign Pages and Print as a booklet to get pagination for sadle stiching using the included Applescript.
Is there and automated way I can process all the pages in PS and apply a standard set of changes to all the pages and then save the document including the page number so as I can reassemble as a single document in Acrobat to then import to InDesign using the aforementioned Applescript?

You could creat an action to do the required changes and use http://www.scriptsrus.talktalk.net/Pdfprocessor.htm to run the action on all the pages.
