Adjusting brightness of graphics in .pdf files.

How do I adjust the brightness level of my color graphics in my .pdf files in Acrobat 9 Pro? All graphics are printing way too dark. Printer is a brother 9840 MFC color laser. Thank you.

The color on your screen will never agree with the color printed. The
colors you see on your screen are formed by using combinations of Red,
Green and Blue (RGB). The colors when printed are usually made from the
colors (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, and Black---called CMYK). The colors made
on your monitor are from combining light of different colors. The color
on a page is formed by combing toner or ink to form different colors.
If you use a color postscript printer the colors will be printed using a
CMYK model. A cheap inkjet printer will try to use CMYK, but for the
most part it is faking it.
It is very complicated to get good color reproduction. The steps involve
calibrating your monitor and your printer, so that your software knows
something about how the colors on your monitor and printer look. This
discussion is way beyond my ability to communicate effectively. Color
management is very complicated and fortunately, my work has never
required high fidelity color work.
Perhaps, someone can step in to recommend some reading that can lead you
in the right direction.

Why can I no longer print pdf files?

So, I had Vista and updated last night to Windows 7 Professional. I did this because I have been unable to print pdf files for the past 8 to 9 months and got tired of forwarding to another computer to print. Prior to that, no issues printing from any program including reader. In the meantime, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Reader at least 4 times. Checked all my settings (won't even print as image only) and I still get blank pages. When I choose print my computer performs the funtion, but the Adobe "progress" bar doesn't count up from 1 to 100 numerically. It starts at 1 and then jumps to 50 or 100. My printer initializes and then nothing but blank pages. I don't know what else to try so any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, plain old English would be helpful. I used to be good at this, but...now just ok.

I can C I'm having it easy compared to every one else in here.
My pdf fioles need 10-15 over and over prints and still it's no good.
Reading all this stuff is soo exhausting.
And now I spend hours looking and adjusting stuff to print a pdf file.
I'm not in Grade 8!

Please go to the view where you have the PDF object.
Goto its WDDOMODIFYVIEW then type the code below.
data:
    lr_method_handler type ref to IF_WD_IACTIVE_FORM_METHOD_HNDL,

If first_time = abap_true.
get the method handler

Please make sure you type the correct name of the 'Interactive Object' in your layout. In my case,
my interactive form object name in the layout is FINAL_PDF.

Make PDF file size smaller for scans

I'm using a fairly high DPI setting on my scanner. Is there anyway to adjust the size of the PDF file after the scan??? Or do I have to adjust the scan settings to a lower DPI?? Thanks!

Yes, in Acrobat, run the PDF Optimizer and select: Images > Image settings
and select the downsample settings to suit your needs for the type of image the scan is (color, grayscale, monochrome).

Adjust Contrast in PDF files

I have a huge searchable PDF file (300+ pages, 40+ MB; it is
a scan of an early 20th century book I need for my work at
university). Everything works fine, but the pages appear somewhat
too bright. It's hard to read them on screen.
Is there any way to increase the contrast of my
300-dpi-grayscale-PDF-file? I extracted some pages and edited them
in graphic software, just increasing contrast 20 %. The pages are
perfect now - but I am not happy about the perspective doing this
300 times, and I have some more scanned books that could need a bit
more contrast...
I tried to convert the pdf file to monochrome. But the result
does not look very nicely.

How can I display an animated graphic in a PDF file or slide show?

I have a simple animated graphic comprising eight layers in a PSD file created in Photoshop. Can I create a version of this which can be included in a PDF file or a slideshow. I do not want to display it on the web. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm confused now. Just how would an animated GIF be different from an animated PSD (if there IS such a thing). Sounds like your best bet would be to use the PSD to make an SWF and inport THAT to the PDF, because you can use an SWF in a PDF and it will play.

It could be that the PDF file you're converting was created using a third-party application, and it doesn't contain all the information necessary to ensure a clean conversion. Have you had similar troubles converting other PDF files?

I've exported my pages graphics document as a PDF file and can't seem to reduce the file size without compromising the quality of the photo's used even after choosing "best" quality. I'm trying to send the file via e-mail but it's too big. ??????

I am trying to e-mail a graphics pages document I made as a PDF file. After trying to resize the file, the photo's quality is compromised (really blurry) even after choosing "Best" quality. What am I doing wrong. As a regular full sized file (PDF) it's fine, but when it gets reduced, it's bad and it needs to get printed from the e-mail copy I'm trying to send. HELP! Please.

If there are a lot and/or large images the file will inevitably be large, no matter what.
You can reduce them down as far as possible by cropping and scaling them to the final size before creating the pdf. You can do this by opening the images in Preview .app and using Menu > Tools to reduce the resolution and to crop.
If you have used transparency effects eg shadow, reflection, transparency, 3D charts, OSX will by default render these at 72dpi in the pdf.

I think you are converting a scanned PDF to word.
You might need to run OCR first to make the text recognizable and then convert it to word.

PDF files not printing correctly, only prints graphics (Vista)

Can anyone help me out? When I print a PDF file it only prints certain things,,,,,seems to print the more graphic items and not just plain text. I have the latest version of Adobe Reader. I can print fine to my printer from other applications. HP support was no help.

i might be having similar issue, my hp prints strange/alien looking font with vista/reader/pdf, looks fine on preview though. 'print as image' is the only solution i can find but it doesn't work for me..

Make sure you are viewing your image at 100%. At smaller views, pixels and layers and the way they interact are approximate interpolations and won't show you the actual pixel-for-pixel changes.

How to reduce size of a PDF file without loss of sharp graphics

Hi, I'm working in Acrobat Pro X. I have combined a file of graphics, and need to reduce the size. Original graphics were created in PScs6, and saved as .jpg's. What would be the best way to reduce the overall size of the PDF file and still maintain the clarity of the graphics? Advice would be appreciated.

When you are dealing with graphics, you are almost always talking about reducing the resolution or color depth. A lot depends on the graphics themselves. You might check one of the graphics and see what the color depth and resolution are. The 300 dpi setting is fine in most cases, unless you are wanting folks to zoom in. For many applications a color depth of 256 is fine rather than millions of colors. If those are acceptable options, be sure your graphics are set that way. You can try the Optimize to see if you can improve the size and still have adequate resolution (File>Save As>Optimize PDF).

I finally succeeded.
I made a Web Dynpro View containing a BG UI element, where I drew my graphic. Then I got a .gif image of the graphic with the following code:

As shown in the code, the image is encoded in a base64 string and (not shown) is inserted in a node context, in an attribute of type String. The node is shared with an Interactive Form, where there is an Image Field.
Just bind the base64 string to the Image Field, and that's all.

I have to zip pdf files to email them to someone with a PC. The problem is they aren't smaller after zipping and I can't email them. I tried adjusting the Quartz filter to the Reduce file size. Now they're smaller, but the recipient can't read them. Help!

I tried zipping them in Win 7 (which I use via Parallels 7) and sending them to the Finder to email.
But lately nothing is reduced. I tried choosing the Reduce File Size option in the Quartz Filter when I save the doc. The file size was reduced. However, the recipient could not read the file. Everything was blurry.
Is there a solution?

I am having some PDF sizing issues also, I am a BETA tester for TurboCAD Mac, and with the usage of (public) version 5, I have had some scaling issues. I have had (auto sent) 15 plus crash reports, (available as text) and had posted my scenario within the "lion- problems so far" article, so not to use up extra bandwith- or whatever- there are pictures there. I was not able to upload a PDF on site, and the staff @ Turbo CAd is working on it also. this is Lion specific new update, as I have posted many large format PDF's

How come my PPT to PDF files look so awful (low res)?

I have a powerpoint file that I need to save as a PDF. Originally, I had a lot of PNGs in the file because I need a transparent background, but each time I save the file as a PDF it looks horribly low-res (blurry, jagged edges-everything images should not be). All of my images are high quality and nothing is being scaled up. I have adjusted the settings in the PDF dialog box to be printer quality, and I've checked the "High Quality" setting checkbox.
Next I thought powerpoint preferred JPGs, so I saved all my images in that format, but I'm still having the same result.
Here's another plot-twist: saving the powerpoint file on a Mac gives me slightly better quality, but none of the hyperlinks work.

It may be the PNG with transparency. This is a classic problem with AA, though I thought it had been fixed. Older versions could not handle transparency. With PPT, PDF Maker changes the borders I think. That improves the PDF result without having to change some of teh options in the printer yourself. The resolution looks good, unless your problem is that of some colors and lines being impossible to see because of the 1200 dpi. I use the default resolution of 300 dpi (the default is 1200). I had problems with 1 pixel vector graphics that would be washed out when done with the 1200 dpi.
If it is not the transparency, then there is a chance the problem has to do with this display resolution.
