Adjusting brush properties after stroke is made

I'm using Illustrator CS2 and I'm attempting to create a logo using a signature. The signature was written with a tablet to capture the realistic pressure changes. After hundreds of attempts, I finally got it close enough to be able to tweak the paths made by the brush tool to my liking. Things are just about perfect, except for one spot. On one spot the pen was pressed too hard and the line is much too thick. It's a spot that was a transition line from one letter to another, so realistically, it ought to be lighter than the rest. So, my question is, is it possible to change the brush details (i.e., the pressure between two specific points) AFTER the stroke has been made? I don't want to change the brush for the entire path, just for the space between two specific points. Is that possible?

Mmm. Boy, I'm not an Illustrator guy. I'm pretty sure it's a Calligraphic Brush. When you write with a tablet that supports pen-pressure, in the brush dynamics, you can tell the brush diameter to vary depending on how hard your press. I need to find a way to adjust that between two specific points on the path that's already been made using the tablet and the brush tool.

I am in the Develop module trying to use the Adjustment Brush. After selecting the brush I am not seeing the window below that allows me to apply the corrections (exposure, contrast, etc.) I want. This window does show up if I select Graduated or Radial filters.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Using adjustment brush at 100 % image size

I have been using the adjustment brush in ACR ver 8.1 in CS6 & CS6cc.  I can use the brush to place the mask but would like to be able to touch up the mask at 100%.  This requires that I move the image around using the hand tool, but selecting the hand tool de-selects the pin for the adjustment brush.  After moving to a new place in the image, and selecting the adjustment brush, how can I turn on the pin again to touch up the mask?

Duh, head slap here, Jeff.  I should have known that!  I'm sure that was mentioned in your excellent "Digital Negative" book.  A Senior moment I guess.  I am enjoying your "Digital Print" book now.  Well done Jeff.
    Thanks for the reply,
    Dennis

  • Why don't changes made in camera raw with the adjustment brush carry into photoshop?

Why don't changes made in camera raw with the adjustment brush carry into photoshop?

Using the Open button in ACR to get to PS doesn’t create a PSD or a TIF, it just transfers the image in memory.
As has been asked, already, what are the precise steps of your workflow starting with your painting the adjustment brush strokes in ACR and seeing the image in PS without the strokes, and what exact versions of PS and ACR are you using?
Use Help / About Photoshop..., and Help / About Plug-ins... / Camera Raw...

  • My Local Adjustment Brushes no longer recognized after LR 4.3 update

After running 4.3 update, my local adjsutment brushes are no longer recognized and appearing in the Lightroom GUI.  They are all still located under 'Lightroom' folder --> 'Local Adjustment Brushes' folder (nothing has changed and I see all files are still there in Finder), but no matter how many times I've restarted LR, they are not showing up in the GUI.
    Please advise ASAP!!  Thank you

It's not clear from your initial problem description, but are you talking about local adjustment presets that you have created yourself (i.e. user presets), or are you talking about the standard presets supplied by Lightroom (Burn, Dodge, Soften Skin, etc)?
If it's the latter, go to Preferences>Presets Tab and click on "Restore Local Adjustment Presets".

  • CS5 crash after adding a brush to a stroke

Hey guys, I just run into this horrible problem. Am runing CS5 on a windows vista 32 bit, Q6600 quad processor 2.4 ghz, 4gb ram, GT 8600 video.
What happens is this: I draw a simple open path be it a straight line or a random zig-zag with pen. Standard stroke 1pt, standard color etc. I add then chalk - scribble brush to it. All is great. But when I try to click the Scribble / brush next to stroke in the appearance setting panel for the selected line, Ily crashes. At times crashes only from trying to open the Appearance panel. Only if I have a path with a brush applied selected, not with any other object. Any ideas much apreciated....

Hey again, I did the preferences reset, then even deleted the files. I have several odd acting fonts (I looked on google and some of them are actually system fonts and I can't remove them - not advisable anyway, but they do bug in ily when I select them by mistake) and uninstalled all that were safe to do so. If I use any of the native illustrator workspaces everything is fine. As soon as I switch to my workspace, or try to recreate it (by choosing essentials for example and just moving the windows / panels as I like), and quit and restart Ily, same thing happens.
Oddly enough, if when I start Illustrator I pick one of the default workspaces, draw a simple path, apply a brush, click it in Appearance panel, then switch to my personal workspace, everything is fine, no crashes no matter how many documents I open / close / create new ones. I think I will hang out with this work around for the time being as long as it works flawless, as I get nightmares only considering to reinstall everything after a full format. Should be able to get a new laptop in a month or two, and do a clean install there and pay more atention to what fonts I install :>
    Thanks again guys, very helpfull!

  • Weird blocks on image after using adjustment brush in ACR

A group of people took an online webinar yesterday.  The instructor is a heavy Adjustment Brush user, in LightRoom.  After taking the class, many of the students in the group are reporting the appearance of weird blocks on images, after using the Adjustment Brush - both in LR and in ACR.  It is also happening to me.  I am a heavy Photoshop and ACR user - never before have I seen this.  The only thing I'm doing differently is using the Adjustment Brush (because of the webinar class, as it was part of the instructor's core teachings).  What could be causing this?

There was an adjustment brush bug in older versions of ACR. I first reported it here, and Eric Chan acknowledged the problem. It went away in future releases. Sorry, I can't remember what version numbers were involved.

  • Adjustment brush applies brush strokes randomly

  • Why do adjustment brush parameters change after drawing?

Adjustment brush includes few "programm preset effects". When I start to use "Eris inhance", its parameters are set to 66. After drawing part of my picture, it automatucally decrease to 40. I do need every time to increase it again to 66 manually. I do not know why those parameters change and how to repair it (previously it was always set at the 66 level, even after drawing).
I use Lr 4.1 on Mac.
Actually parameters change just after I realease my mouse.

  • Wacom Tablet Pen Pressure stops working in Photoshop after using Lightroom Local Adjustment Brush

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a problem with my Intuos Pro Medium (driver 6.3.9w3 on Windows 8.1)
I am using Lighroom 5.6 and Photoshop CC 2014.
I an get the pen pressure to work in Photoshop without any problem. However, if I go into Lightroom and use the Local Adjustment Brush and then transfer the photo into Photoshop (Right Click Edit In => Edit in Adobe Photoshop 2014 CC) then the pen pressure stops working in Photoshop.
Really frustrating... The only workaround is to close both Photoshop and Lightroom, then reopen Photoshop, then usually the Pen pressure feature starts working again.
Has anyone experienced this before or has any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Guillaume

Your tablet driver isn't reporting pressure correctly.
The knockoff tablet drivers usually need to be revised for each new version of Photoshop (and we have no idea why).
Contact your tablet maker to see if they have updated drivers to fix their bugs.

  • Adjustment brush after HSL operation

    Hi,
I just desaturated all colours but one with HSL (all except red in my case). Now I want to desaturate remaining PARTS of the image with the adjustment brush (saturation slider to the left). Turns out it does not work this way.
    What am I doing wrong?

So you want to desaturate parts of the remaining red colour with the brush?
I just tried it and it worked (LR 3.2).

  • Adjustment brush after updating to 5.7 totally deactivated

Since updating to 5.7 the adjustment brush does not function -- no sliders have any effect, and the show overlay shows nothing.

Yes, I had flow set to the minimum. I changed that -- and everything works.
    Thank you, Rikk!

  • LR 3.2 - Local adjustment brush and heal/clone tool broken

    Hi,
After installing LR 3.2, the first thing I noticed is that it is much slower than the previous version (using XP Pro + 3GB memory and a speedy processor).
But the most terrible novelty of this version is that the Adjustment Brush is going berserk after a while:
It first slows down to a crawl, so slow that it's almost impossible to work with.
While working with it after a while, it starts to show random rectangular areas that are copies of other areas of the image that have nothing to do with the area I'm working on. This happens after a brush stroke. The Undo command makes these rectangular "patches" disappear.
From time to time, the whole image is flipped upside down (You can't believe it? Neither could I).
Eventually, afte a brush stroke, the sandclock mouse cursor is displayed and the program freezes (at this time it can be using over 1 GB of memory although I'm working on a single, standard EOS 5D image). The only way to stop this madness is to kill the process.
The Heal/Clone tool also shows a similar misbehavior.
I didn't have these problems with the previous version.

Are you looking for help? If so then it would really useful if you provided some information on hardware, OS and what exactly are you doing when the system freezes. Also worth noting that applications very rarely (even badly coded apps) cause the hardware to crash. System crashes are more often than not due to bad device drivers or bad hardware that an application may expose.
I'm a software professional since PCs exist. I have enough experience to identify software problems when they appear. At least, I'm able to determine whether I have a hardware problem or if the software I'm using (or writing) is buggy. I have read many reports, many threads, many advice about these performance issues. I'm pretty sure that the problem is LR. I repeat: I do not have any performance issue when editing images in Bibble 5, Photoshop or DxO Optics Pro. BB5 is at least an order of magnitude faster than LR when editing images. When I use the Adjustment Brush in Camera Raw, there's absolutely no problem. My hardware is powerful enough and my installation is pretty clean (could it be powerful enough in Camera Raw and not in LR?). My OS is very stable. I have not seen a BSOD since years and all my applications are running flawlessly on this system (which includes image editing applications, software development tools, and many others...).
Users having various and very powerful systems (PC or Mac) are reporting the very same problems. Like Bruce, I'm convinced that this is not a hardware resource problem. We didn't have these problems with LR2 and LR3 was supposed to enhance performances. Version after version, it has now become unusable for me.
Drawing the conclusion that since many users don't have any performance issues, the problem must be on the user's side would be erroneous. The bug is in LR and may or may not appear depending on the circumstances. Any developer knows that a bug may or may not hit a given user depending on how she uses the software. I admit that these bugs are hard to fix. But LR has to be fixed, no doubt.
I profoundly regret that Adobe do not acknowledge this.

  • CS4 raw editing, global adjustments versus useing "Adjustment Brush"

I had made a post earlier about CS4's raw editor hanging when working on .cr2 files ( canon). It seems that the raw editor works fine when makeing global adjustments, but when using the adjustment brush to make selective adjustments the program hangs for extended times. A global brightness adjustment will go thru in a couple of seconds at most, where as a photo with a few selective adjustments made to it will hang for as long as 5 minutes or more. Moving the image around is fluid when dealing with a image that does not have selective adjustments, and hangs when dealing with an image that has selective adjustments. The program seems set up to make selective adjustments ( it does have a selective adjustment brush after all ) but useing that option seems to cause such massive problems that it is un usable. The raw editor seems to use 50 to 100% of the proccesor during the hang time, and there is no disk activity which leads me to believe that there is not a problem with not haveing enough ram.
I would appreciate any help that can be given with this problem

First off let me say thank you for your responce.  But if what I have been doing is
    selective tone adjustments, not HDR
That doesn't change the fact it would be a feature that can enhance the image process none the less.
But not all the images I process are single shot images... I actually take time to scout a spot. Then I take about 3-4 shots at different exposures. Go into Camera Raw and and make different versions(snapshots) of those images.  Then create a document for each of those (snapshots) Then I open in a HDR program... NOW Photoshop HDR... and process them. The effect is different than the normal way of converting images into HDR... I think even more precise, or at least in my opinion.  So creating a feature like this will give the user the ability to streamline the workflow.
So much of what you described doesn't belong in the HDR plugin, but is already available as tools in ACR or Photoshop itself.
But what about the HDR adjustment brush tool I suggested?  That really sounds like a good possibility that people would like to utilize when creating HDR images.

  • Lightroom 4 Adjustment Brush Crashed

    Hi,
Was editing an image in the develop module, applied the adjustment brush for saturation to the sky area, then pressed the "O" key to see the brushed area and Lightroom 4 crashed. The adjustment brush was set for 100% flow and auto masking with only the saturation slider adjusted to +12. I restarted Lightroom and brought up the same image and went to apply an adjustment brush, but as soon as I clicked on the brush Lightroom locked up and I got the following weirdness on my screen:
Kind of strange - thought you might like to see it.
Now it seems that attempting to do anything with this particular image will cause Lightroom 4 to lockup and display the weird little box. However, I am able to edit other images.
    Message was edited by: batracy

Ok, after further testing I have found the following:
    1) If I close all other applications, I don't get the weird little black box that looks like a media player. I had Outlook 2007 open previously.
    2) Any use of the adjustment brush fails to set an anchor point and causes Lightroom to stop responding.
    3) Any use of the "O" key to show the brush strokes will cause Lightroom to hang.
    4) Any adjustments have a noticeable lag between making the adjustment and seeing it on the screen.
As mentioned earlier, my system is:
Windows 7 64 bit with all updates applied
Intel Core2 Dual CPU running 2.6Mhz
    4GB memory
    Nvidia GeForce Graphics card
    Over 1TB of disk space
Lightroom 3.6 running amazingly well for me - no lag time unless the file size exceeds 1.5GB which most of the time my images are smaller than that.
Let me know if there is any additional information you need, or things you would like me to check.
