Adjusting color temperature from footage from a D7?

Someone is going to give me footage shot with a Canon D7 and he told me he didn't set the White Balance, but instead changed the color temperature. I have next to zero experience with DSLR video. What does that mean in terms of fixing the WB in FCP?

Fixing the WB will depend on how much it is off. If you push the correction too far you will introduce grain.
Transcode the footage to ProRes 422 through Log & Transfer. See Shane Ross' tutorial for tapeless workflows: http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1
If you need to do a lot of correction use Color instead of FCP for best results.

Adjust color temperature how?

When shooting a play with tungsten lighting I set the camcorder to custom white balance but forgot to adjust the color temperature and the video now has a reddish cast.
If it was a still photo, I could open it in adobe raw/lightroom and adjust the color temperature slider until the color cast disappear.
Is there an equivalent function in premiere pro cs4?
There is a color balance video effect but it is overkill. I don't need to adjust the color on highlights, midtones, or shadow. All I need is change the color temperature. Any ideas?

You are correct. It is the same for about every "Auto Effect." They only work well, where nothing has changed, i.e. the lighting, the exposure, etc., so about the only way to really use this is in a very controlled studio, or properly lit location shot. That is not what one usually is working with.
If Fast Color is not working for you, explore Three-Way Color Corrector - more control.

FR: color temperature adjustment layer

I know there are 5 million methods to adjust colors in PS, but I would really prefer a simple (and almost scientific) method like the color temperature adjustment in ACR (with the green-magenta color cast adjustment).
Ideally, PS would read the current color temperature from the EXIF data (and adjust to any adjustment layers below), and give the option to pick a neutral pixel (and display the color shift based on that). in case there is no original color temp available, the grey pixel picker could be used to establish a base value, and give the user at least relative color shift values (or the user could enter the values by hand from ACR).
The reason for this is that most (pro) photographers probably know the color temp of their environments (lights, ambient, gels etc) (or can read those values from ACR), so adjusting values in regards to kelvin would make things much more precise than the ambivalent values of e.g. the color balance adjustment.

What I was asking is a different method to achieve the same results what is possible with levels/curves/color balance etc without going into lab mode. (btw, the lack of a grey picker and the zoned approach of color balance isn't ideal sometimes)
thank you for reminding me that I need to brush up on my color theory. your reply has a tone of "why are you asking this, there are already tools for this" which I find a bit too conservative, when my intention is to make PS even more user friendly... if we would go with your paradigm, we wouldn't need levels, because everybody could just use curves, and yet both are very popular and often used based on the users preferences.

it would enable users to specifically balance images with mixed light sources (with the proposed color temp/WB adjustment layer with it's mask) by entering values in kelvin, and not some arbitrary numbers from 0-1 or 0-255. it would be so much easier to balance tungsten to daylight by adding 2000 kelvin to the image, or to control a straw gel that was added somewhere in the scene. I can imagine so many applications for this adjustment layer...

How can I escape from crop? Gets stuck on crop. Thus cannot do adjust color /remove color cast. Photoshop Elements 10 on PC.

I try everything. Shut down Photoshop Elements 10. Shut down PC. Re-boot PC. Try a different jpg. Open it with PSE 10. It still is stuck on Crop tool, and won't allow me to Adjust color.

Have you tried resetting the tools?
Click on the small down triangle at the top left of the tools and select Reset all tools
Once you are in the crop tool, you are clicking on the accept tick or the cancel symbol aren't you?

Color temperature adjustment

Hello,
A really good feature would be color temperature adjustment for Adjustment Brush and Graduated Filter to be able to set a corect white balance through the whole picture. This could be a scenario: a sunset with (partialy) falling shadows (from trees) on some people. Also to have a White Balance Selector for those two adjustments.

Color consistency from Photoshop to AI?

I created a new logo recently. All the text was created in Illustrator and one element (radio antenna waves) was built in Photoshop. I've set the color to PMS 464 but when I bring the 'waves' into AI, the color is darker. I've tried adjusting different settings in Photoshop, playing with transparency in AI, etc. Is there a color setting I've missed? Below is the web version with an 85% opacity on the waves, but you can see the difference in colors.

I have looked at is and the only conclusion I can come to is that using the pantone colors is a good idea for print and not a good idea for the web.
If you use the pantone colors then you have to turn on Overprint preview to see the proper output for press and you will see a pretty close match when you have overprint preview on.
If you try this for the save for the web you will get a very inconsistent color.
However if your only concern is color consistency and one of the objects is vector you can probably use the Edit>Edit Colors>Adjust Color Balance and Saturation to adjust the color.
I would say a wiser way to do this is to color the art in an rgb environment for the web and not use spot colors swatches that were designed to work in a cmyk for print.
If you turn on Overprint preview you will see what I mean, then though it is matched and you do a save for the web you will see the conversion is not working well for that environment
I would save the paths and use swatches you create yourself because this was not intended to work this way and is probably part of the problem.
Overprint preview will show you what you will get in print but the consistency for the web well I would say there is something wrong .
this shows what you can get with adjusting the colors and you will get this for save for the web by doing so this and if you don't adjust the colors but turn on overprint preview you get this as well

I have no idea why there should be so big a difference except to say they are going about this in the wrong way and it needs to be corrected.
There seems to be no reason for this to be. PMS 464 should be PMS 464 if it is in the same environment.
Now of course if one had it as rgb in photoshop and brought it into Illustrator for a cmyk document then there is going to a conversion which you might not like and if you create a cmyk document with art that was convert from rgb to cmyk in transport and are trying to match objects from the different applications that probably would not work.
I really do not know why this is happening in my opinion it is a bug. This is so long an explanation because I really do not have an explanation for it.
Perhaps someone else does.

Taking photos with my iPhone5c color shifts from photo to square

When taking photos with my iphone 5c ios7 I notice the color shifts from photo to square. The color changes are noticible. I have auto focus on, flash off, on both formats I click on the image to get exposure and focus and take the photo.

If the colors look different when you take pictures in "photo" and "square" mode, make sure that there are no filters being used:
Apply a filter: (iPhone 4s or later) Tap the filter icon to apply different color effects, such as black & white. To turn off a filter, tap , then tap None. You can also apply a filter later, when you edit the photo. See Edit photos and trim videos.
If you are seeing unexpected results when taking pictures with your iPhone 5c, these troubleshooting steps can help:
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

Best way to remove the color blue from this?

Trying RGB Curves and Three-Way Color Corrector, but I can't seem to remove the color blue from the cutting tool in the screenshot.
In photoshop, I could use hue / saturation and adjust only the blues, is that an option in Premiere?

I've had good luck with Change Color in Premiere Pro, as mention above:
Go to the Effects Pane > Video Effects > Color Correction > Change Color and apply the Change Color effect to your clip.
Use the eyedropper to select the color in the shot you want to modify, using Tolerance and Softness to help select the color.
Then modify the color using the transform settings.

I am unable to print color photos from i photo using a Brother Printer

I am unable to print color photos from i photo using a Brother MFC-6490CW all in one. The photos appear to be in grayscale. I have checked the printer settings, but for some reason I am not able to access the color management on my printer from printer set up. It only gives me the standard option. I have spent hours checking Bother's website and Apple's and I am not able to come up with a valid answer. I know that the color print works. If I print something from the internet of from outlook it will print in color. I know all of my cartridges are in working order, I have cleaned the print head on my Brother, but I am still not able to print photos in color!!!
What puzzles me the most is why I am unable to really access the color management menu on my printer? It just does not come up. I have the option from paper handling to print photos, but this has nothing to do with the quality. I have also tried printing the photo from an Adobe PDF file and I still have the same problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you.

In the Print dialogue box click on the little triangle to the right of the name of the printer. That will expand the dialogue box.

Color variations from Adobe Illustrator CS5 to Acrobat 9 (PDF)

I'm a new designer who is trying to solve issues of color variations when I create a PDF file from Illustrator CS5. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to ensure that the colors match from application to application? Do I need to select certain settings for RGB, CYMK, or other color libraries (i.e., Pantone)? If you are creating your PDF using Save As > PDF or Print > PDF; your selections in Illustrator's Color Settings should go with the file. However, it could also be the settings you choose when you create the PDF. I use Distiller where I can use the same settings from Illustrator and have them embedded in the PDF when distilled. The key being that settings match when you create the PDF.

But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
Calibrate the monitor

Getting accurate color prints from mini and Dell 2405?

Although I'm reading many great reviews about this setup and display, I've also found quite a few folks on various forums that are having a very hard time getting their prints to come out looking like anything close to the highly rated on-screen image.
I would like to know if anyone has has figured out how to do this as I often have clients OK the image before I print it. Several people have said that their clients bave been disappointed with the print after seeing the image on-screen with this display more than others.

I use the Dell 2405 on my PC to print photos, and the colors match closely. I just used Adobe Gamma in the Control Panel that comes with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to tweak the output settings, and I left the LCD at its default sRGB setting, which I think Dell has already calibrated, which you can tell if you start up the LCD in diagnostic mode and look at the diagnostic menu.
OSX has a better color calibration utility, so I think with DVI and the 2405, there shouldn't be much of an issue. If anything, the Dell is calibrated to gamma 2.2 which is Windows' default, but with the color calibration utility in OSX you can change the gamma to 2.2 or leave it as OSX's default 1.8. Also, from my limited dabbling in printing color photos from my digicams, there are other factors involved too, such as your printer, paper, camera settings, and software (like Photoshop) settings.

How can I extract and save a color profile from an existing file?

I've been give a tiff file with an embedded color profile from a customer. I want to be able to save that color profile for future use. I've tried various methods with no success.

And those were...? You need to be specific. Generally though one would simply install the profile file rather than jump hoops to extract it from an image, where it may be incomplete or lack other critical info like other profiles or specific printer or monitor information it may reference.

Remove color profile from an image

How to remove color profile from an image is it possible through any script?
Manual Try - Don't Color Manage this Document: option is used to instruct Photoshop to remove an existing embedded profile but when I save the file, close and open it I still see a color profile in the embedded image.

On the mac you could have sips do this (it may depend on the file type). You would loose the files creator if Photoshop was its last editor though.
