Adjusting Colours

How do I change the colour of part of my image to be the same colour as another part. I know you were able to do this in old versions of photoshop, where you simply selected the colour in the image that you wanted then coloured in where you wanted the colour. I have elements 12 and am unsure of how to do it on here.

You should still do as Mark suggested, so you can learn about actions, but if
your interested in the Image Processor script for cs (not included with cs by default),
you can download Dr Browns 2.3 Image Processor for photoshop cs from here:
Look under Photoshop CS tips:
http://replay.web.archive.org/20051231035304/http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html
The script needs to be installed in the photoshop cs presets/scripts folder and
then start or restart photoshop and look under File>Scripts>Dr Browns Image Processor 2.3

I'm using Preview with a MacBook Pro and MacOS 10.6.8. When adjusting sharpness in the Adjust Colour tool, images are not saved. Any hint? Thanks.

I too experienced the same issue.  Here are my details:
Recently I bought a 15” Macbook Pro and last night I tried to connect and use a Edirol FA/66 Firewire 400 connected outboard audio interface using a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter then connected to a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter since the MBP doesn’t have a native Firewire port.  What I observed is that the Edirol was not getting power from the bus nor did the MBP (running Yosemite) recognize the Edriol.  At first I thought there was a problem with the Edirol since I haven’t used it in a while but when I connected it to an older MBP that has a native Firewire port, it worked normally.  Is there a known issue with these sorts of external audio interfaces working properly with newer MBP running Yosemite?  I’m hoping that a software update will fix this issue.

  • Video picture bright green and pink, how do I adjust colour?

how do I adjust colour / brightness of my video picture

Thank you Russ, this certainly helps me out a little bit.  It's not made very clear in other places I've seen that you have to click on the keyframe in the middle of the picture.  Throughout most of yesterday I was clicking on the keyframe in the upper right corner and nothing was happening.  But this all still feels kinda limited however especially compared with what I could do in FCP7.  Is this all FCPX has to offer?  Perhaps I don't understand how this works?
When I click on the keyframe, I get only two choices, linear or smooth.  Yet, the still image still does this ease in and out thing.  How can I adjust that?  Aslo, how can I make constant movement? If I want it to go from picture to picture with constant movement, never starting and stopping, how do I make that happen?

  • IMovie 10.0.7 - Adjust Colours Numerically?

I have a question about iMovie 10.0.7, which is currently the latest version of iMovie.
If you Adjust colours (using the Multislider control, the Saturation slider, or Color Temperature slider) is there a way to bring up numbers, so that you can Adjust the colours numerically? For example, if you increase the Saturation of a clip, is there a way of seeing a value (e.g. +20), so that you know the amount you increased it by?

Yeah, kind of similar to Photos for OS X. Here's a screenshot of the Adjustments menu in Photos for OS X.
Anyway, hopefully you'll be able to adjust colours numerically again in future versions of iMovie.

  • Workflow Suggestions Please - Adjust Colour, White Balance, Levels, Resize

    Hi,
I have a number of photographs which I need to present in a consistent fashion - each is slightly different from the next in terms of exposure, levels, white balance etc, but they should all be the same. Because each is different, I can't simply define a preset in each of these and apply across the board: each needs to be consistent....
So Can anyone suggest an efficient workflow to:
    - Adjust the colour so that each is consistent across the group?
    - Adjust the levels so that each is consistent across the group?
    - Straighten, Crop and resize so that each is an identical size?
Any advice much appreciated. I'm working with CS3 on a Mac.

Image: Adjustments: Match Color? I have never found this useful but maybe it's what you need. I would use it on a duplicate layer because as far as I know it's not available as an Adjustment Layer.
As far as canvas size, as long as you don't have any background layers, you can make all canvas sizes match and it's non destructive (think of the canvas as a window)
When you do end up scaling the image contents consider using Smart Objects so the sizing is non-destructive.

  • Elements 8. need to adjust colour on one thing in photo. Can I do it?

I have done colour correction and contrast correction and the picture is the right colours and texture. The eye of the cat is all wrong now. the is a vivid green in life but now is a washed out drab eye. Need to correct that one thing. Can I do it??

Sure. Select the eye, add a one or two pixel feather, then layer>new adjustment layer>hue/saturation. If the eye is completely blown out (no color at all) you may need to turn on the colorize checkbox. Once you're done you may want to adjust the opacity of the layer a bit for a more realistic effect.

I'm trying to match my Cinema Display to a PAL CRT broadcast monitor. I've managed to set most things how I want them, but find the colours are much more intense on the Cinema Display.
Is it possible when calibrating an Apple Cinema Display to reduce overall colour saturation? I can't seem to find a way.

Other than reload the product! LOL I just don't have a spare week to waste getting it all going again!

    Hi Nealeh
Thanks i think I got it working of a fashion.
Except the replace colour, does not seem to end up with the colour I picked using the picker tool. Its as though it hads not replaced the colour but blended in the desired colour with the old incorrect colour!
Buy trial and error picking not the right colour but close - which when mixed with the existing colour is close.
Sorry I can't post the pictures as the Lingerie Mfg, has me under non disclosure.
The scenario is:-  say a blonded mainly tanned model a high cut [at the hips] corsette style basque, with an ultra low bra line.
Our dear model, has just come back from St Barts with a fabulous Tan, and equally striking bold Tan lines!.
So we have great tanned legs, then the 'porcelain white band' where her swimsuit was.
Likewise we have a tanned face, and arms, shoulders etc and a great tan on the top of the cleavage, then it stops, white band to the top of the ultralow cut bra line of the basque.
She must have lived in like the most conservative bikini on the planet [50's style], for 2 weeks!
Had she had a normal skimpy bikini on, no problem!

  • How to Apply adjustment layers to multiple layers that have different blending modes ...

How to Apply adjustment layers to multiple layers that have different blending modes  and keep the colours the same as the adjusment done?
I work in Animation painting Backgrounds.  My files are sometimes upwards to 200+ layers.
I will use adjustment layers to quickly balance colours and constrast on top of those many many layers.
The only way that I know of how to apply adjustment layers it to every single layer  ( by applying I mean I need to get rid of the adjustment layers because we cant use them in production but i need the new colours be applied to all layers underneath ) in a psd is to manually do it By duplicating the adjusment layer 200+ times and  then merging each layer to one of those adjustment layers so that that layer can take the adjustment layers effect permanently.
The issue is that Within Those 200 layers I have some layers set to Multiply or OVERLAY.    IT obviously wont apply the adjustment layer properly to those layers because those layer blend mode affect the layers under them. The colour wont be the same anymore in the spots that had the multiply blended mode.
HEres an example of a simple File.  to show what i mean.
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3408266/ball%20layers.jpg
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3408266/ball.psd
I have 2 adjustment layers up top.  I need to get rid of them by applying them to each layer! I cannot merge any of the layers. We need all those layers for production.
I can apply the adjustment layers manually and this works GREAT for all Layers set to normal.  THey take on the colour change just FINE.
However, The issue is that layer 6 and layer 4 are both set to mutiply and this screws up the colour once i apply the adjustment layers to each layer manually...
How can i apply my adjustment layers to a file like this with some layers being set to multiply while keeping the layers exactly the same configuration  and The new colour taking efffect exactly how i looks before i apply the adjustment layers?
Now the simple solution is to merge the multiply layers to the layer that it affects HOWEVER I NEED those multiply layers to be seperate!
I'm assuming what I want to do is impossible? Hope this isnt confusing.  As far as i know its impossible to do what I want it to do.  but just wanted to ask and see.
I would REALLY REALLY love to talk to a adobe programmer/ technician/pro working at adobe about this.  Theres just no way to get in touch with anyone... =(
    any thoughts ?

Sure... if you want to put it that way. Either way its not the desirable outcome.
its just frustrating that theres no way to apply adjustment layers to hundreds of layers while keeping them in the same configuration ( blendmodes,  layer order ,  without merging)  while keeping the same end result.
works great if all your layers are set to normal though..    But I really need to keep shadow layers seperately and be able to adjust on the fly aswell as apply those adjusment to all my layers.
I suppose that just isnt possible.   I understand the math required for this would be tremendous/ complicated if something like this would ever be implemented.  Would be nice if adobe could come up with some solution to this.  Its really a huge issue in my work flow and theres no alternatives.    How else can I adjust colours to 100+ layers  with a few clicks that lets me play around the the adjustment until im happy with the outcome.    Really wish i could adjust and the quickly apply that adjustment to all my layers regardless of blend mode.   LIke If the Layers with blendmode could somehow take the properties of the adjustment layer and keep adjusting those layers undereathe on top of that blended mode that its doing...

  • Layer colour change using dropper

    Hello,
Hardly ever used PSE before so bear with me!
I have an image of a car that i want to change the colour on, what I'd like to do is use the colour of a car from a different image.
    I found this guide : http://photography.tutsplus.com/tutorials/manipulating-the-color-of-an-automobile-in-photo shop--photo-965
I've followed it to create a separate layer that gives me the area of the car that I want to change the colour of, but I'm struggling to actually get the colour to change.
In step 3 it says "on the layer palette click on the color swatch. This will bring up the color palette but will also make a color picker eyedropper available."
I can't find how to bring that up in PSE, I appreciate it may be different in the full photoshop package vs PSE but I can't find how to bring it up.
I did find the option : Enhance -> Adjust Colour -> Replace Colour but I couldn't get it to work (i.e. change a colour) and it doesn't let you use the dropper to pick a new colour.
    Any help will be appreciated!

Here's another approach which is actually similar to the methods previously described.
    1. Select the portion of the car to be changed.
    2. Add a Solid Color fill layer and select your new color.
    3. Change the Blend Mode of the fill layer to Hue or Color (the result will be slightly different between the two).
    4. In case your initial selection was not precise, you can fine-tune the result: In the Layers palette click the mask portion of the fill layer. This sets the foreground/background color chip (at bottom of toolbar) to their default white/back values. Using a hard brush, paint with white to add the new color where needed, paint with black to remove excess new color. You can type "X" to toggle between white and black.
    Notes:
    - Before step 2 you can use the Color Picker to initially select the new color. The fill layer will then use that color.
    - You can always change the color by double-clicking the fill layer's thumbnail in the Layers Palette.
    - When you do the selection in step 1you don't have to worry about excluding thinks like the headlights and chrome. The Solid Color fill layer does not change "non-colors" like white, black, gray, silver.
    - If the color is too light or too dark you can add a Levels adjustment layer to darken or lighten.

  • ACR colour temperature changes not honoured

Using Win7 64bit, CS6 perpetual with xmp files as sidecars, I have made droplets that will open a nef file and run various processes before saving the file.
I have recently seen an issue where the droplet will not honour any colour temperature change I make in ACR (using 2010 profile).
If I have a batch of images shot together I would normally select one image, adjust colour temperature (say -500) and click "Done" to save the changes.  I would then select the remaining images in that batch (in Bridge) and apply the changes via delevop settings, pervious conversion.  The thumbnails in Bridge then get updated to reflect this change.
If I drop this folder on the droplet, the first image processed wil be the colour I require while the remainder will revert to "as shot" colour.
If I open any of the "incorrectly processed" raw files on their own (without making any changes tot he ACR settings) and run the same action from the action action palette, the colour change I have made is honoured.
Any ideas as to why this may happen?  I am not aware of any changes I have made that would cause this.
    Thanks for any help.

Preventing the MacBook from dynamically switching from integrated (not blue) to discrete (blue) is not really suitable for me. What is posted in above links are only workarounds that limit the functionailty of my device. I want to use the features of my Mac as intended by Apple to preserve battery life. I want both display drivers to show the same colour.
PRAM reset never worked for me.
Booting Mac, logging in then off and on again is also a workaround -- I think mentioned here somewhere previously. This is a major pain though, as you can imagine.
Thanks for drawing my attention to display mode switching as being the potential cause however.

  • Saving images from the screen in colour negative?

Is there any way to do a print screen of a portion of my screen when it is in colour negative, and keeping the image in colour negative? It always reverts back to normal when I try it.

So I think if you just want to modify the colour of your screen shots then open the picture that was taken and go to:
    Tools/ adjust colour
then modify your picture any way you like it and save...

  • Misteriously Colour Temperature change from my computer to others

Ok, I've been stuck with this strange problem now. Out of the blue it started happening and realised when I uploaded some pictures on Flickr. I open my NEF file (from Lightroom) as a Smart Object and start working upon it as normal. I move it to 8 bits when finished the first steps, save as a JPEG. Close the TIFF, open the JPEG, change a couple of things as some of my filters only allow me to work JPEG (at least they are always disabled otherwise). And save again. IF I open it up from my computer, the colours are ok. Whenever I upload to Flickr OR Facebook, OR email them to anyone, the colours change. Specially the temperature. And no, it's not the monitor because I can see them on Flickr with a different colour from my very own computer.
My basic workflow is as follows:
Lighrtoom 2.4 => [Open as .NET smart object into CS4] => CS4 Camera RAW [Adjust Colour Temperature, Saturation, Contrast, Vibration, etc, click ok, open all adjusted on CS4 Again] => Filters adjust [Topaz Adjust, Sometimes Noisewaire or Portraiture, Nik Colour Effect (I GUESS here is the problem but not sure).
When done with this first set, I change the picture from a 16bits format into a bits image in order to save as a JPEG. => [Save as] > .JPEG 12 (Minimum compression). I then close the open TIFF image and open the respective .JPEG image. All colours are exactly as I saved. All the same. I work upon a couple of more things (such as LUCISAR SE, for instance, smoothly). Save again. And that's it.
I found an answer in stuckincustoms.com. He had the same problem and found the answer in correctly Colour Settings:
[EDIT]=> [COLOUR SETTINGS] // Then select [Colour Management Policies] and move RGB to 'Convert to working RGB', all other 2 as OFF and click on 3 icons underneath. Save as a new file, close it all. Send. This seems to work sometimes, but not always. I'm not sure if it's the 'Nik Software Colour Effect' which is not holding...
Here are two links as an example. The first one is with the right colour settings. I've done what Ratcliff told. The second one 'cooled down', even so I did what he told me to. I mean, same workflow both, different results.

What do you mean "it dropped during transition."  If you are maintaining temperature at some level, then the transition should have no affect on the temperature unless you reinitialize or have wired a default number to the temperature you are trying to control.  I tried loading your program.  I don't have the instrument controls for the instrument you are using -- not a problem -- but it is hard to follow what you are doing.  It looks like you have many different setpoints all coming from the ni435x read.vi in a 2d array.  You should check that the values you expect out of that array are correct for each of the points that you use it.

The 'Replace Color Tool' (one of the Bitmap Tools) is what
    you are
looking for. After you select it you will be able to use the
    eyedropper
to pick your 'from' and 'to' colors.

  • Colour assurance when using printing house

I have had problems with colour accuracy when using a printing house to make prints bigger than the A3 that I can manage on my Photo 1290 although ones I have printed have been correct. Would a colour chart and grey step wedge on a border help the printing house to adjust colours to be correct? Or is the fault mine, I have had no comments indicating colour problems from the stock libraries that I have supplied with digital files?
Advice would be appreciated on a) how to correct the problem if I am at fault or b) how to ensure the grey scale and colour patches conform to a standard, because if the fault is mine then the scales could also be wrong.
I'm using Mac Leopard, photoshop CS3.

"I have had problems with colour accuracy when using a printing house to make prints bigger than the A3 that I can manage on my Photo 1290 although ones I have printed have been correct."
What exactly are you seeing that is causing your concern?
" Would a colour chart and grey step wedge on a border help the printing house to adjust colours to be correct? Or is the fault mine, I have had no comments indicating colour problems from the stock libraries that I have supplied with digital files?"
A color chart would do you little good. A gray step could tell you if their process is properly gray balanced and linearized. I don't know which printing service you are using, but most have an automatic assumption that you are feeding sRGB, kind of a lowest common denominator. The best thing to do, if you have access to the capability, is, of course, to make your own custom profile of their printer, but you'll still be subject to their process control - y'know - variabilities in printer calibration and chemical process stability.
Does the vendor you are dealing with actually have a printer profile you can download and use or do they just tell you to send the file in. Are there any guidelines from them at all?
You might consider buying a larger, newer Epson and bringing it all in house.
