Adjusting Contrast While Turning On Laptop Causes Flashing Globe

When I turn on my laptop in a dark room I sometimes make the mistake of trying to turn down contrast before the laptop has finished booting up. When I do this it always causes a flashing globe (image of the earth) to appear on the screen and it keeps flashing for a minute or two until it finally stops and boots as normal. Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on when that happens?

It's always been a hardware issue, they just never successfully fixed it and declared it software related, hence why I had it in numerous times for the same issue
If the above fix doesn't solve your issue, then it sounds like a problem with the NVRAM that stores such information as what to boot from etc. and it's not showing up as a problem with their testers, but it is under daily use.
It's very highly likely they erased the drive and reinstalled the operating system at least once during the many times you took it in to eliminate a software issue.
My apple care just expired within the last few days and there's no way I can afford to pay out of pocket to have it fixed now (this last repair would of been $800 according to the receipt had I not had apple care).
It seems they have been misdiagnosing what in hardware is causing your issue and replacing the wrong thing or it's a casscade effect where something breaks and causes other parts to fail later.
I would take the machine back to Apple again and tell them it's still not properly fixed and if they resist, then pursue legal, public shaming and/or government action to get them to fix your machine properly or replace it with a used model.

The quick answer is, hook up the tv to the computer, close the lid, then wake the computer up by clicking the mouse while the lid is closed. Not sure if it'll work while running windows, but I'd bet it does if you have the mac drivers installed on the win os.

Adjusting contrast in a PDF document with multiple pages

I have seen a question asked several times in various forums and it never gets an answer: how do you adust the contrast and brightness of a scanned PDF if it has several pages? You can't do it in Acrobat, and there are no third-party tools that I've found that work. If you have Photoshop, there is a solution to the problem, which does not require adjusting every page in a document. I use a high-speed duplex hopper-fed scanner to copy books or articles I need for my school work (no, I don't violate copyright by giving them away). There is no way to adjust contrast at the scanner level, so I end up with a 700-page document that is too light or too dark.
1. Use Acrobat to extract all the pages to separate files.
2. Use Adobe Bridge Tools>Rename to serially rename all the pages, so that Photoshop sees them in the right order and they can be reassembled later. There are other free or cheap tools for batch renaming that work equally well.
3. Experiment with your settings on a sample page in Photoshop, until you find one that works. I usually use auto-contrast, or adjust the curves myself.
4. Perform whatever other manipulation you need to on the document page, such as resizing or changing mode to greyscale.
5. Create an action following the same steps.
6. Run a batch process on all the pages in your undone folder, saving them to a done folder. Override the Open and Save settings to avoid dialogue boxes and so on.
7. Reassemble the document from the individual pages using the Combine function in Acrobat.
I use this method frequently, making small adjustments to the action as necessary. It takes a while to do a large document, but it solves a lot of problems. One problem that is very hard to solve, however, is caused by scanning cheap paper, which makes the scans come out blotchy and grey, and very hard to re-contrast without losing resolution. Acrobat can help solve this problem sometimes with the Optimize Document functions, but in general, it's easier to scan better, whiter paper than rescue it later. One solution is to scan only one side at a time, and then use a third-party PDF tool to interleave the pages.
If you have a lot of documents to do that can use more or less the same settings, create a Droplet macro in Photoshop and drag your page folders to it, instead of running a batch.

Vulnerability Scanner causes Flash Remoting Status Description to return null

I'm having an issue with Flash Remoting that we have been able to track down as being cause by our vulnerability scanner. About 2 minutes into the scan process it causes flash remoting to fail and it does not recover until the ColdFusion Application Service is restarted. What's worse is that I'm not seeing any errors in the log to identify that there is a problem and it's a error the end user is seeing and reporting to notify me of the issue.
Any thoughts of what might be causing this? Is there any logging I can enable to help troubleshoot / identify when I have a problem?

Ipod won't turn on. Just flashes apple logo

I have 64GB Blue iPod Touch Personalized that I purchased in 2013 (not sure what generation that was, whatever was being sold in the April timeframe). I use it at work and it's not connected to WiFi and I don't bring it home very often to be updated. The last time it worked it looked like it wanted to do an update but since I was at work and couldn't connect to WiFi I didn't do anything. The next time I went to use it it had shut itself off, even though it was pluged in to a docking station and now when I try to turn it on it flashes the apple logo and then it slowly fades away. I brought it home and let the battery die hoping that would help, left it charging on my computer for a day and all it does while connected to the computer is flash the apple logo and then fade away. It does not show that my Ipod is connected in Itunes and it doesn't look like it's charging because every now and then when I unplug it it flashes the low battery screen, on occasion but not every time. I've tried the home and sleep button to no avail. Help!

I have a server running Ciscoworks LMS 4.2.3 version. Server has been working without any issues.
Now when I try to go into Netconfig Jobs, I get the following popup:

I've been looking at various threads similar to my situation and tried several, to no avail.

It may be that the related services are down. Share the output of NMSROOT/bin/pdshow -brief from the server to share service status.
Many times, it happens when the port required by service is being used by other. Try the following procedure and see it works :
1.Stop daemon manager: net stop crmdmgtd
2.Go the location: CSCOpx\MDC\tomcat\webapps\rme\WEB-INF\lib take a copy of the following
file and them delete them: ctmregistery and ctmregistery.backup
3.Restart the daemon manager: net start crmdmgtd (wait for 10 minutes)
Check if everything works fine.

Greyscale image, can't adjust contrast/levels.

A very recent problem - I have some greyscale scanned images - nothing fancy, batch-scanned via document feeder at 600 dpi - and my problem is this: I try to adjust contrast or levels, I see the effect I want in the image as I do so, but when I dismiss the contrast/levels dialogue, the change doesn't 'stick'.
I can delete parts of an image, paint-bucket for example works fine, I can save. I expect it's something obvious :(

bitmap mode, in that scanned grayscale images of line or halftone pics tend to have very little gray information. It's made mostly of black or white pixels. So Level or Curves adjustments have little effect. In addition, you will get a FALSE preview on any Level/Curves adjustments on these types of images when viewed at less than 100%. Just as you describe.
Same thing would happen if you took a detailed 1-bit file and converted to grayscale. The Levels/Curves adjustments would be available. A preview at less than 100% might show that Levels are lightening or darkening. But when you commit the command, the adjustment seems to disappear! That is because you only have 0 or 255 pixels, you can't lighten white and you can't darken black and there are no pixels in-between to affect.
