Adjusting Date & Time of Photos

Under the Image menu, there's an option to change the date and time.  When I click on a group of 20 photos and choose that option, it that all 20 will be adjusted.  But not all 20 are actually adjusted.  What am i missing?

Hi Terence, thanks for your reply. Here is a couple of images of what the photo data looks like while on the hard drive (note the 2007 date), and after being imported to Photos for Mac (where the 2007 date has completely disappeared and therefore it organises it as a 2015 photo. Does this help?

  • WARNING: Adjust Date & Time doesn't work

I bought Aperture 2.0 because I was thrilled they finally have an adjust date/time feature. The interface is great, but it simply doesn't work.
I was trying to adjust a batch of images by 30 seconds to get it in sync with another camera, however, it ended up adjusting it by 30 minutes!
I was trying to get the time to change from:
    1:33:09 PM to
    1:32:39 PM
and the image ended up at
    1:00:33 PM
Anyone else had a similar problem or a solution for this serious bug?

I added my own topic earlier this morning. In my case, it's working just fine if my primary image is RAW and all selected images are also RAW (Canon 300D). It also works just fine if the primary and all selected images are JPEG (from either a Canon S3 or a Panasonic Lumix digicam). However, if the primary image is RAW (Canon 300D) and any selected images are JPEG (anything modified in iPhoto, or originally shot in JPEG from by Canon 300D), all **** breaks loose on those JPEG image dates.
I have some which went back a few months, but most of them jumped forward between 6 months and 2 years.
Again, something is severely broken with this function.
Anyone know how to get the original dates back? Please? I'm setting aside several hours tonight to restore the pre-2.0 backup, export my 2.0-only projects, and import those back in, just forgetting any changes I'd made to historical project files in the meantime. This really *****.

  • Adjust date/time for multiple images

Wonder if anyone else is having this problem (some posts seem similar but not exactly the same)
    1. Clean library (mix of DNG, JPEG and TIFF files)
    2. Need to change dates to match other images in the project
    3. Selected multiple images and used Metadata -> Adjust Date/Time
    4. "Lead" image (bright white box) date and time adjusted accordingly but other images in the selection date have their capture date and time generated apparently randomly (I'm trying to set 08/01/2008 but I'm getting anything from 27/03/1982 to 24/12/2010!)
    5. The dates do appear random - repeating the process will lead to different dates in the IPTC field
    6. I've clean installed everything - drive format, OSX10.6.2, Aperture 3 - and rebuilt the library. The problem remains unchanged!
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Adrian

I'd actually looked at this before attempting the metadata adjustment but checked it again just now to ensure I wasn't missing anything.
I guess if it's a shift based on the relative differences in the date of the imaes selected then that could explain the apparent random variations I'm getting. Although this would certainly be useful for the time stamp, when I'm trying to ensure all images in a project have the same date, relative changes certainly aren't!
I'd have to run it again tonight to confirm by comparing before/after adjustment dates. If that's what going on I think I'll have to get Adobe Bridge to do the heavy lifting for me..... just a shame I have to drag in another app rather than doing everything inside Aperture.

  • Aperture 3.1.2 on 10.6.7 mangles TIFF masters after adjust date/time

Bumping the following thread that's now a year old:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11799201
Adjusting date/time in Aperture 3.1.2, ticking the "also change master file" option now causes Aperture to display a "unsupported image format" box, also indicating that the pixel size is 900x600.
I'm at a loss, any ideas?

    Matt,
Welcome to the user-supported Aperture discussion group.
Does this happens with all TIFFs? Do your TIFFs happen to be from a scanner? If so you may be interested in [this topic|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12924902&#12924902].

  • Adjusting Date/Time Corrupts Masters

I have an issue with Aperture 3.1.1. I would appreciate any comments or thoughts.
I have scanned some slides, and imported them into Aperture. During the import I renamed them (masters also) to include the file date (20110111_001 etc.) I stored the masters in a folder on the hard drive of my MacBook Pro.
At this point everything is fine, however, the file date is incorrect. I use Adjust Date/Time to set the date to 19750901_etc. After this step the master becomes a solid black image. No detail of any kind. Preview will not display it, and neither will Aperture. The original image is not recoverable. The versions are generally OK, but some take on the solid black image.
Obviously this is worrying, so I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if I’m just doing something wrong.
    Thanks
    Garry

    Sliek,
    *I found a solution!*
There are many date tags in the JPEG standard. It appears that your scanner software makes a "Create Date" tag, but no "Date Time Original" tag. (See my footnote about this.) However, When operating on a regular JPG, Aperture's "Adjust Date and Time" in master function updates both of those tags if they are there.
When applying that function to your 15M scan, Aperture truncates some of the EXIF data and the master looses a little tiny bit of its file size. It consequently cannot be read as a valid picture.
Here's the solution, and it's pretty easy as long as you're not afraid of the command prompt. I used EXIFTool to create the "Date Time Original" tag using the date from the "Create Date" tag. Obviously the new file was marginally larger, but it also survived the "Adjust Date and Time" function! Here's the command I used:
    exiftool '-CreateDate>DateTimeOriginal' Scan-110106-0002.jpg
So, you've uncovered one of two problems here:
    1. Your scanner program writes a flawed header on the JPG; or
    2. Aperture pukes when it cannot update "Date Time Original" if it can update "Create Date".
I have not played with existing "good" files from a camera to determine what happens when I remove "Date Time Original" and put that picture through the Date adjustment torture. That would validate or invalidate choice 1.
Let me know if this solution sounds viable and you would like more help. EXIFTool is easily scriptable, and you can run it on all files in a directory to perform the same function in one fell swoop.

    Footnote:
DateTimeOriginal: date/time when original image was taken
CreateDate: Date the image was digitized and made into a JPG.
So, in theory, DateTimeOriginal is what you are trying to modify, while CreateDate should be when you put your print through the scanner. It makes sense that the scanner doesn't fill in CreateDate, as that usually isn't part of the functionality of scanner software.

  • Does Adjust Date & Time Modify EXIF data?

If I use the adjust date and time does it modify the exif data in the original photo, so if I export the photos elsewhere it will preserve these edits? I was using Picasa and fixed the date and time on a few photos only to find them back to 1/1/2002 when I imported my photos to iPhoto

I just saw this checkbox today and hoped it meant that. I've really wanted this feature for a long time now.

  • Adjusting Date/Time

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
Let me start by saying I am totally frustrated!!! I am trying to adjust the dates/times from a 10 day vacation. I have created an album for each day of the trip and would like the correct date for each album to be reflected in the info window. Having said that, I got pictures from other people on the trip and of course they never set their cameras to the correct date/time. So when I used the feature to "Adjust Date and Time", I now have photos that still have the incorrect date. Some of them aren't even in the same year. I am assuming this is happening since the date set on their camera was probably 5 or more years before the current year.
One thing that is odd is the fact that when I do a sort of my entire library, they are sorted entirely correctly. So that is good, I guess I am just a little anal and when I look at the info window, I want to see the date the picture was taken.
So my question is, is there a way to get a group of photos to reflect the date I want? At this point I really don't care about the time but wouldn't mind if that worked as well. I just don't want the photos to say they are from 2010 or later, when they aren't.
    Thanks

Try selecting the event or album and using batch change from the "photos" menu.
There you can select time, date, or description.
This would set all the photos to the same date and time.
    Also modify original.
I believe that is what you're looking for.
    good luck
BTW if you didn't know the "adjust time and date" shifts selected photo date, time the amount selected.
Handy if you camera was off and hour or whatever.

  • How to print date & time in photos

    Thanks for the help.
I need to print either photos with time and dates in them... or the Bridge contact sheet with date and time info.
The final printed image will be used in court to photo document evidence.
Do I have to do a screen capture or is there some other way?
My camera will not allow me to imprint time and date.
I'm using CS4 on both Windows and Mac.
Thanks again in advance for the taking the time to help.

I think there are (various) Scripts about for that.
    For example addExifDate1.5.jsx:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1346521
One should be able to adapt it to include the time.
You could ask in the Photoshop Scripting Forum or http://www.ps-scripts.com/

  • N95 DAte & time in photos

How can i put date & time in my photos?

You can edit your pictures in the PC and add the date and time stamp there but I don't know of any fast and easy way to do it.
Anyway, the metadata of the picture has the date and time that the picture was taken so you can still organize the pictures in your pc by date taken.

  • Date & Time on Photos

Hi there,  Need to be able to show & print  date & time on the photos I take with my 9320, can anybody suggest how.

On page 38 of the User Guide for your camera, it tells you to put the camera in Postcard Mode and then on the bottom of the page it shows how to turn on the date stamp. I don't know if you want to use this mode or not though.
iPhoto cannot add the date stamp to your photo. I searched VersionTracker.com and found 2 programs for Windows that can add the date stamp but I didn't find any for MacOS X.

  • Adding Date/Time on photos?

I have a Canon SD800IS camera and it does not seem to allow me to put a timestamp on the actual photo unless it's in some specific high resolution portrait picture mode. Is there some way iPhoto can put the date on my photos? It's amazing my expensive camera does not have this feature, unless i'm wrong, it does have the date and time but i see no option to timestamp my photos. Thanks.

  • BUG: LR 2.1 adjusts date/time back 1 hour

I'm really really annoyed. When I import images into LR 2.1, it changes the date/time of the image back by 1 hour - I assume its changing to standard time from daylight savings time. Why is this done? There doesn't seem to be a configuration option for this.

    "CR Henderson - 4:40pm Nov 23, 08 PST (#35 of 35)
A work around that I have used since LR 1.0:
    1. Set camera time to GMT and leave it there.
    2. Take pictures and download them to PC hard drive.
    3. Convert to .DNG using DNG Converter
    4. Run ExifTool GUI on files and use XMP: DateTime copy from EXIF
    5. Import into LR
#4 sets the XMP time to the EXIF time and removes the time zone offset, i.e. the XMP time is set to be the EXIF time with zero offset and since that is what I have my cameras set to things work out well. With the XMP time already set LR doesn't mess with it (or at least versions 1x-2.1 haven't).
It is possible the above will work for other RAW files supported by ExifTool GUI. I know it does with the Canon CR2 files I use (30D, 40D)."
Personally, having paid for the software, (it isn't freeware) I would like a FIX rather than a workaround. A little response from Adobe as to when it will be fixed would be appreciated, if it is not too much trouble?
The last Date / Time issue required purchase of a new version, I hope this will not be a trend in LR. As others have pointed out just writing and reading the EXIF time is not rocket science. It is just a matter of trying to get the LR programmers to leave it alone (since the beta!) and not keep messing around with it. There has never been any explanation of what they were attempting to accomplish by modifying EXIF Date / Time?

  • Adjust Date & Time doesn't stick on export

I have scanned over 2000+ negatives in a Tiff format. I created a temporary iPhoto Library so I could import them in, sort them in albums, and make some edits (crop and straighten). So far so good. I have now for each album adjusted the date and time (I also checked the box for change original file). My next step was to export these albums to folders with the edit pics to the Finder (The reason is to run a photoshop action on all the pics to remove some scan noise and to convert the Tiffs to Jpeg). The once done I was going to import the final pics to my master Library
The problem seams to be that when exporting the pics the changes in dates from within iPhoto are gone. The Finder is showing the scan date not the modified dates....
Any help would be greatly appriciated
Does anyone know a work around to this problem?

    Tony:
As Larry pointed out scanned images are not created with the EXIF data fields. Those must use the file created/modified dates.
I found a way that works for me as far as keeping photos organized chronologically and alphanumerically. I rename them, before importing into iPhoto, with the international date and a brief description as follows: [email protected]. I upload to a folder with the title 04/12/09-Easter @ TH and then drag that folder into the open iPhoto window.
This gives me an Event with the title I want and the files with a file name that can be easily searched or sorted chronologically or alphanumerically. A little work upfront saves a lot of headaches later down the line.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Adjust Date/Time of Imported Video

I had to convert a couple of .MTS files to .MOV to bring them into Final Cut Pro X. I made this videos before I realized I needed to archive the file structure. I haven't been able to find the area in Final Cut that lets me adjust the date and time of a clip. All of my metadata is wrong because it is using the .MOV file creation date.
    Thanks!

One way is to trim the left edge of the timeline track with the mouse (grab the left edge of the blue rectangle under the canvas and drag it right.)
Another is to position the playhead at the frame you want to start the clip playing and type the 'i' key (mark an "IN" point).
You can slide the trimmed video play range in time by dragging the blue rectangle under the canvas.

  • PSE 10 organizer changing date times of photos

I have been having an issue since PSE9 which continues into PSE 10 organizer. After scaning photos and saving into organizer it will not allow assingment of jsut a year or a year month. If I take an old family photo and change date (scanned date) to year 1930 with unknown month it appears to take. Nect I time go into organizer it has changed the date to 12/31/1929. When I assign year and month with no date it will assing a day. PSE 10 also changes time of raw photos, keeps correct year, month, and day but changes time to the time file imported. If I correct the time it appears to take but it reverts back. This has become a major issue as I have over 16K of pictures and have scanned in thousands of old family photos, reasearching dates to use, it is extremetly frustarating to have a program that changes these settings.

PSE 10 organizer now displays SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES as the title for every imported image.  This is very annoying.   How to I prevent PSE from assigning this attribute to the title metadata upon import?   I have thousands of photos, and going through each one to delete the title isn't really an option.   Has anyone encountered this type of behavoir?
Windows 7 pro, if that matters.
