Adjusting DSLR video clip

I would like to trim/adjust the audio part of a movie produced on a Nikon DSLR. If I hit the audio icon in imovie I can adjust the sound volume, fade, etc but I cannot find a tool to trim the audio.
I merely wish to ignore the first half of the movie clip audio and cut out the sound altogether.
It seems easier to import a separate movie from the imovie library or itunes than adjust an audio clip that was imported into imovie directly from a DSLR movie.

Thanks for your reply.
I understand your instructions up to the right click/split but do not understand how to adjust the video portion of the AVI file that my DSLR created. I am left with a yellow border and red line at the base after split/clip and am automatically created new event library folder containing the files. After dragging this clip into the project library I see no audio split or other indications that the clip is any different to a normal AVI file.
Adding sound (itunes, etc) I do understand but not how to adjust existing AVI sound files.

  • No volume adjustment for video clips

    Hi there!
I have noticed that the volume adjustment for video clips, set in the options pane of the clip itself, will not be respected by iTunes while playing the video.
Is there someone else with a similar issue or already with a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

I've tested all versions since 10.0.1 (for PC) and none work. Versions 10.0.1 and below will allow you to change the volume adjustmant and the equalizer setting for individual videos. No answer from apple!  You can try an older version like I did.

  • No longer able to adjust the length of a video clip in imovie 6 HD

Without warning (or reason) I can no longer adjust the length of a video clip (new or old) in imovie. I've tried the old way of highlighting the clip and putting the cursor at the start or end, but the cursor doesn't change. I've also tried double clicking on the clip but then the length is fixed.
This problems happens in new and old movies and remained after I deleted and reinstalled imovie.

I searched further using the correct word (trim) and found that I had to turn off the audio levels

  • Best way to adjust lighting in video clips

Is there a "best" way to adjust lighting conditions within a video clip?  I have a clip with terrible lighting conditions and cannot reshoot the scenario.
While I don't expect a perfect solution, I am hoping that there are better approaches than the ones I've been using.  If recommendations include third-party plugins, I would appreciate hearing about them, as well.
I have been using the gamma corrector and luma corrector filters.  The gamma corrector adjustments in greater values, but seems to only work in discrete steps.  So, if the gamma needs to be stepped up or down within a clip, there is a very visible and sometimes jarring visual effect.  The luma corrector seems to only be able to increase the brightness level (through a combination of all 5 or 6 variables including brightness, gain, gamma, etc.) before the clip looks washed out.
    Thanks,
    Steve

All CC and Grading should start with "Levels"
You could then go into 3-Way Color Correction.
You could also look at a more powerful CC such as Colorista 2

  • How do I adjust video clip and audio start times?

I cant figure out how to adjust the start time of video clips and songs.  I want my music and video clips to start at different times. I am trying to have music and pictures start at the same time at the begining of the movie then transition into my videos at a specific time.   Also i am wondering if there is a way to combine the whole video and image segment into one block and be able to shift it up and down the timeline?  Does anyone know how to do this?  Thanks

instead of adding music to the background, 'stick' the music-clip to your video clip => the music appears as a green bar, you can move, shorten etc as any other clip.
…  if there is a way to combine the whole video and image segment into one block and be able to shift it up and down the timeline?  …
    not in iMovie.
this is one of the major features (grouping and magentic timeline) of FCPX

  • Lightroom 5.2 DSLR video edit - spot removal

Video editing is not currently supported in the Develop module.
Thanks to Julieanne Kost's Adobe TV module "Working with DSLR video", I know there is a workaround.
I know that I can use a develop module preset to apply an edit from a captured frame of video.
Most, but not all develop module settings are availalbe via this technique.
One setting that is not is "spot edit heal".
I have a small dust spot that appears in every frame of video in a blue water background shot underwater with my housed Nikon D7100.
Is there a way to remove it with Lightroom?

Well if you have a recent version of PS there are certainly a lot of possibilities to work with video. On Mrs. Kost's fabulous site you will find a lot of information about working with video in PS.
I know this is a LR forum but may I give a quick hint? Open your clip in PS and change your workspace to "Motion". Select the video layer and choose Layer - Smart Objects - Convert to Smart Object,
Now you can use  Filter - Camera Raw filter. This gives you about the same possibilities as Lightroom's adjustments, including Spot removal. Since you turned your video layer into a Smart object, the adjustment will be applied to every frame.

After applying settings to a video, only the first frame of the video has been affected (when viewed outside of LR).  Also, After Effects will not import the video regardless of what format I choose to export as.  It would be nice to utilize LR as my video color correcting tool, but so far no such luck.

  • Can I edit out the middle of a video clip in iMovie?

I know how to crop the beginning or end of a video, but I would like to crop out a section in the middle. I don't want to lose the part following the cropped frames. What must I do? Thanks for any advice you can offer. Miriam

Can I edit out the middle of a video clip in iMovie?
    Yes.
    What must I do?
    Basically you have three options:
    1) If the clip is in the "Event" window, simply select (i.e., set and adjust if necessary "in" and 'out" points) the segment you want and transfer it to your "Project" window and place it where you want it.
    2) If the clip is already in the "Project" window, simply select (i.e., set and adjust if necessary "in" and 'out" points) the segment you want to keep...
    a) and press the "Split" option in the edit menu (or the "Split Clip" option in the context menu) to divide the clip into three segments. Then select each of the segments you don't want and press the "Delete" key to remove them from the "Project" window.
    b) or, even easier, simply press the "Trim to Selection" option in the "Edit" menu.
All of these work flows do not physically remove anything from the "Event" but merely perform a non-destructive edit of the project for the purpose of later output.

Great intro video for video, thanks!  It seems like it would be a great feature if instead of having to export the jpg to use develop settings there was just an option to go straight to develop using the current frame and have Lightroom create that jpg automatically...

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
This sounds like a split screen effect to me.
If so, one view on Video 1 and the other directly above that is the other view on Video 2.
Then crop each so that each occupies 1/2 the Edit area monitor screen.
(generalized since I do not know your program version, see effects Transform/Crop).
I wrote the following in 2011 for a Premiere Elements 8 user in another forum
Your basic tools to achieve your goal are Crop Video Effect and Horizontal Flip Video Effect.
Video ONE on video track 1.
Video TWO on video track 2, directly above Video ONE.
Highlight Video ONE on video track 1, Edit Mode/Effects/Video Effects/Transform/Crop, followed by adjusting the crop under Edit Effects (see bottom of Effects Panel) so that Video ONE occupies the left half of the screen.
Do the same for Video TWO on video track 2, Edit Mode/Effects/Video Effects/Transform/Crop etc. so that Video TWO occupies the right half of the screen. BUT end with Edit Mode/Effects/Video Effects/Transform/Horizontal Flip.
Highlight the video on either side to make adjusts in the Properties Palette and appropriate Panel (position, cropping, etc). But, remember that if you make changes in the "flipped" right side of the screen, Edit Effects/Crop Panel right option will be for left and left option will be for right.
You may or may not need the "flip" part of the effect.
Please review and consider. If I have misinterpreted your question, please let me know with details and I will rethink what you seek.
    Thanks.

  • How do I mute the audio of a video clip in PS 6

I have video clips on several layers in the timeline and want to mute the audio of specific video clips - they are on video lines, not the audio line

an interesting development as I proceed with the video. I guess I'm missing an integral concept here. It appears that some of my cideo clips import into the project and the segments have a blue color. These offer an option to fade in or out the audio, to mute the audio or adjust the volume.
Other vidoe clips import purple, like the still image files, and hence these do not offer any audio options, just motion objects.
So, what am I doing wrong? Why do some video clips import (purple) as image files?

  • How can I raise the volume on a video clip in Premiere Elements 12?

I want to raise the volume on a video clip in Premiere Elements 12. Can anyone help?

Always good to give the computer operating system involved in case any computer specific details needed to be included. But here is your
generalized yet specific answer for Premiere Elements 12 and increasing the volume of a video clip.
If you are in the Expert workspace...
    a. click and drag upward the orange band that runs horizontally through the middle of the audio clip.
    or
    b. go to Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/ Volume Panel expanded on move the volume slide toward +6 dB.
0 db does not represent no sound. It represents the volume of the sound when it was recorded. 0 to +6 dB increases the sound above the recording level; 0 to infinity symbol decreases the sound below the recording level, finally to muted sound.
Please let us know if you are OK with the details above. My blog post on PE12: Audio Features may be useful to you.

  • How can I make the wireframe identical for various video clips?

    Hello,
For the end credits on a small movie, I would like the video clips to be much smaller, and the background to be black. I know how to make the clips smaller on the screen, and this is done by adjusting the wireframe.
I am trying to have the wireframe remain in its identical size and location across various clips but cannot figure how to do this other than change the wireframe independently for each single video clip, making it an approximate job.
Is there a way to ensure that the properties of the wireframe (size, position) remain constant for a series of clips? I have tried to find some properties settings for the wireframe which I could replicate for all clips but this search has proved unsuccessful.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

Use the Paste Attributes command as detailed in this link:

Instead of checking the Filters box, check the Basic Motion box.
