Adjusting frame size for drop zones

I posted this question in the Final Cut Forum, but I thought this might be a good place to ask as well.
I exported a wide screen movie out of fce and plopped it on a drop zone on the main theme page in iDVD. The movie has that black band at the top like like it would if it was being played as a wide screen movie on your tv. It there a setting I can adjust to make that movie completely that drop zone?
Thank you,
Scott

I wish I had good news for you but I do not. I've been working for the last hour trying to find a solution for you and I cannot within iDvd alone. This particular theme is highly limited on my own system as well.
I'm wondering if there might be a way to resize the movie in QT Pro but it will take me considerably more time to find this type of solution for a movie as opposed to a still image.
I won't have a solution for you today but I will keep this in mind.

  • Advice on sequence settings - frame size for VHS video in FCP

    Hello,
I was hoping that I could get some advice on editing and output for video captured from VHS Tapes to ensure the best quality possible.
My current workflow to digitize the VHS tapes is:
VHS signal from JVC S7600u with TBC into ADVC 300 (no de-interlace or other filters set) into a Mac Pro via firewire.  Capture preset in FCP is DV NTSC 48khz.
Once in FCP - the captured VHS video frame size is 720 X 480, Vid rate is 29.97, pixel aspect is NTSC-CCIR 601 and field dominance is lower (even)
    My questions are:
If my final destination is for You Tube sharing , are these the best sequence/ frame size settings or should I convert the sequence frame size to 640 X 480, or should I leave at 720 X 480 while working in FCP and then output to Compressor and select the H264 you tube sharing video setting and change the frame size to 640 X 480?
Should I de- interlace for internet/youtube destination?
    Should I de-interlace for DVD/TV destination?
If I want to burn the finished project to DVD and watch the video on a progressive montitor/ TV screen, what would be the best settings/frame size for that?
If any of you out there have experience with editing vcr/analog video in FCP and have a good workflow to ensure best quality, I would really appreciate  any advice/suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

Digitize to 720X480 frame size in FCP. In compressor, your YouTube preset will automatically deinterlace and a square pixel aspect ratio. No deinterlacing for DVD.

  • Adjusting a still frame in a drop zone

In previous versions of iDVD, you could move the still image in a drop zone by clicking on it (mainly horizontally -centering an image). In iDVD 08, you can't click on the drop zone and adjust. Checked the help page but no mention. Any suggestions on how to move an image within a drop zone?
    thanks

Thanks for the two quick responses!! You gotta love the immediate assistance you receive on this site. Either I missed this on the idvd help option or they never posted it.

  • Resize Pictures for Drop Zone?

I read a thread from about a year ago that brought up resizing images to get them to fit in a drop zone correctly. I just started using idvd and just ran into this problem, and it truly annoys me that Apple wouldn't allow resizing and image within idvd to get it to fit, or drag what part of the image shows in the drop zone...
Anyone have a solution, or is this still a "pay to get it" type of thing with pro tools...

So what you really need is to reposition the image within the drop zone (as opposed to resizing) .... is this correct?
If so, have you already tried holding down the control key as you click and drag the image to the desired position?
Repositioning an image or movie in a drop zone
When you drag a picture or movie into a drop zone, the aspect ratio of the image is preserved, but it is scaled larger or smaller to fill the drop zone. As a result, sometimes part of the image is cut off and does not appear in the drop zone. In this case, you can move the image to choose which portion is visible in the drop zone.
To reposition an image or movie in a drop zone:
From the drop zone on the menu (not in the drop zone editor), click the image or movie and press Command.
Drag the image until the part you want is visible in the drop zone.
Keep these things in mind as you position an image:

If you drag a narrow image to a drop zone, the image is scaled vertically, and you can move the image up or down only.

If you drag a wide image to a drop zone, the image is scaled horizontally, and you can move the image side to side only.

If you accidentally drag the image too far, you will remove it from the drop zone. (The cursor changes from a hand to a puff of smoke.) Choose Edit > Undo to restore the image to the drop zone.
Repositioning a movie in a drop zone is different from selecting which part of a movie shows in a drop zone (which allows you to select which frame of the movie is displayed in a drop zone). For more information, see Related Topics below.

  • Photo too large for drop zone

Often when I drag a photo into the drop zone of a main menu, the photo goes in but is displayed so large that much of the subject is cropped out. Anyone have a way of shrinking the photo down so that the entire photo can be seen in the menu?

I have found that size of the photo is rarely a problem. The problem is simply getting that portion of the photo you are interested in to show. The drop zone photo areas are small, therefore, you generally are placing photos of people that were taken from distances of 5 to 10 feet. The faces are the key to being satisfied with the photo in the drop zone ( or the car, or the motorcylcle, etc.) FORTUNATELY, you can drop the photo in the zone, and then place your cursor on the photo and move it around so that exactly the area of the photo you are concerned with will show! By moving my photos ( in effect a cropping occurs without the loss of any part of the photo. It would be like looking at a 4X6" photo and placing a 1X3" frame on it. Move the frame around to get what you want and VOILA! Hope this enables you to accomplish your drop zone objective.

  • Importing PPT files in PAL sequence...can't adjust frame size

i've been working on DV PAL sequences with imported powerpoint
files. I'm very disapointed with the result (it bleeds and is pixelised) and noticed that the .jpeg frame sizes i imported are either 720 * 540 or 960*720 ( i tried converting through power point on 2 different Computers, one Mac, one PC).
I can't seem to change the frame size when converting the slides in PPT.
Could that be why the end result is so disapointing and does anybody know if adjusting the frame size is possible in PPT?
    Thanks for your help.
    Tee.

    Thanks Kevin for your suggestions.
Good idea but i just have too many slides to import, and won't be needing to highlight them. They're mostly used in split screens, which makes the plain old PPT slides less boring.
I've read many posts, and do understand that PPT in FCP just doesn't yield satisfying results, but my results really bleeds, and i wanted to make sure i had all the settings working at my advantage.
As i stated earlier, I noticed my imported JPEGs were 720x540 while my sequence is PAL Anamorphic.
I finaly figured out how to change the PPT export settings that seemed to have constrained proportions on frame size, and blocked for NTSC settings. Changing the "page set up" i could then get 720 * 576 (or more of course).
    I then Save as->Jpeg->no compression
But the result is still as bad, even with higher dpis.
The Grab solution also gives me the bleeding.
It of course looks a lot better on the TV i use as an external monitor, but end edit is to be viewed on computers.
That is probably what my question should be. How can i get the best possible results importing a 4:3 slide in an anamorphic sequence, destined for computer screen viewing...
    Thanks for your time.

  • Adjusting frame size question

Could someone help me with something?
I’m downloading video from a Canon Vixia HF 10 into Final Cut Express for editing. Then I'm exporting that video/movie into iDVD. When I pop it into a drop zone on the main theme page in iDVD the movie doesn’t fill out the entire space available in that drop zone. It has black space above the movie just like a movie does when played in wide screen mode on your tv. Are there settings in fce where I can adjust the movie so it won’t play in wide screen mode, and thus completely fill up in the drop zone, or is this some that needs to be addressed in iDVD?
    Thank you ever so much,
    Scott

You could select a piece of your video, double-click it so it opens in the Viewer, click the Motion tab in the Viewer, and adjust the scale slider. You could then export that clip and use it as your drop zone. I say to use only a piece, because
    a) the longer the clip in your drop zone, the less space on the disc you'll have for your movie.
    b) putting your whole finished movie into the drop zone looks bad.

  • Is it possible to set frame size for a new project ?

    Hi all,
i would like to create a video in which there will be 2 videos playing the same content from a different angle.
    Each video is 512 x 384 .
So i would like to set the frame size of the project as 1024 x 768 in order both videos to exist.
I searched around for tutorials regarding this but i didn't find anything similar. It seems as if i cannot set the frame size of the project from the start.
So,is there a way to do this?
Thank you for your time reading this.
    Regards,
    nikits72.

Hi and thank you for your answers.
    @->shoternz
It will be displayed in my monitor and probably on you tube.Btw your remark on size was very accurate.Didn't think of that.
Although i could use a little bigger height to use it to display a logo or something....
I am very premiere newbie as you can understand.

  • Images too large for Drop zone in Template

Is there a way I can resize images I want to use after I drop it in a drop zone? For some reason, all my images are too large for the drop zones - even after making smaller in photoshop.
    Thanks!

I'm fairly new to DVD SP too and wondering the same thing.
Shouldn't we be able to edit the image mask?
It's kinda worthless to just accept what DVDSP decides to do with the photo.

  • Converting Frame Size for Final Cut

I have XDCAM HD .mov files that are 1440x1080, which I converted through Streamclip to 1920x1080.  And 2 problems arose:
    1)  the 1st time I imported them in the Project I had the right Frame Size : 1920x1080, but the wrong Pixel Aspect : HD (1440x1080) instead of Square.
    2)  the 2nd time I looked for an Option in Streamclip to select the Pixel Aspect, but there is none.   I imported the 1920x1080 files into the project, and they appeared as 1440x1080 files!!!
I also tried creating a sequence with the desired specs (Frame Size and Pixel Aspect) and said NO when asked to conform the Sequence to the Clip.  It worked but the RED Rendering will take forever.
Do you have a better solution?
Could the problem be my Version 6 Final Cut?  Or am I missing something?  I would be most grateful for any suggestion.

If you have iTunes 9 or higher, go to +iTunes > Preferences > General+. Under 'When inserting a CD' select any one of the three import options. Then click +Import Settings > Import Using > AIFF Encoder.+ In the same panel, click +Setting > Custom.+ Select +Sample Rate = 48Khz, Sample Size = 16 bit, Channels = Stereo.+ Then click +OK, OK, OK.+
Then in your Library, select the song you want to convert. Then do +Advanced > Create AIFF Version.+ iTunes will make a copy of the song & convert it to AIFF.

  • Resizing photos for drop zones

When I drop a photo into a drop zone in iDVD '08 it stays huge and only a small part of the photo can be seen. I have resized to 768x576 as the HELP suggested but it made no difference. No matter how small I made the photo, it got blown up to a large size. I know you can move the photo a little using the command button and the mouse, but unfortunately that doesn't help much when the image is so big.
Any ideas? I'm just about ready to pull the last couple of hairs out of my head! This has never been a problem in iDVD '06
    Many thanks

Changing the dpi won't help - iDVD and iMovie don't care about it. The theme displays the entire image from top to bottom (more or less), but since the window is portrait mode on a landscape image, you loose about 1/4 of the image on each side. There doesn't seem to be much you can do with it (other than not use it).
What I would do is create a 640 x480 image with a 120 pixel wide black band on either side and insert a 400 pixel wide by 480 pixel high image in the middle between the black bands. The theme should show you just about all of the image you have inserted when you place the 640x480 image in the drop zone window. I wish there were an easier way, but I've had to use such trial and error methods since I started working with iDVD back in iDVD 2 days.

  • Recommended Codec/Frame Size for Enhanced Audio CD

I've just been asked to render a music video compatible with Enhamced Audio CD format. basically it's an Audio CD with a portion set aside for data where the video will reside.
The file has to play in real time off of the CD.
Anyone know of some rock solid, widely available codecs/recommended frame size that will work?
The net seems devoid of good solid info on this.

Having done some digging, it seems an .M4v H.264 encoded and running at about 640x360 should do the trick. Some indication on the packaging needs to specify QT 7 or above either Mac or PC to view the video side of the disc.
This happily plays off a 8x CD drive.
SVCD is old technology, superceded by DVD. H.264 is the way forward!
    Thanks.

  • Adjust font size for notes?

is it possible to adjust the font size for the .txt file to be read in the 'notes' folder in 'my computer'. i have synced it to my ipod but becuase of is size and the way the info is portrayed the width is too narrow on ipod thus getting a 'spill' onto the next line. is there anyway to save it as it is in its original .txt file. thank you
    Alan

In the text note include some html code. html (hypertext markup language) is what is used to display this web page.
You can Google "html font size" to learn more about it.
    Create a text note.
The very first line of the text note should be
    <font size =-1>
This will make the font 1 size smaller (it's a minus 1). Make it a + (plus) sign to make it larger.
Add the rest of your note.
The last line of your text note should be
    </font>
    to return everything to normal.

  • Adjusting chunk size for virtual harddisks

My data partition with VHD images is constantly run out of space. So I decided to repartition the drive in the next days. While doing that, I will redo most or all images files to sparsify the data inside the guest. There is one issue:
To reduce the amount of space needed on the host I want to reduce the "allocation chunk size" for (dynamically expanding/ sparse) virtual harddisks. Its my understanding that if a guest is writing to a filesystem block the host does actually allocate
more than the "guest block size". For example, if a guest ext3 filesystem has blocksize 4K and it writes to block #123, the host will not just allocate space for this singe 4K block at offset #123. It may allocate a much larger chunk in case the
guest attempts also to write ti #124. And so on.
A few months ago I read somewhere that this "allocation chunk size" can be adjusted. Either when the VHD image is created, or globally for all images. It was done with some powershell cmd AFAIK.
For my purpose I want to reduce it to a minimum, even if it comes with some performance cost.
How can this property be adjusted?
    Thanks.
    Olaf

    Hi Olaf,
It seems that it is beyond my ability to explain this .
But I have read this article mentioned the effect between VHD and physical disk :
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2515143
If I understand correctly , the physical disk and virtual disk only have two type of "sector" size (512 and 4K , vhd only support 512 )As for the "allocation chunk size" that you mentioned , I think it determined by different file system
(such as NTFS and ext3 ).
Maybe the powershell cmd you mentioned is " set-vhd " , it has a parameter " physicalsectorsizetype " only with two value 512 and 4096 .
For details please refer to the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh848561.aspx
    Hope this hlepsBest Regards

  • Adjust Photo Size For Web Gallery

I'm uploading a new Web Gallery as I type this....(although nothing appears to be happening at the moment...I decided against my first couple of efforts and deleted those galleries).
I don't see a way to adjust the size of the photos uploaded to the Web Gallery. As each of the photos I'm uploading is approximately 3MB in size, I was hoping there might be an option to compress each of the photos prior to uploading. Am I missing it?
In iPhoto Help, there's a topic for "Choosing the Appropriate Size For Your Photo". Apparently, this only refers to emailed photos, though?
    Any thoughts on this?

    Mike:
Have you checked on the size of the files uploaded to the web gallery? They are resized to 800 x 600 pixels. If you select the option to have the full sized image downloaded then the max pixel dimension is 3054 pixels in any direction. If the are larger than than the get resized. Additionally the file is compressed. My 2.7 MB file was downsized to 750 KB.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
