Adjusting how long a still is displayed in iMovie 08

Good evening all,
I'm a complete newbie to iMovie, and I'm trying to create a movie for a forthcoming presentation. I've got a still of Winston Churchill that I want to display whilst one of his quotes plays. I've imported an image, and the audio from one of his quotes. The trouble is when I play the movie the audio only lasts for 5 seconds. How can I make the still run for the length of the audio.

I don't have a MacPro so don't know if additional internal drives are treated differently to Firewire/USB drives, but provided a USB2 or Firewire drive is formatted as a Mac OS Extended (journaled) partition, it appears in the Event library as a drive.
I would assume that appropriately formatted internal drives would behave similarly.
When you go to import video you are asked for a save location and can select the drive from there if you don't want to use the boot disc.
The main limitation is that the iMovie Events folder gets created in the top level/root folder of the drive - you can't specify where to put it.
It's obvious if you know (which I didn't) but from within iMovie you can drag and drop events from one iMovie Events folder to another. Basically, drag the Event onto the new location's disc icon - the advantage of doing this over a manual Finder darg and drop is that any Projects are updated with the change in Event location.
If you drag an Event onto another it gives you an option to merge, which is why you need to drop it onto the drive icon.

Ann this is What i Found; it's on the Bionic But i don't know if the Feature has been pulled on recent OS builds or i'm just Not Digging enough to Find this Setting or looking in the Right Place. It says in the Instruction go to Accounts but in the App Drawer on my Razr's and my Droid X it's not there But my Accounts is. How do I customize my personal email settings?
If you would like to change account name, how long email is kept on the handset, account passwords, or server/port/security settings, follow steps below:
Open Applications tray
Tap Accounts
Tap the email account your wish to edit
Select General settings to change account name, reply name or email address
Select Incoming / Outgoing server to adjust Server name, port #, username & password, and security settings
Select Other Settings to modify how long handset will keep messages.

How do you adjust how long the iphone rings for before going to voicemail? Mine diverts after only a couple of rings.

I believe you do that through your phone service provider. I wonder if you have unheard messages in your voice mailbox. I think some carriers use that mechanism - diversion to voicemail faster if the recipient has unheard messages.
I do not believe you can change this directly on your iPhone.

How to set still photo display length

How can I change the length that a still photos is displayed so I don't have to manually do this for each photo?

This is done in Edit>Preferences>General. IIRC, the still Duration is in Frames, not seconds, so take note of that. Do this, prior to Import. It will also set the Duration for Titles, but they are easy to adjust for Duration.

I've two iPod Nanos (4th gen - 8GB). I'm facing a severe problem with both of them. For both iPods, I tried to do this method Simultaneously press the top button + home (central) button. But of no use.
1. My first iPod is showing a white screen. I could not see anything. But I can listen to songs by blindly pressing the play button twice. The battery comes only for an hour.? How do I get the display and longer battery?
2. My second iPod is facing more severe problem. None of the buttons are working. When I connect it my PC it showing "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting". But it is not ejecting with all the usual methods. When I manually and physically disconnect it from the PC the same "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting" is still showing till the battery goes off. After that if i press any button it is showing low battery signal. And when i re-connect it to the PC the same process is repeating. When I tied to restore it to the factory settings I'm getting "Error" report.
(I'm using windows 7)

Sounds like some hardware issues, meaning you'll want to take or send the iPods in for service or repairs. You can choose to have Apple do an out of warranty exchange for the prices indicated in the link below or find another third party service perhaps even local to your area.

How do you adjust the brightness of a Thunderbolt Display attached to an iMac ?

I had this peculiar ‘issue’ hooking up to my MacBook Retina when my Thunderbolt Display was delivered but Applecare - thanks Andrew - got me there. It seems daft!
The Thunderbolt Display Brightness slider IS there – you just have to know how to make it show up.
At initial set-up of the Thunderbolt Display [or if the Brightness slider is ever not visible in the System Preferences> Thunderbolt Display window], so long as the Thunderbolt [external] Display and the Macbook Display are ‘mirrored’ I can control the Thunderbolt [external] Display via my MacBook Retina Brightness keys [F1 & F2] – or by the Brightness slider that THEN appears in my System Preferences>Thunderbolt Display window. Once set up the Thunderbolt Display System Preferences Window continues to show the Brightness slider but I occasionally lose it if my MacBook has been disconnected from the Thunderbolt Display for some time – and I then have to start over.
So:-
Apple menu >
System Preferences>
Displays>
Click Arrangement [at the top]
Click Mirror Displays [at the lower left]
That then gives me-at-least a Brightness slider on the System Preferences> Thunderbolt Display window [as well as on the Built In Retina Display window] and I can then adjust them independently.
Oddly, having set this up just once the Brightness slider then remains on my Thurnderbolt Display and I can control it [and my MacBook Retina Display independently]. Occasionally I lose it again and have to start over.
Hope this works for others.

Some folks can't leave well enough alone, and insist on downloading all sorts of additional "stuff" that ends up making their Mac unstable.
Standard Mac OS X on properly-operating Hardware does not crash, unless you start installing too many add-ons.
You can run "just the basics" by holding down the Shift key at Startup. This does one pass of Disk Repair, then loads a minimal set of extensions, and comes up in Safe Mode. If it works OK that way, but crashes in "regular", it's the add-ons.
There ia another layer of add-on junk that can be added to Safari. If the only remaining problem is Safari crashing, those add-ons can be disabled as well.

I do think you should ask yourself if upgrading to Lion is the right course to take.
Snow Leopard is an excellent OS and Lion has literally been frozen out after barely a year. Remember too that some of your apps may not work with Lion (those that have Rosetta, for example) so that could mean more new purchases. Plus you may need to uprate your RAM too.

I've brought my MacBook to the Apple Store and the technician confirmed that the display is defective and that it must be replaced. Although, I was told that he has no idea about when he'll receive it from Apple.
