Adjusting je cache size dynamically.

Hi,
I am using JE 4.1.17 and trying to adjust the cache size of the environments dynamically. EnvironmentMutableConfig provides a setCacheSize() method but does not seem to take effect for me.
For experimentation I execute the following snippet every 10 mins,
environment.getMutableConfig().setCacheSize(environment.getMutableConfig().getCacheSize()/2);
Am I missing something?

Hi,
You need to call setMutableConfig after calling setCacheSize on the config object.

  • ADO Recordset Cache Size Breaking SQL Reads

I've got a C++ application that uses ADO/ODBC to talk to various databases using SQL.
In an attempt to optimize performance, we modified the Cache Size parameter on the Recordset object from the default Cache Size of 1 to a slightly larger value. This has worked well for SQL Server and Access databases to increase the performance of our SQL reads.
However, talking to our Oracle 8i (8.1.6 version) database, adjusting the Cache Size causes lost records or lost fields.
We've tried the same operation using a VB application and get similar results, so it's not a C++ only problem.
For the VB app, changing the cursor-type from ForwardOnly to Dynamic does affect the problem, but neither work correctly. With a ForwardOnly cursor the string fields start coming back NULL after N+1 reads, where N is the Cache Size parameter. With a Dynamic cursor, whole records get dropped instead of just string fields: for example with a Cache Size of 5, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th records are not returned.
In our C++ application, the symptom is always lost string fields, regardless of these two cursor types.
I've tried updating the driver from 8.01.06.00 to the latest 8.01.66.00 (8.1.6.6) but this didn't help.
Is anybody familiar with this problem? know any workarounds?
    Thanks

  • Dynamic Calc processor cannot lock more than [100] ESM blocks during the calculation, please increase CalcLockBlock setting and then retry(a small data cache setting could also cause this problem, please check the data cache size setting).

    Hi,
Our Environment is Essbase 11.1.2.2 and working on Essbase EAS and Shared Services components. One of our user tried to run the Cal Script of one Application and faced this error.
Dynamic Calc processor cannot lock more than [100] ESM blocks during the calculation, please increase CalcLockBlock setting and then retry(a small data cache setting could also cause this problem, please check the data cache size setting).
I have done some Google and found that we need to add something in Essbase.cfg file like below.
1012704 Dynamic Calc processor cannot lock more than number ESM blocks during the calculation, please increase CalcLockBlock setting and then retry (a small data cache setting could also cause this problem, please check the data cache size setting).
    Possible Problems
Analytic Services could not lock enough blocks to perform the calculation.
    Possible Solutions
Increase the number of blocks that Analytic Services can allocate for a calculation:
Set the maximum number of blocks that Analytic Services can allocate to at least 500.
If you do not have an $ARBORPATH/bin/essbase.cfg file on the server computer, create one using a text editor.
In the essbase.cfg file on the server computer, set CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH to 500.
    Stop and restart Analytic Server.
Add the SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH command to the beginning of the calculation script.
Set the data cache large enough to hold all the blocks specified in the CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH setting.
    Determine the block size.
    Set the data catche size.
Actually in our Server Config file(essbase.cfg) we dont have below data  added.
    CalcLockBlockHigh 2000
    CalcLockBlockDefault 200
    CalcLockBlocklow 50
So my doubt is if we edit the Essbase.cfg file and add the above settings and restart the services will it work?  and if so why should we change the Server config file if the problem is with one application Cal Script. Please guide me how to proceed.
    Regards,
    Naveen

Your calculation needs to hold more blocks in memory than your current set up allows.
From the docs (quoting so I don't have to write it, not to be a smarta***:
CALCLOCKBLOCK specifies the number of blocks that can be fixed at each level of the SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH | DEFAULT | LOW calculation script command.
When a block is calculated, Essbase fixes (gets addressability to) the block along with the blocks containing its children. Essbase calculates the block and then releases it along with the blocks containing its children. By default, Essbase allows up to 100 blocks to be fixed concurrently when calculating a block. This is sufficient for most database calculations. However, you may want to set a number higher than 100 if you are consolidating very large numbers of children in a formula calculation. This ensures that Essbase can fix all the required blocks when calculating a data block and that performance will not be impaired.
    Example
If the essbase.cfg file contains the following settings:
    CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH 500  CALCLOCKBLOCKDEFAULT 200  CALCLOCKBLOCKLOW 50
then you can use the following SET LOCKBLOCK setting commands in a calculation script:
    SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH;
means that Essbase can fix up to 500 data blocks when calculating one block.
Support doc is saying to change your config file so those settings can be made available for any calc script to use.
On a side note, if this was working previously and now isn't then it is worth investigating if this is simply due to standard growth or a recent change that has made an unexpected significant impact.

  • Adjust the screen display dynamically for a given screen size and resolutio

    Hi All,
Is there a posibility to change the size of a table control dynamically to maximize the screen utilization keeping in mind , the different screen size and resolution. This is to increase the breadth of the table control that there is maximum utilization of screen and which would not produce any horizontal scroll bar in case of small size monitors.Kindly advice.
    Best Regards,
    Ashwini

There is no such control that you can put into the programming logic to enhance the visual appearance of the table controls or screens. This is taken care of by SAP GUI, which will adjust the display size of the table control according to the screen resolution.

  • Dynamically changing SCCM Cache Size

Has anyone come up with a 'clean' method to increase the SCCM Cache size as part of a large application deployment?
For example, we have a 8GB adobe application that is larger than our default client cache size - 5GB. We have made the switch to all SSDs, so preserving disk space is a necessity.
The option of increasing the cache on all clients is not appetizing. We attempted to make a dependance on another application that will increase the cache size, but the client will not run the dependency if the size of the first application is larger than
    the cache.
We COULD run the application as part of a task sequence, but this would mean our software portal users would need to know to shop for a task sequence rather than software for these few applications that exceed cache size.
Anyone come up with a better solution for this?

    Jorgen,
Many of our users are over remote WAN links, and we use 1e Nomad to alleviate network contention. Doing as you suggested would work, once - then my network administrators would kill me.
We have made the strategic decision to try and avoid the use of packages, but this may have to fall into the ugly 'exception' bucket. Unfortunately doing so would make it unavailable during OSD. (We are using a MDT BCD integrated task sequence.. there is
no good way to do 2 packages and then 2 application and then a package and then an application so we just cut the cord and said anything in OSD has to be an application used by the coalescedApplications variable)...
    But appreciate the thought.

  • Callable Statement Cache Size

    Hi all,
while using some dinamyc store procedures I get in the following error:
[BEA][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Value can not be converted to requested type.
    I'm using WL8.1 and Sql Server 2000.
Store procedure contains two different queries where table name is a store procedure's
    parameter.
The first time it works great, after that I always have this error:
    Reading bea doc's I found
There may be other issues related to caching prepared statements that are not
listed here. If you see errors in your system related to prepared statements,
you should set the prepared statement cache size to 0, which turns off prepared
statement caching, to test if the problem is caused by caching prepared statements.
If I set prepared statement cache size to 0 everything works great but that does
    not seem the better way.
Should we expect Bea to solve this problem?
    Or whatever else solution?
    such as using JDBCConnectionPoolMBean.setPreparedStatementCacheSize()
    dynamically ?

caching works well for DML and thats what it is supposed to do. But it looks
like you are doing DDL , which means your tables might be getting
created/dropped/altered which effectively invalidates the cache. So you
should try to turn the cache off.

  • Java 1.4.2 default cache size problems

    Hello all -
I am delivering panoramic image Virtual Travel® tours via Flash and the Java PTviewer applet, e.g. http://www.taj-mahal.net
We want to deliver much larger & "full screen" panoramas as well. This all works fine on PCs (sigh), but not on Macs.
On the Mac, I am seeing hanging" during loading of panos, and traced this to the fact that Windows typically has a 60 MB Java cache. I thought this was the same for Mac, but ....
I note that my Java 1.4.2 Plug-In Control Panel shows that only 50 MB is allocated. Since I have not adjusted this, I wonder...
    a) Is the default Java cache for Mac OSX set a 50 MB after installation? Would most typical Mac users then have only 50 MB of Java cache?
    b) Is there a user-friendly way to adjust the Java cache size up to 60 MB on the Mac? Some application or AppleScript or some such? If so, I can post an error message when (poor) Mac users try to view our large panoramas.
( I want to avoid trying to explain how to find and use the Java Plug-In control panel.... )
    Thanks for your help !

Where does that prerequisite come from?
On linux x86, Oracle provides the j2se jdk/jre for OracleAS itself, meaning OracleAS Forms & Reports services 9.0.4 does not require you to install a JDK. I think that actually the requirement is that you should not install any JDK. Of course, some other software might require you to install 1.4.2 java sdk.

  • How do I Change the Cache size?

I have an iBook G4 and am trying to change the cache size for this screen saver I downloaded.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi
Curious which screensaver you are referring to?
Screensavers can be processor intensive, requiring a certain level of computing power to avoid flicker or stuttering. The G4 iBook is not that type of machine.
Some Screen Savers have a preference file (accessed through the Desktop and Screen Saver System Pref Panel - highlight the saver, and select "options" if one is available) where you can adjust the operating speeds and other parameters. Otherwise, I don't believe there is anything more you can do.
I notice a big difference in certain screen savers running on my G5 iMac vs. my iBook, with the former handling the screen movement much more easily.

  • Statement cache size - application changes withouth restart

Hi, I would like to ask, how can I disable statement cache withouth restart.
If I set statement cache size to "0" and push button "Apply chanes", I got
message "No restart are necessary". Does it mean, that statement cache is
flushed? There is production environment and I would like to make sure
    about it.
    Thank you in advance.

Yes, setting the statement cache size is dynamic. A running server will close all cached
statements and do no more caching, as soon as you set the cache size to zero.

  • Ndsd preallocated cache size

I was looking into ndsd memory usage on my OES11 SP2 server and noticed that pre-allocated cache size is set in /var/opt/novell/eDirectory/data/dib/_ndsdb.ini:
    cache=209715200
This (200 MB) is apparently the default setting.
The total size of files in /var/opt/novell/eDirectory/data/dib on my server is only 70 MB.
In that situation, would it be reasonable to reduce the pre-allocated cache size?

The old documentation (from the NetWare days) which no longer applies
directly was to have 2-3 times your DIB size in DIB cache. Newer logic
(also covered by the new eDirectory 8.8 defaults and the
performance/tuning guide) says to ignore it since Linux is doing caching
on its own of data in the filesystem, so the amount there is just really
immediate needs and should be there, but ultimately the kernel is helping
    you a lot.
This past year I've had at least two customers report that their large
DIBs (many GB) were benefited substantially by having multi-GB DIB caches
even though they can see that the OS is doing caching as well, so
something happening in there seems to be pre-worked somehow to benefit
their type of eDirectory functionality in terms of measurable performance
    in searches.
Considering your current static amount is about 3x your DIB cache, and
since you are not reporting any issues with that, I'd leave it alone. If
you do want to adjust it, do so based on performance testing that matches
your environment's needs, specifically by making some adjustment, noting
performance-related stats, then doing it again, etc., until you can find a
    statistically-significant improvement at some level.
    Good luck.

  • How can I adjust the font size of my printouts?

I have an HP Officejet 4500 all-in-one printer and a new HP pavilion Slimline computer.  Since I changed to this computer, my printouts have very small font size making them hard to read.  How can I adjust the font size of the printout?  Is it a computer or printer function? I appreciate the help.

I, too, am frustrated.  This seems like something that would easily be handled within the application software.  However, none of the fixes I've been offered have been very helpful.  My cousin sugested using Control C and Control V to move the text to WORD.  Once in WORD, you can manipulate the text on a WORD page...sometimes.  I've had good and bad luck with this method.  It still requires working in two different programs to get it legible.  Does anyone else have a 4500  All-in -one with this problem, or is it only me?  Thanks,  [Edited for Personal Information]

  • How can I adjust the font size in iTunes 11?

How can I adjust the font size in iTunes 11?  Specifically, when in Artist view both the text in the sidebar and the track listing are huge.

How to change fontsize in iTunes
    Take an XML-Editor and open:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\de.lproj\TextStyles.plist"
For other languages change your country code (de, en, fr, pl ...).
    Example for english:  "\en.lproj\TextStyles.plist".
    Backup this File !!!
To change the Text-Size, change the integer value of the following item:
    "<key>size</key>"
    "<integer>8</integer>"
    This means Text-Size 8
    "<key>size</key>"
    "<integer>12</integer>"
    This means Text-Size 12
To change the font, change the integer value of the following item:
    <key>font</key>
    <string>Arial</string>
This means the font changes to Arial

  • In EJB3 entities, what is the equiv. of key-cache-size for PK generation?

We have an oracle sequence which we use to generate primary keys. This sequence is set to increment by 5.
    e.g.:
    create sequence pk_sequence increment by 5;
This is so weblogic doesn't need to query the sequence on every entity bean creation, it only needs to query the sequence every 5 times.
With CMP2 entity beans and automatic key generation, this was configured simply by having the following in weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml:
    <automatic-key-generation>
    <generator-type>Sequence</generator-type>
    <generator-name>pk_sequence</generator-name>
    <key-cache-size>5</key-cache-size>
    </automatic-key-generation>
This works great, the IDs created are 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, etc and weblogic only needs to hit the sequence 1/5 times.
However, we have been trying to find the equivalent with the EJB3-style JPA entities:
    We've tried
    @SequenceGenerator(name = "SW_ENTITY_SEQUENCE", sequenceName = "native(Sequence=pk_sequence, Increment=5, Allocate=5)")
    @SequenceGenerator(name = "SW_ENTITY_SEQUENCE", sequenceName = "pk_sequence", allocationSize = 5)
But with both configurations, the autogenerated IDs are 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc - weblogic seems to be getting a new value from the sequence every time.
    Am i missing anything?
    We are using weblogic 10.3

  • Java.sql.SQLException: Statement cache size has not been set

    All,
I am trying to create a light weight SQL Layer. It uses JDBC to connect to the database via weblogic. When my application tries to connect to the database using JDBC alone (outside of weblogic) everything works fine. But when the application tries to go via weblogic I am able to run the Statement objects successfully but when I try to run PreparedStatements I get the following error:
java.sql.SQLException: Statement cache size has not been set
    at weblogic.rjvm.BasicOutboundRequest.sendReceive(BasicOutboundRequest.java:108)
    at weblogic.rmi.internal.BasicRemoteRef.invoke(BasicRemoteRef.java:138)
    at weblogic.jdbc.rmi.internal.ConnectionImpl_weblogic_jdbc_wrapper_PoolConnection_oracle_jdbc_driver_OracleConnection_812_WLStub.prepareStatement(Unknown Source)
i have checked the StatementCacheSize and it is 10. Is there any other setting that needs to be implemented for this to work? Has anybody seen this error before? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

in the config.xml file. I'll bet you're defining the pool in an unusual way. Typically
we don't want any driver-level pooling to be involved. It is superfluous to the functionality
we provide, and can also conflict.
