Adjusting mouse resolution

I'm using a Logitech MX700 Cordless USB mouse with my Mac Mini and one thing that disturbs me a bit is the movement of the mouse pointer. I have been using Windows for a long time and the mouse movement is much smoother and have a better "feel" than on Tiger (10.4.3). The mouse resolution seems quite low in OSX and I've found that it is is related to the speed setting in Preferences. When I lower the speed the movement is slower but the resolution is higher. With higher speeds I keep missing the target, buttons etc and the mouse is a bit on the twitchy side. Note that I also have installed the Logitech Control Center, but it doesn't affect the mouse speed or movement, just the button assignments. I initially thought that the Logitech CC would solve the resolution problem, unfortunately it didn't. The mouse is connected directly to the Mini and not via a KVM, I have also tried different surfaces but since this is an optical mouse, no difference is seen.
I have tried ZoomMouse, USB Overdrive and read just about every thread that can be found on Google about this situation.
Is there a way to increase the resolution of the mouse in OSX to get the mouse to "feel" like the Windows counterpart and still keep the speed up? A software fix or do I need to use a different mouse even? Is Apple aware of this and if so, is there anything done about it?
Also, when adjusting the mouse in Preferences and lowering the movement speed, the next time OSX is restarted the mouse is back to the high-speed low-res mode. I have to go back to Preferences and click the slider and the change will take effect, any way around that?
Thanks!

i totally agree with the thread starter. The acceleration curve in OS X is terrible. It has been like this since 10.0. It seems when you move the mouse gently with precision to select a widget the cursor slows right down to an unbearable pace. This also happens with the scroll wheel. If i move the scroll wheel 1 click the page scrolls by 1 line, however if i move the wheel more clicks rapidly each click appears to scroll a page about 5 lines. This is the case even at the fastest settings.
I tested this behavior in Windows XP, altho i loathe Windows probably more than any other man, i must admit the mouse and scrolling in that OS is far nicer to use than in OS X. The cursor movement appears to be linear in movement at ANY speed setting. This applies also to the scroll wheel.
In 10.0 or 10.1 this acceleration we are experiencing was far worse. In fact there was a 3rd party kernel extension haxor which removed this acceleration and provided a far nicer cursor control. I really can't remember what this was, i wish i could find it again. I have used my powerbooks with out a mouse for so long ive not noticed the mouse, however i recently bought a new mouse and this is starting to irritate me. I have an XP machine right next to me, i much prefer mousing about on that.
If i find a solution ill report back.

I've just bought a Macbook Pro 15" and I'm trying to use Photoshop, but the resolution its displaying the images at for 100% are too small. I have to design for the web, so need to be intricate with detail, but I'm finding it adjusts the resolution of the image right down. (I mean you can see the image clearly, but it's too small to edit). When I look at Safari and see a web page at 100% it's clear, but the same page displayed in Photoshop CC appears 50% of the size (even though it says it's 100%)   If I move the application window to another screen it adjusts it correctly  – leaving all the pallettes, menus and tools correctly sized as they are on the retina display   Is there some way to adjust the way Photoshop CC displays images so it is more consistent with what you actually see?   There doesn't seem to be any answer on the Adobe forum, so hopefully someone here can shed some light.  MacBook Pro with Retina display, 15", OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Photoshop CC 2014

I tested both ways. With "open in low resolution" ckecked the size of the images is cool, but it is low-resolution including Photoshop appearance.
If "open in low resolution" is unckecked the appearance is good but the very small size.
See the image below. It has 650 x 732 px, 72 dpi. The font of the text "Neste aniversário ..." is with 18pt.

  • How do I adjust display resolution for Mac Mini?

How do I adjust display resolution for Mac Mini? Text does not look crisp.  Using Samsung 27 inch monitor with HDMI input

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays. Depending on your version of Mac OS X, it may be set for "Best for Display" in which case it should already be set at the optimum for your monitor, or it may display resolution options in which case you should set it for the native resolution of your display.

  • Adjusting the resolution on IPad Mini

I purchased the lightning connector to HDMI adaptor and when I plug my mini into a monitor I cannot get the image to fill the screen.  Is there a way to adjust the resolution on the Mini?

I was working on this problem yesterday. Unfortunately there is no way to change the resolution of the image from the iPad. But some Monitors will allow you to zoom the image. Check your monitor controls to see if this is supported. My LG HDTV will not let me fill the screen, however.

  • Have a bit of a problem. I'm trying to adjust the resolution on a 2013 27" iMac. Brand new, bought on April 6 2013 from Apple. My friend is 84 years old so, I'm trying to help him adjust the screen so he can see the screen. Any direction would be great.

OK. Have a 84 year old that has a hard time seeing the screen. I've been able to adjust Safari's resolution to accomadate him however, I would like to adjust the screen resolution. When I open preference's / displays, it doesn't have an option to adjust. Is there a way? Maybe thourgh terminal? The computer is the new 27" iMac purchased on April 6, 2013 from Apple. Yes, it is the newest iMac without the disk (DVD) drive. It's running Mountian Lion.
Anyone have some direction on how to solve this enigma???
    bish

The purchase date isn't the important info here.  The actual model of the iMac is and this info is in the model identifier.  For example, I have a late-2012 iMac, model identifier is iMac 13,2.  I will add that there is no 2013 model available.  The most recent at this time is the late-2012 model which I have.
On my display if I select Apple->System Preferences->Displays then press the button "Display" I am presented with a screen which shows Resolution and Scaled as button options.  "Best for built-in display" is the default, however, clicking on "Scaled" brings up the various resolutions that can be used with the display:
From this I can select a display with larger items, but keep in mind that while a larger image can be selected (using a smaller width x height value) it will not be as crisp and sharp as the default.

  • Wireless mighty mouse resolution (in DPI)

    hi,
anybody has an idea of what is the resolution of the mighty mouse? i have the wired one, i believe it was just 800 dpi... i'm wondering if the new one is any better... i'm quite used to gaming mice (razer & logitech) whch goes up to 1600 dpi, so i really find the 800 dpi very slow...
    thanks,
    zurc

I agree it feels slow! Even in the in "max" position.
Compared to my old apple wireless mouse it is much slower. I dont know how many dpi sorry.
And the speed is a real downer!

  • How to adjust mouse or trackpad parameters for the user selection screen?

This is not critical, but annoying.  I can change the mouse or trackpad parameters by user, so anyone can use their own mouse or trackpad adjustment.  However I can not locate how to change this parameters for the welcome or user selection screen.  In my case I have two users, both of us use the trackpad with the one touch for click function, so no one press physically the trackpad for a click.  However, as the default parameter is the touch function deactivated we have to actually click the trackpad in that exclusive screen.
Another example with mouse, normally we use the mouse with almost double of the default acceleration, but when in the user selection screen the mouse assumes default configuration and feels super SLOWWWWWWW.
Again, this is not critical, but would be very nice to be able to modify this parameters in the welcome screen.

For the login screen, you are not associated with a normal user, but the system defaults...try logging in to the Admn account and change the behavior there...those settings should then apply to the login screen.

  • Can't adjust framebuffer resolution [SOLVED]

Ever since the last kernel update, I am unable to adjust the framebuffer. I had it set to 1024x768 in the menu.lst file but ever since the update it can only use the default resolution. I've tried both 1024x768 and 1280x1024 resolutions with no luck. At boot up I receive the error message "Undefined video mode number: <number of resolution>. Is there a configuration needed in the mkinitcpio.conf file or is there another way to resolve this?
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 7900 GT
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I am also having this problem, since I updated packages this morning. I have tried changing the resolutions in the menu.lst file, which didn't work. To kill the error message, I removed the vga= entry from the menu.lst file, which results in a much uglier boot sequence, but at the same time, stops you needing to push space to boot. Not an ideal solution - I know. I am also running splashy from AUR, which refuses to run.
I have also noticed, since upgrading, that my filesystem checks at boot are much slower too.
Perhaps I will try compiling a kernel to see if I can fix the problem, if nobody can find a solution. Perhaps this is a bug?

  • How to adjust mouse event with scaled DesktopPane

    Hi
I am manjunatha, i am developing Data warehouse product, in this, i am showing inter-related Transforms in desktop pane, i given option to view the content of desktop pane with different scaled factor (ex 100%,50%,25%), when i will scale the content of desktop pane using Graphics class, only content will be scaled, but the events on the Internal frames will be referring 100% view only,(ie mouse event will not effected by scaled factor, so it will be point to 100% view points only, ex at first an Internal Frame will have bounds(10,10,200,200), after i will scale this to 10%, it will be drawn with (1,1,20,20) on the desktop pane, but internally its bounds will be (10,10,200,200) and mouse event will detect Internal Frame at (10,10,200,200) location , instead of scaled (1,1,20,20) location.
My question is how can i scale the Internal Frames and adjust relevant events to it?
(You can see screen shot of this page with (Mapplet View as screen name)

Did you ever find a solution to this? How did you scale all the components on resize?

  • Magic Mouse Resolution - CAD

    Hi,
I currently use a wired mighty mouse for CAD (on OSX - not Bootcamp, etc..). I originally purchased a wireless mighty mouse, but had to take it back, as the resolution of the mouse wasn't high enough for the CAD detailing (I believe this is a similar issue for gamers).
I can't seem to find out what the resolution of the new Magic Mouse is. Does anyone know, as my Mighty Mouse trackball has seen better days (I've tried all of the cleaning techniques)?
    Thanks

I am interested in this as well. I am a graphic designer and do a lot of photoshop work and need a high resolution mouse. I am currently using the Razer Pro and hope that this mouse would equal that one in resolution. Where can we find this out?

Playing OMPG and the program allows for setting the screen resolution and will not save the set display resolution.  After contacting their support they inform me that the resolution will default to the resolution displayed by FlashPlayer.
How do you change the display settings in FlashPlayer?  I do not see anything that will even lead me to FlashPlayer let alone fine=d anything that allows for changing the settings.  The choice of resolution will not even match the settings of my computer.
    Your assistance is appreciated.

    Hi,
Can someone please tell me if quicktime pro enables users to change the resolution of video, so that video will fit the resolution of mobile phones e.g. 320x240, 220x176 etc.
