Adjusting space around "textwrap' after opening PM7 file in InDesign

Love PageMaker as it suits my basic needs, but printer needs Indesign file. In PageMaker 7, I have numerous photos with captions (67). The photo and caption have been textwrapped together. When I open the file in InDesign 4, both the caption and photo have "frames," but there is a solid red frame around both of them (what would be close to the textwrap size in PageMaker 7). This solid red frame is larger than the original textwrap frame in PM7 and therefore throwing out of line the rest of the material (non-textwrapped) in my file. I don't know how to make this solid red frame smaller. This is the only problem I have when I open my file in InDesign. Unfortunately nothing I am reading seems to point me in the right direction. I would so greatly appreciate any help. Will send box of candy!! Thanks. Elkie2

Mike (and Bob and Peter),
"first post says this is a red frame, post #3 says red line. They are adjusted differently and easily. Strokes on frames need adjusted separately from the frame size."
Didn't mean to say "red line" (strokes). If I can't explain the problem correctly, what hope is there for me. One more try. There is one red frame with handles which surrounds the photo with its caption. The handles would allow me to change the frame size which I don't want to do, as I don't want to change the size of the photo. There is another red frame without handles around this frame. This frame, without the handles, is the one that has too much space around it (top, bottom and sides). Since it has no handles, there is no way to adjust its size. Hope this might make more sense, if someone still wants to try to respond.
(Will look a pdf issues also - thanks for words on it).

  • Unsupported Image Format after opening a file in Photoshop.

As from today,I am getting an unsupported Image Format after opening a file in Photoshop. I have made nothing more than as crop on the image. Why?

Ernie, I misread your post indeed. I never saw a option to send RAW files to an external editor. All I can see is the option to chose what editor and then specify if PSD or TIFF is used. I always use PSD, usually 16bit and in one other installation in 8bit (due to RAM restrictions there).
So Aperture creates the PSD version and PS edits that very version and saves it back into aperture. This is where I sometimes () get that "unsupported image" problem.
I think this also is what Mike does: select a RAW master, use an external editor -> Aperture creates a PSD or TIFF. I haven't tried the TIFF option , though.
My main point was: it all worked for a very long time and with the latest updates it is broken.
    have a good day.

  • Can I open .pmd files in indesign? And how? Since indesign is a "substitute" for PageMaker it should/must be possible, but I don't know how to do it

Can I open .pmd files in indesign? And how? Since indesign is a "substitute" for PageMaker it should/must be possible, but I don't know how to do it

CS6 was the last version capable of opening Pagemaker files. It's included with Cloud subscriptions, so if you don't have it installed (or an earlier version) you can download it from your cloud subscription.
To open them you use File > Open..., but the quality of conversion can range between nearly perfect and total garbage, depending on the PM file and the status of links (unembed images before trying to convert).

We all can learn from this. Whenever you get stuck in a customer-service situation that goes nowhere, as soon as you become aware of the futility, get the name and employee ID of the person, then say, "I don't mean to be rude, I think we're both wasting our time. Perhaps you weren't trained for this issue, or perhaps your system isn't displaying the correct information. It doesn't matter, because I'm not getting proper customer support this way. Please ESCALATE this to your highest-level manager IMMEDIATELY. If that person isn't availabe, ESCALATE me to that person's highest-level manager. If you haven't been given the proper training, you can use this to inform your manager that you need the training. Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it. I have copied and saved this chat session. NOW PLEASE ESCALATE THIS CASE AS I HAVE REQUESTED ABOVE. I'm waiting now... "
The point is that you're a customer, and the company needs customers, so the individual who's failing to deliver good service needs to be identified so they can be properly trained, and so that problems in the system can also be identified, but more important is that you get the service you're entitled to.
If you search the forum for similar questions, you'll see the kind of information that the volunteer users like yourself on the forum need to know about your system and files involved, so they can help you better.
    Good luck.

  • New problem opening Pagemaker files with InDesign

I have quite a lot of archive files made in Pagemaker 6 and 7 and now use InDesign CS2. Until recently I could open pagemaker files from InDesign then save them as InDesign files and away I went.
But now I am just getting an error message saying the document is damaged and cannot be recovered. First off I thought it really was a damaged document but then realised all my old .pmds were saying the same.
Is there a known issue maybe with a recent upgrade of InDesign or something?
I would really love to be able to access my old pmds!!
    Thanks in anticipation.

Yes Joel you're right - XP and recently installed SP3.
Just pondering the best way forward.
I'm responsible for the IT for a small charity with 8 staff members.
I have Master Suite CS3 and use a variety of the programmes but the other staff members are only using InDesign and MS Office.
We're not a high end design set up but producing all the sort of leaflets, posters bits and pieces that we need day to day.
Decided to upgrade to Office 2010 and to do that I had to install SP3.
Stuck with ID2 for everyone else (and went to great lengths to buy some extra licenses to do so) because opening an ID2 file with ID3 creates a new file which is a big nuisance and it's expensive to upgrade across the board (even with charities having access to educational licensing concessions).
Fact of life is we do tend to have quite long-lived files and I will go on wanting to open pagemaker ones for some time to come.
I probably only want to convert a pmd once a month I guess - it's just suddenly a huge nuisance not to be able to do those few ...
I can't roll back to SP2 because of Office 2010.
I could re-set one workstation wtih XP2, Office XP and InDesign CS2 purely to be able to convert pmds. Again, nuisance and ties up a licence on a little-used machine.
I could bite the bullet and move everyone over to InDesign CS3 - will I definitely be able to open pmds from there?
Ah, just thought - I have an ID3 licence but not loaded on my computer. If I load that and use it just for opening pmds then export them for backwards compatibility with ID2 like this http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/5.0/help.html?content=WSa285fff53dea4f86173837510 01ea8cb3f-6d4d.html will I then be a happy bunny?
Would be glad of expert comment before I start faffing about!
    Thanks

  • Opening .eps file in InDesign CC

How do I open a .eps file in InDesign CC.  When I try there is an error message saying that the file cannot be opened "Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing , or the file may be open in another application".

You do not open EPS files in Indesign, you place them. They can be opened in Illustrator.

  • InDesign CS6 Crashes shortly after opening a file

    Hi there,
I've searched the web for an answer to this but have had no luck. I recently opened a file that was working fine but suddenly would not open. I was opening the INDD file in CS5 and decided to try CS6 to see if it would work.
    Here is my process.
    I open the file
Approx 7 seconds after the file opens I get the message, "Adobe InDesign CS6 has stopped working"
I am certain that it is a image link issue or a font issue but it does not prompt to replace the font or find the images.
    Any suggestions?

Is there anything in Event viewer that might provide a clue? Are you using the same font manager/font server on all systems that you tried to open the file?  Any possibility of trying to open on a Mac, where we might be able to get a real crash report? (I'm on Windows as well.) :(  Try setting the prefs to not check links on open and see if that makes a difference, and uninstall any font activation plugin if you have one. I don't use a font' manager here -- never found one I thought was any good that I could make work with my system (Font Agent Pro was a candidate, but didn't like my user profiles being on drive D:).

  • Can Illustrator CS4 open Illustrator CS6 files? or other work around way to open CS6 files?

Can Illustrator CS4 open files created in CS6? or can CS6 files be converted to be opened in CS4? like CS6 InDesign can be saved in IDML files to be opened in previous versions. Or if there is any other work around ways, like save CS6 files in PDFs/eps/... so the files can be opened in CS4 and work from there. Thank you.

    Open in CS6 , file >> Save As >> Version >> CS4.

  • Time Machine backing up huge files after opening wmv file in QuickTime

    Good evening to everyone;
I have noticed that after I open wmv file (or any file that needs conversion) in QuickTime; the next TM back up backs up 10+ GB to my Time Capsule. Can anyone pls explain to me where can I find this big file so I can exclude it from the back ups?
And maybe why are they even created?
Not sure if it is relevant but I also have Perian 1.1 and Flip4mac latest version installed, which lets me open all kinds of files in QuickTime.
    Thanx a ton

Might be that the Quicktime cache is hiding the data. In the Users>Libraray>Caches>Quicktime>Downloads, you'll probably see a pile of items. I've never gotten rid of all of them, but you can give it a try. Post back if you find anything interesting out.

  • Evince 3.14.1-2 crashes shortly after opening pdf files

    Hi,
my evince 3.14.1-2 (up to date version from stable repo) crashes if I try to open pdf files without any error message.
The only way to get some error output is stating it from a terminal:
(evince:2655): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: The property GtkSettings:gtk-menu-images is deprecated and shouldn't be used anymore. It will be removed in a future version.
    Speicherzugriffsfehler (Speicherabzug geschrieben)
The last line (german) means: segmentation fault (core dumped)
Sometimes it doesn't crash immediately after opening a pdf file, but as soon as I try to scroll down/up it crashes.
I haven't found any bug in the bugtracker that could be related.

My evince 3.14.1-2 from the official repos also started crashing today. To reproduce (works every time), open the Linux Voice issue 9 PDF version and click Ctrl-f to search. After about a second the application segfaults. Issue 4 of the same magazine works just fine. Nothing is different in the terminal output of Evince when opening the two documents except for the "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" message.
I have not had problems with Evince crashing before.

  • Why isn't Hard Disk space becoming available after I delete files?

My wife filled up her MacBook's hard disk to the point where she only had 300 or so MB of storage space left. I transferred about 32GB of movies and photos onto an external disk and deleted the files off of the MacBook. Those files are no longer on the MacBook and they are on the hard disk. However, there is only about 14GB of free space on her MacBook now. What happened to the other 18GB of space that should have become free? Is there something else I need to do to free up this space? I made sure to empty the trash after moving the files into the trash.
    Computer information:
OS: OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion
Processor: 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 8GB 1067MHz DDR3
    Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9400M 256MB
    Model: MacBook, 13-inch, Late 2009
    Model Identifier: MacBook6,1
Hard Drive: Toshiba MK2555GSXF with 250.06GB Capacity

You might try OmniDiskSweeper to get a better idea about what's eating up the space. I wold also reset the pram

  • Adobe CS6 crashes after opening a file authored in CC but saved in CS6 format

I generally create my project assignments for school on the Mac side of my computer (10.9) using Adobe CC 17.1 (latest version).  However, if I am not done, and need to do my normal job, I just bootcamp over to Windows 7, and use CC there to finish the job.
I then save the AI file in CS6 format via CC, and submit it to my instructor.  However, in both instances (both projects I submitted tha were converted to CS6), they wouldn't open on my instructors  Mac CS6 client.  No error showed up, nothing froze, Adobe CS6 just showed the splash screen, then closed.  Nothing else.  She was able to view them in another reader, but of course, that causes issues.
Normally the workflow is like this:
My Mac (10.9):  Open CC Illustrator, and design the work.
My Windows 7 (Bootcamp):  Open saved CC AI file and continue work.
------(same system):  Save CC AI file as CS6 (on windows or mac, either one has producted this result)
    Submit to instructor.
Instructor opens on CS6 on her Mac, and it just will not open.
I am wondering if perhaps there is a conversion issue between CC on Mac side, and opening it on CC windows side, and then saving it.
I may have more information, assuming my instructor provides some more details about her mac, etc.  But, right now, that's all I have.

  • Text reflow after opening IDCS2 file in CS3?

Has anyone experienced text reflow when opening a legacy InDesign CS2 file in CS3? This is a serious problem if it happens in book documents. I want to make a case (or not) for keeping the old version on our computers for opening legacy files.

It's not unheard of. Even if the text looks perfectly normal at first sight, the tiniest editing will cause a recompose.
On the two upgrades I had so far, I made a point of never to open and edit documents into the newer version if the client already had seen a previous one.
