Adjusting speed in iMovie 10.0

I have been importing my Gopro 3 video directly into Imovie 9 without problems, once I optimized the video (which I did as part of the importing process) I could adjust the speed of the film, usually for slow motion shots, etc. Now that I have upgraded to Imovie 10.0 I cannot change the speed of the video at all; the speed editor function is greyed out as are all the choices for slow motion, instant replays, etc. What changed? Did Imovie 10.0 cut out the "optimization" step? If so how do I "prepare" my raw Gopro footage so that I can add in slow motion etc.? I really don't want to have to import the video, then run it through some other program and then import it again into Imovie, particularly when the previous version of Imovie was able to handle the process seamlessly.

I have been trying to figure this out since yesterday. I could not find this in the help documentation either and for a moment I thought there was somthing wrong with my video format from the gopro.
I will hope this is just a bug and not a design choice or technical limitation.

You used the data. Verizon can not see what it was sued for. However your phone can see whats apps used the data. go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle. line the dates up with your cycle. then there will be a bar graph below that extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right. after those are extended below that will be a list of apps, there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

How does hard drive speed impact iMovie performance

I'm thinking of getting one of the newly released 15" MacBook pro laptops. For hard drive choices I can get 750GB @ 5400 RPM or 500GB @ 7200 RPM (SSD Drives are too expensive for me). How does hard drive speed impact iMovie performance?

Most of my videos are .mov. Currently I'm using a ContourGPS and it saves the files as .mov H264 and iMovie converts it. It think it's uncompressing the file using Apple Intermediate codec, the extension is still .mov after the iMovie conversion.

Picture noise when adjusting speed?

Hello all.
When I change the speed of any clip either slowing it down or speeding it up it results what can only be described in bars of noise on the screen. My question is what would be causing this? Could it be how the video was captured, something to do with how it's processed or the T.V. screen that it is finally outputted to? I have tried various things to correct this and it is now getting tedious and to the point where I won't adjust speed at all.
All help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been recording most stuff with my Sony MiniDV camcorder but noticed that it does exactly the same when taking footage from other sources including built in isight on imac.
I render everything as I go if thats what you mean.
I have not tried and do not know how to do frame blending, will have a look tonight.

120mm Quiet Fan or Adjustable Speed

Hey guys,
i need some help here. I currently have a 120x120 fan for my case. It works really well like an exhaust fan, but the problem is that i think that it is a little noisy. As you can see in my signature i have a Silent Boost CPU cooler and the fan from my old Volcano 9, i am using it as an intake fan for the case, and my PSU is also a Silent Power PSU. So my PC should be running very quietly, but is not.
I am really considering that the problem is my current 120mm fan. And i was wondering if there is any 120mm fan that is REALLY quiet or that has adjustable speed, who knows.
If there is one out-there, plz let me know. Post the model or name of it, and the brand. So i can check if my PC hardware store has it.

Yep any fan ive got the hardcano 10 i think it is and ive got a 92mm a 120mm and 4 80mm fans connected to it It also has a Digital Thermometer It has both connectors the small 3 pin and the big 4 pin connections take your pick

Capturing video at 3/4 speed in imovie HD. Can you adjust capture speed?

I shot footage using the JVC HD100 at 24p. Even though FCP now handles it, it keeps aboring the capture. I tried using imovie HD, but it keep capturing at 3/4 speed. The audio plays normal, but the video is sped up. Is there a way I can change the setting in imovie HD to capture at a normal speed. My work around was to conform the video back to 23.98 in cinema tools, but this is too tedious for an entire movie. Can someone help? Is this a glitch in imovie?

iM is a consumer product, 24p is way out of its specs...
iMovie is a consumer video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV/D8 camcorders
so, 25/30fps, and HD via firewire, because HD content gets converted "on the fly" into Apple Intermediate Codec...

Video files seem to become corrupted when I adjust speed

I have started editing a new project, and am experiencing a familiar problem that I have encountered in the past, but which was never really resolved. I'm not very technical, so apologies if my description of the problem is simplstic.
The problem is that after making certain edits in the Project window, I find that the entire project has some how become corrupted: i.e. every single clip becomes impossible to edit - I can't spool through the clips and view them in the screen by dragging my mouse cursor over them, and I can't even delete the clip whose edit seemed to result in the corruption.
If I leave the project to go back to the project library, it is now impossible to re-enter the project. The words "edit project" in the button at the top left become grey. I find that the most common cause for this problem is whenever I attempt to adjust the speed of a clip, or reverse it. Is this a common problem with a simple solution?
I have come up with a makeshift solution, which is far from satisfactory, but does sometimes help: I remove the file in the iMovie Events folder in Finder that contains the clips that I can no longer edit, and open up iMovie. The event library in iMovie will now be empty; I replace the events files back into the iMovie Events folder in Finder, then import a random clip into iMovie. The random clip is imported into a seprate event of its own, and the original file that I had put back into iMovie Events reappears simultaneously. Sometimes when I do this, the clips in the Project library are editable again, but not always.
However, I would far rather that the programme simply processed my edits without corrupting the project. Is anyone familliar with this problem, and does anyone have a solution. Thank you very much in advance.

There are several likely sources of corruption, and video card would be far down on my list of possible suspects.
The transfer from camera card to hard disk is the most likely place for problem, either the card reader or USB cable can go bad. Another likely source of problems is the computer's hard disk is starting to fail. The camera card itself may be bad. And lastly, the memory in the computer may be malfunctioning.

I have been struggling with imovie for months, since it was "improved." Today, I spent a few hours trying to adjust file times. No success. The turtle icon was grayed out, so that could not be used. I went to the Modify menu and the Reset Speed as suggested in imovie help. The first time I tried, there was an adjustment for clip length but no button to click to make the change final. Then imovie crashed. When I got it back up and tried to recreate what I had done earlier, the Reset Speed command simply would not work. I clicked on it several times, but no dialog window would come up. After a few hours of this foolishness, I switched on my laptop, which has an older version of imovie. Within 15 minutes, I had completed my project. So the answer? New and improved isn't all it's cracked up to be. Find an older version of imovie.

"Adjust" button on iMovie 10.0.7

When using iMovie 10.0.7, I do not have the "Adjust" button for doing picture-in-picture. How can I turn that feature on?

So, in your workflow, step #2 is missing ?
#1: place 2nd clip 'upon' your project
#2:click 'Video overlay settings'
#3: select 'Picture in Picture' ....
… just one PiP per clip is allowed…

Adjusting QuickTime in iMovie 10.0

I just got a new MACBook Pro and I made a movie using iMovie. I did the normal share to itunes and then tried to upload from Youube...everytime I get this error:

I enter help center and it advise me to do the following:
In iMovie, select Share > Export Using QuickTime
I have searched for this option and I can't find can someone advise me?

Yes I know that option will most likely work the problem is I have multiple YouTube channels and this video is for a subsidiary channel under the same email so I have to do a manual upload from YouTube and the movie has to already be ready to share.

Aperture slider adjustment speed differs by darkness in photo?

Hi all,
I keep being surprised at the speed of adjustments within Aperture. With 1.5.2, I am mostly happy with the speed of adjustments on my aging Powerbook. However, sometimes the sliders move really sluggishly, as I am sure most of you have noticed.
On a hunch, I tried adjusting the levels for a very dark photo (dark subject), and then for a rather light photo (light subject). My preliminary and subjective impression is that adjusting the levels of a dark photo is a lot slower than adjusting those of a light photo, all else being equal (no crop, no rotation, nothing else). I presume that this behaviour will extend to other adjustments as well.
Does anyone else notice this odd correlation?

i've notice a difference between an old G5 PPC 2.5GHz 6GB RAM Nvidia6800 (sliders lag a tiny bit in full screen on a 30" monitor) and a MBP 17" 2.33GHz 3GB RAM 7200rpm hd, the MBP is much smoother with no lag at all on any adjustments so needless to say i'm using the MBP exclusively for Aperture.

When I created a motion keyframe path, the clip just zips of the screen and I cannot figure out how to adjust the speed.

speed = distance x time +hey, that's 5th grade physics!+
example:
you have keyframe#1 on the very left of viewer
keyframe#2 on very right of viewer...
if #2 is set just 4 frames later than #1 => speedy!
if #2 is set 120 frames later than #1 => a gentle, smooth move..
check, where _in timeline_ your KFs are set..

Adjusting speed of clips

Just a quick question,
If I adjust the decrease the speed of a clip on a timeline, it pushes all the footage after it forward.
This is a bit of a pain when editing to music as it knocks everything out of sync.
The method I use is to copy the clip to another timeline, adjust the speed then bring the clip back into the sequence.
I was wondering if anybody knew a quicker way to do this on the one timeline?

That's good... or do the speed change in the viewer and then use the replace edit - F11 to drop it on the same space as the original clip.
Or -- just do it at the END of the sequence.
Either way it can sometimes be a pain. If I'm trying to do these after I've already edited, I like the viewer technique.

How to adjust speed of Flash animation within Adobe Captivate

I have three Flash animations that were bought from istockphoto.com. The animations were imported into the project within Captivate. When the individual slides are playing in the project, the speed and timing is perfect. When the project is then to be published to preview the entire project as a whole, all of the animations speed up and are playing continuously throughout the desired slide. I don't know how to slow down the animation and have it play only one time through. What are the properties that I need to adjust in order to slow down the animation?

This is a possibility, not sure: the framerate for Captivate is normally 30fps whereas the default framerate in Flash is 25fps. You can try to change the fps in the Captivate project, in the Preferences (see screenshot)
