Adjusting still image duration length in iMovie 5.0.2

Hi is it possible to adjust still image duration in 5.0.2 by dragging from the end of the image 'clip'? I am sure I could do in iMovie4 and I can do it in iMovie HD 6 but a version of 5 that is on a project laptop just refuses to do it. Is this a version issue?
Thanks

Hi Karl,
YES! Thank you. That was it! I think I had stumbled on that previously but I couldn't remember it. Anyway thankyou. I'll be able to pass that on to all of the Digital Storytelling project participants.

  • Trouble with short still image durations

I know this is probably stupid and something simple I'm missing ...
I have a series of digital stills that I can import to the timeline etc etc
    but
I cannot find anyway to make the duration of each less than one second. Even if I enter less, it defaults back to one second. I need these to fire one after another really quickly.
    TIA

The still image duration is set by whatever you entered in FCP's preferences. Change the preference setting to whatever duration you need, then import the images into your project and drop them on the Timeline.

  • What size still images work best for iMovie to create a book trailer?

I'm trying to create a book trailer using still images and text in iMovie. I purchased some 280px images from gettyimage and find they are too small. When viewed on a full screen the images are degraded. What size still image works best to make a book trailer in iMovie that will be posted on You Tube. Thanks in advance. I am an iMovie newbie.

iM supports a max. export resolution of 1920x1080 pixel ..
if you need to add Ken Burns effects, res should be, of course, higher..
no such thing as 'dpi' with video, only absolute pixels count ..
due to the many conversion processes happening on import, processing and export, care for as less compression as possible for the imported files ..
this YT-demo is done in iM09 with some pics from my Lib, native res of originals is ~6Mpix/~3MB size/jpegs ..
ahh, and Welcome betinski61 to the  iM boards ...

  • Only One Still Image Duration

    Hello Folks,
I have shortened the clip before a still image and need the image to fill the gap. Right click and change duration is not working. If I change it on the clips motion tab, that changes the speed but does not give me a handle. Other posts have given methods that change all stills on the timeline which is not what I want. I want to change ONE only.
    What am I forgetting?
    Thanks,
    Robert A. Ober

Yes, In the motion tab but as I said that changes the speed and does not give me handles. Ist there another place when it is in the viewer?
Yes. In the Duration field of the Viewer window (Video tab, upper left-hand corner). David S. didn't suggest changing the speed of the image ... he DID suggest changing it's duration.
Or right-click on the image in the Timeline and select DURATION from the contextual menu and make the change there.

  • Quick Time Pro Still images duration

I am using Quick Time Pro version 7.7.5 to edit video clips.  I am adding a still image to the beginning of each clip for illustrative purposes but need to lengthen the amound of time the still image is displayed after it is attached to the video, preferably for about 5 seconds.  How would I go about doing that?

This is where "add scaled" comes into play. A still image doesn't have any "time" but if you add it scaled to an audio track you can give it a duration.
Open any audio track in QuickTime Player Pro and make a five second selection. Paste that selection in a new player window and close the source file.
Make sure all of your image files match the dimensions used in your video before starting.
Open the first of your image files, select all (control-a) and copy (control-c).
Switch to the 5 second audio track, select all and "Add to Selection & Scale" from the Edit menu.
Open the Movie Properties window (Window menu) and "Extract" the video track. This is now your 5 second image file. Name and save the file and close the image audio mix file without saving.
    Repeat for your other images.

  • I set the duration of a clip and iMovie sets it to something else. So I try to set all stills to same length and iMovie sets them all to a different interval. Now I have a movie much longer than intended. ?!?!

Well, the title of the question pretty much says it all.

If you go to Edit/Preferences, you can set the default duration for each slide. This will affect only those photos you've imported into your project AFTER changing this preference.
You should also turn off the preference for Scale to Frame Size, so your photos do not fill the screen. (And, for efficiency's sake, make sure your source photos are no larger than 1000x750 pixels, per the FAQs at the top of this forum.)
You can also set the duration of each slide by selecting all of the stills you want to include on in your slideshow, right-clicking and selecting the Create Slideshow option.

  • Setting Still Image Durations in Premiere Elements 8

I've been using Premiere Elements 4 for awhile and never did find a solution to a simple problem.   Now I can't see any improvements worth anything in version 8 either.
I have, say, 100 jpgs.  I want to create a slide show with, to start with, a constant duration of 10 seconds each.
If I just add them all I get a duration of 5 seconds each.  There then seems to be no way to pick them in groups and change them to any other duration (a feature of a number of other DVD making programs).
I deleted all the jpgs from the sceneline.  In preferences I set the duration to 350 frames (should be just over 11 seconds  -- but way not allow me to pick seconds - which is after all the result I want).  I readded all the jpgs from the project list and they didn't have 11 seconds duration (still 5).  Do I have to wipe the whole project.   Set the duration and reget all the media?
I've googled away for awhile but am too dumb to find an answer to what should be a very simple question.
I'm not clear I'm asking in the right place but I'm trying anyway.
Thanks for any help that anyone can be.
    Paul

    Paul,
The stills Duration setting has been Feature Request for some many versions now, and, as mentioned, just made it into PrPro with CS5. I would suggest filing that Feature Request for PrE, so that maybe it will be incorporated into PrE 9, due out in several months, if the normal life-cycle holds true.
I am with you on seeing little, to no need to upgrade from PrE 4 to PrE 8, but have to admit that I felt the same way about PrPro, which I use much more often. However, the changes in the CS5 suite (especially PrPro and AE), has me working to get a new workstation and then the full upgrade. There are enough enhancements to sway me completely, even at the expense of new hardware.
I do recommend Steve's articles on authoring in PrE, especially regarding the Menus. I've done a couple of articles in Tips & Tricks on modifying the Menu Sets, but Steve covers ALL topics, related to authoring. As I seldom do authoring in PrE, I have to go to his articles to "brush up," so I appreciate them greatly.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Export length of still image not adjustable?

I'm trying to export a bunch of still images as .psd files that I will archive and use repeaedly in future projects. The files will always be 2.5 seconds when used in the future.
The problem is that the images don't want to export as 2.5 seconds.
I adjust the length to 2.5 seconds and Export As QT Conversion > Still Image > PSD. However, when I import the file is always 10 seconds.
Alternatively, I load the clip into the viewer. Adjust the time to 2.5 seconds and Export As QT Conversion > Still Image > PSD. But still the file is 10 seconds upon import.
    Any ideas?
Is there a default setting somewhere I'm not seeing?
    Cheers,
    Curtis

  • Sharpness of still images into iMovie

    Hi,
I have used iMovie for two years, thought I had encountered all the bugs. However, I am now having an issue with the sharpness of still images from iphoto to iMovie. I use a lot of still images in presentations and for some reason any current photos which are loaded into iMovie are blurry and not near the same clarity as viewed in iphoto. This has never happened before! Any assistance would be appreciated.. thank you

    thank you for the reply
However, I have uploaded thousands of photos from iphoto to imovie in the last two years, all various megapixels. This is a new occurrence, clarity is blurred or not sharp when uploaded photos are viewed in the Photos screen in iMovie and then applied to the timeline. Once in the timeline, the resolution of the photo is not nearly as sharp. Hope this makes sense.....

  • CS4 doesn't allow Export Frame as a Still Image??

In CS3, I could create a still image of a frame (tiff file) by placing the CTI on the frame in the Source Monitor and then choose File>Export>Frame. This would create the file and place it in the Project I could adjust the default of the length of the still image through Preferences>General>Still Image Duration.
The File>Export>Frame option is no longer in CS4.......???
Can anyone tell me the quickest way to create or export a still image from the Source Monitor in CS4??

  • Transition and image duration times issue

I'm trying to put together an image slide show w/music, etc. I have iM08 and can't set my transition time to 2 seconds and the image time to 4 seconds to save my life. The adjustments seem to have a mind of their own. Is this a solvable problem in '09? My preference would be to have a 4 second transition and a 5 second image duration.
In iMovie preferences I have checked the box regarding time codes.
If this can't work for me, I will not buy the upgrade but rather find a 3rd party slide show program that will do what I want it to do.
    Frustrating!
    Thanks for any help.

Can't get that to set in Project Properties - have tried to set 4 seconds and 9 seconds repeatedly. I still have varying lengths of transitions and photo durations showing up. Any clues how to get this to behave?
I set the photo duration at 10 seconds, the transition duration at 3.15, and what I end up with is this:
Transition durations of 3:09 - 3:12 and photo durations at 3:11, give or take. That's the best I'm able to do from my limited perspective.
Can I get the audio to loop or do I just drop it into the slideshow again?
    Any further thought?
    Thanks!

  • Image duration problem

Hi, I have a problem with image duration in Motion 5. I want change duration to 0.50, but it doesn't works! Knows anyone someway how can I edit? I need it for my stop-motion animation. I've about 400 photos...

You import them as an image sequence - name them sequentially, e.g. picture001, picture002, etc. and they will show up in the File Browser as a single file, and they will come in as a movie with one image per frame. This is completely separate from setting a still image duration.

  • Still images on Pr CC 2014 are 12 minutes.

I'm importing still images on Pr CC 2014 and my still image duration is 12 minutes.  Yes, TWELVE minutes... craziness.  Please note that I'm in 30 fps and my default still image is 150 frames, so 5 seconds.  So general settings seem to be set up properly. But still, pardon the pun, the duration is 12 minutes.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Trash the Preferences file and try again, or failing that...
Right click on the images in the project folder and change their duration.
