Adjusting the date of events in iMovie '09

Hi,
Before I state the problem I want to make it clear that the two video events in question are of personal family events and NOT anything else (why else would I be raising the issue of adjusting event dates) - so please no post that relate to any copyright issues because there are none!!!
I recorded two family events on a hard drive camcorder that had a USB only connection.
At the time I was using iMovie 6 HD with Tiger which was firewire only, so I transfered the video to the hard drive of my DVD recorder because the camcorder was needed for other things. A few weeks ago I discovered that the recorder was having problems so I recorded the two events to DVDs.
Last week I upgraded to Leopard and iLife '09.
I downloaded a program from Apple.com's download section to import the events into DV format and then I imported them to iMovie '09 yesterday.
Of course, now the events are showing in iMovie '09 with yesterday's date.
Is there any way to change the dates of the events in iMovie?
Or at the very least adjust the dates of the DV clips and then re-import them?
Cheers
PS I assume when importing from a hard drive camera or a DV tape that iMovie '09 can detect the correct date on the recordings (I don't have a firewire cable or the hd camcorder at the moment to check myself)

Hi,
Just to update this - adding the correct date to the name of the event when importing the movie does make a difference.
cheers.

  • When I try to adjust the date and time of an event by selecting Photos from iPhoto, the year I enter is altered.

I have images in iPhoto from an older digital camera which did not record the date and time.  In iPhoto, with an event selected, I have tried to adjust the date and time by choosing Photo.  When I adjust the date and check Modify original files, it makes the date much earlier--in centuries.  I now have an event from August 2003 (the date I entered) which reads June 2, 1251 under the event!  When I attempt to correct it, it goes back further in time.  What am I doing wrong?

(I use iPhoto only to import from my iPhone; I organize all my images, including thousands of RAW files, in folders on a big external drive.)
Why are you using iPhoto at all? use image capture or drag and drop the photos
The problem is that the files I am copying are getting stripped of the EXIF metadata
eliminating iPhoto from your work flow will eliminate one oppertunity to have this happen  For photos in iPhoto it is best to export them rather than drag an drop them - this assures your EXIF and IPTC data is correct and uptodate
Why would I be able, over many years, to retain EXIF metadata in photos imported from an iPhone--then one day find that the same workflow strips such photos of EXIF data?
Because exporting is the supported way to "export" photos - I never drag and drop photos out of iPhoto and I never use thrid party programs on the photos in the iPhoto library - try exporting as suggested above and see if that is the solution

  • HT5252 I tried to change my metadata date and got this   Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file "01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg" because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.

I tried to change the metadata date.  It changed the date on my photo, but when I checked the box that said "also change my original file", it gave me this error message.
Unable to change original file.  Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file “01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg” because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.
    Wassup?

What is your Aperture version? The older versions of Aperture 3 had a problem to apply Metadata changes to the original file.
If you are using the current version Aperture 3.4.5, try to repair the permissions on your Aperture library, if you have not already done so:
Launch Aperture with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down and select "Repair Permissions" from the First Aid PAnel, that will appear.
If that does not help, post back with more information on your original files - are the referenced or managed? Where is your Aperture library located? Since when do you have this problem? And what did you do directly before noticed the problem for the first time?

  • Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the master file "2008-06-22 at 14-41-14.jpg" because it has a format that does not permit date modification.

I can't seem to find a way to update the date/time of a master file. There is a format issue but I can't seem to figure out how to correct it.

  • After adjusting  the date to 2011, the date changes to 1609!!  And goes back in time each time I try it.

After adjusting the date to 2011, iphoto changes it to 1780 and when I try again it goes back farther and farther..it is now 1609!

Try going forward in small increments - 30 years or so

  • When adjusting the date of a photo I can not enter the year

When in I photo , and I need to adjust the date of the photo that I have scanned in, I go to that drop down menu and try to enter the year but can not do so.

I go to that drop down menu
Which menu would that be?  Have you tried the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option?  That menu option should add the Image Capture date to the EXIF data for the photo.

  • How do I correct the "dates" for events

When I upgraded to iPhoto 8 some of my photos had incorrect dates on them [my camera was set incorrectly - operator error ]. I have corrected the dates using the iPhoto Photos ==> adjust time and date feature and all the photos are correct and wht event info window shows the correct date range.
BUT the date range under the event still shoes the old, uncorrected date range and the event sorts into the old incorrect position in the event window.
How do I get iPhoto to see that I have corrected my error and go along with the correct date range.
    Larry Nebel

I have the same problem -- over 70 events from 2003 to 2007 (though that's only a fraction of all the events from that time period) all with event dates in 2001 or 2002. Tried creating a new event with a 2006 picture in an event dated 2001, and it got the correct date, but then when I moved all the others from the old event into the new event, the start date on the new event reverted to 2001 again. I looked at every picture in the event and every one has a 2006 date -- no 2001 dates anywhere. Get Info on the events showed no original date, but even after a Batch change to give them 2006 dates, the event is still dated and sorted in 2001.
Then tried again creating a new event, this time moving the photos one by one into the new event. This time the event date did not revert to 2001 -- all stayed in 2006, and the event retained a 2006 date, and sorted out into the right place among all events. So, it's as if there's some hidden, incorrectly dated aspect of the event that's selected and moved when you do a Command+A to select all photos (though I have no hidden photos yet), but you can avoid it by moving them one by one. Not a great solution, but better than nothing!

  • I can't adjust the date in contacts for September 1978

Is there a way to "re-activate" the days for September 1978 in Contacts and calendar? On both my IPhone 4 and my iPod Touch 4G the only date available is September the first. Both have the latest updates. This is an ongoing issue

You do know that was thirty four years ago, before personal computers of any sort were available?

  • How do you change the date associated w an event in FCPX?

In iMovie there's a menu item to correct dates, and its very useful. Even though the dates are corrected in iMovie, when imported into FCPX the modified date is lost. I've got imported VHS with the date of conversion to digital, not the date of filming, and some digital video where the camera clock was set for2012.

I say ideally because I'm not sure if changing the file in any way will cause FCPX to consider the media as missing.
I successfully changed the creation date for files I imported, but they were not copied to the Event folder. What I did was switch to proxy media so I knew FCPX wasn't actually using the original files at that time. I then changed the creation date of my files using muCommander (sorry I am not familiar with how A Better Finder works). Then, when I opened FCPX and changed back to using the original media, the creation date was updated in FCPX and my media was still there.
Maybe try muCommander, it is free and I didn't find it too hard to figure out.
Also, I'd try this with just a single file at first, and of course make a copy of the file just in case.

  • How to edit the date in an event

Help please, I uploaded some pictures into iphoto (I'm new to it). However they were uploaded and dated in an event automatically as 2004 and they are supposed to be 2009. Does anyone know how to change the date for events manually? I cannot figure it out. Thanks!!!

Check your camera set up - the dates iPhoto use come from it
to correct dates select the photo(s) you want to correct and adjust the time and date - iphoto menu ==> adjust date and time
You may find the iPhoto tutorials worth watching - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/ - as simple and intuitive as iPhoto is there is a learning curve and there are lots of features to learn

  • I cant adjust the time and date

I cant adjust the date and time in my Apple TV

That means it is having trouble connecting to the network. Check that location is set correctly. Make sure DNS is set to ISPs (settings - general - network - configure DNS - automatic). Ensure router is up to date and that access is allowed over port 123. Reboot all devices. Try ethernet to rule out wifi issues.

  • How can I use "date modified" from metadata to date iphoto events?

I am very frustrated trying to move photos from windows to iMac.  I have a number of photos, all of them have some metadata with date created and date modified.  This worked well in Picasa in Windows and kept everything in order.  Now it seems iphoto will not read date modified or assigns date created (if there is no date in the metadata) as the date everything was switched over.  I looked over some of the wrongly organized photos (there are thousands) and realized that under the old sustem, Picasa in windows must have used either date created or date modified, which ever came earlier or perhaps whichever was available.  In iphoto, it doesn't read "date modified" or does this crazy thing where even if the modification date is before the creation date, puts all photos in the order or when they were brought over from windows.  I have a lot of photos dated September 18 -- thousands.
Is there any way to get either iphoto or some other program (I'm not terribly impressed by iphoto) that will properly organize the photos in an imac environment. In other words, I want a program to look at (1) creation date or (2) modification date (which-ever is earlier).
Even Picasa is now confused (in the mac envirnoment).
    Thanks,
    Mark

No, as this is file metadata not photo metadata.
You can adjust the date and time using the Photos -> Adjust Date and Time or even the Photos -> Batch Change command.

  • No Data Change event generated for a XControl in a Type Def.

    Hello,
Maybe I am missing something but the Data Change event of a XControl is not called when the XControl is used in a Type Def. or Strictly Type Def. (see the attached file).
There may be some logics behind it but it eludes me. Any idea of why or any idea of a workaround still keeping the Type Def. ?
    Best Regards.

    Hi TWGomez,
Thank you for addressing this issue. It must be a XControl because it carries many implemented functions/methods (though there is none in the provided example).
Also consider that the provided non-working example is in fact a reduction of my actual problem (in a 1000-VI large application) to the smallest relevant elements. In fact I use a  typedef of a mix of a lot of different XControls and normal controls, some of them being typedef, strictly typedef or normal controls and other XControls of XControls (of XControls...) in a object oriented like approach...
    Hi Prashant,
I use a typedef to propagate its modifications automatically everywhere it is used in the application (a lot of places). As you imply a XControl would do the same, though one would like to construct a simple typedef when no additional functionality is wanted.
The remark "XControl=typedef+block diagram" is actually very neat (never thought of it that way) because it provides a workaround by transforming every typedef into a XControl. Thanks very much, I will explore this solution.
One issue remains: All normal controls update their displayed value when inserted into a typedef but not XControls. Data change event is not triggered. I known that XControls have some limitations (no array of XControls) but I would say, like TWGomez, that this is a “bug” considering the expected functionality.
