Adjusting the duration of a photo(s) in iMovie

iMovie help says I can adjust the duration of a photo by double-clicking it and changing the number of seconds to display the photo. I do that, as well as click on "Applies to all stills." When I click <Done>, however, the duration doesn't change for any of my photos. If, however, I drag another photo in, ITS duration has the new setting.

The format for time is hh:mm:ss:tenths
Or you can go to iMovie/Preference and select "Display Time as hh:mm:ss:frames" to get more control. (There are 30 frames per second.)
When you type a 4, then depending on the setting above, it thinks you mean 4/10 of a second or 4 frames.
If you want 4 seconds, type 4:00.
For 4 minutes, type 4:00:00, etc.

  • When I adjust the duration of a clip or transaction, iMovie automatically adjusts the duration of another clip; how can I shut this feature off?

In iMovie when I adjust the duration of a photo clip or transaction, iMovie automatically changes the duration of another clip; how can I shut this feature off?

Ok, well you won't get a "speed scale" indicator when editing a title clip. You can only adjust duration. Now, is there music attached to the title clip? Are you adjusting the TITLE TEXT box ONLY? Try adjusting the clip BELOW Title Text box 1st, then Title Text clip.  Is the Title attached to your own video OR is it one of iMovie's default Titles??

  • Can't adjust clip duration of still photos in iMovie '11

Anyone having the same problem? I inserted a still photo in one of my projects in iMovie which has a a clip duration of 5s when added. I clicked the cogwheel icon then chose the inspector to adjust the duration. I've managed to changed it to 3s but after I clicked "Done", the clip duration is still under 5s.
I didn't encountered this problem before in iMovie '10 and I've searched over at Google and found out that many iMovie '11 users have the same dilemma.
Any workaround you can suggest? Thanks!

"problems setting duration for still photos and transitions in iMovie '11"
A number of people have experienced the same problem and written about it on discussions. Lots of difference solutions as well. If you search using the title quoted above, you can read the solution I found. It's more complicated than it should be. I've never had to fiddle as much with duration times for transitions and still photos. Nevertheless, the steps I have described work for me. You will also find the steps another reader offered that may work for you if all of your transitions are set for the same durations and all of the still photos are as well.

  • How do you adjust the duration of audio loop?

How do you adjust the duration of the audio loop that you can setup to play in the main menu?

Your best bet is to bring your audio into DVDSP at the length you need it. You can adjust the menu loop time in the inspector but this also adjusted your video as well. DVDSP is not an editor - only an authoring tool All adjustments need to be made outside the tool.

  • I keep on adjusting the duration of the IMOVIE clips , and after I have hit DONE and check the clip, it reverts to the original number and not the new duration requested. Any suggestions???

I keep on adjusting the duration of the IMOVIE clips, hit Done , and when I go check the clip, it reverts to the original duration. Any suggestions??

Error -69 suggests a possible problem with the source files on your computer. Check the source disk for errors and backup if you don't already do so. See HT1210: iTunes displays a -69 error when syncing iPod for more details.
The SyncToy backup program is also a good way to identify exactly which files cannot be read. Repeated runs may succed in copying files which won't copy over on the first attempt.
    See also Corrupt iPod classic.
It may also help to disable any AV software while syncing or set exclusions on the media folder and the iPod's drive.

  • I am having issues with adjusting the duration of time for each still frame and transition in imovie 11.  Each time that I adjust these times, the app does not accept the change, and automatically enters its own time. Am I doing something wrong?

I am having issues with adjusting the duration of time for each still frame and transition in imovie 11.  Each time that I adjust these times, the application does not accept the change, and instead automatically enters its own time. Is there a work around this? Or am I doing something wrong? Please Help!
    Thank you,
    lagrl

Have you tried turning off automatic transitions ? Choose file - project properties and follow the dialogue box to change duration with a slider.  iMovie also doesn't allow a transition to be more than 50% duration of the clip its attached to. In other words if the clip is 4 seconds the transition cannot be more than 2 seconds and remember that relates to the first clip as the following clip (right side) is pulled back to overlay it.
Does this help.  Perhaps you already know this ?

  • Changing duration of a photo clip in iMovie 5.0.2

I can't change the duration of my photo clips consistently. Sometimes when I highlight a clip it shows in the photo pane (top right) and I can then use the speed slider bar which in 5.0.2 is underneath the small photo.
However, often the clip I want does NOT show in the photo pane -- I see the very first clip I imported with its duration. So I have to delete the clip, and import it again, redo the effect and the transition -- isn't there an easier way?
(In 5.0.2 when one double clicks the clip, all you get is the information about the clip, with no means to change the duration.)
    Thank you!

Hi pdfac - you will find that the culprit is the effect that you have added. Photos without added effects will display in the Photos Pane, but those with an effect added will not. It will be necessary to remove the effect. Just select the pic in the Timeline or Clips View, and hit 'Delete. That removes the effect but not the pic. Now the duration can be adjusted. If you have added effects to quite a few that need duration adjustments, by selecting them all, you can do the operation all at one go.
Note - you do not have to trash the photos and start again!
You cannot change the duration by double-clicking, because the pics have become video clips, as a result of having the Ken Burns box ticked. The quality is best if the box IS ticked.

  • Is it possible to control the duration of a video clip in IMovie? Speed

Is it possible to control the duration of a video clip in IMovie? Speed
    it up/slow it down?

I actually think the content gets smoother in faster mode. But maybe that's just my opinion.
By the way, the fast/slow/reverse effect is pretty sensitive, i use it for my fight scenes in movies and I can only raise the bar one notch faster before it starts to look cheesy.

  • Is there a way to adjust the opacity of a photo in Aperture 3?

Hello.....I am a new user to aperture 3.   When creating a book I am looking for a way to adjust the OPACITY or TRANSPERANCY of a photo to use as a background behind other photos or text.   Also wondering if there is a way to adjust the OPACITY or TRANSPERANCY of a photo in general with aperture.   Thanks for any suggestions.

See if the Photos Filters in the Book Editor do what you want (that's what they are there for).
Full instructions on this page in the User Manual.  Scroll down to "Changing the Look of Images with Filters" (NB: a different kind of filter than using the Filter on the Images in a container).

  • When adjusting the date of a photo I can not enter the year

When in I photo , and I need to adjust the date of the photo that I have scanned in, I go to that drop down menu and try to enter the year but can not do so.

I go to that drop down menu
Which menu would that be?  Have you tried the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option?  That menu option should add the Image Capture date to the EXIF data for the photo.

  • Adjust The Duration Of A Clip

I've tried everything I know to try, and I've research all over the internet -- but I can't find anything that tells me how to adjust the length of a clip to match what I want it to be. Here's the deal:
    1. I have a 12 second clip that I want to "stretch" to match some music.
    2. I've set markers in my timeline at the points I want the video to span.
    3. I'm needing to span 15 seconds -- 3 more than the actual footage.
    4. The User Guide says to just grab the edge and drag the slip to the length I want, BUT IT WON'T WORK. I can make it less than the 12 seconds, but not more.
The only way I see to get the vid to be the length I want is to keep changing the speed by % increments until it lands as close to my marker as possible. This method totally ***** because it isn't as accurate.
So, how can I drop a clip between 2 markers and make the video span the length?

Tom is right, if you are referring to extending the clip to fit your requirements. If you want to actually have the clip start and end at the same time in your footage, but span a longer length, you MUST change the speed. No other way to do it.

  • I can't adjust the duration of iMovie videos and images with precision on iPhone. It gets back at 0,3 seconds.

During my iMovie project, after 2 minutes. I can't adjust the length of images or videos with precision as normal. If I sweep it a little bit, it gets to 20 or more minutes. Can you help me out?

  • Can't adjust the duration of two clips simultaneously.

When I select two clips, each in different tracks, and try to extend the duration of both by dragging, only one of them moves.
I have read the manual, and looked for an answer online for hours. I must have accidentally changed a setting, but can't find the problem.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

I guess I'm not 100% sure I could do this before. Here is what I'm trying to achieve: In track one I have video. In track two and three I have a lower 3rd and a title. I want the lower and third and title, (thus tracks 2 and 3) to stay up on screen a little longer.
I'd like to avoid having to grab one and drag it, then grab the other and extend it separately.
Thanks for taking the time to help me.

  • No longer able to adjust the length of a video clip in imovie 6 HD

Without warning (or reason) I can no longer adjust the length of a video clip (new or old) in imovie. I've tried the old way of highlighting the clip and putting the cursor at the start or end, but the cursor doesn't change. I've also tried double clicking on the clip but then the length is fixed.
This problems happens in new and old movies and remained after I deleted and reinstalled imovie.

I searched further using the correct word (trim) and found that I had to turn off the audio levels
