Adjusting the NAT settings on a snow airport base station

Hello,
Is it possible to adjust the NAT settings on the snow base station to lower them from strict? I'am trying to use xbox live and it wont allow online gaming or audio chatting because the NAT settings are set to strict. Thanks again for any help. It is much appreciated!!
Vinny

Adding to what Duane has already said...
It is extremely important that you manually assign your XBox a static IP address outside the range of IP addresses used by the Base Station's DHCP server. I suggest 10.0.1.201. The XBox will also need you to specify a subnet mask (255.255.255.0), router/gateway address (10.0.1.1), and probably the DNS server addresses of your ISP (get these from one of your Macs already connected to the internet). If you don't do this - and simply use the IP address your XBox has already been automatically assigned - port mapping may work unreliably if it works at all.

  • Administer old Snow Airport Base Station

I have an old "Snow" airport base station. I use it to connect to DSL (the DSL modem is in bridge mode) and to provide WiFi access for my laptop. It always just works. I have a dim recollection of configuring it with a utility. Haven't done it for a long time. I still have the passwords.
As I recall, the administration utility is called "AirPort Setup Assistant for Graphite or Snow." The version number is 3.4.3. It won't launch. I get a dialog box that says it won't work this version of my OS (10.6.6)
I looked around, thought I found the current version of this utility, downloaded it. It's called "AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow". Version is 4.2.5. This won't launch either. Similar error message.
Do I have the right utility? Do I need to download a different version?
Is my Airport Base Station hopelessly obsolete? (It still works, but I can't change the configuration.)
    Thanks in advance
    Tim

    Thanks for your reply, Barney.
I get a bit confused, because one utility administers the base station, and another one administers the WiFi. I forget which is which.
My MacMini has built in WiFi, I think, but it's turned off and I don't need it. I'm connected to the internet by the Ethernet cable that comes from the Airport base station. I just want to configure the Airport base station (Snow).
I have "AirPort Utility" version 5.5.2. It will launch. I get a notification: "Airport Utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices. Make sure the AirPort wireless devices you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, then click rescan to try again."
    Hope that's clear.
I'm stumped. Not sure where to go from here.
    Best regards,
    Tim

  • Snow Airport Base Station

    I have a Snow Airport Base Station model M8440, Part # M8209LL/A serial # UV145392M2C
I have repeatedly attempted a factory default reset on it with a MacBook Pro 15" running 10.5.8 without success following the directions at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728?viewlocale=en_US
During a soft reset, when attempting to connect to the base station with the *AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow* Version 4.2.5 (425.1) I get the following error message:
    --- Begin Error Sheet ---
AirPort Admin Utility does not support this base station.
Use AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder, or install it from the CD that came with your base station.
Check www.apple.com/airport for the latest version of AirPort Utility.
    --- End Error Sheet ---
It seems to be reading the base station data, as the title bar of the window has the base stations name in it.
When attempting to connect to the base station using the *AirPort Utility* Version 5.4.2 (542.22) I get an error -6753.
I do not know what version of the base station software the base station is running. It has not been used in at least 4 years. As far as I can tell it seems to be operating correctly by attempting to dial out to connect to the internet when it is in soft-reset mode.
I do not remember the WEP password for the base station which is the reason I want to reset it.

But isn't the wired ip address different from the wireless ip addresses?
They are on the same subnet (for example all will start with something like 192.168.1).
It also asks for a Gateway address (DEF. Gateway: 0.0.0.0 - is that the airport ip address?) and the BOOTP/DHCP Server: 0.0.0.0. (is that the dsl service provider address?)
Those both should be set to the LAN side IP address of the ABS (for example 192.168.1.1 if your ABS is providing 192.168.1.x addresses).

  • This AirPort base station was unable to extend the wireless network.

I have an AirPort Extreme in the lounge connected to BT infinity.
I also have an airport express in the kitchen connected to a stereo system.
I have had this set up for around 12 months.
The airport express will not extend the wireless network.
I reset it, restart, factory reset etc and it will work fine for around 3 days, then I get the same error message saying
This AirPort base station was unable to extend the wireless network. Make sure the wireless network you’re trying to extend was set up and is working correctly, that you entered a matching wireless network password into this device, and that this device is in range of the wireless network.
The express is situated easily within range of the extreme. And the airplay between those two, my iMac and two apple tv's works pretty much as it should.
Can someone please shed some light on this?
Maybe I have it in a wrong setting or summut....

I am also experiencing a recent failure in my Airport devices no longer extending my wireless network.
My Aiport Express and second Airport Extreme were extending my wireless network for more than a year
The only change that has taken place lately is that the firmware for both devices was upgraded to 7.6.4, however the upgrade was only in response to trying to resolve this problem.  Needless to say, the firmware upgrade did not resolve anything.
If I didn't know better, I'd have thought I wrote the above.
I have a TC from a few years ago (last one before the tower, I think), plus the older AEBS that it replaced extending the network, plus a 1-year-old Express also extending. I had upgraded them all to 7.6.3/4 when it came out, but reverted them all to 7.6.1 when everything went crapways (others having the same issues of the LAN regularly croaking), and didn't bother upgrading again since.
Today I just tried 7.6.4 on all of them, and it seemed OK at first with green lights all around in Airport Utility.  Then I made one change, which was to enable 5Ghz on the main AEBS/TC only (the express doesn't need it, and the older AEBS can't do it).
The latter two started flasing amber and giving the "unable to extend wireless network" error message.
So I'm wondering if you are similarly using 5Ghz?

  • LaCie external drive plugged to airport base station?

    Hi everyone!
Is it possible to do that? I have an LaCie external hard drive and I'm thinking that it would be very use full if i could plug it strait to the base station. So that way i could be anywhere in my house an would be able to access my storage all the time. Anyone as got an idea on that matter? I would use a USB connection for that because there is no FW port on the base station.
    Is it possible?
    thank you
    Alx

No you can't do that. The graphite and snow AirPort base station (ABS) only have Ethernet ports.
The AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and AirPort Express do have USB ports but that is only for a single compatible printer. (There are a few exceptions, see What kind of USB devices...?.)
The only way to connect a drive to a base station is if that drive is a network drive that is designed to connect to an Ethernet network.

  • Airport base station m8440?

i recently bought a second hand airport base station and would like to use it to extend the range of my current wireless internet. I dont seem to see any options for relaying or wds in my configuration options. Is this base station to old?

damonhyland, Welcome to the discussion area!
That is an older 802.11b Dual Ethernet [aka "Snow"] AirPort base station (ABS). KB 107908, Identifying AirPort hardware
It does not support WDS. You can see the features of that ABS in iFelix's table.

  • Trying to connect an XBOX 360 to my airport base station via  ethernet cabl

    Hello,
I have the older snow airport base station and was trying to connect my xbox 360 to it via an ethernet port. There are only 2 ethernet ports on the snow base station. one is being used by the cable coming from my dsl modem. the other free port i tried plugging into my xbox 360 to no avail. the xbox cant get an ip address. the open ethernet port on the base station is labeled with the circle logo. the one being used by my dsl modem has the two outer pointing arrows. I turned off the airport to my macbook and tried to connect my macbook to that port my xbox was in and it would not connect to the net either. Is it possible, i have the ports backwards. my wireless internet for all 3 mac computers works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
    Thanks!!!
    Vinny

Yes, you have the ports connected backwards.
The WAN port is labelled with the "circle of dots" icon, and must be connected to your DSL modem.
The LAN port is labelled with the "double-headed arrow" icon, and that is where you connect ethernet cabled devices on your LAN.
See Apple's article AirPort Base Station: About the WAN and LAN Ports
What is surprising is that you haven't previously run into all sorts of problems with your existing setup. Once you cable things properly, you will likely have to power down your DSL modem and Base Station for a while (sometimes just an instant, sometimes overnight). After waiting, plug the modem into power and wait a minute. Then plug the base station into power and wait for it to restart.

  • Will Airport Base Station (white) work with MacBook Pro?

I have an older Airport Base Station (white) which I'd like to use with a new MacBook Pro laptop. However when I try to set it up I get a message that the base station doesn't see my wireless card. The card is listed in system profiler but the base station doesn't recognize it. Is the Airport base station compatible with the newer airport extreme card in the Macbook Pro?

    Bill,
Yes, the newer Airport Cards are backward compatible with the older 802.11b technology.
How are you trying to set this up?
Are you using Airport Setup Assistant?
Try using the Assistant to "Change settings on an existing Airport Base Station".
See if your computer will find the base station this way.
Make sure you allow the Assistant to set up your computer using DHCP and IPv6. You can always change them back manually when you are finished.
    Let us know what happens.

  • Set up an airport base station

I am trying to use a family members Internet thru wifi and the network shows up as a airport base station. It says that it cannot be set up by this software.
So how can I connect to wifi on my iPad 4? My iPhone 5 had no problem identifying the network like usual set up of wifi?

Since you have an iPad question here....you really should post in the iPad support forum. The experts over there may have some additional ideas for you.

  • Using AppleTV as an Airport Base Station?

Can I connect the ATV using ethernet and then use the AirPort part to extend the range of my WiFi network?
I'd like that, because my house is made from thick reinforced concrete and WiFi signals have a hard time getting through. Connected like this, the ATV would much improve the WiFi reception in the living room so I can have a better connection with my MBA on the couch (close to the TV is probably an ideal airport base station location for iPod/iPad/MBA).

    No

  • No configured airport base stations have been found

I just purchased a new Time Capsule and tried to set it up according to the included instructions. After the initial set up Airport Utility give the following error message: "No configured AirPort base stations have been found. The only way I can connect to the Internet is wirelessly with a Verizon MiFi wireless modem. Could this be the problem? If so, is there a way to configure the TimeCapsule as a backup only drive?

I think.. you will get nowhere fast using v6 utility.. you must use the older utility.. 5.6.
Apple have so dumbed down v6 as to make it useless.
There are plenty of posts about how to install 5.6 under ML. I don't think it is that hard.
Download the 5.6 dmg.. open the pkg.. then extract the files from the pkg.
There is a free utility to do this.. as well as shareware Pacifist.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Simply load the files manually and then run it..
I am about to try it myself but confess it has not yet happened.
Make sure the TC is different IP range to the main router..
Set static IP in the computer and it must work. By all the TCP/IP I have ever learned it has to be available to the computer.. but I will test myself.

  • IPhone as internet port for an Airport Base station

I wondered if it was possible to use the iPhone tethering feature to provide an internet connection to my Airport Base station? Is there some way of connecting the USB from an IPhone an Airport Base station to replace my existing broadband?

  • How do I adjust the PDF settings on my mac?

I am having major problems learning to use my mac.
I have docs that I have edited in Word for Mac.
In windows, I used to be able to easily press Print, PDF, then choose the level of PDF I wanted.
Now. I hit print, PDF, then Save PDF As, etc.
    Result:
    1. Tells me "The borders of Section 1 are outside the printable boundaries. Do you want to continue"
I have gone back and done everything I can think of, but it still will not include a slither of the bottom portion of each page of the completed PDF. Seriously ***? Why not at least prompt me on how to fix this.
    2. The resulting PDF is 14.5 MG.  The original Word doc was weighing in at 2.5. Why is it making my doc bigger?? Despite continual searching, I can not find how I adjust the PDF settings to make it a light, emailable PDF.  If I choose Send PDF as email, the result is the same.  A big 14 MG file. This is driving me insane.
I can not now use my mac to do the most simple, yet urgently necessary task I must often do, which is create a doc, pdf it and email it.

Can you upgrade from 1.3.0.20 small ovf to 2.1 without migrating to a new server? It sounds like you can just adjust the server settings now. I am currently running 1.3.0.20 and I have enough to do with also needing to upgrade my wlc to 7.4.121.0 and getting the MSE up to 7.4.121.0 without having to stand up a new server if I don't have to. Please share any information you have in regards to your experience with coming from a version 1.2-1.3 small ovf and going to 2.1.
    Thanks,

You are better off standing up a new server.  It's cleaner and safer..... you can always try to upgrade if you wish, but if things don't work out well, then you just wasted a lot of time.  Snapshot the VM and export the floor plans, just in case.  The ova is built around the DB size, so I don't know how well the DB will perform if you try to expand memory or drive space after an upgrade.
