Adjusting the volume brings screen light on.

I recently got a new iPhone 4s from Apple due to a technical fault with my old one, once I restored it from my back up and added songs to the phone, I noticed that whenever I have headphones in and playing music, when I adjust the volume either by the buttons on the side of the phone, or on the headphones control the screen on the phone lights up. I never had this with my previous phone, I cant seem to find any setting which will turn it off. It's annoying as it doesn't help the battery life.
Has anyone experienced this or knows how to prevent this from happening?
(the iPhone software is up to date & not jailbroken)

i dont understand why there are so many issues  with peoples 5800
i have none....ABSOLUTELY NONE!!!!
i know youve said youve done nothing with the settings but can you try
settings.....phone.....phone management....auto keyguard....change that to 1 min
(01:00) or just make sure it isnt some bizarre number......
also try to see if you have a correct setting in "light time-out"
settings.......phone....display........light time-out
make sure no bizzare number is there either.......
hope this helps

Go to your home screen, and then press the volume down or up button. It should say Ringer instead of volume. If it doesn't do that, try going into the clock app and try it there.

  • I have an iMac running snow leopard. I have trouble with my internal speakers, I cannot adjust the volume without having an earphone plugged into the jack.

The volume only works when I have earphones plugged into the jack, otherwise when I try to adjust the volume it has a circle with a cross. Ive tried restarting it with and without the headphones plugged in. However it does make that mac sound when turning on the machine before the apple logo comes on and takes me to the desktop screen. Is there anything I can do to fix this??

I'm having a very similar problem.
I've got a 2010 iMac that I've got hooked up to my Pioneer Elite via HDMI cable using the Moshi adapter.
It's been working great for months, but today the audio began dropping out -- a fraction of a second, every six seconds or so.
I installed the latest Snow Leopard update today. Does anyone think there might be a connection?
    thx!

    1. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

  • Weird ticking sound when adjusting the volume...

    Hi all
When adjusting the volume using the F3 F4, my new ibook 12" g4 makes a weird ticking sound before it catches up an adjusts the volume with the normal "blop" sound. Is this normal? Batteri is on "normal."
    Thanks
    Erlend

I have this same problem with my new 1.33Ghz iBook G4. I've had the logic board replaced twice and the top assembly with the speakers replaced twice also. It still makes the ticking noise and it's quite specific to reproduce so none of the Apple tech have spent the time to reproduce it. I think this problem is more wide spread than Apple realizes.
Here are the factors that HAVE to exist for this problem to be reproduced:
    1. The computer must be have the AC adapter unplugged and running off of the battery.
    2. Un-click "Play feedback when volume is changed" in System Preferences under "Sound" (While this is not exclusive to having the "ticking audio" problem occur, it is easier to notice with this box unchecked)
    3. 10.4.2 or 10.4.3 (even happens on a fresh install)
    4. Push the F4 and F5 keys to change the volume for at least 10-20 seconds and the "ticking sound" will occur. (the lagging after the tick is most annoying.)
Launching iTunes and playing audio will temporarily make this problem subside. Once this problem occurs with "Play feedback when volume is changed" unchecked, it will continue until audio is played or the sound preference panel is accessed. Often the sound balance will be 100% to the left after this problem has started occuring. (Checking the Sound preference panel shows this)
Has anyone had this problem fixed permanently? Apple seems to be unaware of this problem. 10.4.4 could fix it. Unfortunately we are not even sure if this is a hardware problem or a software issue. I will post with details of what happens when I bring my machine in to the Apple store for the 4th or 5th time.

  • Nomad Jukebox scroll buttons adjust the volume - I can't scroll up or d

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my Nomad? I can't make any selections because every time I press the scroll down/up buttons I adjust the volume (that's what the screen indicates). How do I fix this? I loaded the latest firmware from the Creative web site.

Which Jukebox do you have? If it's the original Jukebox, it's probably because you got the beta firmware (JBFW40J_298J_Dual_BETA.exe), it changes the navigation of the player. There are two firmwares included in the file, if you don't like the navigation one uses, you can try the other firmware.

Have you guys been able to activate your iphone yet? I bought an iphone 4s from eBay and it worked fine, but the previous user had left some data on it, so last night I used the "erased all content and settings" to restore it to factory setting so I can start fresh and restore my backup. But now I'm stuck at the activation screen (I get the same "the activation server is temporarily unavailable")  and can't get it to activate, even if I use my old deactivated AT&T sim card (I'm on straighttalk now).
I might try activating it with an active AT&T sim card from my fiancee's phone when she gets home, so I'll let you know how that works outs.
If it's true that the server is down; anyone know when it will be back up again? Thanks in advance.

  • I have a ringtone that works great on my computer but the volume is very soft on the phone.  I have adjusted the volume on the phone but the ringtone volume is still too low.  Is there any way to adjust the volume of a ringtone?

I have managed to sync a ringtone to my ne i phone 5C but the volume is way too soft.
The sound is great on my computer but hard to hear at all on the phone.  I have tried turning up the volume button on the phone but it doesn' do anything for the ringtone.  Any ideas on how to solve this problem.  The ringtone is "calypso blackberry" and I am not able to locate it in the Apple store ringtones.  This should be so simple and it is making me nuts.
    Help anyone please.

So you use an RCA cable going into what before it hits the MBP?
EDIT: Also in System Preferences > Sound > Input > you can select the input & adjust the volume accordingly as long as it's plugged in.

It was fine until recently, when i want to adjust the volume using the pod on the BOSE Companion 20, it will cause like a surge in volume, spiking it up and down. It will not stablise itself! It's very fustrating. Anybody with the same issue?

I have the BOSE Companion 5 speakers and have had the same problem. I've searched everywhere and gotten nowhere. My speakers are way past their warranty, so calling Bose would probably get me no where either. Only thing I can think of is that the speakers overheat which causes the spikes in the volume. I've tried unplugging them for a few minutes and then plug them back on. The problem does go away, but after about 5 minutes, same problem.

  • How do I get itunes to stop adjusting the volume

    Hi
I am running iTunes 11.0.2.25 and am really annoyed at how iTunes keeps adjusting the volume on me during playback. I am not talking about the 'sound check' or 'sound enhancer' or any other option that I can see in iTunes. They are all set to 'off'. What I am talking about is while I play a song and turn up the volume, iTunes adjusts it down automatically. I can keep doing this until the volume level is at 100% and the volume barely increases - or increases or a moment and then quietens down again. If I move the volume control to say 25%, the volume becomes almost inaudible, but then iTunes gradually increases the volume automatically to a seemingly random level.
How do I get iTunes to leave the friggin volume alone? Or is this something that can't be controlled?
I have looked at adjusting the 'Volume Adjustment' in the 'Get Info' area of individual songs and the setting there makes no difference whatsoever. I am ready to give up entirely on this piece of flawed software if there is no answer to this problem.
Again, I have diabled the 'sound check' option in 'Preferences', so it is not that.
Does anyone know how to get iTunes to play the song as it was recorded digitally without changing it?
My gratitude in advance for a resolution.

Yes, you'll have to individually add each new song that you've downloaded.
When you add them to iTunes--you're just adding the file path to the location on your computer. When you move the file location, iTunes won't know where to look for it and will give you the infamous "!" symbol. Then you'll have to browse to the new location and tell iTunes where to find it.
How many new songs do you add at a time? If it's not many, it's probably easiest to just add them one file at a time.
To find the new songs, the file names should be good clues--they are fairly complete song titles on my computer.
And, you might want to do this each time you download a new song so you don't forget to add them!

  • HT5882 Can't adjust the volume on my iPhone 5s when in doc

I have my iPhone 5s in the doc and my headphones plugged into the back.  I can't seem to adjust the volume.  It is wayyyyyy too loud.  Can you help me?

I had the same issue. I also couldn't hear any music or sound from apps and no sound when I typed a text message. But ringer worked which was odd. I sent in for repair and Apple sent me a replacement device.

  • Can't adjust the volume while using DJ controller

I've got a DJ controller. I just hopped from Windows to MAC (Pro Retina 13). I basically use Traktor DJ whenever I mix. Normally when I'd quit the program for DJing, the controller kept working - so I could play music via youtube through my speakers.
And just control the volume overall with the volume keys. Now that I'm on MAC, the DJ program works fine and I can control the master with a knob, but as soon as I quit the DJ program - It plays music through youtube and iTunes just fine, the only thing is it won't allow me to adjust the volume in any way.
The controller is mapped to a program, I can't use a master knob to adjust the volume out of the program...
Whenever I try to adjust the volume with the F11 and F12 keys it just shows an O with a slash through it.
I really want to control my volume through my mixer, please help!!!

    Hello, Miryam Maria.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you are experiencing issues with sound on applications when playing video/audio content.  If this is the case, the first thing I would check is if the side switch is set to silent as this can cause applications to be mute.  Below I have included an article that covers adjusting the  settings for the side switch.  Also, make sure to close all applications in Multitasking and power cycle the device.  Test the sound issue after processing these steps.
