Adjusting Volume For Remote Speakers

Is there any other way to adjust the volume of my airtunes remote speakers other than dragging the mouse and sliding the volume knob on the upper left hand corner? My F3, F4, and F5 keys along with the volume control key by the time doesn't adjust the music from my airtunes, only for my powerbooks built in speakers, which aren't playing the music (as they shouldn't be).
Also, just a side note that Apple should add a sleep timer into iTunes since lots of people enjoy falling asleep to music.

Using the Command (Apple) key and up or down arrow should adjust the volume in iTunes when it is the active application. However, I use a Keyspan Remote (http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/urm17a/) to adjust my volume since my computer is in a different room when I'm in bed.
As to falling asleep to music I create a separate playlist that I drag about an hour of songs to and set to play when I go to bed.

  • Adjusting volume for rear speakers in a 5.1 surround sound system

    Hi,
I have a basic Logitech X-540 5.1 sound system spakers. I am trying to point the rear speakers to where I'm sitting, but I cannot hear much from them except in certain songs or videos. I was wondering if there's any way that I can adjust the volume on the rear speakers so that I can hear them more?
    Thanks in advance.

Songs are stereo, so use the best upmixing method.
Notice the "1" for rear left & right - change that to e.g. 1.5, to be louder.

  • Option to disable iTunes volume control for remote speakers?

I have noticed that with iTunes 10, the option to disable the volume control for remote speakers seems to have disappeared from Preferences>Devices. If you click the "?" button, the help window gives an explanation of what its for but the option to check/uncheck it clearly isn't there. Since iTunes 10, streaming my music from my iMac to my Denon receiver via Airtunes/Airplay with an Airport Express has been disappointing. The volume is far too low. With version 9 and every version prior, the volume control option was always there in preferences and I always had it disabled; music came through loud and clear but since this option appears to no longer exist, the volume through the Denon receiver fails to impress, even with the iTunes volume slider at max.
Anyone else noticed steaming volume too low? If so, agree that it's a bug?

I wholeheartedly agree with "I also used to disable the volume control to reduce the amount that my computer interferes with the sound before it gets to the external DAC." There is no reason why Apple shouldn't restore this important setting option as the volume control does negatively affect sound quality in a high-end set-up and we'd rather not just take their word for it that the volume control's maximum setting is the same as disabling it. Why does the volume slider change the output level even when using the Airport Express' digital output? It shouldn't, and it seems the sound is now being force sent through a stupid digital volume control for no good reason. If for no other reason the "disable" option should be restored to avoid inadvertent volume changes via the Remote app for iPod Touch and iPhone. Strangely as compared to several other posts here, my perceived volume level now seems louder than before, not softer as others are reporting. People that are serious about sound quality do not want iTunes or AirPlay (formerly AirTunes) to manipulate the volume level or any other aspect of the sound at all ever, as it can't help but only hurt. I also thought the "disable" setting was available in the Airport Utility previously, but it's vanished from there too.

  • Adjusting volume for multiple QT clips

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it! I have about 100 5 or so minute QT clips at various volumes. They are a series of mini-tutorials for language learning. Most are about the same volume, but when some were recorded, the volume was much too high. I'd like to standardize the volume for all of them. None need volume boosting. Can QT batch adjust volume for multiple clips? Or is there some standard process so that the viewer isn't constantly adjusting the volume (apart from re-recording!).
    Thanks,
    Tony

Highlight all the clips you want to adjust, then press Apple "+" or Apple "-" to raise and lower the levels in increments of 1, and Apple "[" and Apple "]" to raise and lower the levels in increments of 3.
One of my favorite keyboard commands.

  • AirPort recognized but no pop-up window for remote speakers in iTunes

I have connected an Airport Express to an existing wireless network of multiple windows (2000 and XP) computers via a Linksys router. The base station is properly recognized (solid green LED, unit correctly identified in admin utility, and I was able to update the firmware to v.6.3 wirelessly) and I have it configured as a wireless client. I want to use it solely to stream music from iTunes to a remote stereo. When I open iTunes, there is no pop-up window offering an option to enable remote speakers. When I installed the airport software, it tried to install iTunes, but the installation aborted because I have a more current version. Is there some software on the disk that needs to be added to iTunes? What is AirTunes? Is this actual software that needs to be installed to stream iTunes to a remote location? Does it refer to the airport firmware? Is it just a "cute" name for the airport hardware (Apple marketing hype)? Thanks for any help.

Rj in WI is correct. I just started using iTunes about a month ago after my wife got an IPod. It took me about an hour of frustration and reading the instruction before I saw in the bottom right of the window "my computer". You click on that and then you can change it to the Airport network. Unfortunately It appears you can only send to only one place. I have two Aiport Expresses and I can only send it to one of the Express devices, or the computer, but not to two or all three places at one time.

  • Can not get menu for remote speakers in itunes to come back.

I've been using airport express for many years.
A few months ago my modem went out.
While waiting for a new one to arrive, I still wanted to listen to my music. So I just selected computer speakers from the drop down in lower right corner of itunes.
The menu immediately disappeared when I selected computer speakers.
When I set up the new modem, the drop down did not reappear.
Tried a bunch of things. Read a bunch of older forums. Nothing.
It's been months. I need my music and I'm back at it again!
    Today (in this order) I:
Reset my macbookpro (option apple p r)
reset airport express (held in reset while plugged in, waited for flashes)
set up airport express from scratch. Named it. All seems well.
    light is green
Made sure find remote speakers from itunes pref was checked. (unchecked and checked it again)
Made sure itunes music sharing was checked from my firewall settings. (unchecked and checked it again)
    Restarted itunes (a few times)
    Nothing. Nothing . Nothing.
Airfoil says that if itunes can't find remote speakers, then neither will airfoil.
So I won't try downloading that as a fix...
    PLEASE!? ANYONE!?
    Yes my wires are checked.

I have pretty much the same problem.
I just set up a new Belkin Wireless N router, to replace my G and hopefully speed up my network, but now I've lost my Airport Express.  It's still hooked up to my stereo, but the light is amber now and won't turn green.
Also, my iTunes can't find my remote speakers, and I can't even get the menu which used to have Computer and Living Room on it.
How can I get my iTunes to find that little Airport Express dude?

  • Need to adjust volume for 20+ tracks at once

Is it possible to slide the volume down for 20+ tracks all at the same time? If so, how???

I don't believe there is. I certainly haven't heard of anything like that.
You can lower the Master Volume and then raise the volume of the other 10 Tracks.
Or, if everything except the volume level is set on the 20 Tracks, you can export them as one (mute the other 10), then drag the file back in and it'll be one Track. Of course that could take as much time as adjusting each Track individually.

  • Adjusting volume for incoming calls - not the ringer

Just got a new 4S and although the "sounds" ringer is turned all the way up, I cannot hear people when they speak.  Is there a separate setting for incoming sound?

    Hello,
I would love to help you with this issue.
To change the volume of your caller's voice all you need to do is, when in a call, press the volume buttons. The top one to make it louder the bottom one to make it softer.
    I hope this helps!

  • Where is my pop up menu for remote speakers?

Just upgraded to Lion and iTunes 10.6. Sometimes the pop up menu is there, sometimes it isn't. I've tried shutting the computer, the airport and the modem down and restarting it all. No change.

I just figured it out. I was logged into another network, so my itunes didn't recognize it and therefore wouldn't display the popup menu.

  • Adjust volume via iTunes for multiple speakers

I upgraded my iTunes to 6.02 and finally it is possible to select multiple AE and my PC at the same time to stream music to them.
It works almost perfect for me! Just one thing bugs me:
I can't adjust the volume on my AE via Airtunes if I selected my computer and my AE. When I try to adjust my volume in iTunes, the volume on my computer changes but the volume on my AE doesn't.
If I select just one of them, either works perfectly but not togeter.
My settings are right (preferences > advanced > disable iTunes volume control for remote speakers = OFF).
The funny thing is that on a Mac it works perfectly but on my Win XP Pro not!
Is this a common problem for Win XP and is there a solution for this?
    Windows XP Pro

I have the same issue, but don't blame Apple. Just getting multiple AE's to work is so cool I'm still in heaven.
I don't see how Apple could engineer the ability to stream different volume levels to different AE's.

  • ITunes 7 for Windows Vista: AirTunes won't connect to remote speakers

    HELP!!
Everything was working fine, until 2 weeks ago, when suddenly, my airtunes wouldn't connect to my remote speakers! The little button at the bottom of itunes, which gives you the option of listening to music through your computer or the base station no longer appears! My internet connection is fine however. Has anyone else encountered this problem with Vista and do have a solution??
    Chris

Make sure that your Airport Express is still working: should show a green light.
Even if it is green, do this:
Unplug (30 seconds) and plug your Airport Express. Wait until it flashes green. You might have to reboot your computer.
    Still not working?
In iTunes ->Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced->Look for Remote Speakers (this should be checked).
You should also check in the Airport Admin Utility, that you have "Enable Airtunes over this Base Station" checked in the "Music" tab. Update.
    Try after reboot.
You might also consider a repair of iTunes.
    In Vista ->Start ->Control Panel-> Programs ->Uninstall a Program ->iTunes ->(right click mouse) -> Choose "Repair" option.

  • Using apple remote with iTunes 9 and airport express/remote speakers

    Hi,
Does anyone know why the apple remote will control the hardware volume for the speakers on my mac, but when playing via the airport express connected to remote speakers why doesn't it control the volume slider in iTunes?
This would be really useful as at present I need the apple remote to control track selection and play/pause, but another remote to control volume.
If it isn't possible now, can Apple please add it to the pile of suggestions for the next version build of iTunes?
    Many thanks

  • ITunes not connecting to AirTunes remote speakers after upgrade to 7.6.1

    Hi
I've just noticed that iTunes is refusing to connect to my AirPort Express. Or rather, it's ignoring me when I ask it to connect; it's as if I didn't select the remote speakers at all. It is displaying them in the remote speakers menu, and allowing me even to bring up the "multiple speakers" option, but won't respond to me selecting them). It's only started doing this since the update to 7.6.1.
The problem is not with the AirPort unit; my partner's MacBook running 10.5.2 and iTunes 7.6 will connect to it happily (thankfully she hasn't updated to 7.6.1 yet).
Any suggestions? Has anyone else experienced this? Or is this simply a bug I need to report to the good people at Apple?
    Thanks in advance.

Not working here either on v7.6.1.
Doesn't always find Airtunes speakers, works for a bit, then playback hangs at 0:00.
Quitting and restarting iTunes seems to get it (temporarily) working again.
Also, the iTunes volume control is broken - it plays at 100% volume regardless of volume setting and regardless of whether the "Disable iTunes volume control for remote speakers" option is checked.
All in all, a very poor release.

  • Music pauses intermittently when remote speakers selected

When I stream iTunes via remote speakers, the music "auto-pauses" for approximately 2.5 seconds at about 6-9 second intervals. Continuously. Why? I've disabled IPv6 and made sure that "Disable iTunes volume control for remote speakers" is NOT selected in "Advanced" iTune preferences. It seems as though something is competing for the stream's attention. What is the solution?

    Sorted it.

  • Cannot get iTunes to recognize remote speakers via Airtunes

I have the option checked under iTunes preferences to look for remote speakers. The Airport Express device is "up and running" and glowing a continuous green which tells me it recognizes the wireless Belkin Pre-N router which is the central router for 2 windows laptops, a mac mini and this iBook. The mac mini is hard wired to the router; all others are wireless. A couple of items worth noting: Airport Express has worked previously on the iBook. Prior to running the Belkin Pre-N...I was running a Linksys 802.11b router. In addition, the motherboard on this iBook was replaced by Apple earlier in the summer. The iBook was returned with no problem and the hard drive remained intact. I tried to follow D.Lovell's link (hats off...by the way, nice job) but did not get very far.I hardwired the iBook to the Belkin Pre-N router and established an internet connection. I then tethered the Airport express to the router via ethernet cable and powered up Airport Express. Flashing yellow ensued....no green. Per Lovell's instructions, I opened Airport Admin Utility and nothing is recognized here. If I hit rescan or find other, another window pops up asking for IP address and password. Perhaps I am wrong here but I enter the IP address the router assigns to the IBook but I have no password to enter as Ive never associated a password with this router. This is as far as I can go in the process. Do I have an Apple issue? A Belkin issue? I feel as though I am close to solving this ....and its all the more frustrating that it worked previously...No firewall software runs in the background. Help????????

If when the Airport Express is cabled to one of the ethernet LAN ports on your Belkin wireless router, and the Airport Express doesn't within a short period of time show a solid green status light, then the next thing I would do is a factory default reset of the Airport Express per:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
If the problem persists then one of the following has happened:
    - you have a defective Airport Express
    - you have a defective ethernet cable connecting the Airport Express to the Belkin router
    - the LAN port the Airport Express is cabled to on the Belkin router is defective
